If you were to build this system and order all the parts from a newegg.com or a Tigerdirect.com, this would be a great deal. However, I know that this setup is from a company online that pre-build computers or custom build computers. Frankly, you will not receive the highest quality products choosing this route, however you being offered two things of value here. The graphics card being that it is an 8800GT which cost around 300 dollars and the CPU which costs around 180 dollars. There is nothing wrong with anything you will be given with your purchase. 320 GB hard drive is nothing to snuff at, however you can buy this for 80 dollars. The memory you can buy for 50. The cabling is not going to add much to your cost, especially if you buy XFX Motherboard.

If you have a little computer know how, I would configure a system yourself for almost the same cost. First, for 10 dollars more you can get the e6750 which has significantly higher clock speed, 2.66 GHz instead of 2.3 GHz. You really need a better CPU cooler something decently silent as well. Go with the Tuniq Tower 120, I know that it is 50 dollars but there are many features and performance advantages that make it worth it. Instead of the Samsung drive, go with an HP light scribe, they invented the light scribe technology after all. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LightScribe I have burnt many DVDâs on the HP without any coasters. The light scribe is pretty cool as well.

If you buy an Intel motherboard that will be able to run 65nm chips and 45 nm chips you will be set for the next few years. Having SATA support and the fastest FSB possible will enable you not to upgrade for a while. If you can get 1333MHz FSB you are set. The only thing is SLI is not on the board you recommended unless you pay much more. I honestly donât think you need it. However if you think you do you better make sure that the P5K version you purchase has it. For SLI and everything else you would ever need, the P5K version will cost you 200 dollars. For 150 dollars you can buy the XFX nForce 680i LT SLI that does everything and comes with cables. Here is a Tigerdirect link:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2959594&Sku=P450-9102&SRCCODE=GOOGLEBASE&CMP=OTC-GOOGLEBASE

The 550 watt power supply will work effectively to power everything now or at least that is the hope. Currently the PSU you stated cost about 92 dollars. However, here is the deal; you will someday want to expand your computer. Someday you will want to add an extra graphics card into an SLI configuration (if you have the right motherboard) , add two extra hard drives, add a TV tuner card, or add a soundcard. In the event that you donât have enough power being supplied to your components after your upgrade, you have to buy another PSU at that point. NO FUN! The best way to look at this issue to is, buy something NOW that will be able to run with upgrades and overclocking for the future. Basically, a power supply with three rails, modular connections, and enough power for future upgrades is what you need to consider. In this case I would go with something like the Antec NeoHE 650 or a Cooler Master with 650 watts and Mod Connections. That should be enough power for your game usage and power hungry applications with consideration to future upgrades.

Here is a guide of how power supplies work and what is important when considering your future needs: http://www.bleedinedge.com/guides/psu_select/psu_select_01.html

The 8800GT is defiantly worth spending money on now. I know that if you wait someday it will go down in price, but by the time it may be difficult to find it on store shelves. Then you will want to wait for something better then the 9800GT. The 8800GT for the value is a steal, especially if you can find it under 300 dollars. Direct X 10, have you seen coverage for it? It is simply astonishing. With this graphics card in your system you can throw anything at it and it wonât choke. Playing games in High Resolution Settings is such a benefit. Here is a link that has a video about the card:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3427124&CatId=1826

I would invest in a better case personally. Good heat flow with easy access and upgrade functionality is a major bonus. It costs more now but in the long run, saves you a lot of heartache. I bought a cheap case from a pc show and ever since I know I should have invested more in it. The sound insulation is terrible and the look of the case is not brilliant! You can buy a great case for 100-150 dollars.

When it comes to dollars and cents, the custom build by online company seems like the best deal especially since it is guaranteed for one year. However that means if you computer breaks down youâre stuck without a computer for a few weeks (because you have to send it in). The best way to go about it is to be your own technician. Customizing your own computer and following it up with High Quality components, is the best way to go. You will end up spending the same or a little more then the prebuild but the experience will be far greater value than the difference. Really the difference is only going to be about $150 dollars but you bought much higher quality parts than what was offered with the prebuild. So you are maxing out the value of your purchases and at the same time sticking close to your budget.

If you have any more concerns,
Just let me know.

Good Luck!
Best Wishs!

Gaming PC: What parts?

Katniss Ev

I'm building a Computer at the moment, and kind of need help deciding on parts.
The PC would for Gaming, Video and music Editing i guess, but i'll also need it for the boring basic stuff.

Here's what i was thinking:

Samsung F3 HD103SJ 1TB internal Hard Drive SATAII 32MB Cache 7200RPM

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Six-Core Processor - 3.30 GHz, 9MB Cache, Socket AM3, 125W.

Asus1366 Sabertooth X586400MT/S Motherboard

VTX3D 2GB Radeon HD 5450 DDR3 PCI-E 2.1 Graphics Card

Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 SDRAM Memory

CiT 750W Power Supply Unit with PSU and Dual 12V Rails
(plus of course a case and monitor and stuff.)
Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Answer
Okay, I specialize in video cards and processors and I know enough to get along in RAM. I can't help you with the power supply or motherboard. As for your hard drive, I would recommend a solid state because they are quieter and much faster. 7200 RPM is OK, though. If you ever need to find out how good a processor, video card, hard drive, mobile phone, or system configuration is go to http://www.passmark.com/. Click on "Benchmarks" at the top. It takes you to the CPU Benchmarks. So lets start with that. Click on High End CPU Chart. As you can see, the 1100T has a rating of 6,297 and is in 53rd place from the top. That is very good. It should be able to handle very demanding games such as Crysis 2 at maximum settings with ease. Personally, I think it's the best deal. The i7 880, which ranked BELOW it, is $400 more expensive. The 1100T is a very good deal. As for your video card, that is a VERY poor choice. As you can see, it doesn't even make it to the High End Video Card Chart. You will not be able to play any demanding games with that card. With AMD video cards, the first number signifies the generation (6 is the current one, and 5 was last generation). But the second number is the one that makes the most difference. See, your second number is a 4. It doesn't really get much worse than that!!! If you want a gaming computer, I would go for NOTHING under a 6 for the second number. May I make a recommendation? How about the HD 6670? It's only $90 from Newegg, and, trust me, you get what you pay for. Any video card with a rating above 1,000 is more than you need. This has a rating of 1,341!! That is the video card you should get. As for your RAM, I would go with 6 GB. Right now, you're fine with 4 GB, but as newer games and newer Windows versions come out, that extra 2 GB will really come in handy several years from now. Look through the prices and see what you like. One thing I really don't like about Passmark is that they only list prices of less than half of the video cards, so there might be better deals out there if you froogle a little.

Brand buying advice

You get what you pay for. Systems with high end parts with low prices are to be viewed with suspicion. They have to cut corners somewhere to get the price down. What cost you less today is going to cost you more tomorrow.

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. Lenovo will not allow people to read instruction on how to access the BIOS menu or to get info on their puters on their web site unless you connect to them thru Facebook. They do this so they can spy on their users. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Ultrabooks are the higher end of Wintel laptops but they have some of the same concerns as Apple. They make it next to impossible to change any hardware in them. Service of them will have to be done by the manufacturers. With most of them, you can not change your own battery or hard drive. They are designed to catch your eye but they are not any more special then other laptops except for the fact that they are slim or thin. Your paying for it being thin and slim. For the money your going to spend on it you can buy a much better laptop with more power.

Hybrids are the worse of the worse. The flip or detachable touch screens are just a disaster waiting to happen.

Never buy an All In One. They are far worst then laptops of any kind to service and they have a higher failure rate.

Choose wisely.

:)

Good Pre-built Gaming PC under 1000 dollars?

Luke Smith

It would be nice if it had an i5, 8 gigs of ram, and if possible, 750 watt psu. Don't say alienware. Thanks.

Answer

It comes with an i5 cpu, 8Gb memory, 800 watt power supply, GTX 560 1Gb graphics card, Blue Ray Player, 3yr warranty, and 1TB Hard Drive. And the current selection comes with 20 dollar MIR. You can also change the case and other items to suit your needs. If you dont want the blue ray you can save yourself 40 dollars. Only pain about this website shipping is very expensive 75 dollars for 10-15 days. But there are coupon codes that work myspace for $30 off with price $799+ and Spring0410 for 5% off 999+.

Should I Buy A Gaming PC?

crazyjacks

I really feel that console games are limited by their hardware and that the next generation of game systems is going to be coming out really soon.

However, I don't know if I would like to buy the next generation of consoles. PC Gaming is improving every month, and it's starting to grab my attention.

Right now I'm not very comfortable using a mouse and keyboard for playing games, but I think it's something I can get used to.

Here's why gaming on a computer looks nicer for me

- Better Modding Support
- Better Online Multiplayer (64 players on Battlefield 3 looks amazing)
- When games get better, you only have to replace certain parts, you don't have to buy a whole new system
- Free Online Play
- Not tied to one multiplayer platform (such as Xbox Live or PSN)
- Can play old pc games that came out many years ago
- Games are cheaper

There's probably some others but I'm too tired to think right now.

Budget is not really a problem for me, I have about $5000 I'm willing to spend as I make a decent amount of money through my websites. I'm also currently in high school so I believe a powerful machine could help with school (although I do already own a MacBook Pro and iPad 2 so I don't see much more benefit from this for school)

I'm also a programmer and I think programming on a powerful fast computer with a nice display would be very comfortable. Especially since memory management is one of my weak points.

Anyhow, this is getting very far off topic. Your input is appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
If you love gaming investing in a PC is the way to go in my opinion.

Now with that much money you can definitely build a beast. My advice would be to ask a knowledgeable friend who could build one for you from parts, or that you educate yourself into building one. You'll save a lot/get a much better PC for the same price.

I am looking for a decent gaming machine without getting way too costly... I have did a search and PC's change every couple days to a point I am not up enough to make decision. I would like to stay below 1k..... I mainly want to play the upcoming arama 3 and flight simulators..It will be hooked up via HDMI (which is a must) to my living room 62 inch TV... Any advice? I am on Newegg but lost as to what I need?

You'll want an Nvidia GTX 680 for the graphics card. For the CPU, perhaps an intel i7-3770K.

PC Graphics Card Problem or Just Cheap Card?

Freddy

Although I know enough to get around, I am far from a computer genious. That is why I had a friend of mine build me a computer that he felt would be acceptable for gaming. Games are working very poorly. Other then the specs (listed below) there are a few factors that may, or may not be relevant.

- According to systemrequirementslab my computer exceeds the reccomnded specs for all games I tested, with the exception of Battlefield 3, where it appears to come far short.

- The games that run extremely lagy (Max Payne 3, Tom Clancy Ghost Recon Future Soilder) seem to run a bit better, sometimes even smoothly after I restart my computer.

- All drivers are up to date, running current DirectX

The guy that built this computer for me says that there must be some problem and says I SHOULD be able to run these games without problems and it is just a matter of ironing something out (probably small) and things will work great. My brother-in-law says that the graphics card is bottom of barrel and likely is connected right and just cant handle these games.

My question is.......who do you think is right? I'm hoping to god after spending over $1k on this computer the answer isnt that the machine cant handle these games.

I'm not super confident that I am computer savy enough to wipe the drivers you are talking about, or re-install windows. But as it stands now it wont run any of these games (Max Payne 3, Dirt Showdown, Tom Clancy Ghost Recon Future Soilder, F.E.A.R.3, Alan Wake American Nightmare) on top settings and only most only get a letter better when settings toned down. Strangely, Portal 2 works completely free of any problems. Is it just a coincidence that AFTER I restart my computer, these games seem to work much better for a period of time?

Answer
What's your power supply? It needs to be 500W+ or more.

What are your temperatures? Overheating can cause poor performance. Download a program like SpeedFan and open it when your playing these games and also when you have everything closed (just idling) and look at the temps.

The GTX 560 isn't bottem of the barrel - it's not super high end, but it's still decent. I had a similar card and I was able to get high settings. I would also agree with the above poster that you should try a clean install of Windows and get the GTX 560 drivers from the manufacturers website along with the motherboard drivers (if you know the model).

Any system that cost $1000 should be able run any game at Ultra settings. I'm not sure how you got stuck with a GTX 560, because I know there are builds with for the same price that have 30% better graphics cards and comparable processors.

I'm planing on upgrading my configuration (nothing too fancy, alright) and I just want to know your opinions on it. I'm changing the motherboard, CPU, GPU and RAM, but here are the full specs:

Case: Cooler Master HAF X RC-942-KKN1
Motherboard: Asus P8P67 (Socket 1155)
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500 3.3GHz
GPU: Asus ENGTX560 Ti 1GB GDDR5
RAM: Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 HyperX X2 Grey Series 1600MHz
PSU: Seasonic SS-850KM 850W Modular
HDD: 2 x Western Digital 500GB SATA III Caviar Blue 7200rpm

Maybe I'll replace one of the hard drives with a 120GB SSD.

So, what do you think?

whats a powerful gaming desktop 2012?

John

i want to get my nephew a powerful desktop computer which means a strong powersupply that won't burn out, fast graphics card and newest most powerful graphics engine, good amount of ram that supports hundreds of 3d units on screen without lag, at least a 4ghz processor speed, i would say a 1tb harddrive or maybe larger, how much do you think i could get one with top notch technology for? im guessing it could even cost a few thousand but i want an answer from an experienced gamer, and also i need to know what good compatible motherboard will fit with the excellent graphics card

Answer
You can get a top-flight gaming system for about $1700-$2000. While spending $2500-$3000 would yield an even higher-end rig, your performance would only be moderately better. Expense rises much faster than performance does above $2000.

Did you say "at least 4Ghz"? There are no processors with a clock speed of 4Ghz unless you overclock them to that point. But Ghz isn't a direct measure of performance anyway. The 3.7Ghz Phenom II X4 980 and 3.6Ghz FX-4100 are much slower in games than a 3.3Ghz Core i5 2500K. And for gaming, the Core i5 2500K or 2550K are better choice than a Core i7 2600K, because there's almost no difference in gaming performance but the Core i5 costs $100 less, which is money you can spend on a higher-end graphics card instead.

If you've got money to spare, then get a Core i7 2700K but there are rapidly diminishing returns beyond the Core i5 2500K level. Since gaming performance is determined 70% by your graphics card, it's counterproductive to spend an extra $200 for a CPU that's only 5-10% faster rather than a graphics card that's 50-75% faster.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/the-sandy-bridge-review-intel-core-i7-2600k-i5-2500k-core-i3-2100-tested/20

8GB of RAM is plenty for any gaming build (no games require more than 4GB anyway). Spending more money for 16GB doesn't improve gaming performance at all, it just raises the price.

While Nvidia's new cards are expected to start shipping within the next few months, AMD's new generation cards are already available. I'd recommend building a system with a Core i5 2500K and Radeon HD 7970 (the newest high-end GPU, although not more powerful than the older GTX 590 and Radeon HD 6990). Anything of the GTX 580 level or higher is considered top notch, it just a matter of your budget.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5476/amd-radeon-7950-review/12

When you're into that really expensive category of hardware, dual cards like a pair of 7950s are better than a single GTX 590 or Radeon 6990 anyway.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-590-dual-gf110-radeon-hd-6990,2898-19.html

I recommend a Sandy Bridge system (Core i5 2550K or Core i7 2700K) along with a Z68 motherboard, the X79 platform is just overpriced.

Don't waste time with AMD's FX-8120 or 8150 processors. Those have weaker gaming performance than any of Intel's current Core i5 or i7 processors. Even the Core i3 2120 beats all of AMD's processors in most games.

Is there a good gaming PC under $1000?

Trevor

Hey guys, I was debating on getting a gaming PC that will run games like Battlefield, Fallout and Skyrim on high or very well near it. The only problem though is I do not have the know how to build my own so I would need to buy a pre-made brand, such as alien ware or others. Gaming PC build for under $1000?

Daniel G

I'm having some trouble figuring out what I should use for my first gaming PC build.

I'm on a bit of a budget so I'm shooting for under $1000.

any help?

Answer
This is a badass budget PC:

ATI Radeon 4850: $160 (after $30 rebate)
BFG 800w PSU: $130 (after $40 rebate)
Q9550: $330
OCZ 4GB RAM (2x2GB dual channel kit): $43 (after $30 rebate)
Case ~$50-100 (depending on style preference)
750i motherboard: $150-200
500GB Hard Drive: $60-75
Vista Home Premium 64-bit: $100
DVD burner: $25-50

This would put you at around $1000. You can easily substitute for cheaper items such as the motherboard and case and even the video card. I wouldn't go too low on any of them, though.

Recommended System Requirements:
Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon XP processor (or better)
ï¼384(+) MB of RAM
ï¼16x DVD-ROM drive
ï¼4.7 GB of free Hard Disk space for a full install
ï¼128(+) MB Video Card with DirectX 9 compatible drivers ("GeForce4" or better)
ï¼DirectX 9 compatible Surround Sound Card
ï¼Game pad** with twin axis analog controls (USB or Joystick Port)
ï¼Keyboard & Mouse
** I suggest 12 buttons minimum. I use the Logitech Dual Action â¢, as it works straight from the box without any special drivers. Seitek also nice. Attempting to use console controllers may take hours to find the right driver(s) and then still not work.

Is getting a gaming pc worth the money?

Megatron

ive decided i want a gaming pc because ive heard that gaming on a pc is better than gaming on a console and all i need to know is that whether its worth the money or should i stick with my Xbox 360, can u also include some advantages and disadvantages of owning a gaming pc

Answer
Well it depends on what you use it for:

Advantages:
Good processor
Good for 3D CAD (Computer Aided Design) stuff because of its GFX Card
(Maybe) Good HD Space
Good or bad: use a mouse to aim and keyboard to move (I like it, I find it easier than analog)
Good game library
(AND A HECKLOAD OF BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY =D)
Free Online gaming (Halo 2 PC for instance)
Good games in general (AVA, Age of Empires III, Mass Effect 2*)
*Computer Screens have adjustable resolution
Some PC's have integrated Mics and Webcams
You can use Steam (for cheaper games)

Disadvantages:
Somewhat costly
(Depends) Low Battery Life
There may be more hackers in CERTAIN online games
Some games not on PC (COD3?)
Internet Connection (It's good, but if you don't have wireless or a long enough cable..)
May sometimes be slow if hardware requirements are not met.
SOME backwards compatibility issues (Doom I on Vista for instance)

Overall: It goes down to whether you like aiming with a mouse and moving with the WASD keys. I personally find the setup comfortable.

EDIT:
By the way, some games like Halo 2 PC can use the XBox controller to play.

PC Vs. Console Gaming?

Corey

What are some pros and cons for PC and Consoles when it comes to games?

Answer
depending on pc configuration pc gaming is in a different league, graphics wise they can easily outdo any game console available today, pc games are cheaper, use of a mouse and keyboard has a big advantage in several games, also a powerful gaming pc, is also a very powerful pc, great for web browsing video editing etc, thousands of possibility's,

games consoles are primarily just for games, they do have other features, but a pc will be better at these other features, games console would be cheaper to purchase, however games will soon add up in price, games consoles will start up faster than a pc,

i have a quad core gaming pc as well as a PS3 i mainly use the PS3 for Call of duty games (black ops at the moment) and for exclusive games like Gran turismo 5 & Metal Gear Series, i use PC for everything else.currently Deadspace 2 (awesome) pc versions of games completely destroy console games for quality, graphics and physics.

What retailer can I trade PC games into?

Q.

Answer
You'll get the best trade in value for video games from a place like Play N' Trade, they value games based on market value, not "We're a huge corperation and this game is old, so it's worth nothing". I'm not sure if they take PC games though. If not, call gamestop.

Is this a good budget gaming PC?

mrdreadloc

I don't have much money, so this will go towards just the tower of the PC, a budget of 500 GBP (776.62 USD).

So anyway, here are the parts:

PC Case -
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/components/cases/cases/novatech/nov-night.html

nVidia GeForce GTX 460 Video card
Novatech PowerStation Gaming 600W Silent ATX2 Power supply (Xfire/SLI)
AMD Athlon II X4 630 Quad-Core Processor (2.8GHz)
ASUS M4A87TD/USB3 - AMD 870 Motherboard (Xfire/SLI)
Corsair CMV4GX3M2A1333C9 2 X 2GB DDR3 SDRAM Memory
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ITB Hard drive, SATA
Liteon IHAS324-32 24x Internal DVDRW Black Retail SATA
Xilence Red Wing Quiet Fan X2 120mm

All of this comes up to 459.29 Pounds (713.37 dollars)

A friend has some spare parts, that I can use to further reduce the costs if I need then, I will look for optical drive, hard drive, RAM, Windows. Everything else I will buy!

I will be playing games like Crysis, Black Ops, Bad Company 2, GRID, DiRT 2, games that use DX11. I will be playing in full HD resolution, later date if I need to overclock CPU, I will buy liquid cooling and overclock if necessary.

Is this a good budget gaming pc for someone who is almost broke?

Answer
hm.. this is a good question I hope other people will take a look at this question
anyway since you want to play DirectX 11 games with High Resolution obviously GTX460 is not the solution for you cause according to the series classification x60 belongs to mid range series,
but you can't see much of different when you play modern games like Crysis ,Dirt 2,GRID ,cause they don't demand high end PC but in future? now look at good old fellow nVidia 8800GT
the good news is you can play every game on it. non of games exclusively come for DirectX 11 either they supported for DirectX 9 or 10 so obviously you can play that on 8800GT with Max settings that because it's a High End graphic card, the life time of high end graphic card is realtively higher than Mid Range graphic cards ,can u play games on 8600 now? most of games even don't work with mid settings on 8600 card it's the reality. so think about few years beyond the present.

,Crytek says the next version of Crysis which is 2nd installment would demand less hardware requirements compare with its predecessors however still you need High End graphic card to play those "monster" games with Higher Resolution + Max Settings with 4x Anti Aliasing. but consider the budget you have got I don't think so you can go for such a graphic card. nVidia is always expensive compare with ATI so the alternative solution is try ATI but I wouldn't recommend ATI cause nVidia has much of techs compare with ATI like CUDA, PhysX which is highly apply with games like Crysis therefore PhysX uses GPU instead the CPU ,CPU can be used to another work which probably speed up the game play in higher settings.

I found out on newegg EVGA 01G-P3-1465-AR GeForce GTX 465 (Fermi) 1GB
it's slightly better than 460 which was early Was: $224.99 but
Now: $199.99 ,it's cheap ,it has 5 ratings that obviously shows its worth.

instead go for DDR3 RAM you can try with DDR2 + extra memory ,I see you intend to buy 4GB RAM but you can buy 6GB Memory which has more memory capacity but it doesn't reduce the performance believe me it works fine. DDR2 is still fine for HD gaming experience. try newegg where you can find cheap and good stuffs with lowest shipping rate.

your selection is good but don't go for 1TB hard disk just reduce to 500GB that's more than enough,
then you can save few bucks that you can use for investing on another part. of course you can feel full HD gaming experience with this budget but the thing is NOT how much you have got.but
how would you spend that.!

I would suggest this so you can consider this SYSTEM.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130555
(U can try this GPU but it shows relatively lower frame rate on DiretX11 games with Max Settings
and on Higher resolution
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814134123
http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gts-450-review-roundup/20)

Without Shipping you can buy this for 762.92US$ on new Egg and I am pretty sure you can try on other places too. try a DVD writer instead of a BlyRAY writer which probably reduces the cost if you wanna save more.

Help building a gaming pc budget $700?

Bryan

Is there that big of a difference between the i3 and i5? I don't know which one to get. I would prefer the i5 but it is more expensive, and I heard the i3 is still good. I just want to know will the i3 be able to play future games good still. I have a $700 budget and I want the i5 3570k with the Radeon 6950 but they are expensive. What other choices could I go with that would be good?

Answer
$700 is not enough, even for a good budget gaming PC. Make that $800 and you're in business...

YES, there is a big difference between an i3 and an i5, first of all, i3 are dual core processors while i5 are quad core.
For gaming, you get good enough results with an i3-2130 or even an i3-2100 processor. And YES, it will play most modern games very good, even future games.

Radeon HD 6950 is $200 or over, so it will add another $60 or more to the price. it is a much better card than the GTX460 Fermi.
For best possible with the parts above you will spend a total of around $950.

Best gaming PC 2013 1000-1500$?

Paul

Title

Answer
The best processor for gaming that is out there right now is the Intel i5 3560K. i7 isn't necessary for gaming and is more suited for doing picture and movie editing or Photoshop kind of applications and would cost you about $100 more. I would pair a 3560K with a mid-range MOBO and 16 gb of ram. The real test in cost would depend on how crazy you want to get with the graphics cards. Check out this link for benchmarks on most of the highest-end graphics cards and prices as well:
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

For a crazy high-end gamer, I would suggest (if starting from scratch) spending about $800 to $1000 on everything before GPU and the remaining money on the GPU(s) themselves. Of course there are always ways to cut price by getting 8 gb of ram, and maybe a cheaper case. All is up to you :)

PS3 and PC gaming headset?

Justin

So this is sort of a two part question. I want to get a pair of gaming headphones for xmas and want to give my parents a heads up so that they have time to look for them. Does the ps3 controller micro usb give gaming options like the xbox does? I want some headphones that will work on my PC, iPhone, and my PS3. Is there is a pair of headphones that will work, or will i have to get two pairs? I have seen pairs that are universal but i have never heard of the companies. Any help is great thanks!!

Gaming desktop for $500?

BC

Thinking of getting a gaming desktop and my budget is $500. It needs to be able to play games like Fallout 3, Fallout NV and most of the modern games like call of duty. I can't build one.

Answer
You won't be able to buy one new or build one with the needed specs in that price range. Your best bet would be to find one used on Ebay.

I just did a quick check and something like this would set you back $180 + shipping:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Workstation-xw4400-C2D-E6600-4GB-500GB-ATI-R4670-1GB-DVD-RW-WiFi-N300-/271011482228?pt=Desktop_PCs&hash=item3f198b0a74

That's just the first one I could find after a really quick search. Just make sure you match up the system requirements for each game you want to play with the hardware listed in the description.

On the whole it looks fairly solid but why not have an SSD for the OS install and games. This will make a perceptible difference in load times.

I also can't see an audio card in your rig.

PC Gaming worth it or not?

Jose Gomes

I was looking to get into pc gaming and I wanted some opinion if I should or not

Answer
PC games are great on graphics and more future secure than consoles.
1. Mouse and keyboard support
Well, duh. Console kids who have grown up with a controller in hand might argue, but
there's still no better way of playing just about any game in any genre â not just shooters â
than the combination of keyboard and mouse. It just works, offering orders of magnitude
more precision and speed than fiddly analogue sticks.
2. High screen resolutions
While Microsoft and Sony scream about 'true HD' in their games â but in many cases don't
actually deliver it â the PC has been happily running games at 1080p and above for yonks.
In fact, the near-HD default res of 1,280x1,024 is very 2001; even a medium rig can handle
1,600x1,200 or more these days.
3. Free mods
Were you a raw naif, you might be forgiven for thinking that LittleBigPlanet et al single-
handedly invented the idea of (nnnggh) 'user generated content'. But guess what? PC
gamers have been coding mods (modifications) such as add-ons, total conversions,
unofficial levels and all manner of other gubbins for⦠well, pretty much forever. And then
distributing it for free, for the sheer love of it.
4. Upgradeable hardware
With the aforementioned higher resolutions and textures, chances are a new PC game
already looks better than its console counterpart right now. But even if you can't run it with
all the visuals tweaked to the max, processor and graphic cards prices drop so quickly that
it's hardly bank-breaking to refit your rig in a year or so, for better graphics and more
speed.
5. Cheaper games
Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo's licensing and publishing costs inevitably drive up the cost of
every single game released, and even pre-owned games tend to be far pricier than the PC
equivalent.
6. You're not tied to one online service
Imagine not having to rely on a single, central server such as Xbox Live or PlayStation
Network whenever you go online. Imagine not having to suffer downtimes, silly licensing
agreements, or daft console-restricting DRM. Oh wait⦠that's the PC online, isn't it?
7. No extra dosh needed for playing online
Okay, this only applies to Xbox Live, but who's to say that Sony might not start charging
for PSN as it keeps haemorrhaging money? And yes, Xboxers can use the free Silver
service, but really â why would you?
8. Unlimited storage space
The Xbox 360 is limited to whatever can fit on a DVD (or, if you're unlucky, more than one).
The PlayStation 3 has to struggle with turgid Blu-ray access and enforced installs. PC
games, meanwhile, just sit happily on the potentially unlimited storage space of your hard
drive. Easy.
9. Save game hacking
Like modders, PC gamers are rabidly enthusiastic about pulling apart save games and data
files, fiddling therein, and finding ingenious ways to cheat or fix corrupted files. Try doing
that with your Wii.
10. Unofficial fixes for older games
PC games such as Vampire: The Masquerade often get unofficial, free, support long after
publishers have gone kaput and official support is abandoned, thanks to the tireless efforts
of their fans. Bug fixes, enhancements, new hardware support â it's all there.
11. Abandonware
The geek term for 'old games which you can't buy any more'. There are a huge number of
classic PC titles out there from years gone by, and many thousands are available to
download, legally, for free.
12. No red ring of death
Well, you only get this on the Xbox, of course, but the last thing you want your gaming
machine to do is to completely konk out. At least when a PC goes wrong, it really goes wrong. Like, with fire and everything (possibly).

What's a good Gaming PC (£500-£600)?

B

OK I'm looking for a decent gaming computer for about £500-£600. I want to be able to play the majority of games on quite good graphics, and it would be cool if i could run things like Crisis on good graphics. Would be good if screen was included, but i know that's asking for quite a lot :D
Would also be nice if someone could basically explain what i need to look for in a gaming PC, 'cos i don't really understand about the components :P.
Now I've heard that it's cheaper to build your own computer, which i would be willing to do, but again, i don't know much about the parts of PC's...
Also, if you know of any good websites that sell Gaming PC's, would appreciate it if you could tell me :)
Thanks

Answer
You could check this website.

The formost thing you need in a Gaming PC is a good graphics card. The GTX 460 will play all games just fine. I think it's helpful to have a quad-core processor and a halfway decent power supply. I would compile a shopping cart to see if it is cheaper to build your own.

here's the 9 parts you need to build just the tower.

-Processor
-Motherboard
-Power Supply (600w minimum for gaming)
-RAM at least 4gb
-Graphics Card (at least a GTX 460)
-CD/DVDRW disk drive
-Hard Drive
-Windows 7

In your case, you probably be better off spending a month educating yourself on how to build a PC. Perhaps in that time you can save up an extra 100 pounds for your build.

Alienware? Yeah, you're paying an extra $500 right off the bat for just the name. Dell bought out Alienware and then people who used to manage Alienware started iBuyPower.

List of Specific Editing/Gaming PC Custom parts for under £700?

Jamie

I'm looking for a good list of specific PC parts i could use and would be compatible for video editing programs and other media based programs, and high performance gaming.
I know you should customize whatever suits your own needs but id like a good list to reference as i look into PC parts. as long as it would be good for high performance Editing and gaming. And at a rough price of hopefully under £700. I'm not experienced in the technical side to PCs in any regard.

Answer
this is probably the best you can get for the £700
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/RZby
you have to add some shipping costs

this build can play every new game on high settings and it's also good for video editing.

Build a gaming pc for under $700. Help?

Chris

I am trying to build an AMD based budget gaming pc. I know quite a bit about hardware, however, I have not built a computer from scratch before. I would like something that can run Starcraft 2, Borderlands 2 and games with a similar demand in high/ultra settings. Intel is not an option. A solid state drive preferable, Radeon HD 7000 series preferable, and quad core is required (Preferably an A-series or Phenom II). I have "mapped out" and priced pc's that are under this total (not sure if everything was compatible, mainly PSU) so I know it can be done.
I certainly love the advice so far. I have minimal experience with Intel (usually because of price, however, a dual core is not enough to handle EVERYTHING I do. Please suggest and Intel/Nvidia build if you think that is better. Ignore what I said above. :)

Answer
Why is Intel not an option... price? Or is it availability in your area?

I mention this because Starcraft 2 is a particularly CPU-intensive game that runs WAY better on Intel processors than AMD. Even older Intel processors like the Core 2 Duo/Quads have a clear advantage over AMD. The 2nd-gen Core i3 smokes a quad-core Phenom II X4 or Bulldozer FX when it comes to running Starcraft 2... The A series is just outmatched.

http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,766589/Starcraft-2-CPU-benchmarks-Intel-on-top-quads-without-performance-benefit/Reviews/
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/amd-fx-8120-6100-4100_6.html#sect0

Adding insult to injury, Starcraft 2 is also optimized for Nvidia cards.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5541/amd-radeon-hd-7750-radeon-hd-7770-ghz-edition-review/18

Borderlands 2 also favors Nvidia cards more than AMD, with the GTX 650 Ti outperforming the Radeon HD 7770 and the GTX 660 edging the 7870.

http://www.techspot.com/review/583-nvidia-geforce-gtx-650-ti/page11.html

So for the game titles you've mentioned so far, AMD isn't ideal. You can still go with AMD and have good performance, but you'll get lower bang/buck than if you spent the same amount on an Intel/Nvidia build.

By the way I don't think an SSD really fits your budget... you''ll be much better off putting that money into a higher-end GPU or CPU. All the SSD does is make your Windows startup and initial launching of games faster, it doesn't affect performance once they're loaded into memory and running.

can I download games off the pc that will work with the wheel, joystick and controls?

paris304

Answer
Hi,

Yes. You can download a game to your PC and play it with a Joystick. This is possible.

Before you purchase a Joystick that will be compatible with the computer, make sure your computer has the connector with it.

If you could not find a connector, clarify while you purchase the joystick and also get the card which has the connector.

Otherwise you can purchase an Joystick with an USB connector.

After this, configure the Joystick from the Start-->Control Panel -->Game Controllers.

Then you'll be able to play the games with the joystick.

For more info, here is a link where you can get an idea before you purchase the joystick:

Joysticks, controllers for PC games?

Wolfithius

I had some PC games a few years ago that required you to use the keyboard to move around and take action. I hate that. I like controllers or joysticks. I hate to be ignorant, but if do most of today's shooter games etc. use controllers or joysticks? I am bying a new computer and considering an upgrade to a computer with high end processor and graphics card.

Answer
You can use the Xbox 360 controller (wired USB) for PC games. Get Pinnacle Game Profiler to add controller support to non-supported games.

Which gaming pc build is better?

Bryan

Out of these two which one is better? and what do you think is the best game they could run?

build 1: http://www.budgetbuildpc.com/diablo-3-build/

build 2: http://www.budgetbuildpc.com/june-2012-300-apu-build/#comment-72

Answer
They are both pretty god awful for gaming. The first one is the better choice. And despite what the person who wrote the article said, It will most certainly *not* run Diablo 3 at high detail level at 60 fps. As you can see here
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/diablo-iii-performance-benchmark,3195-5.html

At the standard 1080 res, the 6670 barely 38 fps. And that's with a 4Ghz Sandy Bridge quad core pushing it. With a slow AMD Tri-core performance will be less. Even on the absolute minimum settings the 6670 won't do 60 fps in Diablo 3
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/diablo-iii-performance-benchmark,3195-4.html

The fist build will run most older games well, (Half Life 2, CSS, TF2, WoW, etc.) But you won't be playing more demanding games like BF3 or Crysis 2, or Max Payne 3 for example. For modern games, SC2 and Skyrim should run decently.

The 2nd build isn't really suitable for gaming at all, it may run some source games acceptably, but that's going to be about it. It won't run Diablo 3 with any grace or dignity.

Neither of these is a "gaming" build IMHO.

Quad core Intel processor, 4GB RAM, High-end graphics cards 1GB?

i already have a monitor and other bits and pieces, just the tower is needed..... some examples and links would be much appreciated thanks

Answer
For building a PC, especially one for gaming, you should shell out a few bucks for "PC Gamer" magazine. Each month in the hardware section in the back of the magazine thereâs a current recommendation for parts to build a system. They give a dream system for those with deep pockets, a medium system that should work for most games, and a budget system for those with limited resources. They also have reviews. The best thing would be to find it at the library where you can look over the back-issues to see the articles and reviews of hardware.

These will give you an idea of what to put in a balanced system.

Remember, too, that if you use a 32 bit operating system, it cannot use more than about 3GB, so no use purchasing 4GB. Get three 1GB sticks. However, if you use a 64 bit operating system, then you can use as much as the motherboard and your budget will allow.

Be sure and use DDR3 memory. It has come down in price and is faster than DDR2.

Consider waiting until Oct. 22nd and purchase a copy of Windows 7 for your operating system when it is released. It will blow away Vista and the outdated XP.

Stick with an i7 or i5 processor, or, at least one that uses the 45nm technology - not the dated 65nm technolgy. A 1GB graphics card may be overkill. It could blow most of your budget. Look for something in 256MB or maybe 512MB.

Q. hi. im interested in buying a laptop for pc games. i dont want a flashy one, because im not willing to shell out 1000 bucks for one. im looking for a laptop that will support the minimum requirements for games like call of duty4, halo, etc.
im looking to spend around 400-500 bucks

Answer
no way....or maybe a used decent gaming laptop would cost more, I would suggest buying parts and build a gaming pc like every month save and buy 1 part cause high end parts are pretty expensive, a good graphics card will cost u $200 to $300 bucks, then the sli enabled quad core motherboards also cost $200... dell xps series notebooks are ok for gaming but they start from £890 dunno maybe thats $1600?

PC Games like WoW or Age Of Conan?

A.T

does anyone know any pc games that i could buy in the shops that are like age of conan or world of warcraft, but is free to play online? thanks

Answer
ABSOLUTELY get Guild Wars, it's incredible and free to play online. You can even buy the collection of all 3 games, plus the expansion game, all of which I can't recommend highly enough. Beautiful, in-depth games. The stories are only average, but then WoW and Conan have particularly lame stories by any standards.

The games are:

Guild Wars (since called Guild Wars: Prophecies)
Guild Wars: Factions
Guild Wars: Nightfall
Guild Wars: Eye of the North.

You need one of the three full games to play Eye of the North. The games don't really have any continuing storyline so you can play them in any order.

If you're having trouble deciding, Prophecies has a traditional fantasy feel like Conan; Factions has an Eastern feel; Prophecies has a Persian/African feel, and some additional gameplay features like heroes (NPC buddies who accompany you). Personally Factions is my favourite, but all are beautiful games.

can this gamer pc run wow without lag?

Q. Asus P5Q Pro Turbo dual 16x PCIe slots Crossfire Ready Motherboard
Q9550 Core2Quad 8mb L2cache OC'd @ 3.4Ghz ( Can go to 4ghz with an aftermarket cooler easy )

XFX Ati Radeon 5850 Gfx Card
650w Diablotek PSU
200GB Seagate Hard drive with windows 7 64bit installed/updated
Light Scribe DVD burner
Custom painted Xion AXP 100 Gaming Series Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Answer
It's good for WOW but it's unbalanced PC overall. Q9550 is really an aging processor, no bad though. DDR2 is really showing age and should be avoided. 5850 video card is very good, for everything. Diablotek power supply is not good at all, it's not reliable and I would not expect it to last very long ( too cheap for 650W). Same for Seagate 200GB - small and seagate fails a lot, better be with WD or Samsung. Xion cases have always been low quality. This computer also is not upgradable. LGA775 socket is dead, same as DDR2, new video cards will not change a thing.
But overall it will run WOW on high settings and above 30FPS.
