What are the tips should I base when I buy Video Card?

Wyllie Yip

Since I have learned the BASIC things in choosing a right processor from my friend that when you buy a processor you should always base the number of cores, theads, cache and the frequency speed.

Question:
Now, what I want to learn is that I wanna know what are the tips in buying Video Card, what are the things should I base before buying Video Card? Because I heard from other people that when I buy a Video Card the Video Memory must be bigger to have a GREAT VIDEO CARD. Now, I have found out this Leaflets from the computer store there is different Video Cards here like GT and GTX and I saw that GTX are more expensive? Why is that? Also, with this let me state an example:
- GF 210 1GB 64BIT DDR3 - 1,200 pesos
- GF 210 1GB 128BIT DDR3- 1,670 pesos.....
... I saw that there is a difference between the two, the BIT, why does 128BIT is more expensive that 64BIT since their VIDEO Memory is just the same? What's the USE of that BIT? Is that one of the tip in buying Video Card?

Another example:
- GT 630 4GB 128BIT DDR3 - 2,775 pesos
- GTX 650 1GB, 128BIT DDR5 - 4,885 pesos...
In this example....I am so doubtful because why is it that GTX 650 1GB is more expensive that GT 630 since GT 630 has more VIDEO MEMORY because it's 4GB than GTX 650 only 1GB? And I see the difference that GTX650 is DDR5, is that the reason because of "DDR5" GTX650 is more expensive than GT 630?

Thank you so much!....your explanation would help...
so that in the near future, when I buy video card...
I already know what is the right Video Card to buy...

Answer
GT (and even GTS) is the low and regular card class, GTX is the extreme card class.

For gaming and HD video editing, a GTX card is a MUST.
For anything else, any GT or GTS card will do fine.

In all modern nVidia cards, the first digit is the series (generation). The latest is the 600 series for desktop cards, they already released a GT730M for laptops.
The next generation of 700 series will be released this year, people say in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2013....
The second digit is the class, and the 3rd digit is generally zero (0), except for some OEM models and OEM for laptops.
A GTX680 will be better than a GTX670 and so on...
Example of OEM cards: GT635M for some Dell and HP laptops, or GTX555 for Dell Alienware X51 small form factor gaming desktop PC.
http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-555-oem

The 1GB, 2GB, etc is the amount of GDDR graphics memory on the card.
The generation does play an important role, like GDDR5 is much faster (better) than GDDR3 or DDR3.
The amount of GDDR memory (1GB, 2GB, etc) does not play an important role in the card performance, except when using multiple monitors.
For gaming on a single monitor, 1GB GDDR5 is more than enough, as almost all games will only use well under 1GB.
In your example, the 1GB GTX650 GDDR5 will be a much better card than the 4GB GT630 DDR3.

The 64bit or 128bit or 256bit, etc is the memory interface bandwidth of the card, and is very important in determining the card performance. The higher the bandwidth, the faster the access to the card memory would be.
Gaming cards have 128bit or higher. For best performance in gaming, a 192bit or higher bandwidth is required.

For gaming and video editing, get at least a GTX650 Ti (better than the non-Ti version), or best a GTX660 Ti.

I'm planning on playing Skyrim, guild wars 2, Cod, battlefield 3, minecraft, and sim city 2013. What graphics level will I be able to run these on?

Answer
I definitely think your computer would run smooth with all the games you listed. I have a computer similar to yours and it's running great! Usually AMD processors are perfect for PC games. By the way, I'd highly get Optifine for Minecraft if you don't want any lag when you play on servers. Go to:http://optifine.net/downloads.php to download the mod. Please follow the steps below to install the mod into your game.

1. Hold your window's button and R at the same time and you should see a Run program.
2. Type in the bar %appdata%
3. Click the file .Minecraft
4. Click the file Bin
5. Left click the Minecraft.jar file and click Share with, then click WINRAR (Go below to download WINRAR)
6. Immediately delete Meta-INF when accessing the game files.
7. Add all the Optifine files the site gave you and insert the files into the Minecraft.jar program.
8. Run Minecraft and start playing with optifine!

**NOTE** Go to: http://www.win-rar.com/download.html?&L=0 to download WINRAR. Also, you must have the game "Minecraft" closed when editing the Minecraft.jar program!

and you can switch between them at any time by holding the option key during startup

To open bootcamp go to the applications folder, utilities and bootcamp assistant

Well im building a low budget gaming pc, with an AMD 3.6 GHz AM3+ FX4100 Processor.

The good ones like Arctic cooling mx-4 or the good ones are really expensive here in India.

So i can just use the one that comes with the hyper 212 evo?

Answer
Yes, the thermal paste that came with it works just fine. When I bought a Hyper 212+, I also bought some Antec thermal paste, but after using both on various CPUs in multiple computers, I could not detect a temperature difference.

What are the parts I need to build a gaming Pc?

best gaming pc at best buy on FIND MORE INFORMATION FOR BEST LAPTOP, COMPUTER,NETBOOK,NOTEBOOK,GAMES
best gaming pc at best buy image
Q. What are the parts I need to build a gaming PC and where can I buy them? And what would be the total cost?

Answer
Well it depends on Ur price range what I have done to make it easier is I go to websites like tigerdirect and newegg and looked at good pard that have "also bought this"

First off you would need:
A case
Harddrive
Ram
Powersupply
Video card
CPU
CPU fan
Motherboard.

Watch out to get the same port for the motherboard and the CPU and fan (some CPUs come with a generic CPU fan)

Make sure the power has same as the monthsrboard if not you can get an adapter for the power supply.

Make sure your motherboard can handle the ram which u should be gettin DDR 3

Make sure the video card can work with the motherboard like pci express 2.0 most already have it.( I'm talking about the motherboard)

As for the rest is mostly plug and play and folow instructions.

I want to buy a gaming pc, what performance will i get with budget of 1000euro ?

Fahe

I am buying a gaming pc and my budget is 1000euro. With this budget will i be able to get a gaming pc good enough to run the latest games (crysis2 battlefield3...) at maximum settings. If not around how much would a gaming pc that will be able to maxout those games without a problem cost ?

Answer
That's almost a perfect price for a gaming pc, more or less. It depends in which country do you live.

I should recommend you an nVidia GTX 680 Lightning built by MSI, that should be launched in 2 or 3 months. With that video card you should play all games on ULTRA settings.

Intel processor is also something that you definitely need.

Minimum of 8 GB ram, better 16 GB.

1000watt good PSU - should do the trick when you'll want SLi. ( two video cards )

A big SSD for storing your games.

This is probably a dumb question, but right now I have a laptop that I use mainly for schooling and some gaming, but I really just want a pc for gaming only. I don't need Internet or any of that extra stuff since I use my laptop for that. I'm wondering if it's better to buy a gaming pc or build one? If I were to build one, my brother would help me build since I'm not good at stuff like that and he is. Price honestly doesn't matter. I work, and my parents have agreed to pay for half of it.

Another question I have (you don't have to answer this one) but what exactly would I need to build one? I'm new to this!

Answer
Build it. It's really not that hard, and I don't mean that in a computer nerd kinda way. There's videos with step-by-step tutorials. Buying a prebuilt one is just dumb, because they always overload it with stupid things like 32GB of RAM, or an i7 CPU, which is unnecessary for the most demanding of gaming needs. Just get an i5, and a GTX 660 Ti, and you'll run all of your games flawlessly for under $1,000.

Is it better to buy a gaming pc or build one?

Answer
If you fly GA (general aviation) 'planes then the CH Products yoke and pedals are the most appropriate.

If you fly fighters then one of the Saitek sticks is more realistic.

If you can buy the magazine "PC Pilot" over in the 'States they often review new items of hardware. If you can't get it easily it's worth you considering a subscription.

I am thinking of buying a gaming pc. I am willing to spend up to around 1000 dollars(or more if necessary) I want it to play games like minecraft or call of duty. I want something so I can play if no lag. Or even record... I dont know much about computers do I don't know what I should be looking for in a computer. If i could get a link to a great one to buy it would be nice. Or even a list of things to look for. Thanks!
Also where should i buy it?

Answer
Processor: Intel Core i5 2500K or AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition.

Hard Drive: 500GB or 1TB

RAM: DDR3 4GB would be sufficient but 8GB wouldn't hurt.

Graphic Card: GTX 560 Ti or the GTX 570 would do.

PSU (Power Supply Unit): 700W or 650W. (PSU is needed to power up the graphic card.)

Gaming Cabinet: Any cabinet would do, but a gaming cabinet has a pretty better built in cooling system. iBall's 'Thunder Bolt' cabinet is pretty sweet.

Mother Board: If your going to get the AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition, then get the ASUS M5A88M. If going for the Intel Core i5 2500K, then get the ASUS P8H 67-MLX.

You'll need a sound card and a pair of speakers.

A UPS.

A Monitor. I recommend Dell monitors.

A mouse and a keyboard.

can somone point me in the directions of a good gaming pc?

could someone please point me in the direction of a fairly good gaming pc looking between 400-600 dollars....perhaps a package deal with mouse keyboard and monitor included, im not looking for anything crazy id like to play games like minecraft in high settings, empire total war in high settings, fallout 3 and warcraft 3 tft...best answer gets a 10!!! thanks in advance oo and should i not look on ebay or amazon or is that a good idea?

Answer
Sounds to me like your looking for a pretty basic computer with gaming capabilities, easy. You should go to your local Best Buy, or any store of the like. Find a sales representative and tell him your needs and price range. If you don't like that option, go to newegg.com or ibuypower.com. Those are two very respectable sites where you can customize your own computer. This will allow you to get the computing power you need, without any extra, saving you money. Good luck!

Megan

Hi, I really want Portal 2, but I hate using our XBox so I want it for PC, unfortunately neither of my parents will allow me to put it on their computers, so I'm looking to buy a quality gaming PC. I need to know how much a good one will cost, as well as what brand I should buy. Any ideas? Plz help!!!

Answer
It really depends on what you plan to do with your gaming PC

Do you want GOOD, GREAT or the BEST?

A GOOD gaming PC should cost about 600$. This is enough to go on mostly high settings at a mainstream resolution. Basically a normal home computer but with a dedicated GFX card.

A GREAT gaming PC should cost about 1000$. This is what you'd get if you want to use a single monitor and play games on their highest settings at a high resolution. You'll either use 1 top-of-the-line card or 2 midrange cards working together, and you'll want a pretty good processor.

The BEST gaming PC should cost above 1500$. This is for people who use multi-monitor displays, 3D effects, or absurdly high resolutions. Prepare to purchase multiple graphics cards, at least 2 high-performance hard drives (for RAID 0), a sound card, and liquid cooling systems.

BUT REMEMBER, THIS IS ONLY FOR THE PC TOWER COST: YOU STILL NEED TO BUY A MONITOR, MOUSE, KEYBOARD, AND OPERATING SYSTEM! I personally spent 350$ on those (200$ monitor, 100$ OS, 20$ keyboard and 30$ mouse) you may also want to buy headphones, so keep those in mind too.

If all you want the PC for is to play Portal 2 and maybe some MMORPGs, then go with Good. if you plan to get into Steam and build your library, go Great. If you have too much money on your hands and want to surround yourself with the best, go...Best.

I want this computer to last me at least 4 years without needing any expensive upgrades. My budget is about 800 but I'd be willing to go up to 1000. Answer
HI, so im not sure what your budget is but if its in the range of about 800-1000 check out this link,
http://www.mycustombuild.com/reckless-conservative.html
Its a really solid computer with all the specs you need ( i suggest getting either Option B or D). You say your not ready to build a pc? this site is for people EXACTLY like you they build custom pc's for gaming and they actually do it very well compared to most.
If you can spend a little more check this one out too.

It also can play BF3 but should be able to play it at around ultra instead of maybe medium-high settings! hope this helped and i hope to see you online!!

What is the highest quality SIM PC Racing game for my system?

Meh

I want to know the highest quality racing game I can run. I don't mean Need for Speed 2012 thoe. I mean a real simulation racing game like the Gran Turismo series, but for the PC.

Anything recent like 2010 or newer? I don't want GTR II since it's REALLY old (came out 2006) as far as simulation goes.

My PC's specs-
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB
Intel i7 920 @2.67GHz
DDR3 8GB @533MHz
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
(That's all the important stuff.)

Would a gaming pc perform better than a normal pc?

finch011ua

If I bought a gaming pc, instead of normal pc, would internet explorer, firefox, adobe photoshop, front page, email applications and pagemaker work better? By work better I mean would they open and close quicker, as well as function quicker.

Answer
yes it does, Gamiing PC Configuration will perform 200% to 500% better than a regular PC configuration...why? cause gaming configuration PC's usually are twice or 3 time faster than regular PC's .....Gaming PC's use a better CPU (up to 6 cores in some cases) and Video Cards (up to 1gb or more) and a high amount of RAM so games can run smooth and without any problems and any frame drops which make other programs like CAD, Word, Webpages, Photoshop , corel programs and even 3D programs run like speed of light.......

Is their a program to make any pc into a gaming pc?

I am thinking of buying an iPad but a couple of questions?

best gaming pc december 2011 on gaming computers features
best gaming pc december 2011 image

Smiling JW

What are the restrictions of accessing content could the iPad cause compared to just using my PC?

Is the iPad no worse or better than other tablet PC brands?

I would rather not have the uugggggh Apple! moan but rather a clear answer.

Answer
I've had my iPad 2 since December of 2011. I absolutely ADORE it. It's seriously like having a lightweight thin laptop without the mouse and keyboard. In fact, I'm answering this question using my iPad right now!

The other answerer is right, you DO have to do everything through Apple, BUT, however, if there's a screw up, they're always there to help and almost always compensate you for any problems you run into.

Since I've had my iPad, I haven't had a single problem. Not with the device, and not with Apple.

Pros:
Everything. (I'm a 21 year old female, I don't ask for much.) It's lightweight, portable, (I have it in my purse with me wherever I go). There are extremely useful apps in there. Also there is iBooks. You can go to JW.org and when you save their PDF Watchtower and Awake! magazines, it'll download directly to your iBooks app. (which is free by the way). Almost every single app I have was free. And there are a ton of useful apps too, not just games. The only apps I paid for (most of which where .99 - 1.99 tops) are homeopathy friendly apps that I use for work or answering questions. Medical stuff basically.

The apps I have are twitter, NWT bible, a whole BUNCH of recipe books, there is even a ''My Time'' app that helps keep track of your pioneering! How cool is that?! I also have yelp, pinterest, Youtube, skype, instagram, amazon shopping, the weather channel, a whole bunch of nutrition and fitness apps, (I'm a buff gym junkie. or trying to be haha). I love everything about this!

Typing and navigating is also extremely easy. I have friends who have blackberry playbooks, and some android run tablets and nooks, etc, and I just find the iPad a lot easier to navigate and use. But that's just me.

Cons:
The battery life is pretty good, but it could be better. It could also be because I have my iPad on the highest setting too, and the fact that I always use it. So, don't take my word for it!

The size. It's pretty big, which isn't a bad thing at all actually. But some people would be more comfortable with the iPad mini, which is exactly the same, but just a tad smaller. (And the screen and retina is actually sharper and brighter on the mini than it is on the iPad 2).

If you have any more questions, general or specific, please ask!

I'm an Apple iFreak.

:D

Is it possible to build a decent gaming computer with a budget of £450?

best gaming pc in india on Gaming Laptops In India
best gaming pc in india image

Joey

I am trying to build a gaming computer for myself (its something I've wanted for a while), but I only have £450 to spend ($700 american). can someone please give me some advice for building a computer that will 1. Run smoothly 2. Have good graphical quality. any help is appreciated.

Answer
Not really, especially since everything is more expensive in the UK due to your high VAT and import taxes.
Even here, in the colonies, it's hard to build a decent gaming PC for $700 USD.
Since all branded (HP, Dell, etc) suck when it comes to gaming specs, building is the only logical option, and cheaper too.

For a decent to excellent gaming PC you would need:

Processor and motherboard:
A second generation, fast Sandy Bridge Intel processor, like at least an Intel Core i3-2130 ($150) or the best gaming processor Intel Core i5-2500K ($225)
An Intel Core i7-2600K would be overkill at $325, save the $100+ for a better graphics card.
Put any of the above processors on a Z68 chipset motherboard, socket LGA1155, with SATA III (6.0Gb/s) and USB 3.0
For AMD processors (not recommended, Intel is always better) only Phenom II x4 965, Phenom II x6 1100T or the newest eight core AMD FX-8120 or 8150 would be good enough for a gaming PC.
For any AMD processor you would need a good AM3+ socket, 990FX or X990 chipset, with SATA III (6.0Gb/s) and USB 3.0 motherboard.

Graphics:
A good dedicated 1GB graphics card, like at least a GeForce GTX 460 Fermi or AMD Radeon HD 5850 or better. Get any card that has a 2300 score or higher form this benchmark list:
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

Memory (RAM)
At least 4GB of DDR3 1333MHz or 1600MHz RAM, 8GB would be best, either one in identical pairs (for 4GB get two x 2GB, for 8GB get two x 4GB).
All new systems have fast dual channel memory mode, only runs with identical, even pairs of RAM installed.

Hard drive (or SSD + hard drive)
A 500GB or bigger Seagate Barracuda or Samsung Spinpoint SATA III (6.0Gb/s) 7200rpm hard drive.
If you also add a 90GB or 120GB fast SSD SATA III (6.0Gb/s), either a Patriot Wildfire (best SSD) or OCZ Agility 3 for your operating system install, you will get much better performance.

Power supply (PSU):
Never cheap out on your PSU, as it is basically the engine that drives your whole computer system.
Get a good quality PSU, 600 watts or bigger, 80 plus certified and from a trusted, reliable brand like Thermaltake, Enermax, Cooler Master, Antech, OCZ or Corsair.
To eliminate cable clutter, and for better air flow in your box, a modular PSU is preffered. It will allow you to only use whatever cables you actually need.

PC Case:
Any case with bottom mount for power supply and enough space to allow for good air flow and proper cooling.

Operating system:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM ($100)
Not sure if they even sell OEM OS in the UK...

EDIT:
@Raghav Jindal
H67 is not a good chipset, really. Z68 is the best, P67 is also good, although older.
And prices in the UK will be significantly higher than India.

Can i say macbook pro with retina is a gaming pc and designed to everything?

I am computer engg. 1st year student and I want to buy best laptop in the world before i go to university
What am i looking fo?:
1)coding
2)web development
3)video(for youtube) and picture editing
4)hardcore gaming(sometimes)
5)compiling and making sofwares
6)slim, beautiful, eye catching
7)watching hd movies

There is only one more laptop which i am considering and thought of buying: razor blade

because i live in India i can't get razor laptop shipped here. Razor doesn't ship outside US and Canada

but my aunt lives in US so i have no prob. in getting it from her.

the only prob. i think razor blade have is? it's just a gaming laptop not a multi purpose laptop. Also, i don't wanna go with Alienware(someone told Alienware is overpriced crap and target kids saying we make THE BEST GAMING LAPTOPS)

I have seen people playing games like skyrim, GTA4, bioshock, crysis3, battlefield3,nfs shift and other graphic intensive games as well. I can't say apple is not a gaming laptop.....but all want to know is will it future games like GTA5 and other running on boot camp. Also, I have heard that mac turns too hot while playing games even dell laptop turns too hot without even playing games.....hahaha but is it NORMAL?

which mac i want to buy:
15 inch MACBOOK PRO with RETINA DISPLAY
2.7GHz quad-core
Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz) with 6MB shared L3 cache

plz don't suggest me anything related to money. Cost is not a factor for me.

Answer
The Razer Blade would be the better choice. Macs are not suited for gaming.

If cost isn't a factor, go on eBay and find an Alienware. Despite what people say, they ARE good computers. You just can't buy them from the company directly, it's costly. You're better off buying Alienware-branded items on eBay. Just make sure you can trust the seller.

Macs won't run Crysis 3, BF3, Skyrim, or any of the games you listed. If you installed bootcamp, MAYBE, but probably not BF3.

I'd go with the Alienware x51 personally. It's not a laptop but a console-sized gaming PC. so you will have the power of a desktop and will be able to upgrade it easily, unlike laptops. And if it has HDMI you could easily plug it into any TV or monitor. Again, do NOT buy it on the Dell/Alienware site. You will find better deals on eBay, I got my Aurora R4 for $1700. Had to do some upgrading and plan to do more in the near future but it was an amazing deal versus the $5000 the official website wanted.

You could try CyberPowerPC as well, but this is also a costly option much like Alienware which is why I didn't go with it.
