Q. i want to get an asus eee pc. i want to know where the best and cheapest place to get one. i want the 2gb surf. and should i get the one or two gb ram? i want to download some games for it.

Answer
The Asus eee PC is not a gaming notebook. Get 2GB of RAM but avoid the eee PC if you want to play games. The eee PC is a very simple computer.

Is This notebook capable of playing pc games?

Answer
Can it play games, Yes is the answer to that but it depends what games you want to play. Older less graphic demanding games should run O.K but modern games with high end graphics like Bioshock,COD4,Crysis will not run at all. Its all to do with your Graphics chip and Integrated GFX chips on laptops are nowhere near as good as a dedicated GFX card. To read more and see what this laptop is capable of in terms of its GFX chip, check out the link below.

Building my first gaming PC, any advice?

Q. So as the title implies I am building my first "gaming" PC. This was a budget build so it's nothing spectacular. I just wanted to build something low-end, but get the job done as well. I really enjoy computers I have a passion for them, so I thought building one would be an incredible experience.

Here are the specs:

Optical Drive: Sony AD-7280S-0B 24x SATA Internal DVD+/-RW Drive (Black)
MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-H61M-DS2 LGA 1155 Intel H61 Micro ATX Intel MOtherboard
GPU: ASUS HD7750-1GD5-V2 AMD Radeon HD 7750
Tower/Case: Cooler Master Elite 430
CPU: Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor G850
Keyboard: Razer Arctosa Gaming Keyboard
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
PSU: Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 500w
RAM: Corsair XMS3 4GB
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB

I have been studying up on PC building for the past 2 months, so I know the gist of how to build one. However their are multiple ways to go about the process of building everything. If you could using the parts that I listed give me any tips on building my PC? One thing I'm worried about is having parts be DOA, and that the tower will be too small.

As for your build, not at all good for even a budget gaming PC.
That motherboard is old junk. It has the oldest H61 chipset, very low end.
Also Pentium G850 is a low end processor, not good for gaming.
Graphics card is also low end. Get HD 7770 or 7850. Or get GTX650 Ti.

Instead get:
CPU: Intel Core i3-3220, $120:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116775
That is of the latest 3rd generation Intel Core Ivy Bridge, the best budget gaming processor.
Motherboard: Any newer model with a Z77 chipset, like this ASRock, for $90:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157297

Never install just a single RAM stick, always install an identical pair for fast, dual channel memory.
For gaming, best to get 8GB of RAM, in a dual kit (two x 4GB), and get G.Skill Ripjaws X Series or Corsair Vengeance - price $45 to $48
Or, if you only want the minimal 4GB, also get a dual kit (two x 2GB), about $25 or less.

I bought these parts with the thought that it could play MOST new games out there on 1080p on medium settings, as well as games that are a year or two old on high settings 1080p.
Alienware is overpriced as hell for what they offer you, A pretty look outside, yet the specs are awful. I am also building this because it saves money.

Should i buy new games for my ps3 or for the pc?

JoshyTheBo

My computer is a monster that can handle any games (such as crysis) on max setting with no lag. I just got the computer a month ago and before that i was a hardcore ps3 gamer. Would you guys suggest buying games for the pc or the ps3 now? I was thinking about games like dead space 2 or bulletstorm or even Elder Scrolls V when it comes out.
What would you suggest?

Answer
pc games are about $10 cheaper.

to play online for ps3, bluetooth headsets range from $40 to $150

to voice chat on pc it takes any sort of microphone

for most games, you need to take into consideration whether you like the controller or the mouse and keyboard.

ps3 games can be traded in when you dont want them anymore. pc games are yours forever.

ps3 games dont require you to input any of that stupid cd key stuff.

ps3 games have trophies. pc games usually have their own in game scoring but they dont have things like trophies

ps3 games can be bought used for cheaper. pc games cant be bought used anymore unless you buy used online and sometimes their cd key has already been used

it is easier to video capture stuff on pc to put on youtube. ps3 requires you to have a capture card.

pc games tend to have a larger online forum community

ps3 games dont require installation

pc games have less load time since they are installed

pc games can be a little bit difficult to play online if you have to open and close ports and configure all that stuff

ps3 games can be played by laying down on the couch. pc games must be played sitting at the computer.

pc games tend to have more hackers who mess up the game for everyone. they do get caught and banned, but still, it sucks for us who want to play legit.

some pc games can be modded which makes them more fun. i have command and conquer generals and i play the mods on that all the time. games like half life 2 have a great modding community and a lot of developers welcome modders because they get more people to buy their game.

it also depends on what type of monitor you have. if you have a big honker tv then i would go with ps3. if you have a kick ass 1080p monitor then i would go with pc. if you have both then you are a spoiled kid who needs to give me some of your stuff :P

it used to be that pc games were always better than console games but that isnt the case with the ps3. the ps3 can run just about any graphics that a pc can run.

How does voice chat work for pc games?

Q. Multiplayer of course

Answer
The same way it does for console games. You just need a microphone and a game that supports voice chat built in. VOIP software has been around for a while now. Usually you have a key or something to press to toggle it.

Without built-in voice chat, most people use VOIP software like Skype, Ventrilo, or Teamspeak to chat.

help me build a micro atx gaming pc under $600?

Q. i know a little about building gaming pcs , but its never as cheap for me as people say it is . maybe i always get greedy , but my builds always end up costing more like $800 & upwards . i want to be able to run modern games on high settings (not ultra) at 1080p . i want it to be air cooled , and it must be micro atx, i like the small case size and dont want a huge tower case. i have a windows 7 installation disk and there are sites that sell windows keys for like $30 so for windows just factor in $30 . thanks and have fun !

Answer
I was in the same boat as you a while ago, and everyone always talks about how cheap it is to build a PC.. but the truth is that prices have gone up with parts in the past few years and it's probably around the same price as any other computer you would buy. The second thing is that generally the smaller you want your computer, the more it's going to cost your for the same technology. You can't fit those bulky "gaming" cards in a micro atx case, same goes for proper heatsinks and power supplies. I'm not saying it can't be done, because it can, but it's just harder to find cheaper parts that fit in a micro atx case. BTW, don't get a windows key from some jenky-ass site, just download RemoveWAT and activate Windows once you install it (it doesn't require that you enter a key when installing it). I gave it a try and the link to the shopping cart is below.. I'm not sure if you will be able to see it though.

A decent pre-built gaming pc under 600?

Q. I am looking for a decent/average desktop for gaming. Not looking to be able to run newer games or max settings or even full 60 fps.

Games I want to play:
Minecraft
Skyrim
Everquest 2
Runescape

And other various games like that.

I am fine with low fps and playing on lowest graphics settings.
I DO NOT WANT TO BUILD A PC, so please stop saying to build one.

Prefer something available on walmart or amazon.

I want to spend a maximum of 600$ including shipping fees and a monitor (which I can buy for next to nothing.)

Please help me out here.
Oh and I prefer windows 7, windows 8 is a bit of a joke and nearly as bad an OS as vista was.

Q. Looking for a good gaming pc for under $1500. Suggestions?
Hopefully able to run games like Arma 2 or BF3 decently well. I was looking at an Alienware X51 but one of my friends claims that Alienware is terrible since Dell bought them.

Answer
It is indeed best to build it yourself for it will be a bit cheaper, well-balanced and designed according to your preference, intended use and budget.

Here you go:

CPU:Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 BX80637I53570K - $230

MOTHERBOARD: ASUS P8Z77-V LK LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS - $150 ($130 after rebate)

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL - $44

KEYBOARD: Rosewill Gaming Keyboard RK-8100 (RIKB-11003) - $23

MOUSE: RAZER Abyssus Mirror Special Edition Black 3 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB Wired 3500 dpi Mouse - $30

Logitech S-220 17 Watts 2.1 Multimedia Speaker System - OEM - $27

MONITOR: Acer S220HQLAbd Black 21.5" 5ms LED Backlight Widescreen LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 ACM 100,000,000:1 (1000:1) - $120 (1080p)

OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM - $100

TOTAL : $1404 ($1354 after rebate), this is a great complete build that can let you play all games on max settings with great FPS on a 1080p monitor. It has a 21.5 inches 1080p monitor, SLI ready PSU and motherboard and a gaming keyboard and a nice budget RAZER mouse and nice logitech speakers.

BTW, you could still add an SSD so that your booting time would be shorter and loading of games faster (you install your OS and the game you are currently playing on the SSD), like this one:

OCZ Agility 3 AGT3-25SAT3-120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - $90 ($80 after rebate), but of course as I always say, SSD's are nice to have but not entirely necessary.

What is the best gaming PC on the market for under $1500?

Logan A.

I'd prefer one that doesn't come with a lot of useless crap.

Answer
Try Carbonfrost Systems Defender Mark I. It comes to about $1400 and you get a pretty good gaming computer for that amount. I am listing the specs below as well as the website address.

http://www.carbonfrost.com/products/defender/

500 Gigabyte Hard Drive
2 GB RAM
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Dual Core
2.3 GHz Processor
DVD±R Burner 18X
ASUS AMD Motherboard
GeForce 7900GS 512MB Overclock Edition Video Card
M-Audio HD Sound Card
Windows Vista Home Basic
Starter Package

This configuration should be more than enough to play alot of the games and you can even go higher on their website. It also comes with 2 year warranty and they removed all unnecessary software (bloatware) from my PC before shipping so it was fast and I got one of the best deals for the price.

Plus they overclock your gaming pc and still keep it under warranty so you are gettting a even better pc than what I listed above. Good luck in your search

Help with steam/PC gaming?

Q. I'm pretty new with PC gaming and I have a few games on steam. I've downloaded Team fortress two, combat arms, Tribes Ascend and planet side two. I haven't bought any games because some of the free games are a bit laggy and I have a few questions about that. I know it's not my computer, I have a brand new HP with an updated graphics card, 6gb of ram and a 1tb hard drive running windows seven. My computer should be able to handle these games no problem. So I guess my true question is why are these games laggy, is it my internet? I have a decent internet package but my router is just one I bought at the goodwill, it's a linksys (don't know what type it just says cisco on it). Could it be the games? Team fortress run ok, a little laggy when there are tons of people on but overall pretty smooth. Combat arms runs beautifully. I've been playing that the most because it runs perfectly. Planet side two and tribes ascend are laggy but I can kind of deal. Like it's not to the point where the game ever stops or I loose a connection to the server but it is a little choppy even with the graphics all on low hopeing it would run faster. Is it just the game? Like would paid games run better? or is it simply my internet connection. Also if you have any games you suggest on either steam or just buy else where that would be awesome. Thanks in advance for any useful info. If you need more info to help answer my questions just let me know.
Ok. I did what you told me, it says the following about my graphics card.
Name: NIVIDIA GeFroce 9100
DAC type: integrated RAMDAC Total memory: 2927mb Current display settings: 1600x900 (32bit) (60Hz)

Processor info: Model: a4316f Processor: AMD Athlon (tm) X4 620 processor 2.60 GHz
6.00 gb (5.75 usable) of installed mmory (RAM)
64-bit operating system.

My CPU is connected with an Ethernet cable but it runs through the wifi router first (forgot about that) and how would I update the driver?
Thanks for the information so far

Answer
Good choice with Steam and PC gaming

First of all you should be giving more details of your PC. RAM and Memory has no or less effect on gaming performance. You need to have the latest or at least new version of graphic cards and also you ned to see which processor you got and what the processor speed is. Those 2 effect your gaming performance more than anything. Then internet as well because you need more than a average internet speed if you want to play online FPS or any games without lag.

This is how you check your graphic card
1.Click Start.
2.On the Start menu, click Run.
3.In the Open box, type "dxdiag" (without the quotation marks), and then click OK.
4.The DirectX Diagnostic Tool opens. Click the Display tab.
5.On the Display tab, information about your graphics card is shown in the Device section. You can see the name of your card, as well as how much video memory it has.

This is how you check your PC configuration or processor speed and such
1.Right click on "MY Computer"
2.Select "Properties"
3. It will display a box with all the info including processor speed/RAM and so on.

As for the internet i suggest you try hooking your internet directly using a ethernet cable. Use the cable to connect your modem to your CPU and then the CPU will have much faster internet speed than what you would have with a wireless connection.

A PC also lags when the CPU starts heating up. Online or high end graphic games heat up your PC a lot and it slows down the CPU speed.

But in short here are things you should be checking
Processor speed
Graphic card
I dont think its these 2 because its a enw PC and the games you mentioned arent really that demanding.. so maybe the drivers arent updated? Try updating your windows and all drivers. Also dont run a lot of stuff in the background when playing. Its definately not Steam's fault because it has nothing to do with your PC.
Internet connection - whether you have problems or not i HIGHLY suggest to you that you connect your internet directly with a ethernet cable. TRUST me it runs so fast... and no lag what so ever during gaming. Thats what i do for my PC.

As for What games to buy on Steam there are a tons of free games you can always download. Also if there are certains games that you like but dont have the money to buy them wait till summer or winter or christmas or some kinda holiday sales ebcause steam sells games at ridiculously Low prices. You just have to know when and what to buy. NEw games will still cost high at the start but give it a few months or some deal and you ll get really amazing discounts.
Cheers

AMD FX-6100 Processor

8GB DDR3-1333

500GB 7200RPM Hard Disk Drive

ATI Radeon HD 6870 1GB Video Card with 800W

Answer
AMD FX 6100 is a watt sucking waste of time and money that will bottle neck high end GPUs, you would be much better off with a Intel Sandy Bridge 2500k or higher. Dump the GPU, and wait for the Kepler powered GTX660.

Performance Analysis

With the addition of numbers for the Intel Core i3-2100 and Core i5-2400 in some of our benchmarks, it's plain to see that even with a price cut, the FX-8120 struggles in most of our tests. In very multi-threaded tests such as Cinebench and WPrime, it just about manages to hold its own against the similarly-priced Intel Core i5-2400 - slightly ahead in WPrime, a little behind in Cinebench and noticeably faster than the cheaper Core i3-2100. The Core i5-3570K is much faster in both tests, but then it costs around £30 more.

Our image editing test was a real let down with the FX-8120. It came bottom of the graph, being trounced by a staggering 500 points by the Core i3-2100 - a CPU that costs just £90. Even the ageing AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition was considerably faster while the similarly priced Intel Core i5-2400 was nearly twice as fast. Clearly, if you do any amount of photo editing, the AMD FX-8120 represents particularly poor value.

With eight cores at its disposal, you'd think the FX-8120 might stand a good chance in our video encoding test. Sadly this wasn't to be and its score of 2,150 was over 400 points short of the Core i5-2400. Thankfully for the FX-8120, the Core i3-2100 was noticeably slower, with its two physical and two virtual cores not able to keep up.

Everything started to fall away from the FX-8120 again in our multi-tasking test, where it was yet again at the bottom of the pile, coming 100 points short of the much cheaper Core i3-2100, while the Core i5-2400 was nearly 50% faster - pretty damning result. Overall, it was no surprise to see the FX-8120 rock bottom, bettered by the Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition and Core i3-2100 and trounced by the Core i5-2400.

Our game test lacks data for the two Sandy Bridge CPUs as we tested these some time ago, however, with the Intel Core i5-3570K retailing for just £30-40 more, it's clear from our results that the FX-8120 isn't a great buy for games either. The Intel CPU was 60 per cent faster in Arma II while costing around 30 per cent more - not a bad rate of return if you can afford the extra layout.

Conclusion,

Sadly, its more of the same bad news for AMD or anyone with a Socket AM3+ motherboard looking for a decent CPU for around the £150 mark. The FX-8120 just isn't a good choice when it comes to the kind of applications we run on our PCs. It's regularly outpaced by far cheaper Intel dual-core CPUs, while the similarly-priced Intel Core i5-2400 is significantly faster in many of our tests. It's not all bad news for AMD - before we get accused of being biased towards Intel, we have no qualms recommending the A8-3870K for those looking to build a budget gaming PC, while we also recommend many of its graphics cards.

As it stands, the FX-8120 will have to be a lot cheaper for it to be worth considering over an equivalently-priced Intel setup, while owners of the Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition can rest assured that there aren't any worthwhile upgrades yet.

What is a good gaming desktop for under $800?

Q. I want a nice desktop. I have a mouse, monitor, and keyboard. I would like a pre-built PC. I would also like it to be able to run Skyrim and all CoD games. If not it needs to at least be able to run Minecraft and GTA IV smoothly.

I do not want to make my own!!!!!!!!!!

Answer
Well okay friend, since you wanted a prebuilt PC then here you go:

CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme 1321 (GX1321) Desktop PC Intel Core i5 2500K(3.30GHz) 8GB DDR3 1TB HDD Capacity AMD Radeon HD 6670 1GB Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit - $750

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229284

The reason why I recommended this build is because it has an I5-2500k (perfect for gaming), 8 gb RAM, 1 TB HDD and the HD6670 is still a good card, it can let you play all games on mid settings and also later on since the PSU that comes with this build is 600w, you could upgrade your GPU into a more powerful one like an HD6870 or even a gtx 560 ti.

BTW, you could run GTA4 with this build smoothly on high settings since its system requirement is not that high.

Great gaming desktop under $800?

Q. Maybe a litte over if needed only around 50. Needs to play games on high or ultra.

Answer
I have used these parts to answer a recent question / request for a BUDGET GAMING PC, so I figured you may want to look at it also:

Intel Core i3-2120 Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz LGA 1155 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2000 BX80623I32120 - $125

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL - $46

EVGA SuperClocked 01G-P3-1463-KR GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - $160 ($130 after rebate)

RAIDMAX Super Hurricane ATX-248NWU Black / Blue Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - $45 ($30 after rebate)

LITE-ON 24X DVD Writer Internal 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM Model IHAS324 - $22

inland 70126 Black 107 Normal Keys USB Wired Standard Keyboard / Mouse Combo - $16

inland Home/Office Series 88034 7.2 Watts 2.0 Speaker - $10

Acer G205HVbd Black 20" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor 200 cd/m2 ACM 5,000:1 (700:1) - $100 (1600 x 900 resolution) -$100

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM - $100

TOTAL: $859 ($789 after rebate), with this build, you could play ALL GAMES on max settings since the monitor has a resolution of 1600 x 900. I have given you a bigger and good branded 600W PSU because you might want to upgrade your GPU later to a more powerful one,the 600W can support up to a GTX 570 and even a GTX 670 =P

It has an H77 mobo of which it has nice features (sata 6 gb / s (for SSD), usb 3.0) and you can always upgrade your cpu to an IVY BRIDGE I5-3450 or I5-3470.

All in all, this build is very ideal for gaming, upgradeable and can let you play all games on max settings with decent FPS.

PC Games for a YouTube channel?

Q. So I have a few friends and we wanted to do something different for our channel. We decided to make a scripted TV show series but in the form of 10 minute Youtube videos each week. because we don't want to be on camera, we need to use a game to act out the episodes in. Does anyone know any good multiplayer open world games for PC that could be used for this? Prefer if they are on steam. Thanks!

Answer
I've seen that done using Guild Wars but you could use just about anything from Diablo 3 to Skyrim.

How to start a gaming channel on YouTube?

Q. I really want to start my own gaming channel on YouTube, but I don't know how to set it up so in the videos you can see both me AND the game I'm playing. Like, if you go on YouTube and you watch PewDiePie or Markiplier, they have their's set so their face is in the corner of the screen and the rest of the screen is the game they're playing. I don't know crap about technology so I'm gonna need a lot of help with this. Thanks!(:

Answer
Ok, first create a new channel on YouTube. Make the name easy to remember and catchy not something with numbers at the end. Second use playclaw to record PC gameplay for console i think you have to buy something to record. To get the person viewer thing set up a camera or webcam facing you ( make it as a separate video). Use google to learn how to video edit those together. You may need to buy an editing program. If you go to Fry's electronic store website they usually have rebates and if you own a rival program you can send a copy of that program and get Vegas or Movie Studio for free. If you can't wait just buy one, any will really do.

What gaming laptop should I get next 2013?

Q. Right now I have a lenovo y580. It has an i7, gtx 660m, 8gb of ram, 1tb hard drive. I have had this laptop for about a year and a half and at about every two years I buy a new computer. My computer right now is great but it is getting a little old. I use it for gaming and school purposes. What laptop should I get next? My "requirements" are that it has at least a gtx 760m and an i5. My price range is from 1000 to about 1750. Thanks so much.

Answer
Laptops are not for gaming. I'd keep the one I have for school and build my own PC.

what are a list of PC laptops that will run the new Sim City 2013?

Q. I need to know which laptops have the specs for Sim City 2013
I know the sim city specs. im just have trouble finding laptops that meet the specs

Answer
Most of the toshiba P and L series laptops will have the integrated intel gaphics card that can run the new simcity. it depends on what type of laptop you are wanting within your price range. a desktop replacement, a portable ultrabook, or a portable gaming rig. but regardless i will list websites of laptops:

http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/ebtext.to?page=satellite
http://www.dell.com/us/p/laptops?~ck=mn#
http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/laptops
http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/group/notebooks

these are mostly consumer laptops that arent super hardware heavy, but if you want laptops that are dedicated to gaming then here you are:

http://www.maingear.com/custom/computers/custom-built-laptops.php
http://www.xoticpc.com/custom-gaming-laptops-notebooks-gaming-laptops-ct-118_96_98.html
http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=products
http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/category/notebook/

there are plenty of others, but as the specs to play sim city arent that high as most computers can play it just as long as the graphics card has at least 512MB and support the DirectX version and shader model.

As it stands, the FX-8120 will have to be a lot cheaper for it to be worth considering over an equivalently-priced Intel setup, while owners of the Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition can rest assured that there aren't any worthwhile upgrades yet.

whats a powerful gaming desktop 2012?

Q. i want to get my nephew a powerful desktop computer which means a strong powersupply that won't burn out, fast graphics card and newest most powerful graphics engine, good amount of ram that supports hundreds of 3d units on screen without lag, at least a 4ghz processor speed, i would say a 1tb harddrive or maybe larger, how much do you think i could get one with top notch technology for? im guessing it could even cost a few thousand but i want an answer from an experienced gamer, and also i need to know what good compatible motherboard will fit with the excellent graphics card

Answer
You can get a top-flight gaming system for about $1700-$2000. While spending $2500-$3000 would yield an even higher-end rig, your performance would only be moderately better. Expense rises much faster than performance does above $2000.

Did you say "at least 4Ghz"? There are no processors with a clock speed of 4Ghz unless you overclock them to that point. But Ghz isn't a direct measure of performance anyway. The 3.7Ghz Phenom II X4 980 and 3.6Ghz FX-4100 are much slower in games than a 3.3Ghz Core i5 2500K. And for gaming, the Core i5 2500K or 2550K are better choice than a Core i7 2600K, because there's almost no difference in gaming performance but the Core i5 costs $100 less, which is money you can spend on a higher-end graphics card instead.

If you've got money to spare, then get a Core i7 2700K but there are rapidly diminishing returns beyond the Core i5 2500K level. Since gaming performance is determined 70% by your graphics card, it's counterproductive to spend an extra $200 for a CPU that's only 5-10% faster rather than a graphics card that's 50-75% faster.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/the-sandy-bridge-review-intel-core-i7-2600k-i5-2500k-core-i3-2100-tested/20

8GB of RAM is plenty for any gaming build (no games require more than 4GB anyway). Spending more money for 16GB doesn't improve gaming performance at all, it just raises the price.

While Nvidia's new cards are expected to start shipping within the next few months, AMD's new generation cards are already available. I'd recommend building a system with a Core i5 2500K and Radeon HD 7970 (the newest high-end GPU, although not more powerful than the older GTX 590 and Radeon HD 6990). Anything of the GTX 580 level or higher is considered top notch, it just a matter of your budget.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5476/amd-radeon-7950-review/12

When you're into that really expensive category of hardware, dual cards like a pair of 7950s are better than a single GTX 590 or Radeon 6990 anyway.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-590-dual-gf110-radeon-hd-6990,2898-19.html

I recommend a Sandy Bridge system (Core i5 2550K or Core i7 2700K) along with a Z68 motherboard, the X79 platform is just overpriced.

Don't waste time with AMD's FX-8120 or 8150 processors. Those have weaker gaming performance than any of Intel's current Core i5 or i7 processors. Even the Core i3 2120 beats all of AMD's processors in most games.

Pre-made Gaming Desktop 2012?

Q. Because I don't want to go through building my own Desktop (although I really should, because everyone says it's cheaper and not at all hard to do), I want to consider buying an actual pre-made gaming desktop to replace my crappy gaming laptop that was gifted to me years ago. I'm looking for something relatively cheap, although any good suggestions will do. As for how "good" of a GPU I'm looking for, I just want something that'll let me play TERA at maximum graphics while recording/streaming, no fps problems. That's mostly the extent of what I'll be using this new desktop for.

If premade Gaming desktops are too expensive and totally not a good option, I'd also accept good suggestions for complete and detailed tutorials on how to build a desktop and suggested parts.

Answer
Not sure what TERA is. I'm a hardware guy and relate games to tables.
This is probably what you want:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227408
The FX-8120 is not a great gaming CPU:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html
But, I would think the recording and post production editing would benefit from the FX-8120.
The graphics card is a nice HD 6850 and a price that does not break the bank.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php
Estimate by looking at both of above two.
You can look for youtube videos called build a pc
To get the parts:
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/iUUQ
An econo-build that maximizes graphics and upgradability.
As you can see, the number of parts is quite limited and basically you put them in the case in the right places with some bolts and screws and wings in tool-less cases and cable the parts together and load windows and update like any PC.
Ask opinions about the part set. If young teenagers can build a PC, it's not rocket science.
It's mostly about optimizing money and deciding about future upgradability.
They run out of the best ones fast:

Best Gaming PC for £700?

Q. I just was wondering what is the best spec'd gaming pc I'd get for £700. Suggestions thoughts?

Answer
$1125=700 British pounds, so go to Cyberpower and choose a pc to configurate [click on 'configurator'] click on one that is $800 to $900 and add a good video card in the 150 to 200 dollar range. Make sure the os is Windows7. Then find one similar to it in the UK. I'm in the USA so I don't know many British websites. Pricewatch UK is one.

Looking to build a decent gaming PC for about £700 - can it be done?

Adam

and if so, can you suggest the hardware I will want to include?

Thanks.
I guess by decent I mean the fastest and most high quality available for the money

Answer
For 700 pounds you can get a very decent gaming computer, here is what I recommend.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 $269.99
Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R $149.99
Mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2-800 $79.99
Radeon HD 4870 $309.99
Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB $94.99
Samsung SH-S203N $29.99
Asus Xonar DX $94.99
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 $149.99
Antec P182 $149.99
Total Buy this complete system at Newegg. $1329.91

This is in USD but is under 700 pounds.

It is a perfect build the only thing left is the monitor, operating system, keyboard, mouse, but you should at least have everything except the operating system from your last computer, you can buy Windows Vista 64 Bit usuing the rest of your money.

What is the best cheap gaming laptop for crysis 3?

Q. I want to buy a cheap gaming laptop under 400-500 us.so please give me some gaming laptop model.oh i want to play crysis 3 in medium or low settings.

Answer
Crysis 3 and other games will be played with no disruption in a laptop which has good processor and good memory which means it should have good memory. So by considering both of them Dell Inspiron 15 i15RV is one option for which you can go for and also it is of less than $500. It has technical features which include 3rd Generation Intel Core i5-3337U Processor (3M Cache, up to 2.7 GHz) which is really efficient. It has 4 GB DDR3 and 500 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive of storage. It has 15.6-Inch Screen and Windows 8. Lastly it has 6-cell battery which means you are going to have battery life of almost 3.30 hours.

Comment from an actual user can be really helpful in this regard because it will explain that how it actually performs. Here is a comment from an actual user:

Besides that there are other options as well from which you can decide as well. Here is a list which are popular and best selling:

What is the the difference between computer types?

animal_121

Hi everyone! I am about to buy a new desktop pc but are unsure about the different types. I would like one that could run most pc games well (i.e. sims 2 etc!) please could you specify types of computers that will do this (preferably under £400.00). And the graphics of different pc's.
Thanks!

Answer
Every PC is different.
For gaming... I would recommend an AMD processor.
If you get an Intel... STAY AWAY FROM CELERON. You will like the pricetag, but hate the performance.
At least 1GB of ram... (you need more, but you are trying to stay under 400)
Any decent Nvidia or Ati card will do you well. You need to spend more on this too, but it is a budget killer.

Then get as big as a hard drive as your budget will allow.
