Gaming pc on tight budget?

Jayvan Lea

I only have around £200 to spend, however bad this may sound I do have some specs.

I have a jn120F 600AP 12v2 PSU - Is this good enough?
I have an AMD Athlon 64 x2 3800+ CPU - Is this good enough?
I have an XFX AMD 6770 Graphics card

The only things I don't have providing the above specs are ok are:
RAM
Motherboard
Case

Can it be done? If so, what specs do I need?

Answer
I am not the best informed about PCs and building, but I also am trying to build my first gaming PC for a budget.

Your budget is VERY tight though, and I am not sure what you will be able to get for that. The PC I am trying to build is $500 at the lowest I can get the parts. So good luck to you on that, hope you can do it.

Anyways, the PSU seems to be ok, at least with the amount it supplies. 510w sounds pretty good from what I know. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/stress-test,review-1362-20.html <- Link to in depth review of the PSU.

The CPU looks a little old. Most reviews I found are from 2005, and the AM2 socket is outdated I think. Again, take everything I say with a grain of salt, but thats what I gather.

The AMD 6770 looks pretty good, my concern with it would mainly be specifications and if it would fit the motherboard, how much power does it draw? Otherwise it is actually a decent card, benchmarking pretty high in playing games like Just Cause 2 or Mafia 2.
http://tech2.in.com/reviews/graphics-cards/xfx-radeon-hd-6770-review/241592 (Article I read)

I would do a lot of checking to make sure before purchasing anything. When you buy your motherboard, be sure to buy one that will fit the AMD 6770 in it.
Also, I think you would be better off buying a new CPU since you will probably get bottlenecked by it. The power supply, I am not too sure about, it might be good, it might be bad. Don't trust me on that.

I would go to http://www.build-gaming-computers.com/gaming-desktop-computer.html and read the guide to January 2013 budget build of the month. That helped me a lot.

RAM is pretty cheap nowadays, you will also need an optical drive, thats cheap too. Also, don't forget an OS and an HDD. The Operating system will pretty expensive, there is guides on how to get deals on operating system discs out there.

Thats the extent of my knowledge, if that haha. Good luck!

If any one has any builds like this please tell me

Answer
take a look at this?... also you cannot built a nice system with intel cpu & geforce gpu for 700$
also windows 7 64 bit original is 185-200$
intel i5 quad core are priced at 225-250$

Top Pc Games 2012?????

I think I might have all the good ones. These are the ones that I have currently: Civilization V, Batman Arkham City, CoD MW3, LA Noire, CoD BlackOps, Just Cause 2, Assasins Creed Rev, Need for Speed HP, Battle Field 3, The Sims 3, Siper Elite V2, Fifa 12, Saints Row 3, Skyrim, GTA IV, Assasin's Creed 2, Hitman Blood Money.

I mostly like free roaming games.

What am I missing? (My laptop can support the highest games and graphics possible, so a high def game would be good.)

Answer
Prototype 2 (kinda like just cause 2 except you're more powerful), and the Mass Effect trilogy (really fun, you get your own ship and can visit different planets)

How much will a gaming PC cost?

Timmy

Something that can play current games like BF3 at ultra high and even games of the future (2012-?)

The best everything in the PC, how much pounds will it cost? £

Please don't tell me to go buy a gaming laptop, laptops are shit in my view...

Answer
my gaming computer I built costed about $1300 AU dollars and it plays BF3 at 60 fps ultra, but if your looking for something pre built and just shipped to you ready to set up id say origin pc you can choose everything including a customised case that would probably set you back about $5000 with about 2 graphics cards and a nice CPU with water cooling and a good overclock

Want to build a gaming pc for 600-700 dollars?

Travis

Hey I'm planning on building a gaming pc for diablo 3 which should come out within the next couple months. I'm a college student and am low on funds so I'm looking to spend 600 but can manage 700. I want to be able to run games like d3 and other games like skyrim and bf3. Also I'm in debate as to go with Windows or Linux for my OS so any suggestions on that would be helpful (Don't include OS in building price, thanks)
This is my first time building a computer and am having trouble finding out if all parts are compatible with one another and don't want to spend a bunch of money on parts that aren't going to work together

Here is the best Budget decent gaming PC I can give you at that price range and I wouldn't recommend anything less bec for me "decent" means that you will be able to play ALL GAMES on high-max settings with the appropriate resolution.

What I have given you is the I3-2100(best budget gaming processor) and the HD 6850 (best budget GPU) that can let you play all games on high settings, some on max settings (depending on resolution and game requirements).

The HD 6850 is currently ranked #15 overall in benchmark, a step higher than the GTX 560 (ranked #16) yet significantly much cheaper =P

BTW, the monitor is 1080p

Glad to help =P

copy and paste this link in your browser.
also I took about 1 hour fitting every little bit into the build. With this you will be able to max out a lot of last gen present gen and go on about medium with next gen games.
P.S. sorry I didn't get the phenom black edition. it was to much money. but this will give you the same price/performance ratio

Answer
Yes, the 4770k is much better for video editing/ rendering over the 4670k. Also the Z87 motherboards comes with alot more bank for the buck compared to the Z77 motherboards, stuff like all the sata ports are 6GB per a second, more power phases and better stability for overclocking.

Speaking of overclocking, if you plan or intend to overclock, Intel offers a great Overclocking plan( http://click.intel.com/tuningplan/ ) that allows you to be able to overclock your K series CPU, with no worries about voiding your warranty. the warranty covers any damages to the CPU, the best part about it, is if you ever have to RMA your CPU back to Intel, they will replace the CPU for you, no questions asked. I highly recommend looking into this if you overclock.

Also Note: that when you are gaming, if you go to the bios and turn off hyper-threading, your FPS will go up more, like I said before in your last question, as of right now there are almost no game on the market that is optimized for hyper-threading, later on down the road a couple of years and there will be but if you want the best performance when gaming disable HT and then when you do Video editing and more intense workloads enable it again.

Hop this helped you,

Question for Gaming PC?

Andrew Cox

Hello. I am completely new when it comes to computer tech. I bought a lap top and then a desk top computer and I had World of Warcraft on both of them just to try it out. A little lag but no big complaints. But I did want to upgrade my desk top more for gaming because I wanted to play more games and have it run smoother on higher graphics. I haven't played in a while but was thinking about starting again. So I'd like to know what I should know about what I should upgrade and the right tech for me. Just glancing at the side of my PC it says:
AMD Phenom ll 840T Quad-core Processor
6GB DDR3 system memory
1 terabyte hard drive
ATI Radeon HD 4200 integrated graphics

Again I don't really know much, but I would like too learn more. Sorry if I have a lack of information, it's based on ignorance. So please any and all information about the tech that I have or need to have would be very much appreciated and helpful. Or if there is a website that would help me understand better and show me how to install new tech would be greatly appreciated also.

Answer
First I would recommend getting a good graphics card to play high quality games, I own a NVIDIA which is great.

I would also recommend a good quality monitor capable of high resolutions (1080p), since it is what you will be looking at the most.
I have 2 quad processors in my PC, which is more than I need honestly, your processors should be fine.

1 terabyte hard drive is great, however I would recommend getting a SSD (solid state drive) as your (C:) drive and use the HDD as a different drive for extra storage. I have this feature on my gaming PC and it is fantastic, I install all necessary programs on the SSD for fast access to them and other programs that don't take as much space goes in there as well. For my other 1tb HDD I install big programs like steam and other games in there so it doesn't clog up my (C:) drive.

In terms of ram, 6gb won't be enough for big quality games like battlefield and COD, My computer has 16gb ram which does the job well. If you can, 20gb of ram should be more than enough.

Extra additions are double monitors, if you have your old monitor, get another cable and set up a double monitor with your new one. It is helpful for having multiple windows open.

How does PC gaming work?

raoul.z

I play consoles but i never played games on the pc or learned how they do it. Do you buy a controller or just play keyboard? How do you know if your system is powerful enough for certain games? Im totally new so a full explenation would be helpful. peace
Thanks for the response but im still quite confused. Can you explain to me what this means: "Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs)"

Answer
I have the PS3 (80GB MGS4 bundle) and it's beside my desk collecting dust. I plan to clean it so I can continue playing the Killzone series - Killzone 3 to be exact. Now why it's been collecting dust is b/c I mainly use my PC as my entertainment system, especially my gaming PC, will destroy any and all graphics on consoles. I'm not getting arrogant, this is the absolute truth in the gaming community!

Building a gaming PC has its rewards ::

+ You gain a lot of experience.

+ You know what YOU, the gamer, want in YOUR PC, and not some co. giving you 2 or 3 options.

+ Your gaming PC is unique to your tastes.

Downsides in owning a gaming PC ::

- You need to keep informed of what's going on in the PC gaming world (has it's - as well as its +).

- If a game comes out on all platforms - PS3/360/PC - your PC hardware can easily get old if you haven't upgraded or keep it in check. All games will work for consoles, but it's not the same for PCs b/c of low RAM, CPU, or GPU (graphics card) which is the most changed hardware.

- Exclusive games only on PS3/360 leaving PC gamers out unless they own a console.

Most games are hugely targeted for console users, and the PC gamers are left out unless if they have a console. Add to this, PC games can highly be developed with stunning graphics like DX10/DX11, but since the same game is also on consoles, PC gamers most of the time cannot use their PC to its full potential but are stuck using DX9 to balance out all platforms. But you can get around this by mods. An example is Crysis (PC exclusive). It's the de facto of benchmarks for most PC gamers. If your PC can run it, it'll run probably anything you throw at it.

Since I have been using PCs mostly, mouse/keyboard is second nature to me. There has been a "Berlin wall" built up among PC and console gamers shouting m/k is better vs. controllers are better. I have seen controller users very talented so I won't judge. For most PC games, controllers can be used like the 360 controller. If you dislike the button configurations, you can download an app. to reconfigure the controller buttons to your taste. But m/k is easy to learn and adapt.

Building a gaming PC's easy; you need to make sure all the motherboard, CPU, and RAM are compatible with each other and where to connect. If you can install batteries in a remote control knowing where +/- goes, you can build it. Deciding what to buy can be intimidating b/c there's a huge library.

Here are some web sites to help you ::

http://www.build-gaming-computers.com/inâ¦

http://www.build-gaming-computer-guide.câ¦

For $500, it's not impossible to build yourself a decent gaming PC. Add maybe $200 you can build a powerful system. More is better, but we all have our limits.

It all depends on you. Since the majority of games are on consoles, it wouldn't make sense to build a gaming PC and use it to play only a few games. Dividing your time between all three platforms may be tedious. One thing's for sure - I regret buying the PS3 after I discovered my love of gaming on PC (but some games are exclusives like Killzone 3 no way around that so in a way I'm glad I bought the PS3).

new comp for gaming: mac or pc?

H20: your

more reliable: mac or pc? desktop or laptop? cheapest for best? what type?

Answer
PC and desktop. What you want to look for when you buy a gaming machine is the graphics card because it renders 85% of the game the CPU does the remaining 15%. If you want to have a satisfying experience spend something in the neighborhood of 800 to 1000. If you can buy parts from Newegg and have a friend help you build it. You can save hundreds of dollars by building your own. I built one recently for 500 that does a terrific job at gaming on such a small budget. But if you do not have the knowledge, go to a company like ibuypower or cyberpowerpc and get one of their customized rigs. They are affordable and more suited for gaming than regular pc manufacturer. In todays gaming world you need to look for a Core i series processor or a AMD Phenom series. Look for the processor to have have more than 2.5ghz. Also if you can try to get a quad core to future proof a little bit. In the Core i series go with a i5 or i7. i5 will do just fine but i7 is icing on the cake. If you go AMD you will save money. With the saved money go Quad. So in AMD terms, go AMD Phenom x4 and get one with over a 3ghz clock. That will make for a awesome processor.

Now for graphics card, ATi and nVidia are head to head right now so it is a matter of choice. But I have lived on both sides, right now I have a ATi 4890, and I am telling you to go nVidia because of ATi's driver problems that lead to major headaches. If you go cheap, get a GTX 260 or GTX 275 at the least. These are both good graphics card but are not DX 11 so they are not future proof, you will need a new soon down the line. You can get a nVidia 470 for around the neighborhood of 300-350 dollar range.

With those two key components you should being sitting somewhere from 500-750 dollars. Depending on how much power you want. Next get at least 4gb of ram, but ram is a bit expensive when you get to 6 or 8 gb. So you can hold off on those upgrades for now. Hard drive wise it would be smart to get 500gb at 7200 rpm. In total you should expect to pay 750-1000. That is just how it goes. This machine will keep you satisfied for a year and then you will look for upgrades. The great thing about desktop pc's is that they are completely upgradeable. So what you most likely will look at upgrading is your RAM and possibly graphics card. It will 2-3 years down the line before you get another CPU if you are Intel processor based because of their price and they arent backwards compatible. If you go AMD you could upgrade next year and get a six core with a 3.2ghz clock speed for somewhere around 200. Today you will pay 300 or more for that part on newegg.

If you have read all this, you are a champ and want to do this. What I have written is a basic, basic overview, you still have a lot to learn. If you want to know more hit me up at chrisbundy2009@hotmail.com. Happy Gaming.

BTW if you go to Cyberpowerpc, I would recommend the Gamer Dragon 8000 today. I would just change the graphics card in the build to something a little better, but as it sits right now is a good rig for $789. If you get into this, be ready for a expensive hobby but it is rewarding and is far more useful than the alternative game console. Always know that your rig will be really outdated within two years time. Even if you get the best general consumer rig out there, the parts will be good enough for 3 years. Than you will see the average gamer rig beat you.

should i buy this gaming pc from amazon?

Conor

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00A6S3CAQ/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=computers
It has got a lot of positive reviews, so should i buy it?
It has really good specs

Answer
It should handle most games. You may want a more powerful graphics card or bump the ram up to 16gb, but unless you want just the best possible stats it wont matter. Plus all that can be changed later on. The power supply worries me a little but again can be replaced if you upgrade it later on.

How does the amazon pc game download service work?

Notyap11

I've been noticing that you can download pc games off amazon. How does this work? Do you download a product key for steam or does amazon have its own multiplayer servers?

Answer
well, based on the link below; u would install the amazon installer and u would own the game. u can download as many times as u like and don't need to have a constant internet connection (can play offline like steam and origin). Just kinda sux u gotta dl another install utility. I already hav origin (bcuz of BF3) and steam but mass effect 2 for 5bucks is really tempting. I can wait for it to go on sale on steam but who knows if it will since steam and EA like to disagree. ME2 on origin is currently 10 bucks. so amazon's clearly the bettr deal.
As far as servers, I'm sure amazon doesn't have it's own. That's always based on the game just like steam doesn't hav its own servers. They simply provide the means to download the game. If it's a valid multiplayer game you'll b able to play online like usual.
K just bit n bot ME2. looks like u run the installer and then dl the game. also just found 2nd link below. Not sure if the amazon installer stays on ur pc after dl. Doesn't look like it does because ur running the installer not saving it to ur pc.

I'm building a gaming Pc which gives at least 3-5 of future proof.
I have some things that i don't choose (Nearly all the main things) the CPU , GPU , Case and Motherboard
Note:
I'm not from USA but I wil buy these parts from USA , so warranty won't be valid
I'm not an overclocker and mostly won't overclock them because I need longer life time
CPU choose from:
*3rd gen Intel core i5 3570 or 3580k or i7 3770 or 3770k
GPU choose from:(highest performance for single monitor)
*EVGA or Gigabyte 660 ti or 680 or sapphire AMD 7850 or 7970
Motherboard:
You can suggest any with intel z77
Case:
Any good cooling case and with ability to install Corsair hydro cooling

I chose:
*Samsung 1600Mhz 16GB(2X8)
*Samsung SSD 120 for boot
*WD Caviar black 1TB for storage
*Cool Master for cooling or corsair hydro cooling
*Corsair 650 W
* Samsung Full HD 1920X1080 3d SINGLE monitor

Answer
I suggest a Crucial or Intel SSD. Personally I would go for a Crucial M4. I have two, one running for nearly a year, no issues whatsoever. No firmware needed to update. Life is still 100% on both.

CPU, go with the i5-3570k. Do not get i7 for gaming. i7 is only useful for video compression and simulations. Video games only use up to 3 cores, with a few exceptions.. And those exceptions certainly don't NEED more than 3 cores.

Suggest an NVIDIA graphics card mainly out of bias. I have had trouble with ATI catalyst drivers on literally every computer I have ever owned. nVidia is wonderful though! EVGA is a great brand, their step-up program is very useful. Check it out.

I suggest an MSI motherboard. z77 as you said. It doesn't really matter. Get the lowest or the second lowest priced model unless you need the additional features (More USB3.0 slots, etc). Different models won't have a large impact on performance.

You really should overclock that i5 though. That's what the "k" is for! You will get so much more out of it. Get a Zalman cooler. My i5-2500k runs at 4.5ghz on air, 65 celsius on load. 65 is completely safe.
Here's the cooler I use: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118223

Take a look at the HAF912 case! And no, don't go for the 922 or 932! The 912 is perfect!

which is a good gaming pc?

DjKave

I am interested in a gaming pc under $650.i dont know much bout building one.i hav played many games like crysis, etc on my ps3 and now i want a pc that can handle these games at a good quality.i am interested in running the gpu's in sli or crossfire.help me and give me some nice specs.

Answer
You can build a good one for under $650. However, you won't get top-quality parts.

For a video card, I would recommend an HD4670 (about $60-70), get a C2Q (like a Q9400), a decent-priced set of 2GB of RAM, and some other decently priced stuff and you should be good to go!

I hope this helps!

Would you recommend downloading PC games from Amazon?

Kelsey

I have been looking at Sims 3 games on Amazon, and I noticed that all of the PC downloads are usually much cheaper than used copies of the games. Have any of you ever downloaded games from Amazon? If so, how does it work? Were there any problems? Would you recommend it? Thanks so much for any help!

Answer
Personally i have downloaded about 15 games from amazon with no problems.

Basically when you buy amazon games, it takes you to a list of games you have purchased from amazon, where it has a link to download each game and lists the CD key for each game.

After downloaded you wont have to deal with the download page for that game again until you have a new PC you want it on or you bought another game on amazon.

It works really well, never had a single issue with it.

Some games downloaded from amazon link to steam after/during install.

How much does a good gaming PC cost?

Sea Man

Answer
A gaming PC for the average consumer will spend under $750 for the "No Frills" bundled system with average generic components, average performance, and average looking case. An LCD/LED monitor will cost an extra $150 or so.

The price above is dependent on which country and currency that determines the average cost of a computer system.

For browsing and very limited gaming with a screen, it will cost around $500 to $750.

As you mentioned "Good" and not the "Ultimate" or "Best", then you'll be look at middle range with reasonable quality brands, parts and expecting to achieve the recommended gaming resolution of at least 1920+ with medium to high graphics settings and the way the computer and keyboard/mouse looks is up to the consumer's choice and budget; et cetera.

Then you'll be look at least $1500 to $1750. For something that is Best; then the cost is $1750 to $2250. And for Ultimate; you're looking at around $2250 to $3250.

These prices above reflect on the current local consumer market, and only refers to the components if you were to custom build the system yourself for a desktop PC. The price is also based on a singular purpose system for gaming only with a single graphics card.

Those who are looking for the extremes in gaming performance will be spending up to $5,000+ for multiple graphics cards, a large consuming power supply with 4 figures as they can go as high as 1500W or more; memory, hard drive performance; audio capabilities, peripheral accessories et cetera.

I built a dedicated desktop system about 4 years ago specifically for file storage using a proper Raid 5 card to handle 8x SATA drives; and based upon the drives and the card itself; it was close to $3,000; so in saying so, it depends on the usage and configuration of a computer system.

Branded systems, you will expect to pay a lot more; and if it is a notebook; significantly more.

Fast & Reliable Gaming PC Build Under $1000 Before Xmas 2012?

Matthew

k I think i got my brother in laws xmas present figured out (budged gaming PC under $1000 after rebates) Let me know what u think cuz Ive been out of the building game so long..

CPU: i5-3570k $180
MB: ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 $125 - $40 CPU Combo discount
RAM: G.Skill RipJaws X 8GB $40
GPU: MSI N670 2GB 256-Bit $320
PSU: OCZ 600W Modular $45
HD: Samsung 840 PRO 128GB $150 - $20 Mobo Discount
Case: Some cheapo diablotek $40

only thing I'm 100% set on is CPU & SSD

Answer
Sounds good. There are just a few things I would suggest.

1. You can double your SSD size for $50 more. 128 isn't much especially when gaming is concerned.

2. Throw in something along the lines of a at least a 1tb hard drive if you are planning on keeping music, videos, ect on it. Otherwise it sounds good and should get through a while.

3, You may not want to scrimp on the case. Things are made a lot easier with room. And airflow (cooling) is very important.

Best 1000$ gaming pc build 2012?

Title says it all

Answer
Won't be able to tell you yet.

These are scheduled to release 2012:
>Nvidia Kepler has yet to be released.
>Intel Ivy Bridge has yet to be released.
>AMD Piledriver has yet to be released. (Doubt it'll be any good)

However, as of this point the best would be something like:
i7 3970x
High end x79
24gb DDR3
Radeon HD 7970 CrossFireX x2

What is a good gaming/home PC under £750?

Maggie

I'm looking to upgrade my computer, so I thought I'd buy a PC. I need at least 4GB of RAM, Intel Core i5, a graphics card which is capable of supporting Skyrim on High/Ultra and a decent sound card. It should be able to multi-task, and play games such as Skyrim and assassins Creed. The total cost of the PC, OS and the monitor should be no more than £750. Any suggestions (and don't suggest Mac or HP)?
I'm not going to buy internationally. UK based only.

Answer
Try going to cyberpowerpc.com. Build the computer to your specifications. If your going to play Skyrim I suggest getting at least 6GB of RAM preferably 8GB. You should be able to build a pretty emaculate computer with just shy of $1200 (USD), or about 750 (GBP). You will assembly every part of the computer. Or even try checking out some of the pre-built ones that might be on sale. Don't worry they wont be Mac or HP, but they will be PC based computers which are better for gaming. You pick what you want to go together and alerts will show if certain parts are not compatible.

Gaming computer for under $750?

I really can'"t wait for the Diablo III Realse but i have to and I need a new computer along with it

Motherboard - $80

Video Card - $120
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5690057&CatId=3670

Grand total $590 for a budget gaming quad core PC. Toss it all into your old PC case, or spend the additional 100 bucks on a new case of your choice.

You wont need to purchase a new operating system if you have an install disk and the key code for the one on your old system and just use your old hard drive and cd/dvd drive. If you do not have an install disk but do still have the product key for your operating system (usually on a sticker on the case) you can take the new build once completed to a repair shop and give them the key and they should have an install disk they can use to do it for you and shouldnt be too expensive.

Im thinking of buying pc gaming accessories!?

SwatCSI

Today i asked my mom if i could buy some pc gaming supplies: gaming desk, gaming chair, joystick, racing whell, webcam, and gaming speedpad. and 2 new graphics cards. she said yes and as i calculated the price it came to well over 1700$ and i am just wondering is all this stuff worth it? im 14 and like computergames i might play for about 30mins-1hr a day so seriously is it worth it. and by the way i have an amzing pc so games look amzing i just want to enhance the experience! :)

Answer
No, it isnt worth it.

Any desk will do aslong as it has sufficient room and doesnt put the pc into an enclosed space (blocking off air supply and frying the thing)

Any high back chair would be fine aswell, just dont buy a cheapy, get a decently priced one and make sure its a high back chair then you can lean right back.

As for the other accessories, a gamepad or steering wheel can make racing games fun but you need to pick ones that compliment what you want, if you prefer realistic racing a steering wheel is a good idea, otherwise stick with a gamepad for fast and easy control.

A joystick is generally only good for flight simulators so again, choose based on what games you plan on playing, as for the webcam, you dont need to spend an enormous amount on them, just buy a decent one for around $100 with the new rightlight technology or similiar, you dont really need face tracking abnility or to have the webcam turn into a terminator.

As for graphics cards, buy one, not two, SLI is nice and all but one decent card is better than two sub par ones, and two top of the line cards are overkill.

Personally I would buy the second or third from the top card from either ATI or NVIDIA as it should easily be sufficient, a 9800GT or GTX or an ATI 4850 or 4870 should be sufficient for all current and 6 month future games. Save the remaining money and you could buy another newer card in 12 months time.

Having money is great, but spending it needlessly is well, a waste.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

I know I've asked this before, but I don't get very good answers.

Answer
I originally got he g9x until I tried out my boyfriends g500. What a difference. I ened up switching my g9x for his g500 and I'm currently using it. Newegg is good but amazon sometimes has really good deals on them here

For the keyboard, you probably know this already but mechanical switches are louder than the 'normal' keyboards out there.

I get like 40-50 fps at battlefield 3 on low settings. I bought the pc used. It was assembled 6 months ago.
I have updated my video drivers. What other drivers should i update?

Answer
Your gaming pc isn't simply a Processor and video card. You have hard drives which become fragmented, you have drivers that become old and don't support features added in game updates, you have dust that clogs fans and keeps components from working optimally...

I have similar specs, FX-8120, 16gb ram, radeon HD7850 and I play BF3 on ultra settings on 5040x1050 resolution...and I get no lag what so ever.

Of course, I clean my PC every couple of months.

Is this a good gaming PC?

Bobby

I've been picking parts for about 3 weeks and think I've finally settled on this build:

Intel i7 4770k
Corsiar H100I
Asus Z87 Pro
Corsair Dominator Platnium 16GB 1866mhz
Samsung 840 EVO 128GB SSD (for the OS and a few frequently played games)
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200rpm HDD (for files and less-freqiented games)
MSI GTX 780 Lightning (N780)
NZXT Phantom 410 (I will NOT change this I love the look of this case)
Corsair SP120 120mm fans (2 pack) for a push-pull on the H100i top mounted rad
Corsair HX750W
That's the build itself, here are the acsessories:
Windows 7 Professional
Asus VX238H
Razer Blackwidow Ultimate
Razer Deathadder 2013
Corsair SP2500
Razer Electra

Its also on pcpartpicker: pcpartpicker.com/p/1AT0l

Answer
Holy cr** thats a sweet pc! good choice and i also got a NZXT Phantom (best chassis EVER!)
it could probably run every game on the market to date on high-ultra settings!

Building a good gaming PC?

Anonymous

Hi,

I want to get a new PC that will be used for gaming, school work, browsing and general stuff. There's a computer shop near where I live that builds them for basically nothing, you just have too pay for the parts. What are the best specs I could get on a gaming PC for around $1500?

Answer
This is a list for a PC im going to build- I'm getting everything from newegg.com you can go there and read the reviews for all the components. This build should run every game on max settings and is great for video editing which I do.

Corsair Carbide Series 500R
Intel Core i7-3770K Processor
Corsair Hydro Series H100i Extreme Liquid/Water CPU Cooler
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard
Corsair Vengeance 16GB Desktop Memory Module Kit
ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77 Intel Series 7 Motherboard
CORSAIR TX Series CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified
EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW 2GB
Samsung 840 Series 120GB Solid State Drive
Lite-On IHAS124-04 Internal DVD Writer
TP-LINK Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter, 2.4GHz 450Mbps/5GHz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n, WEP/WPA/WPA2 (Wifi adapter)

This build is about $1600 depending if the parts are on sale. I know you are looking for a $1500 build but this list could be changed. You could get a cheaper case. Or downgrade the video card and that should get you to $1500. I'm also getting the hard drive later since I will be getting a 120gb SSD so that saves me $99. Hope this helps and good luck =)
(I just ordered everything today im super excited!!!!!)

Which of these gaming PC builds is superior?

Here I have 2 builds for a gaming PC, I would like to know which everyone thinks is the superior build. The Intel edition is slightly more than the AMD edition but people say the Intel is better than AMD, so which is TRUELY better?

-Intel Edition-

Case: Antec Nine Hundred Two V3

OS: Windows 7 64-bit OEM

PSU: CORSAIR TX750 V2

HSF: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212+

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600MHz

HDD: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB

GPU: EVGA Superclocked GeForce GTX 560 Ti

ODD: LITE-ON iHAS-324

Extras: Antec 120mm Blue LED Case Fan

-AMD Edition-

Case: Antec Nine Hundred Two V3

OS: Windows 7 64-bit OEM

HDD: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB 7200 RPM

GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 6970

ODD: LITE-ON iHAS-324

Extras: Antec 120mm Blue LED Case Fan

Answer
For gaming, the 2nd build is better because it has a 6970 rather than a 560Ti. But that's the only reason. The 2500K in the first build is superior to the Phenom in the 2nd build BUT, the Phenom II X4 980 is no slouch and can easily handle modern games.

An even better build would be the first one, the Intel edition and stick a 6970 in it instead of the 560Ti.
There is zero evidence that AMD chips have to be paired with AMD cards or that Intel chips work better with NVIDIA cards.
Anyone who tells you that AMD cards perform better with AMD CPU's and Intel CPU's perform better with NVIDIA graphics cards is talking straight out of their @rse.

*looks down* Are you a clown? Only the first generation of Intel's i series chips supported triple channel ram and there was no performance benefit in triple over double. Stop making sh!t up.

I just wonder if I can use them to play games on my PS3.

Well, PC controllers have those USB things so I guess you could connect them to your PS3.
The keypad format is the same too....

Is it possible to play PS2 games on PC?

Kyaw Thant

Ok, I had a PS2 about 2 years ago with new consoles coming out and my PS2 broke I was wondering if I am able to play PS2 games on my computer (Desktop PC) with PS2 game Disks. Is it possible? Please tell me if it is.

Answer
It's possible. Fist you need to download pcsx2 0.9.7/0.9.8 with bios & plugins. You have to see a video help in youtube for guide & config. Now a little advise : It will be too harmfull for your DVD rom or writter, if you play ps2 games in PC with disc. So you should save the disc as iso or nrg file using UltraISO full version, then run the iso file by pcsx2 & play. Enable speed hacks to high volume in pcsx2 settings, if your games run slowly. Enjoy............

Is it possible to upgrade a regular desktop pc to the levels of gaming pc?

Kwasi

If its possible then what would i need to buy?

Answer
Yes, any desktop can be upgraded to a Gaming PC.
Make sure your stuff is compatible, some old desktops have outdated stuff like DDR2 RAM, etc.
Also be sure if the processor is compatible with your motherboard.

Upgrading your pc to a gaming pc requires upgrading these things:
Video Card - Important to a gaming PC. The ATI/AMD Radeon 6850 ($150) should run current games smoothly. GTX 560 is $50 more and is more powerful.
RAM - Recommended 4GB DDR3.
Processor - To a Quad Core for smooth gaming. AMD Phenom II or Intel i5/i7 depending on your PC.
Hard Drive Space - Optional if you have 500GB or more
Power Supply - To power the whole PC, since a good graphics card takes a lot of power, you need to upgrade from your current one. Corsair recommended and 500w.

I would recommend any of the four PCs listed above for some medium - heavy gaming. These PCs are by no means considered to be enthusiast but below $800 they are quite good. If you are looking to save $50-$100 on anyone of these machines then you can go to a custom PC building site such as cyberpowerpc.com and configure one with the same specs as the ones i listed. Also when you go to a custom building site they will usually throw in a mouse, keyboard, and some cheapo speakers for free.

Hope this helps!

I've been noticing that the graphics of the newer games are the same, have they finally ran out of ideas? like how cod black ops looks the same as the new elder scrolls skyrim. has anyone ever heard of octrees? why have they never used those before?
good points, i'm just saying, if they were to make the new xbox successor in 2015 use octrees, that would be fu**ing amazing, you could put so much in to that little disk of theirs. and are they still going to use disks? or are they just going to put all of it on the cloud?
@ nasty1.

no one said that they don't care about the game itself. i was just wondering why i see all these game reveiw plays and the graphics were identical.

Answer
The main reason game graphics seem to have halted somewhat at the moment is because developers usually aim games at consoles, as that's where they sell best. Even multi platform games where the primary platform is pc like battlefield 3 need to run well on consoles, and for this reason, at the moment developers are limited by console hardware. They've simply pushed Xbox 360 and PS3 to their limits and beyond what they thought they were capable of. We won't see better graphics in games until the next generation of consoles come out, which will most likely happen between Q4 2013 and Q4 2015

Is the Precision T1650 a good gaming computer?

Jeff

More specifically, I have the option to purchase one (the build with 8 gigs of RAM and 500 gig hard drive ->) for about $200 secondhand. I am currently saving up to purchase the Tom's Hardware Q1 2013 $600 gaming PC build. Games I will want to play include heavily modded Minecraft, Skyrim, World of Tanks, Team Fortress 2, and Left 4 Dead 2. Which is the better option? Why or why not?

Links to what I'm talking about:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/pc-gaming-overclock-build-a-pc,3443.html -- The $600 PC

Answer
No.
For gaming the tomshardware computer is much better.
1. The i5 cpu is a slightly better gaming cpu. The xeon is a better all purpose cpu for intensive computing.

2. The Graphics card is much better in the tomshardware computer. See the link. 841 vs 18

3. I would increase the ram to 8 GB in tomshardware computer.

4. I would trust tomshardware for info over dell.

For gaming it is all about the graphics card and ram. Google for "how to build best gaming computer" and you will see what I mean.
Good luck

Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword
black and white 1 and2

i think thats enough

Answer
Linux doesn't work with any of those games. A $1500 gaming PC will be able to play all those games. But it is best if you build your own PC. Building your own PC gives you the best bang for your buck. If you can do it. But you are probably not up to the challenge. If you want a guide to help you assemble your own PC, read this. This is very informative and has helped many people.

What is the best gaming PC on the market for under $1500?

Logan A.

I'd prefer one that doesn't come with a lot of useless crap.

Answer
Try Carbonfrost Systems Defender Mark I. It comes to about $1400 and you get a pretty good gaming computer for that amount. I am listing the specs below as well as the website address.

http://www.carbonfrost.com/products/defender/

500 Gigabyte Hard Drive
2 GB RAM
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Dual Core
2.3 GHz Processor
DVD±R Burner 18X
ASUS AMD Motherboard
GeForce 7900GS 512MB Overclock Edition Video Card
M-Audio HD Sound Card
Windows Vista Home Basic
Starter Package

This configuration should be more than enough to play alot of the games and you can even go higher on their website. It also comes with 2 year warranty and they removed all unnecessary software (bloatware) from my PC before shipping so it was fast and I got one of the best deals for the price.

Plus they overclock your gaming pc and still keep it under warranty so you are gettting a even better pc than what I listed above. Good luck in your search

PENTIUM D GAME PC $1169.99
Pentium D Dual Core CPU
2 Gb RAM Memory
400 Gb SATA Hard Drive
256 Mb Video Card
Dual layer Dvd Burner
Combo Cd/Dvd Rom
Web Cam
52 in 1 Card Reader
19" Wide Screen Flat Panel
Windows Media Center
Wireless Keyboard Mouse

Answer
There is some major info missing to judge effectiveness for gaming or value. At extremes, if the CPU is a Pentium D 820 Dual Core and the video is a 6200LE, the price (and system) would be horrible, while a 960 and an 8600GTS would be a poor price and a fair system. This sounds old enough that if it is at a store, they really want to get rid of it. It is a closeout and should be *way* under $500. If it is some person selling a used system, maybe half of that.

For an example of what you can get shopping around for sales, see:
http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=71137&t=553826
push the CPU to AMD 5000+ and the video to 8600GTS 256 DDR3) and you would have a good game system for under $500 w/o monitor. Add a 22" wide for well under $300 (My 22" wide westinghouse was $220 at a BestBuy sale) At under $800, THAT would be a good gaming system at a very good price.

For examples of complete systems that are probably at least twice as good at that price (fair for gaming): 1 with monitor:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=999976800050013&type=product&id=pcmprd76700050013
and 1 without monitor:

Who has best prices for PC games?

Q. I used to buy computer games in retail stores, but started to use Steam recently. Now I found out that there are other online stores that let you buy PC games and download them. Which store is best, and why? What are the choices?

Answer
Right now there are many online stores offering PC games for download. It is worth to shop around because they all have competitive prices and many special promotions with huge discounts on individual titles or game bundles. Try these: Direct2Drive, GamersGate, GameDownloads, Impulse, GamesForWindows, GamePlanet, GameTap

If you want to quickly find the best deal on a game, to go GameDealAlerts.com - it is a service that aggregates prices from most of the above stores and even allows you to subscribe to email notification when game(s) you are interested in further drops in price.

I am considering getting a pc mainly for gaming (I would still use it for other things of course), but I do not want to spend over 600 dollars. For that budget, shoud I just get the ps4 or xbox one? If not, then where do I start?

Answer
PC gaming is different to console gaming.
There are more games for consoles than PC, but PC gaming is a bit quicker and more flexible/dexterous. Can also be more technical depending on the game.

Answer
Its an Average gaming PC.

Why buy the 650 Ti and not the 660 Ti.

Why not buy a Gigabyte with 1155 Socket and put an i7 (Any i7 is good), Really what are you going to do the 6 Core Amd Processor ? (I think that 6 Core processor is mostly for servers...).

Now the Power Supplier you chose is good 600 is okay.

So ill give the build you just builded an 5.6/10

Have a nice day.

A Gaming PC configuration ?

SD

Hey.. I was looking forward to get a new Desktop PC. My old one is not enough to support Latest games. I already have a PlayStation 2. But since, All latest games are either coming up on PS3 or PC, I wanted to get a new PC, with some Good Gaming configuration.
A Person who deals in Assembling Gaming PCs suggested me the following configuration :
AMD 7750 Processor
2 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT 1GB
Windows Vista
500 GB Hard Disk

I don't have much knowledge about the Configuration, But he came up with a Total of around 17k for the CPU. I want to play games like Crysis, GTA4, Assassins Creed etc.
Can someone tell me whether this configuration is OK or NOT ?
Or Suggest me a Good configuration (NOT TOO COSTLY) to run Latest PC games ?
Thank-you!

Answer
To play those games esp. Crysis with any degree of smoothness and detail you'll need much more than that to start with. I was using a 9600GT and it struggled with Crysis with any anti-aliasing or higher settings.
I now have a 4890 Radeon, the instantly obsolete one that came out last year, to be superceded a few months later by the 5000 series, which I would look at buying now if I hadn't spent $220 on my card. It's still a great card though, the best single GPU card ATI made until the 5870 came out which would blow it away and is probably overkill for you anyway.
If you can afford a 5850, around 300 or less, go with that if you really want it for heavy gaming.
You could go with the new i5 series CPU,or do what many gamers do and get a fast dual core intel, since quad cores aren't all used yet by games. It is nice to have if you run many programs at once though - mine's a Quad Q8200 and it works fine on an Intel DP45SG mobo.
You'll have to decide between AMD and Intel first, and for now I think Intel has the upper hand with their cpu's, which will determine your mobo.
Then do you go with 775 socket, which is still good but getting old, or go with the new 1156 socket which will allow the latest core i5 chips? I like the i5-750, which is a quad core at a good price.
4GB RAM minimum.
I use a WD 500GB Caviar Black for my data drive, and it's fine. My bootup and OS and a few programs reside on an Intel 80GB X 25-M SSD, and it is screamingly fast, if you want to spend a ridiculous amount for 80GB, or more.
Vista - no! I skipped straight from XP to 7 and avoided Vista like the plague. Win 7 is better and more robust than XP even was. I have the 64-bit version and rarely had compatibility issues.
Asus, Gigabyte make good mobos - I would choose one of theirs for a new build assuming ATX size.

Ok now I read the not too costly bit, so that rules out most of what I said - Go with an Intel core 2 duo for about $100 or so, an Asus 775 socket mobo, the drive is fine, 4GB RAM, a reasonable dvd burner for about $30, a 4850 Radeon video card minimum! or 4770 maybe, Win 7 HP, a decent PSU by Seasonic say 450W minimum - don't buy cheap. If you can afford one get a UPS system for safety or at least a surge protector.
And a decent case to put it all in, with quick release fittings for drives etc.

I think Tom's Hardware has a Gaming PC for several budgets, starting at , I forget maybe 750.

The above should be around 700 or less, at a very quick estimate. You can also get parts off ebay if you feel safe doing that and know what you're doing.

Don't forget the incidentals like sata cables, DVI or HDMI cables, thermal paste and other items you will need,

Make sure the components you choose will work together eg get the right RAM for your mobo, and keep performance in the same range eg a high end gfx card will be held back by a cheap cpu/mobo comination.
Good luck.

Question about Gaming PC?

Colby

Hi guys, I'm looking to buy the best gaming PC I can with a $2,000 budget. I'm not even sure where to begin because I don't have a firm enough grasp of computers to build my own but I definitely don't just want to dump it all into some random alienware one. Any recommendations for either some sort of tutorial on building my own, or maybe just something you guys can come up with for my price range? I also considered buying a Asus g73jh laptop, would that be able to play any PC game to date, or would it just be better to go for a PC? Thanks for taking the time to read and help.

Answer
For less than $2,000, you can get a great PC setup, but it's always better to build your own. If you're not familiar with building your own, then at least go for hardware pack bundles from places such as Newegg.com or Tigerdirect.com.

For PC gaming, the most important pieces of hardware on the top of your list are the video graphics card and the speed & type of the CPU. As you select these, it's a good idea to get a capable motherboard that will take advantage of these. Other very important parts that are overlooked are the power supply, the memory, and the quality of your hard drive.

For the video card, one of the best places you can go to is Tom's Hardware. Take a look at this page: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-460-radeon-hd-5570-gaming,2697.html

Read it, but take note at the last link that is called "Graphics Card Hierarchy Chart". It's a long list of video cards and how they match up. The higher they are on that list, the better. Of course, it completely possible to get a card that is very fast, but is dragged slower by your other components. I would recommend getting either an Nvidia GTX 280,285,470, or an ATI 4870, 5870 or 5970.

For the motherboard, take a look at this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128425
Gigabyte makes good motherboards. That one is highly recommended by several sources for it's flexibility, long warranty and high quality. I have a Gigabyte mb, and it's damn good. Slip a processor in there such as an Intel Intel Core i3-530 Clarkdale 2.93GHz ($114 at Newegg) and you have a system ready for anything 5 years from now. Other comparable good mb's are Biostar and EVGA. If you prefer and AMD compatible mb, get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128443.

Which should you get, intel or amd? It's a tough choice for me. Intel may have a few processors out there that are faster, but AMD's a generally more inexpensive and utilize power and heat very efficiently.

For memory, look into Corsair: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145260
Another good memory manf. is G.Skill. Kingston and Crucial are good, but only if you get the expensive ones.

For power supply units, go for Antec, Cooler Master, or Corsair. At the very minimum, go for a 550w, the higher the better.

The hard drive. Generally, it doesn't make too much of a difference as long as you stick with the known ones, such as Western Digital or Maxtor. But now that the prices have come down, get a SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" with at least 650GB, but 1TB or 2TB is of course, better.

The other things you'll have to cover as per your preference, such as the type of DVD drive, cooling options, operating system and case. If you want better sound than the one that comes with the motherboard, invest in a sound card. All of this shouldn't cost between $850-1,200, depending on your options.

Don't ignore those combo deals from Newegg at the bottom of the page, though. Some will lower your overall price.

That Asus does sound very good, and will play any game to date. I especially like that video chip that it has in it. But remember, a desktop PC will always be better at doing things, & is far more upgradeable, which is important for a gamer. Laptops are also more expensive.

As far as tutorial, I direct you again Tom's Hardware: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/build-your-own-pc,2601.html

Building your own PC is frustrating but very rewarding in the end. You'll have to sweat to installing the drivers, making sure wires are connected correctly, and sometimes hunt online for extra help when you're in trouble. My built PC is 3 years old, can run everything, and with just a few upgrades here and there, will still be a good PC 3 years from now. Plus, I'm making it do things my way, overclocked. There is no advertisements from the manufacturer, no crappy added software. There is no computer manufacturer in the world that can build a better PC than a self built one.

Can anybody find the best gaming pc deal for <£900?

Dillon

Ok can anybody find me the best gaming pc deal for under £900 with a monitor keyboard and mouse included?

This is my current deal and I might leave it for a month or two due to the high hdd prices.

AeroCool X-Predator Evil Black/Orange Full Tower Chassis
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor
Gigabyte Radeon HD 6870 OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
8GB Corsair Vengeance Red (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-15000C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit -
MSI Z68A-G43-B3 Intel Z68 (REV B3) Socket 1155 DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard
850W Corsair TX850 V2 ATX2.3 SLI/Crossfire Compliant Power Supply
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit SP1, Operating System, Single, - OEM 22" Arianet MN22AOCF22+ Widescreen LCD Monitor

Ok so all in all this is around 940 and I would like to see if anybody could find a better deal for the UK or Ireland.
Actually 960 INCLUDING A HDD AND P+P from Aria.co.uk
C-man I plan to have this computer for a really long time and I might crossfire the 6870 or sell it (in a year) and crossfire some of the newer cards as the mobo is crossfire compatible

Answer
That seems like a great deal. I suppose you could make an argument for this:

http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/computers/mainstream-intel-sandy-bridge/

I was able to configure a build with:

Cooler master Sileo 500 case
Asus PH867-M motherboard
Core i5 2500K
GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1gb
8gb Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600Mhz
Corsair TX650
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
22" Widescreen LCD monitor

for 942.

I went lower-end in areas which don't really affect gaming performance (psu capacity, mobo, case, RAM speed) in order to upgrade from the GTX 560/Radeon HD 6870 level to the GeForce GTX 560 Ti.

It's fully configurable so play with the options. If you're not going to overclock, getting a Core i5 2500 or even 2400 makes sense, because that frees up more cash to allocate on the GPU side.

Even a 550W Corsair/Antec/Seasonic psu is enough for a Radeon HD 6950 so why exhaust your budget on the 850W?

I think Aria is offering incredible value for the money, but your GPU is the most important component for gaming performance and that's where you'd want to splurge, not on the mobo, psu, case etc.

Building a Gaming Computer?

Hi i am 14 and i want to build my very own Gaming computer
i am new to this whole computer thing so i don't really know what to buy so if you could give me some info or a guide that would be Great!
preferences: i want to be able to play Minecraft on MAX setting and be able to record it with fraps, i also want windows 7, i need a good enough cooling unit to be able to leave it on for 2-3 days straight... Also (this is pretty Important) i only want to spend up to £500, would this be ok,
Thanks, Alex

Answer
500 pounds is fine for a gaming PC, especially for minecraft.
You'll need these parts at least, ordered from most to least important for gaming:
-Graphics card
-Processor
-RAM
-Harddisk
-Motherboard
-Power supply
-Case (with fans)

The graphics card is what creates the image on your screen. You can get a great graphics card for about 100 pounds. I'll take the HD6770 as an example, which costs 92 pounds on amazon. You can get better cards, but this one will be more than enough for casual gaming including minecraft.

Processors are the "brain" of the computer. Fast processors make a computer do things fast. AMD recently released a nice new processor: The AMD FX-4100. It's a decent performing quadcore processor for the low price of 80 pounds.

RAM isn't really that important as long as you have enough. 4GB is enough, there is no need for more. Just get 1 time 4GB or 2 times 2GB of DDR3 1333MHz RAM. It's cheap, it's good and better isn't exactly much faster, so don't bother for better. The price: 20 pounds.

The harddisk is where computer data is stored, as you may know. Slow harddrives will result in long loading times, which makes people sad. You can buy a 500GB or 1TB harddrive with your budget. This should cost around 60-80 pounds. No need for something more expensive.

Motherboard doesn't contribute to performance. You just have to make sure it works with all your other parts. If you'd go for the AMD FX-4100 processor, which is a socket AM3+ processor, you NEED a socket AM3+ motherboard to go with it. Always match your CPU and motherboard, otherwise it won't work. You can get motherboards as cheap as 40 pounds, which really are all you might need. Don't bother spending more than 80 pounds on a motherboard, you probably won't need it.

You'll obviously need a case to hold your parts. You probably should get a midi tower. It's big enough, but not too big like big towers. You can get decent enough cases for 30 to 80 pounds, around 50 pounds should provide you a nice case though.

Now for the power supply. Around 350/400W should be fine for this setup, which should cost you around 20-50 pounds. Assuming 40 pounds for now. It doesn't really matter what PSU you buy, as long as it provides enough Watts, it's fine.

Final step: Windows 7. You can pirate it or buy it, ill assume you buy it for now. Home Premium will cost you around 110 pounds. Don't bother getting a better version, it's a waste of money.

To add things up:
Graphics card: 100
CPU: 80
RAM: 20
Motherboard: 50
Harddisk: 80
PSU: 40
Case: 50
Windows: 110
Total: 530 pounds. A little over your budget, but i can't be assed to change everything i got now to fit into the 500 pounds budget. It will run any game, though newer games on lower settings. Cooling isn't a big problem with these components, so you can play games for 3 days straight if you'd want to.

I'd recommend you to look some computer building tutorials and tips on google. You're fine with what i listed above here, but you might want to change some things like getting a better graphics card, or a better CPU.
