Nusferatu

I'm planning to configure a gaming PC and im confused about the specs of gaming PCs,could someone be kind to share tyheir knowledge about computers?
Here are some of my criteria:
-The price first and foremost, preferrably affordable and cheap not neccessarily branded.
-Hard Drive?
-Processor?
-RAM?
-Graphics card?

Answer
Ok so it's a gamer you want......
MOBO: Gigabyte EX38 chipset or newer
CPU: Intel Q9450 or higher
RAM: (here's the debate: if you use a 64bit OS get as much ram as you can. If you use a 32 bit OS your stuck with 4 GB) I used a 64 bit OS Windows 2008 Server x64 and I have 8GB of G-Skill PC2-1000 Ram, Make sure your RAM has a speed equal to or higher than the FSB speed of the CPU it will help decrease the bottlenecking problem for the data speed from the CPU to the RAM
Cooling: I prefer fans over liquid, but it is truly about choice.
Hard Drive: 3 in total 1) 80GB Western Digital SATA II (for OS only)
2) 1.5 TB Western Digital SATA II (Docs, photos,
and anything else you want to put on it.
3) 1.5 TB Western Digital SATA II ( Movies, or
virtual drives for your games)
Graphics card: I am a ATI fan and love the new HD series cards, but make sure it has a minimum of 512 MB of RAM on board and a cooling fan. I have two GPU's on my system and I run 4 monitors.

Now what I just listed if you bought it retail would run you about 3500.00 to 5500.00. Dependent on your location. I built this system last year and I spent just over 1500.00. I can now buy all of this stuff for well under 900.00. USE EBAY!!!! I have since learned how to find great deals on EBAY and love it. But if you don't have the cash don't bid. Make sure you also have a good power supply in your rig, I used an Antech Quatro True Power 850 Watt PSU. It is not cheap but it is worth it to have the power there when you need it.

If you want to build it your self have fun, it is a great and rewarding experience to build your own system, but if you don't want to build it your self, send an email to jdptechnology@yahoo.com, they will build what you want and do it cheap. I know this for fact because they just built a system for a friend and it had a diamond viper Graphics card with 512MB RAM on the card and had a n ECS MOBO with a Q6600 CPU and 4 GB's of ram and memory card reader and a DVD burner for under 400.00. It is a sweet machine.

How much would it cost to build a good gaming pc?

Jim

Im graduating from college and im expecting to get a gift from my mom. I have a really shitty laptop that I have been using for 4 years and I think she is going to give me a mac. Thats what she got my sister when she graduated. However, I dont really want a mac, I would rather build my own gaming pc. But how much would that cost?

Mac's cost about $1,000 so would all the parts fit in that price range?
Woops, I meant desktop not laptop.

Answer
I no longer build PC's for myself. A budget of 1,000 bucks/quid would be good though. Maybe even less. If/when it goes wrong, how much hassle is it? Not all faults are easy to diagnose. How much time do you want to spend on FF or diags? And then taking it all apart again to pull out the bit that needs to go back? Each time you take a machine apart and put it back together you also run the risk of introducing new problem(s).

Me? I am older and better off nowadays, so I am prepared to pay a bit more for covenience.

My goal for 2013 was to build a amazing gaming rig, (I was going to do this in 2012 but couldn't come up with the money)

My Rig I'm, wanting to build is a triple monitor setup (For Eye-Infinity)
I'm wanting to play future games such as battlefield 4, and games now like Crysis 3 and Dead Space 3.
I'm wanting to be able to play these games at ultra settings, that way I never have to worry about lag (Like on consoles which are at low settings). I'm wanting to know what graphics card I would need what kind of CPU I would need ect. And The TOTAL Price, The most I'm wanting to spend is $2000 at the max, I don't want to spend more than that I don't mind but The most I am willing to go to is $2750. I have some parts picked out right now which I have linked below but would like to know what else I will need to have a powerful gaming pc,

(please do try to make it a lower budget (lower the budget, the more games I can get for the PC :P)

Please help me out here guys I'm wanting to build a epic gaming rig for 2013 - 2014!!! thanks!

Answer
Hello, No need for $2750, $2000 is more than enough.

Case : Poor pick, Get cooler master scout2 case, can add 6 120 mm fans, 2 front usb 3 ports, 2 front usb 2 ports.
Monitor : Nice pick.
Optical Drive : Holy shit! xD Amazing one :D do not get it unless if you REALLY need blue ray optical drive.
HDD : Nice pick. even though WD is better than segate.
OS : Good choice! be away from Windows 8 if you want gaming pc.

Take this build, will max anything out there, futureproof for at least 3 years.

How much does it cost to build a decent gaming computer?

Tomato Boy

I'm looking to play League of Legends on max settings but I'll also be using this computer for school work and such. My current computer gets like 20 fps on LoL so I'm looking for a BIG upgrade. Would it be cheaper to buy a power supply and a graphics card and just replace it with the parts in my current computer? Or if I do buy brand new parts I'm looking for quad core processor and an 8GB ram at least. The graphics card doesn't have to be super HIGH end because I just want to use it for LoL. Thanks. Most thorough answer gets 5 stars.
My budget is $700 but I'm looking to save as much money as possible. Already have a gaming keyboard and decent screen.

Answer
You don't need quad core for gaming, almost all games will only use one or two cores. And you won't be able to build around a quad core with $700.
For gaming forget about AMD, THEY SUCK!!! And what they sell for a quad core is in fact a dual core with 4 processing threads, AMD is full of it...
INTEL is the king in gaming.

You can build a decent budget gaming PC for under $750, here it is:

Yahoo answers will only allow up to 10 links, so I have to leave out the not so important components. Just copy paste in the search field on Newegg to find them, I will give the full name but no link for those.

BEST BUDGET GAMING DESKTOP PC BUILD FOR THE MONEY (under $750.00USD for the tower only)
Monitor, keyboard and mouse can add from $175 to over $500, depending on size and model you want.
All prices are in $USD and in the USA, current as of December 2012 and they might be slightly different one way or the other by now.
Also, some shipping charges may apply to some of the items.
Add your state sales tax if you reside in NJ, CA or TN - that's where Newegg has warehouses.
Look for similar parts on Amazon, Tiger Direct, etc if you want to avoid paying Uncle Sam.

FACT: INTEL IS A MUCH BETTER PROCESSOR FOR GAMING THAN ANY AMD.

What do you consider the best game of 2011?

Curt

Name any game you think was the best of 2011. Also, what gaming console do you consider the best and why?

PS3 and Skyrim > the shit

Answer
The best game really depends on the type of person and how u play the game.........
personally i love skyrim because of its deep and immersive gameplay, so many things to do,
this thing alone can kill 200 hours of a person's life.

If u like run and gun games then go for mw3
if u like tactical shooter games, go for bf3
if u like puzzle and interesting games, go for portal 2
PC AND SKYRIM > PS3 AND SKYRIM> the ****
If u dont play skyrim on pc, ur money has gone waste because of tons and tons of user created mods on skyrim and u can only use them if u play skyrim on pc.
if u get bored of the original game , then u can always go out for mods, the developer themselves make the games compatible to mod ya know ?

for the best gaming console i guess if ur hardcore gamer and like lots of competition then go for xbox 360, if ur a casual gamer and like great exclusives go for a ps3 and pc.
Just remember one thing,
Pc games always have an edge over their ps3 and xbox 360 counterparts in terms of fluidity and graphics eg-bf3 .

Hope i helped

What's a good list of computer components for a budget gaming pc?

I need help picking out parts for a desktop gaming computer that won't break the bank. Budget wise, I want to stay under 700 or 800 dollars. I kind of want to run graphically intense games like Skyrim on decent settings. I also want a fast processor to do all of this. If anyone who is an "expert or good" with this kind of stuff I would really appreciate tips about the subject. If possible could i have a list of parts/components to work with and instructions to build... thanks

Answer
This is what I could come up for you. What you could do initially is spend a bit more on the core specs of the system and temporarily use the integrated graphics (which really is not made for gaming) on the CPU then you could upgrade to a better graphics card later (That's what I did). So if you can wait longer to game on it then that would be your best bet.

Also alot of these have mail-in-rebates so you can save money as long as you buy them before they expire, and then there are promo codes but newegg will only allow 1 promo per order. With Windows 7 64-bit OEM it might be a bit over budget initially maybe as much as 20$ after promo minus the rebates if you catch those. If you decide to do this you need to download the PDF's for the rebates before then expire which can be found on the item page. here are the instructions...

#1 Click on where it says "after mail-in rebate card"
#2 Click "print rebate" (you need adobe acrobat reader)
#3 Either print (printer icon) ,and, or save (the floppy disk icon) the pdf file to your documents folder

What are minimum requirements to play most new games on a pc?

AXXOTEKK

I want to get a new computer that is cheap and will play all games. What are some computers at Best Buy that are cheap and will play all games out today. And by cheap I mean under 700$

Answer
Most of the computer packages in Best Buy got good CPU's and RAM's but does not have a dedicated graphic card which is really important when it come to PC gaming.

I'd say a 512 MB graphic card would be able to run most of the latest games @ low~med settings.

Good gaming desktop's are around 850$

Check:

Asus - Essentio Desktop
Intel® Core⢠i5 Processor 3.2 Ghz
6GB Memory
1TB Hard Drive
ATI Radeon HD 5450 graphics 1GB

Can I make a gaming computer for under 500 dollars?

Justin

I would like to build a good computer that can run games smooth for under 500 dollars. I have someone helping me build it so I just need to buy the parts. I was wondering what parts I can buy and how many fps games will run with the parts.

Answer
The fool above me forgot ram, power supply, and operating software, arguably the most important things.

Oh, and bull shit to his 15 years computer building experience. You don't forget about those things, just don't listen to him.

/sigh

For 500 you really can't build anything that would run games. I'm sorry, but you really can't. If you plan on playing games you will need about a 700-900 dollar budget and with that you can get an entry level PC. If you can't afford that I would really suggest just buying a video game console such as the PS3 or Xbox 360.

With 1000 dollars I can build this;

Intel i3-2130 - 140
Intel H67 mobo - 110
8gb 1333mhz ram - 50
Radeon 6870 - 170
Corsair CX500 psu - 60
WD blue 500gb 7200rpm hard drive - 100
Generic DVD drive - 40
Zalman z9 plus case - 70
Windows 7 64bit OEM - 100

So this will be a well working machine capable of maxing alot of games, with an affordable price tag. Total comes to 840, assuming you have peripherals

if you can't use the controller for the game, you can use something like xpadder.com it helps a lot.

Can I use my laptop as a gaming console?

I am planning to buy a DECENT laptop in the upcoming months. I want to connect my laptop to my TV and hook up a PC gamepad. Can I then play games (PC) on the TV using the laptop as a medium, just like I would've done if I bought a Xbox360 or a PS3?

P.S. Assume the laptop is a top notch one.

Answer
Yes you can...

You would probably need a wireless keyboard and mouse and cables to connect (depends on video out of laptop and input of tv)..

Also, always remember that laptops are less powerful than desktops..

So it would be unlikely you could play newer games at high resolutions...

So I want to build a gaming pc with a budget of £350 any suggestions what I should put in it?

Mikolaj

So as I said I'm building a gaming pc with quite a low budget. If you are interested in computers then tell me what I should put in it. I want it too be good up till Christmas because I want to upgrade at Christmas for £1000 but now I am limited to £350 I'm asking for suggestions. I want at least a quad core processor so that I can play games. Also I already have a disk drive so I don't need that and also would like the NZXT phantom case

Answer
£350 won't buy you any kind of gaming machine, at best you'll get a low spec office machine, wait until Xmas.

What graphics card do I need to run these monitors on Ultra settings for Crysis 3?

I'm looking to try to find a graphics card that can power 3 monitors. I am wanting to do something either like Eye infinity or Nvidia surround. I really want to change my gaming experience, because I'm investing in a gaming pc than getting the next gen console. I'd either like to purchase a single graphics card for $350 - $450 I need it to run Crysis 3 on all monitors. If possiable I don't mind buying more than 1 or 2 cards, as long as they're 150$ - $250 I just need it to run Crysis 3 on ultra settings.

Answer
Multiple monitors for Very High with that budget would be impossible. A single GTX 680 pulls 30-ish frames per second on a single monitor and that's a $400 card. You would need two or three.

An HD 7870 might manage high or medium but not very high. No card in that price range can get playable frame rates on Crysis 3 maxed out.

What gaming PC should I ask for this Christmas?

best gaming pc 700 on CHIP Online-PC mit Windows 8: Prima Rechner ab 350 Euro - CHIP Online
best gaming pc 700 image

College

This Christmas I am asking for a new gaming PC so that I can start playing more PC games on my computer again. The thing about my current PC is that I don't think that the new PC games that I want to play on it will run smoothly. Some of the games I plan on playing are Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 (assuming it turns out to be really good when the relaunch of it happens), Diablo 3, might consider getting Skyrim (because the PS3 version is just CRAP), and might try some shooters if I feel like it.

My current computer runs actually pretty good except the graphics card keeps overheating when I play a game. Be it a flash game (like a fb game) or try an online game like Final Fantasy XI.
I also from time to time use an art program called GIMP and just practice doing artwork on the computer. The program takes up a lot of space both for the program and the pictures I make. It also gets a virus from time to time but that's mainly because I only have Norton Security. Wondering if it would be better to just get an Apple computer.

So I what I want to know is this. Should I ask for a new computer? If so, which one that can be found for around $500 to $700.

OR

Should I just get someone to work on my computer and buy new parts for it. I know that often can be cheaper to do and less of a headache to move all my files over. I will post my specs below.

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium (6.0, Build 6002)
System Manufacturer: HP-Pavilion
System Model: FQ550AA-ABA m9426f
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
Memory: 8190MB RAM
Hard Drive Space: 431 GB free of 582 GB

Would really appriciate any informative input on this.

Answer
Umm..why don't you just get a new and decent video card?? And what kind of logic is there in getting an Apple computer for probably double the $$ that isn't good for gaming in most scenarios??

I'd do one of the two:

1. Overclock your Q6600 to around 3 ghz if you can. Buy a decent brand 650 watt PSU and an AMD 7850 Radeon. Probably run you $275 total

2. Sell it and build a Core i5 3570K system

How do I make my NetBook a gaming pc?

Frank

I have an Hp mini. I want to make it a gaming pc, but I don't know what to do besides add more ram. I tried to run Garry's Mod on it. It had loaded into the game but once it started, the weapons and such you use in the game were stretched and sometimes textures would be random colors like pink and light green. Same thing happened when I played Team Fortress 2. I want it to be able to play games nice and fast.

Tell me what I might need.

Answer
A NetBook is SEVERELY limited in all aspects that would make PC gaming possible: Processor, Graphics Card, Ram, cooling, etc.

You really need a different computer to get a gaming pc. There are gaming laptops out there that'll do okay for $600-$700, but you can get the most bang for your buck by building your own desktop pc.

I don't think you can upgrade your NEtBook. Plus, it'll probably void your warranty.

Downloading minecraft on to memory stick so i can play on another computer?

best gaming pc for minecraft image

Not

Ive just brought a custom built gaming pc and want to get the real version of minecraft. I was just wondering if i download minecraft, using my laptop, and put it on a memory stick so i can play on my gaming pc. I dont want to put any card details into my pc but i can put card details on laptop.
+ would multiplayer work?

Answer
Hi, here's the best way to do it where you can still have your worlds from your other computer.

1. Make sure you have internet to get onto minecraft.net
2. Go to minecraft.net, log in, and click download
3. If your computer says are you sure you want to download click yes, there is nothing wrong with the sight
4. Once its downloaded then you go to the start/windows button in the bottom left corner of your screen
5. Click My computer and click on the search tab
6. minimize the screen partially and click and hold the minecraft labeled file onto the computer desktop
7. After all that you should be able to just click that icon and it will pull out the minecraft startup screen in a mini screen where you can maximize it

Hope this helps! :-D
Happy playing!

What is the way forward pc gaming or console?

Reece

I need to decide what to save up for. I have a ps3 and a pc just good enough to play minecraft on all the highest settings. I need to know which is the way forward. I will either get a gaming pc or a ps4 or xbox 720. Please help!

Answer
They both will exist.

PC Gaming for a lot of people is too much of a hassle. They also tend to think it's more expensive (in reality, the money you pay for a TV, a console, peripherals and the games equals or can even exceed the amount of money a great gaming rig would cost to build).

Consoles will always have a place because they are much easier to deal with. You just turn it on and pop in the game. And console gaming is generally more comfortable than PC gaming (not that you can't sit on your couch and play PC games over your TV).

If you enjoy tinkering with things, taking them apart and figuring out what goes where and making sure you're taking the absolute best care of it... PC gaming is fun.

If you just want to be able to turn your console on, pop in a game and sit on your couch and not have to deal with troubleshooting/diagnosing... stick with consoles.

Do you have to use a controller to play games on the PC?

Hey guys, so i bought a gaming PC today and havemt got any games yet. I've downloaded steam and want to get some but i was wondering do you have to use a wired xbox/ps3 controller or is there some way of using a wireless or no controller at all. And also, do you need one for games like, battlefield, tomb raider, fifa 13, farcry, call of duty? Thanks!

Answer
You don't have to use one no. You can if you wish use either a wired or wireless controller (including Xbox 360 and PS3 controllers though wireless adapters would be required). A keyboard and mouse is all you really need though.

A lot of games support a controller despite a poster above claiming only a few do, in fact most new games automatically support the Xbox 360 controller and are designed with the Xbox 360 controller in mind.

Keyboard and Mouse is definitely best when it comes to FPS and RPGs. Other genres are purely a matter of preference though and personally I prefer to use an Xbox 360 controller for some types of games (Driving games and Third Person games such as Assassin's Creed for example)

Is a serial number for Grand Theft Auto IV a one time use only thing?

George the

I got the game for PC today, ordered it used online and I try to enter my serial number but it doesn't let me. Was I ripped off? What do I do?

Answer
Heres how you should do this: 1. Look at the code very very carefully and enter the code verryyyy carefully until you are ABSOLUTELY sure it is a dud, because you may have missed a number or mistook a certain letter for a number or vise versa.

2. Call Rockstar customer support and ask them about it and tell them you want a new game or a full refund (or whatever company you bought the game from)

3. If 1. And 2. Don't work for some reason you can always just buy the disc for the game at gamestop for dirt cheap (because you already have the case and instructions you won't need the game and box.

4. This is the easiest, but don't even think of doin it unless no other options work. You can pirate the game. It is illegal, but entirely ethically right since you bought the game but weren't able to use it. Im not suggesting this, but it is another option.

Hope this helped!

Is it possible to build/buy a good gaming pc under 500$?

best gaming pc under 500 on awaken the elephants - the lighter side- find something to smile about ...
best gaming pc under 500 image

Ulises M

I have aksed this question before and people say that to have a good gaming computer you need like 1000$ but I was thinking how can you buy a ps3 that runs games really smooth and good graphics for 300$ but not a pc under 500$

Answer
It is most certainly possible to build a gaming PC with a budget of $500, but you'd need to have a few things before you get started. Well, one major thing actually: a PC that has a dual-core processor with at least 2.5GHz processing speed. The reason for this CPU speed is that most games will ask for something along the lines of 2.2GHz or higher (games released from 2005-present).

Then all you'd need to do is purchase a new graphics card, a new power supply to make sure the graphics card doesn't die out on your for lack of power, and I'd also recommend you increase the amount of RAM on the PC. RAM will be limited by the motherboard and operating system you have. A 32-bit OS will support up to 4GB while a 64-bit OS can take advantage of more. Be sure that the new RAM sticks you get are of the same frequency as the ones you'll be replacing, you'll save yourself a lot of headaches if you take this precaution.

My recommendation for the new graphics card would be something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150448 or better if you can afford it. To provide the power for this new sucker and the rest of the PC you'll need a new power supply, something along the lines of this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817194085

The RAM upgrade will the most economic of all upgrades, keep in mind that you can choose whatever brand you want but know that Kingston comes really highly recommended. With these upgrades you should be able to run some of the newer games at decent, but not ultra, settings.

Hope it helps.

Where can I get a gaming pc for under £500?

Samuel

Where are the best places to buy cheap gaming pcs? Preferably under £500 but I will go slightly over that.

Answer
At such a low price, you're looking at either upgrading a low-cost starting computer, or getting something used from Ebay.

Keep in mind a decent graphics card costs at least £80... Windows 7 is £70 by itself.

For example, this is pretty good but doesn't include a copy of Windows in the base price:
http://www.aria.co.uk/Systems/Gaming+Range/Cyclone/CYCLONE+Decimator+MKIII+Intel+3.30GHz+Dual+Core+Gaming+PC+?productId=48864

Here's a decent starting unit:
http://www.ebuyer.com/353729-zoostorm-home-media-desktop-7873-0500

And here's a GREAT starting unit:
http://www.ebuyer.com/342320-medion-desktop-pc-pc8276

Add this to either of those computers, and you'd have a nice budget gaming rig:
http://www.ebuyer.com/344116-sapphire-hd-7750-1gb-gddr5-dvi-hdmi-displayport-pci-e-graphics-card-11202-00-20g

Higher-end graphics cards than the Radeon HD 7750 would require upgrading the factory power supply, which increases your cost.

I need some tips to get ready to go to Singapore?

Cheeseasdf

I'm going to singapore, And I need some tips, I'm a kid and I'm in gonna be in 6th grade soon, And I'm going to CIS( CAnadian Internaitonal School) , I need tips on:

Studying
The kids( like are they nice?)
the places and things to do there
Hazards
AND....................................................

You know the things that are made in the U.S,( like videos games) do they get imported into Singapore as soon as they are released?

Answer
Studying: Its a VERY competitive and stressful education system in Singapore. I'm not exaggerating, its true. But if you put in effort and study and attend classes you will not repeat a year of studies like me! lol

The Kids: Ok, Singapore is said to be a multi-racial country where the people live in harmony. Its true to some extend, but there are haters around. So watch out for idiots who might make fun of you. Don't get into unnecessary arguments. 95% of the kids are cool and you will get along fine~

Things to do: There is not alot of things to do in Singapore im afraid. There are parks, a zoo, a place called sentosa(not bad) bird park, shopping malls, lan shops to play games, arcades, movies ect. Whatever you can get in the states is much more i guess. You are too young so you canot enjoy the night life~ No pubs and clubs fer ya~

Hazards: Alot of rules to abide by.. Everything gets you fined and stuff. You will learn as you go..

Games: Yes you can get the games here that are available in the states at the same time. ESP for PC games. Check out Sim Lim Square and Funan Mall to buy original games. Movies we might be abit slower tho. Not as slow as UK tho~

Singapore is hot and wet... Its boring.

How do I make DC Universe run smoothly on my pc?

best gaming notebook pc image

Teh Breeze

I have a Hewlett-Packard(HP) G56 Notebook PC and it has
4.096GB RAM,
Celeron(R) Dual-Core Processor T3500 @2.10GHz, I have windows 7 and the graphics settings are:
Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family and it has 1.695GB Display Memory

I've put all the settings on low but the in-game combat is really choppy and laggy... Please help?

Answer
The integrated graphics can't handle the game. Since it's integrated, that max video RAM of 1.695GB is taken from your 4GB of RAM, so, technically, the more RAM your graphics use, the less overall RAM your computer has.

On top of that, the processor is also on the weak side to be of any help in processor-intensive games and DC Universe needs a dual core processor...

Here's a link to the DC Universe graphics requirements:

Is there anyway I can rig an hp pavilion notebook pc to play Dragon Age: Origins?

Loona

Is there anyway I can rig a "hp pavilion dv6-1247cl entertainment notebook pc" to play Dragon Age: Origins? I was going to by the game, but I want to make sure my computer can handle it at lowest settings. I heard it can't play it, but I was hoping there was a way to fix the laptop up or something.

I'm willing to play the game at the lowest possible settings.

Answer
wekll loooking at specs you might be able to run it on the lowest possible settings but whats killing it is the graphics card. and that is not easy to replace. you could try but its gonna lag like heck. i suggest getting hte demo first and trying that out on it before you go buy the game.

I've been considering on buying, or building a computer for me. I am a big gamer and have had all my games on my Inspiron 14R 4010N and well with new games coming out it is behaving like a piece of crap. So this time I want to go with a desktop, will this run all my games and future ones? My types of games are Modern Warfare 2-3, Black Ops II, Battlefield 3, DayZ. I want to know if it will handle it fine, not looking for crazy insane lifelike quality of my games just something between sweet and eh.

This this is the computer:

Answer
Keep looking. You've landed firmly in "eh." AMD Quad-Core FX-4100 processor 3.60GHz and NVIDIA GeForce GT 610. A very low-end CPU paired with the absolute lowest end dedicated card that Nvidia makes. At least the two are a good match. Neither one is good. If $500 is your budget, you're going to be hard-pressed to get anything above .. eh. You really need to be in the range of $700-800 and even that's probably just above mediocre.

Hi, I really want Portal 2, but I hate using our XBox so I want it for PC, unfortunately neither of my parents will allow me to put it on their computers, so I'm looking to buy a quality gaming PC. I need to know how much a good one will cost, as well as what brand I should buy. Any ideas? Plz help!!!

Answer
It really depends on what you plan to do with your gaming PC

Do you want GOOD, GREAT or the BEST?

A GOOD gaming PC should cost about 600$. This is enough to go on mostly high settings at a mainstream resolution. Basically a normal home computer but with a dedicated GFX card.

A GREAT gaming PC should cost about 1000$. This is what you'd get if you want to use a single monitor and play games on their highest settings at a high resolution. You'll either use 1 top-of-the-line card or 2 midrange cards working together, and you'll want a pretty good processor.

The BEST gaming PC should cost above 1500$. This is for people who use multi-monitor displays, 3D effects, or absurdly high resolutions. Prepare to purchase multiple graphics cards, at least 2 high-performance hard drives (for RAID 0), a sound card, and liquid cooling systems.

BUT REMEMBER, THIS IS ONLY FOR THE PC TOWER COST: YOU STILL NEED TO BUY A MONITOR, MOUSE, KEYBOARD, AND OPERATING SYSTEM! I personally spent 350$ on those (200$ monitor, 100$ OS, 20$ keyboard and 30$ mouse) you may also want to buy headphones, so keep those in mind too.

If all you want the PC for is to play Portal 2 and maybe some MMORPGs, then go with Good. if you plan to get into Steam and build your library, go Great. If you have too much money on your hands and want to surround yourself with the best, go...Best.

Is it possible to build a gaming pc for under a grand?

Rachel

Is it possible to build a gaming pc for under a grand? This computer will be used from graphic design/multimedia (flash video creation, photoshop, etc.) It will also be playing games such as WoW, Portal 2, and maybe even Crysis 2. Any recommendation on how this could be done would be greatly appreciated. If you believe the system I'm looking for will cost over 1,000 please explain why. And thank you!

Answer
Yes, It is, IF you choose the right spec and build it your self. And If by "under a grand" you mean under 1000 $, here's my recommendation :

AMD Phenom II X4 955 3,2 ghz
MoBo Biostar TA890GXB
HDD 1TB WD
RAM DDR3 2x2 GB
XFX HD6850 GPU
PSU CORSAIR pure 600W

In total, it's about 8.2 million rupiahs....roughly US$950, includes the chassis, DVD Drive, logitech Mouse+Keyboard & logitech Speaker. US$1070 with windows 7 home premium. (Excluding the Monitor)

Yeah maybe that price is a bit...high, but you'll be able to play heavy games like crysis 2 on full HD and high settings without lags or something like that.

Also, these I got these price from a local store here in Indonesia. You might be able to find cheaper ones online, or where you live.

I want to upgrade my current gaming computer (CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA880 Desktop) with a new graphics card, and a new power supply. I just want to know what graphics card/power supply to use, and also if there is more to it, then just plunging it into the PC. Do you have to install a software to go along with it?

Answer
Just plug the graphics card into a PCI slot, you will need to download drivers, drivers are free. Power supply needs some screws, which should come with it. Then you just have to hook up the power cords. I would reccommend a GTX 600 series or AMD 7000 series. I prefer Nvidia. For a power supply, I would reccommend a Rosewill Fortress 750 watts. If you want a video tutorial, look up "How to build a gaming pc 2012". It should be by Carey Holesman. I might have miss-spelled the last name.

Answer
The one you build yourself.....
NEVER buy a gaming computer.
