I am looking to get a decent gaming pc nothing super. I have read so many conflicting things on different companies. Should I go alienware, ibuypower, or cyberpower. I am kinda computer illiterate so building my own is not an option. Any suggestions

Answer
Cyberpower builds are the best that you can find that are not way overpriced compared to other brands . So Just go to newegg and look into their cyberpower PC's that are currently on sale =P

Ok,so,I know I asked this question once already, but the answers werent very reliable, one person said it most probably wouldnt, one person it looked like a 2013 realese for the 3DS,and I find a gameplay video? Please explain...will it come out...or not...and if it will come out, when?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daXlFKkKpTo
If it wont come out how do you explain the short gameplay video?!

Answer
from the comments:
I actually is real, but it is homebrew, meaning it can only be played on flashcards such as the R4 and Acekard and DSTT and others. To anyone who wants this game and has a flashcard, you can download it from GBAtemp in the homebrew - games of the downloads section.

maybe its only fan made, the character there looks a lot like kaguya than reimu... even the hair doesn't match her PC-98 and the clothes doesn't look like from any windows era games.

also IIRC ZUN said something about his game being only available in certain consoles... dunno if DS was one of them

ah here it is:

A new Tomb Raider game? To all my fellow Tomb Raider Players?

su

Hello,
I have been playing Tomb Raider ever since I was 9-10 years old. I am 17 now.

I absolutely love the thrillin nature of gameplay it allows the user to experience

I played the First OG Tomb Raider on the PC. Although it's Graphics were terrible, the gameplay was amazing.

The 1-5 series were amazing too.

Then I played Angel of Darkness, the game has provenly suggested an increase in heart rate while gameplay. The thrill, the spike of excitement to what lies behind the wall or door is outstanding.

Then I played anniversary, good graphics and a remake of the original game.

Then came the exceptional Game of Tomb Raider: The Legend. Ah! Remarkable! Every word of praise is an understatement. The cache of the unbeatable sword of doom, the sporadically occurring mystical creatures (almost impossible to beat the monstrous creature in the temple !), the amazing representations of the countries (loved Japan!), Lara's excellent apearance full of élan and oomph at the same time (best character creation among all games) and thats only few of the many things it has to offer! A game I will love forever. Among the best for sure!

Then I came across Tomb Raider: Underworld. This game has incredible graphics but the gameplay is saddening. The story line lacks the usual thrilland the process is too convulated. As the legend has easy controls, amazing story line and was comprehensible this one is completely opposite! Banal! It took me forever to get the enormous octopus looking creature to move. A very depressing game and very short of its time of gameplay.

Now I will, to know what new game has finally come to our existence? Another Tomb Raider game perhaps for the PS3 only?! If so, what is the name of this game and what is its reviews?

Thank you for reviewing this question. Have an adventurously unconventional day. May the mysteries of life enchant you. Adieu.

Answer
Good day to you. I've been playing TR since 1996.

I enjoyed reading your summary of TR games history. So very few people on Yahoo take the time to put so much effort into a question. My hat goes off to you. I will return your courtesy by giving you a link to a website where you can download FREE Tomb Raider games. These were made by fellow TR enthusiasts using the Tomb Raider Level editor. Many of these are ready to play with no additional software needed. When you look at the title information page for a particular level, it should indicate so. These "levels" use the old "Core" game engine so, refresh yourself with the classic controls. Nothing from Crystal Dynamics here. There is also a level available that is a remake of the first Tomb Raider game but, with much improved graphics (since you didn't care for them so) It's called "Tomb Raider I revised" by an author named Daoine Sidhe. I have played this level and I can heartily recommend it for players who liked the very first game but didn't care for the crude graphics from 1996. The author also made some minor changes to enhance some of the gameplay from the original BUT took very good care to leave the original game intact.

http://www.trle.net/

Many players do not share your enthusiasm for TR Angel of Darkness. It's refreshing to find someone that didn't dislike that installment. I would like to play it at some point. I also share your feelings for TR Legend and TR Underworld.

However, I feel a bad sense for the new TR game. I have seen the trailers for it and I feel like it's trying to copy the same bland "Survival/Horror" genre that made Resident Evil such a success.
It's scheduled to be released in March 2013. We shall see if they don't delay it's release a second time. It's been over 4 years since the last game. The longest Tomb Raider drought in it's history.

What parts are good for building a gaming PC?

best gaming desktop 1500 image

8th Wonder

Can someone please recommend or list down the PC parts (brands and models) for building a gaming desktop for a budget of 1500 to 2000 Australian Dollars?

Motherboard
CPU
RAM
Graphics Card
Hard Drive
DVD Writer Drive
PSU
Casing

Also whats the power/speed differences between a Dual-Core and Quad-Core?

Thank you.

Answer
Since I'm feeling a little generous right now, I've researched some parts for you:

- Motherboard - Gigabyte EP45-UD3P: $209
- CPU - Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83 GHz: $330
- RAM - Corsair 4 (2x2) GB DDR2-1066: $108.94
- GFX card - Palit GeForce GTX275 @ 896 MB VRAM: $324.90
- HDD - Seagate Barracuda 750 GB (7200 RPM): $123.14
- DVD Writer - LG 22x DVD-RAM (IDE): $47.91
- PSU - Antec 650W: $143.95
- Casing - Antec 900: $175

-Total: $1461.90

I got the prices from Tech4U.com.au (except CPU - from CCPU); I haven't done business with them, but they seem to have decent prices overall and look reputable. If you don't mind getting the best prices from various providers, that is obvously preferred - use Shopbot.com.au.

You have a nice budget, so you have a wide range of options available - you might want to shell out an extra $100-200 for a GTX285, invest in the newer Core i7 CPUs and mobos, use the faster solid state drives (instead of HDD), etc..
Despite that, the system I've worked out would play any game smoothly at high settings.

For my PC (see my profile), I bought most of my parts from CCPU, and I'm very happy with what they provided me with, except the PSU, which broke down 6 months later.
If you want to do business strictly with a store front like I did, and you live around Sydney, they have great prices as well, and I'd recommend them (except PSU ;P).

For your 2nd Q, dual-core CPUs obviously use less power than quad-cores, but in terms of speed, it sorta depends - for general multi-tasking and certain programs, quad-cores will do great, but not many games fully take advantage of quad-core CPUs. - I only know GTA IV does. Quad-core is like "the way of the future" - wait a couple of years and most games will be optimized for them.

@ primalclaws1974
When you interpret multi-core CPUs, you don't automatically multiply the clock speed for the total speed - the processes are "paralleled" across the cores (i.e. one calculation is calculated by the 2/4 cores simultaneously) - clock speeds remain the same for all cores, but workload and time in receiving the output is decreased.

Really hope this helps!

I need to build a gaming desktop between 1000 - 1500$s?

I'm looking to build a gaming desktop in the price range of $1000 - $1500. I have been out of desktop gaming for a while so I'm not up to date on the current hardware. What would be a good system in this range that does not include: monitor, speakers. Any suggestions on decently cheap mice or keyboards would be welcome as well. Thanks in advance!

Answer
Ok, John, I think I can give you a heads up. You know that Intel just came out with their i7 core processors, and of course there is the i7 920 everyone is buying, but here is a very interesting bit of information, that Intel also released a turbo charge i7 core called the 860 and it only costs $10 more than the equivalent i7 920. It can go from a standard 2.80 Ghz to a turbocharged mode of 3.46 Ghz. If you compare the 920 ($279.99) to the 860, the 860 ($289.99) has everything, same L1 cache, etc, but you can turbocharge it. I am leaning heavily in favor of this CPU as a result for gaming. It's almost a brand new release of the i7 core and I think it is very worth while considering it as the CPU for your computer.

You need a cooler with this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103064

There are two different ASUS motherboards I want you to look at which are: RAMPAGE II Gene ($219.99), P6T ($289.99). Of course you don't want a cheap motherboard for gaming if you have the money to invest in the best, right and I think you do. The P6T has gotten more attention than the other one, but I did a comparison of these two boards, the Rampage and the P6T have X58 chipsets and the only difference is that the P6T has 3 X PCIe 16 slots while the RAMPAGE has 2 X PCIe 16 slots. The only other difference is the audio, which on the P6T is Realteck and the Rampage is Supreme FX. Big deal! That is what I figure, and you can save yourself about 60 bucks.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131371

This is a microATX but the holes are drilled in the ANTEC case to fit.

If you want a FULL ATX motherboard, go with the P6T for $60 more.

For Video, you probably can do it on one card, the ATI HD 4890, dual card in one. nVidia's answer has been in the GTX 285/GTX 295.
One example, the GTX 285 1 Gig, you can get for around $369.99 at Newegg.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143201

Or you can look at an ATI HD 4890 card ($199.99), which I think is a steal!:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150438

Both are one gig cards and they are both top of the line. I think the ATI card makes more sense and you save quite a bit of money on it compared to the GTX 285.

For memory, both motherboards take:

6 x DIMM, Max. 24 GB, DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1800(O.C.)/1600(O.C.)/1333/1066 Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory Triple Channel

I think stability in gaming is more important than superfast memory and I would recommend the DDR3 1066 memory and populate that motherboard! This has to come in TRIPLE sticks per set, or Tri-Channel. The older DDR2 was dual channel and this is triple channel to get the turbospeed. DDR3 1333 is probably your best solution for stability and speed. Here is some really low CAS latency memory, CAS 6 - compatible with i7 processors:

A Hitachi 1 Teribyte HD SATA 3.0

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145233

A 750 Watt PSU, Corsair, SLI Ready:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006&Tpk=750%20Watt%20PSU%20%2b%20Corsair

A DVD writer drive, Pioneer is my favorite:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827129049

An ANTEC 1200 supercooled case:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129043

I come up with $1295.91 on new egg.

Finally, you need a copy of the operating system. I suggest you get the OEM copy of Windows Vista ultimate:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116493

This is the 64 bit version and allows you to upgrade to Ultimate Windows 7. That brings you up to:

$1465.90

I think you will have a kickass computer John if you build this one!

The one you build yourself.....
NEVER buy a gaming computer.

Yahoo answers will only allow up to 10 links, so I have to leave out the not so important components. Just copy paste in the search field on Newegg to find them, I will give the full name but no link for those.

BEST BUDGET GAMING DESKTOP PC BUILD FOR THE MONEY (under $750.00USD for the tower only)
Monitor, keyboard and mouse can add from $175 to over $500, depending on size and model you want.
All prices are in $USD and in the USA, current as of December 2012 and they might be slightly different one way or the other by now.
Also, some shipping charges may apply to some of the items.
Add your state sales tax if you reside in NJ, CA or TN - that's where Newegg has warehouses.
Look for similar parts on Amazon, Tiger Direct, etc if you want to avoid paying Uncle Sam.

Where should I buy a cheap computer?

oogabooga3

We need a new desktop. I want something up to date and reliable which is good for checking email, paying bills, downloading videos and is inexpensive. We don't need it for video games or anything really fast like that. Where is the best place to buy a cheap computer?

Answer
First question is how cheap?
There are used PCs as both laptops and desktops on Craigslist and Goodwill stores for under $100.
They are not up to date and not necessarily reliable, but they function, and that is cheap.

The second is about your monitor-display, or are you using a TV that hopefully is higher resolution than x768. 720p TVs cause display issues in WIndows 8. Most computers today do not include the monitor, but do include a keyboard and mouse, and may or may not include USB speakers.

Third question is whether you go ethernet connected by cable, or do you need wireless. Some computers include wireless. Others need an added PCI card or USB stick.

Fourth question is form factor. There are towers called desktops in various sizes and go down to slimline and bookshelf and mini's. Often, you get better performance out of a low priced laptop, especially if including a display, and the laptops usually have HDMI outputs and can accept inexpensive mice, keyboards, improved speakers, and have portability.

With form factor goes the ease of upgrade or repair. In general, the larger and less integrated the system, the easier it is to repair or upgrade it.

Although you do not need high performance, we usually want the best value for the money, and a bit faster response times can't hurt. More ram is better. Larger HDD is better. CPU scores can be looked up:
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php
A second tab has graphics scores that are less important to you.

Places to buy are many in the US.
There are weekly sales of a couple of models and clearances.
Walmart, Staples, Best Buy, Newegg.com, Tigerdirect.com, Amazon.com gets you a variety and you can google a model once you find one to see if it is offered for less somewhere else.

You read a couple of surveys on quality:
2012 survey:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2020964/apple-and-lenovo-desktop-pcs-tops-in-satisfaction.html
2011 Survey:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/244481/desktop_pc_reliability_and_satisfaction_dell_and_hp_home_pcs_get_poor_grades.html
and use it as a factor, but Apple is expensive for what you get.

My sister wanted what you describe. She has a few older PCs and monitors, but wanted one where the internet worked faster and boot up faster and application responsiveness up to $500 and she ended up with a Lenovo H430 at Staples with Windows 8, a Core i5-3330 and 8GB RAM and a 1TB HDD and that met her requirements well in a tower pc.

Now, you start with a couple that meet your needs and see if you can do better:
A basic slimline Acer-Gateway for $340
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883113245
Model SX2370-UR13
A6-Series APU A6-3620(2.2GHz)
1x4GB DDR3 500GB 7200 RPM SATA III HDD
AMD Radeon HD 6530D
Gigabit ethernet, Bluetooth and WiFi
memory card reader
2USB 3.0 in back. 4USB 2.0
VGA and HDMI outputs
CPU score 2924, and graphics G3D 548
It would be nice to buy and install a second 4GB RAM card. That is easy.
$30 to $35 in a do-it-yourself
http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/memory/#t=11&v=1500&z=4096&c=90&n=1&sort=a8
Just match what it has already in speed.
It is an early 2012 CPU below an Intel i3 but still fast enough with graphics power you don't really need but is above Intel integrated HD 4000 but not gaming level. It is the new Windows 8 to get used to, but is a faster boot and shutdown. Does what you want and the price is considered cheap and size is small, but upgrading is minimal.
In Intel, whether Newegg or Walmart at about the same price, size and brand, gets an Intel G640 Pentium with 4GB RAM and 1TB HDD. The CPU and graphics are a little lower in performance but the HDD is bigger:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Gateway-SX2865-UR308-Small-Form-Factor-Desktop-PC-with-Intel-Pentium-G640-Processor-4GB-Memory-1TB-Hard-Drive-and-Windows-8-Monitor-Not-Included/22018103
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883113244

The choices are endless, so you have to narrow down your preferences and price point. Then you can just browse the online circulars and sites.

What specs and configuration could you suggest for gaming PC?

best gaming pc under 400 image

Nusferatu

I'm planning to configure a gaming PC and im confused about the specs of gaming PCs,could someone be kind to share tyheir knowledge about computers?
Here are some of my criteria:
-The price first and foremost, preferrably affordable and cheap not neccessarily branded.
-Hard Drive?
-Processor?
-RAM?
-Graphics card?

Answer
Ok so it's a gamer you want......
MOBO: Gigabyte EX38 chipset or newer
CPU: Intel Q9450 or higher
RAM: (here's the debate: if you use a 64bit OS get as much ram as you can. If you use a 32 bit OS your stuck with 4 GB) I used a 64 bit OS Windows 2008 Server x64 and I have 8GB of G-Skill PC2-1000 Ram, Make sure your RAM has a speed equal to or higher than the FSB speed of the CPU it will help decrease the bottlenecking problem for the data speed from the CPU to the RAM
Cooling: I prefer fans over liquid, but it is truly about choice.
Hard Drive: 3 in total 1) 80GB Western Digital SATA II (for OS only)
2) 1.5 TB Western Digital SATA II (Docs, photos,
and anything else you want to put on it.
3) 1.5 TB Western Digital SATA II ( Movies, or
virtual drives for your games)
Graphics card: I am a ATI fan and love the new HD series cards, but make sure it has a minimum of 512 MB of RAM on board and a cooling fan. I have two GPU's on my system and I run 4 monitors.

Now what I just listed if you bought it retail would run you about 3500.00 to 5500.00. Dependent on your location. I built this system last year and I spent just over 1500.00. I can now buy all of this stuff for well under 900.00. USE EBAY!!!! I have since learned how to find great deals on EBAY and love it. But if you don't have the cash don't bid. Make sure you also have a good power supply in your rig, I used an Antech Quatro True Power 850 Watt PSU. It is not cheap but it is worth it to have the power there when you need it.

If you want to build it your self have fun, it is a great and rewarding experience to build your own system, but if you don't want to build it your self, send an email to jdptechnology@yahoo.com, they will build what you want and do it cheap. I know this for fact because they just built a system for a friend and it had a diamond viper Graphics card with 512MB RAM on the card and had a n ECS MOBO with a Q6600 CPU and 4 GB's of ram and memory card reader and a DVD burner for under 400.00. It is a sweet machine.

What parts should I use in a budget gaming PC?

Brayden

I'm going to build a budget gaming pc and I'm wondering what parts I should use. I'm planning on using the Nvidia Geforce Gtx 650 and a Thermaltake TR2 500w power supply from my old computer, then I have $500 for the rest of the computer including a monitor. I really don't care about looks too much and I'm not planning on overclocking, Can anyone recommend some parts? Oh, and the monitor doesn't have to be full HD, but it's preferable.

Answer

What is a better TV to get, plasma vs lcd?

Q. So i want to get a tv that has really good video quality that i would use it to watch tv (standard definition), play a lot of video games, and watch my blu ray movies. I have read that there is a burn in problem with video games on a plasma, but what if i don't keep a still image while playing? I also read that the burn in problem isn't as bad as it use to be. I plan on getting it in 1080p with 120hz or more.

Answer
Well here are the pros and cons of Liquid Crystal display:

Unlike most television technologies, Liquid crystal display (LCD) works by filtering light. LCD TVs use less electricity and generate far less heat because unlike creating light filtering light requires a low voltage. LCD TVs have their drawbacks, such as price when compared to plasma TVs with the same screen dimensions.

Today heavy and bulky are not the only TV options, thin and light flat screen TVs are immensely popular. LCD televisions weigh less than a plasma TV of the same screen size. An LCD television is easy to move around your home and is a great option for tailgating. Any surface that will support a painting will generally support mounting of an LCD TV.

LCD TVs have brilliant color definition and unrivaled screen brightness that last for the life of the set. An LCD television on the other hand suffers from not-as-deep black levels compared to plasmas and CRTs because the LCD TV filters rather than creates light.

The deepest black on LCD Television is often a very dark gray because of the way some light will always pass through. Additionally, direct view LCDs generally have narrower viewing angles than comparable plasma TVs because of the manner in which light passes through the LCD cell.

Unlike many plasma TVs, most LCDs have a non-reflective face that prevents room lighting from degrading picture quality. Plasma, however, generally processes motion better than an LCD Television. 50Hz LCDs suffer from ghosting, which is trail left behind moving images. An alternative to the 50Hz TV is the 100Hz, while far more expensive does not suffer from ghosting and creates better black levels.

An issue that plagues all HDTVs is an inability to maintain picture quality while displaying analog and standard digital signals. LCDs tend to suffer from this fault worse than plasmas. Almost all LCD TVs now include high quality up-scaling chips that process the low-resolution signal and convert it to the TV's native resolution. This processing creates a cleaner, smoother motion with fewer artifacts and more preserved detail. However, the result is still generally inferior to similar processing on a plasma TV.

Another advantage of LCD TV is that they are not susceptible to burn-in, which could be a consideration for gamers and users who will use them to display a computer desktop. All phosphor based displays, such as plasma, rear projection, and CRT, are susceptible to burn-in, meaning that static images can leave an impression (or shadow) burned onto the screen. A counterpoint to this is that today's plasmas are highly resistant (but not impervious) to burn-in.

A plasma TV's light output degrades with time due to phosphor wear while an LCD Television's light output will be constant for its entire lifespan. LCD TVs' have a rated lifespan of 60K hours, which is ten years if it is used sixteen hours per day and far longer for most owners. In addition, the industry will soon conquer LCD TVs' current limitations and the strengths of the technology give it great long-term viability.

Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Televisions
Technology Overview & Description
Liquid Crystal Display, or LCD TVs use a florescent backlight (see LED Backlight Technologies for an update) to send light through its liquid crystal molecules and a polarizing substrate. LCD TVs work passively, with red, green and blue pixels. By applying voltage to the pixels using a matrix of wires, the pixels can be darkened to prevent the backlight from showing through. Many LCD displays double as computer displays by allowing standard analogue VGA input, a great option if you need your display to pull double duty as a PC monitor to save money and space. Nearly all LCD TVs offer flexible mounting options including walls or under cabinets.

What's Next
Thinner, bigger, faster, cheaper. Direct view LCD screens are just starting to break the size barrier that once held them back (with some models getting as large as 100+" though don't expect volume shipments) and it will be up to the manufacturing plants to convert or expand to the point where these larger screens become affordable and economical to produce. LCDs are not yet the best for black levels, but they are getting better due to LED backlighting and the "blur" effect, where the pixels cannot refresh fast enough for the screen motion, is all but extinct in newer 120Hz models.

LCD Display Advantages
Good color reproduction and improving contrast (high contrast tied to peak brightness capability however)
Very thin, getting thinner (thank Hitachi and Sharp)

Relatively lightweight with flexible mounting options
Perfect sharpness at native resolution
Excellent longevity
Among the brightest direct view displays
No practical screen burn-in effect
Silent with no moving parts or fans
LCD Display Disadvantages
Notorious "screen door" effect on smaller mobile displays
Very difficult to produce deep black

What is a good speed, amount of memory, a good hard drive size, etc for an at-home-use laptop?

And what is a good price for this laptop and where to find a good price? What are good brand names?

What type of internet should I install on it?
I'm using it for school work, at home, but also will have music/pics.

Answer
Thing's to consider are:
What will I primarily use this for?
School, work, photo editing, website building, web surfing, games, e-mail / instant messaging.

All the above I recommend Windows XP (home or pro). Avoid VISTAHELL, the manufactures will still sell you XP.

Hard Drive 80gigs or greater.
Memory 2 Gigs.
USB mouse
Wireless devices are now mostly built in and provide you with FREE internet access in Hot Zones.

A LAN card for internet (ethernet) is built in for cable, DSL or Satellite. If you use dial up make sure that have a dial up modem installed, dial up has gone the way of the dinosaur.

Acer makes a nice inexpensive model in the $400-$600 range, its limited in its features and add-ons and expandability.

Sony Vaio's are nice and expandable.

Asus: after the processor and memory, Asus makes most of the internal parts for desktops and laptops.

For an outstanding retailer check out the link below. I build PC's, for business and personal use and zipzoomfly's prices are excellent, customer service I've only required one and they were there for me.

Dell - buyer beware.

Windows XP end of life has been extended by Microsoft until 2012. It works it's stable and SP3comes out in a few weeks Vistas, first SP will come out next month and will fix over 600 issues. Microsoft is hustling to get Windows 7 ready to replace Vista at the end of 2008 or start of 2009, if all goes well.

If you want a minimal learning curve and more stability get a Mac.

Which laptop-selling company provides the best customer support?

Nonny

I currently have a Dell and because of my terrible experiences with their customer support, i will not be purchasing my next laptop from them. One of my top priorities in my search for a new laptop is the quality of customer service. I'd appreciate specific examples rather than general statements, if possible. Thanks.

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2400797,00.asp

I have also read many reviews that the Genius Bar at the Apple Stores is the most knowledgeable of tech support offered in a retail store setting. However, their Tech Support is not cheap, unless you buy a 3-years Service Agreement from Apple.

If Tech Support is your top concern, you may want to look into a Mac. Apple is the biggest personal computer and have the volume to get the best suppliers. Well. Maybe not the suppliers who are best to their own employees.

If you want to stay with Windows, I'd recommend Lenovo because their Thinkpads are still better made than most. Sony as a corporation has lost a lot of business in TV, music players and game consoles and hasn't really put out anything special in computers.

How do you build a gaming computer?

I know the very basics of the computer and how to put one together, but I have no clue what kind of parts to put into a computer to make it run graphic intense games with ease. What's a good site to learn more in depth about what each part of a computer does and works? Or can someone just tell me their computer specs if its a good gaming pc and costs under 1000$.
It does take somewhat around 1000$ if you want to play ultra graphics on a graphic intense game :P

Answer
It doesnt take 1000$ to play games. If you can plug stuff in, you can build a PC

Heres a site that talks in depth about each computer part.

Okay, so I've had two laptops in the past. A 2007 Toshiba laptop, which promptly broke within the first month of having it and didn't play a game like the Sims 2 properly. It broke properly in 2010, where it had blue screen of death, screen issues and it wouldn't turn on without the battery.

November 2010, I bought a new Dell Laptop with i3 core processor with Windows 7. I bought it as a quick replacement, but it was £300~ a bit, give or take a hundred. However, it is very fragile. The slightest bump and the screen will go. It's also beginning to FALL APART. The skin it coming away from the frame, the speakers keep blowing and every time the screen goes from the bump, it has to go back to the repair store.

The biggest problem is that I'm a huge hardcore gamer. I own three xboxes, but it would seem for the small amount of PC titles I want to play (Simulation games like Sims 3, Spore and games like Skyrim and Dishonored ) will just NOT play at all. It will run something like Sims 3 for about five minutes before overheating and crashing. I bought a cooling tray for it, but that doesn't seem to help at all.

So, this prompts the question, what do I get as a replacement? Currently saving money in my bank but I'm not sure whether I want a laptop or a desktop. Laptop is more practical because I'm a student and regularly need to take it with me into college and when I visit my father on weekends. Desktop I know is more powerful and the liklihood of it breaking is smaller but it's not portable at all.

Laptop is what I'm looking for, but what kind of graphics card, ram, memory am I looking for it to play something like Skyrim with ease? My brother has a Dell laptop a model BELOW mine and it works perfectly for him, super quick but he has different graphics cards and such since we bought it for gaming.

Any ideas? I'd really appreciate decent comments and I'm not looking to spend £1,000 for a computer. Something around the £300-400 mark for a complete laptop is what I'm looking. I've heard certain models are better but... No idea what I'm looking for.
I can't build my own. I don't have the expertise or money. I'll add to it in the future.

Answer
I've got ASUS G75VW and i play the Sims 3 on it and the games work fine, and I've got this computer over 11 months now. what can you do on the sims 3 expansion packs?

Leigha

i know they are making an expansion pack for the sims 3 but what is the name of it and what can you do?

Answer
The Sims are going on a trip around the world. Electronic Arts has unveiled the first Sims 3 expansion, keeping it on schedule to match its predecessors' substantial number of content packs.
Titled World Adventures, the expansion will take the Sims out of Sunset Valley and Riverview and send them to "real-world inspired destinations" cities in China, France and Egypt. So you won't be going to Beijing, but you will get to check out "Shang Simla."

The expansion will feature new opportunities and skills, as well as the ability to kidnap (er, meet) foreign Sims and bring them back to Sunset. As was the case when the game launched, people who purchase the expansion at launch will get 1000 SimPoints for use in the online store.

In addition to the PC version, World Adventures will be appearing on the iPhone and iPod Touch, and will feature "customized mobile gameplay features" The mobile version will be arriving 2010, with the PC version set to arrive November 16.

Thats all i found
explains it all dsnt it? i cant wait!

Should I buy a new gaming PC or wait for the next gen- gaming consoles?

Cole

I'm pondering if I should buy a gaming PC or buy the new ps4 or xbox 720. One thing i'm really sick of hearing is that pc is better for gaming than either of the consoles because of the capabilities and graphics. Is this true? What should I do?
@Golden Where should I build my pc?

Answer
This is true. You should build a gaming PC. See PS4 has an APU meaning CPU and GPU in one unit. It has mid-range CPU and it is a mobile CPU meaning low performance and it is gonna have performance some where between 7850M and 7870M which is still slower than todays modern PC. Go and get a PC. PS4 to have 8GB of ram but todays PC has 16-32 GB of Ram. PC you can always upgrade as new parts come out whereas in consoles you are stuck with the same hardware for 5-6 years. Every game looks better on PC and will look better. Dude please don
t go buy one. If you build a PC yourself with all your favourite parts its gonna cost you a lot less and way better than PS4 and Xbox 720. Please if you have any more questions then send me an email on runnermars@gmail.com. Hope I helped. Thanks. Please reply

Hi, I really want Portal 2, but I hate using our XBox so I want it for PC, unfortunately neither of my parents will allow me to put it on their computers, so I'm looking to buy a quality gaming PC. I need to know how much a good one will cost, as well as what brand I should buy. Any ideas? Plz help!!!

Answer
It really depends on what you plan to do with your gaming PC

Do you want GOOD, GREAT or the BEST?

A GOOD gaming PC should cost about 600$. This is enough to go on mostly high settings at a mainstream resolution. Basically a normal home computer but with a dedicated GFX card.

A GREAT gaming PC should cost about 1000$. This is what you'd get if you want to use a single monitor and play games on their highest settings at a high resolution. You'll either use 1 top-of-the-line card or 2 midrange cards working together, and you'll want a pretty good processor.

The BEST gaming PC should cost above 1500$. This is for people who use multi-monitor displays, 3D effects, or absurdly high resolutions. Prepare to purchase multiple graphics cards, at least 2 high-performance hard drives (for RAID 0), a sound card, and liquid cooling systems.

BUT REMEMBER, THIS IS ONLY FOR THE PC TOWER COST: YOU STILL NEED TO BUY A MONITOR, MOUSE, KEYBOARD, AND OPERATING SYSTEM! I personally spent 350$ on those (200$ monitor, 100$ OS, 20$ keyboard and 30$ mouse) you may also want to buy headphones, so keep those in mind too.

If all you want the PC for is to play Portal 2 and maybe some MMORPGs, then go with Good. if you plan to get into Steam and build your library, go Great. If you have too much money on your hands and want to surround yourself with the best, go...Best.

How good of a gaming pc is this so far?

Marcoz

I am planning on building my own gaming pc to handle games like Skyrim and Far Cry 3 on ultra settings. So far these are the parts I am choosing to buy.
-AMD FX-6300 Vishera CPU
-Asus Sabre Tooth 990fx Motherboard
-Radeon HD 7850 Graphics Card
-G. Skill Ripjaws 8gb DDR3 1600 Ram
-Seagate Barracuda 1tb 7200RPM Hard Drive
Are the parts I have chosen compatible with each other? And if they are how would you rank the pc these parts would build on a scale of 1-10. 10 being amazing, and 1 being piece of crap. And if you guys have suggestions for me for different parts I could get instead of the ones I have chosen to make my pc more powerful without costing me a lot more please let me know. Thanks guys any advice is appreciated.

Answer
If you are doing gaming then why you are investing more money in Motherboard and and less power CPU

if you are getting Sabertooth then you should buy the AMDFX-8350!

So what i suggest you is get a AMDFX-8350 With Asrock 990FX Extreme4 and Radeon HD 7950 OC With Boost

RAM Is Good To Go
PSU : Minimum 600 Watts Required with one 12V Power Rail

How to turn my old family pc into a moderate or decent gaming pc?

Hey, my name is David and I would like to turn my old family pc into a decent gaming pc.
The specs on this old pc is Windows vista home premium, amd athlon x2 processor 4200+, nvidia geforce 6100, an dvd optical drive,400 gb hard drive, 2gb ddr2 dual channel, and a 15-in-1 memory card reader. I'm looking for parts to replace that will at run league of legends at least medium settings. Please comment about what to replace and with what, linking to a site like amazon to buy the parts
This can barely run league of legends about 10 fps-15

Answer
Quite honestly, you'd pay more money to just upgrade parts than if you were to build/get a newer, better computer. The motherboard that would be running that old stuff will not be able to handle any of the new equipment that would get you a quote "moderate or decent gaming pc". You can build a PC that will run LoL (since you state that specifically) for about $500. Start with an AMD A10-5800K, an appropriate motherboard with an FM2 socket, and go from there. The processor I listed has a fairly decent video card built in, so you can get the CPU and GPU for only 120 bucks.

What is the best possible gaming pc you can build, in your opinion?

Adrian De

im planning on getting a gaming pc and my friend knows how to put them together so just tell what would be the absolute best gaming pc you would put together? like all the parts such as processor, graphics card, etc. money is not a problem :]

Answer
Go to newegg.com, scroll down and click build your own. You can buy a bundle of the best equipment for gaming. You can also browse the whole website, and pick out whatever you want.

I would suggest that you get:

Rosewill Blackhawk Ultra computer tower(computer case). (their fans are good also)

7 or 8 core processor;

2 Tb of hard disk space;

between 8 and 12 Gb of RAM;

600 watt or better power supply;

2 Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 or 590; or Sapphire Radeon HD 6990 4GB;

also I would get some type of liquid cooling for your CPU.

Hope this was helpful.

The many responsibilities of having a gaming pc?

best gaming pc antivirus image

e1e456

The parts for my pc will be arriving soon. I just want to know, once it's built, what are some of the responsibilities I'll have to make sure it's in tip-top shape. I know about the eventual upgrade with parts like graphic cards and updating nvidia drivers but what else is there? Do I have to open up my pc every once in a while to clean it up, if so how many times a month? Any help and suggestions would be appreciated to making sure my pc goes strong.

Answer
Well, I'm not a tech junkie, but having a computer does take some responsibility. For instance some times your registry files, broken shortcuts, your hard drive being fragmented can get in the way for a better preforming PC. Also the computer is not like a console so viruses can tend to creep in and destroy your precious computer.

For virus protection, hacking protection, etc. I would get AVG which should be here:
http://www.avg.com/us-en/free-antivirus-download

Of course I pay for AVG for protection, but even if it free it can protect you from many, many threats that Norton couldn't.

To boost the speed of your PC and get rid of unnecessary files you can get the program here, but it does cost money:
http://www.avg.com/us-en/avg-pctuneup

Of course most of the things that can clean up your PC and get rid of unnecessary files can be cleaned up by going to your computer 's hard drive by "optimizing" it, "Clean up," and "Format" it.

However with AVG PC tune up, it will clean your computer every so often when you don't even know it, giving you a fast computer everyday.

I would also recommend you using mozilla firefox as well because it is faster than internet explorer and will not often give "not responding" messages. Here is the link to get it:
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

For most videos and other stuff to watch on websites, adobe flash player is a great way to watch videos with high quality, and has the best plug ins as well:
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

You can download stuff on to your computer through this program, buy games really cheap when on sale, stay connected to friends more easily, and some games require you to download this as well:
http://store.steampowered.com/

It is also good to keep updating your computer to the latest versions on every program you have installed. Of course if you will get a windows 8 for your computer or windows 7, you can set your computer to update itself every time there is a new update. If you don't update your current files to the latest version, you are at risk for your PC to slow down, but that is pretty much it I can tell you.

Hope that helps. :D

How do I run game maps faster on pc?

David

I like to play some games on the pc instead of a console but i have a crappy pc. Some games that i play are newer games so they require a better pc to play them. While I can play some games just fine without lag or choppy game play, the maps will take FOREVER to load. I'm thinking about getting RAM (about 2-3 Gig) but will it solve the problem or do i need something else?

Answer
ram is one issue but that's major over kill you can have all the ram in the world but if your graphics card is junk then your just spinning your wheels going no where

ok here is a little secret
if you got 2 hard drives the one where your operating system is leave it be put most things on the other and put in a few page files on your other hard drive page files take some hard drive space and uses it like ram
other things is defrag your computer long story short Winslows has a messy organization system just sorta throws things around on your hard drive so to make it "clean its room" defrag

check to see if you have spyware a free program that does that and has no spyware or anything nasty is spybot d/l it at spybot.com

antivirus do a free scan at Norton'swebsite

and word from the wise on any computer you only need 1 anti spyware program and 1 antivirus program any more is either over kill or your more likely to get a virus by d/ling the "wrong ones" since some of them are indeed actually viruses

and by all means double check what I am saying on your own!

Dells aren't as great as everyone seems to think they are. The best thing to do and the cheapest (at least here in the US) is to build one yourself. You can build an awesome gaming rig for around 1200USD or 607.593 (that's pounds right?) This would include everything, the mobo, core2 processor, video card, sound card, ram, a WD Raptor HD. THen if you don't know how to put it all together you could find someone to and it would still be cheaper than buying a new one.

I need a modern looking, portable/semi portable, performance laptop?

D

I currently have an HP Pavilion DV7 laptop that I use daily and love, but its weight is starting to take a toll on me carrying it around for my daily purposes. So I'm in the market for a new laptop that I can make an easier use of, I'm looking for a laptop that is sleek and modern, (for example the styling of a macbook) portable enough that it will still be of decent size and weight, ( like I don't want a 17" laptop that weighs 10 pounds) and it is a necessity that this laptop has some power under the hood, I don't need to play super detailed games or anything, I have my DV7 for that,(there's some upgrades in this tank) but I'd like it to have plenty of processing power, and be ready to have loads of powerpoints and high quality photos and videos played and made on it. I'm not specific on a Mac or PC, I would prefer to stay away from the Macs due to their extremely inflated prices, but feel free to put whatever you see fit. Windows 8 doesn't bother me, oh but it needs good audio. So that's my list, and if anybody is willing to take on the challenge, it has begun after you finish reading this. Good Luck, and thank you!

Better brands for overall build quality and reliability are ASUS, Samsung, and Lenovo. If you want a laptop that does not weigh much, I would recommend an ultrabook. Ultrabook laptops are deigned to be thin and light, in order to acheive this however, they do not usually have dvd/cd drives in them and have smaller hard drives. Here are some models available at BestBuy ( I will list both ultrabook and non ultrabooks for comparison).
