How difficult is it to build your own gaming computer?

e

I can't afford to buy a gaming pc. But I can afford to build it myself. But I have no experience and no knowledge what so ever of how to do it. So, I'm wondering if it would be a bad idea. How safe is it really? I;m scared I'll wreck it.

Answer
In general cases, it is extremely safe if you know what you are doing. I will design one for you on a budget right now, if you like. Just give me a price range and what you're looking to do with it.

We at AA Computers design and build custom computers depending on the customer's needs. Since you're building this one yourself, I'm just going to give you the links and you can buy the parts yourself.

I will advise, however, that if you are building a computer for the first time, read the rules on proper electronics handling. Static electricity is a big killer in electronics these days.

So, what's your price range?

hey guys, I'm going to start buying parts for a new gaming pc next month, was just wondering what i need to buy to be able to use the internet through my households already established wireless 802.11g network. Does there need to be a modem as well as/or just a wireless PCI adapter?

Answer
Gaming on wireless can work, but your signal will have to be very good, otherwise you'll end up with delayed or lost packets. This means that even though your ping times might look very good you'll still rubber band and hitch around when playing shooters or MMOs if the signal is poor.

In this case, don't hook the modem right to the computer - leave it right where it is. Just run a network cable from the wireless point (which will still have some wired ports) to your computer (almost every motherboard you could buy will have a wired network card). Newegg will sell you ridiculously long network cables for very cheap such as the 100 ft one I link in my sources.

How come my wireless adapter on my PC goes down every 20 seconds?

Trent T

I have a wireless adapter on my PC, and it works fine up until 20 seconds where it goes down for 1 second and comes back up, very annoying because I can't watch movies, play games, or have conversations, does anyone know why this would be happening?

Answer
Try reinstalling the drivers for it. Or the adapter itself may have gone bad.

I want to get into pc gaming but I know very little about PCs. The games I want to play are Skyrim and Guild Wars 2, I want to use mods on Skyrim (not sure if that matters). I want one thats around $500. I realize it wont be the best gaming pc, but Im just curious.

Answer
This is a good one around your budget:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1050241
Don't judge it by its case. Its a great computer at its price. but the problem with your budget is that with that money you'll only be able to buy the components, but none of the accessories. You need fans, lots of fans. Its no use buying a not expensive computer right now and having to buy another one in 4 years cause this one's already too worn out or overheated. I'd say you higher it a bit and customize one at ibuypower.com or cyberpowerpc.com, that's where im gonna get my computer and you can customize it the way you want. Its your choice anyway, the one I linked you there is great, I recommend it.
-EDIT
Here's another one. It's nice and its from the page I told you where you can customize. This should be able to hold skyrim. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229285

Will I be able to trade my ps3 and accessories for a gaming pc?

Logan

I would like to trade my ps3 and accessories for a solid entry level gaming pc, or at least sell them for enough to purchase/build one. I have the 160gb ps3 slim, 2 controllers, a roxio game cap, a turtlebeach headset, a gaming chair, ghost recon future soldier, skyrim, dead island, and 9 or so games on the hard drive. Will I be able to trade or sell these things for a gaming computer? Is that a realistic goal?

Answer
Most likely you could trade it in at a local GameStop but you wont get very much cuz GameStop rips people off

What is the Ultimate Gaming PC of 2013?

Okay so I have been wondering how much would it cost to build from scratch the Ultimate Gaming PC. I know you can make a PC that plays games good for around 400-800 bucks but that isn't what I would like. I want something that can fit every gaming scenario and run games not good or great, but EXCELLENT. Something that I won't have to upgrade in the upcoming years. (unless I have to haha) I just want to know because I want to PC game without restrictions. Thanks!!!

Can you play games without a graphics card?

Q&A

I just got a gaming pc but my graphics card was defected. I called customer service and they told me to remove it and connect my vga cable or w/e to the motherboard ( I think ) They're going to ship me out a new one, but until then can I play simple games ? like WoW, League of Legends, Dungeon Defenders etc. without a graphics card ?

Answer
If the motherboard has built in graphic card or one built into the CPU, sounds like it does. possibility if you run the games at lowest graphic setting. Games may run very slow. You will have to test it out. Flash based games will work. Good luck to you.

check you game here with your system spec or just try them.

What is the cheapest and/or best website (UK) to build a custom gaming PC?

L.H.

I am living in the UK, and have seen quite a few different websites for this sole purpose more often than not, and was wondering if some websites are better than others. If you know a good website for PC packages as well I am looking for a gaming PC for hopefully no more than £1000, and I'm not sure I'm willing to choose to spend any more on one than that. Thanks

Answer
Any of those websites you have already seen can produce a custom made gaming PC for you at minimal cost. I am sure you will get a powerful system to run all your games and future generations of games for the £1000 you are ready to spend.

In fact you can build this system by your self selecting the components you prefer from the thousands on the market now-a-days.

I do all my building work myself never trusting all those companies who only want your hard earned money, giving you sub-standard products in return.

Most sites you have seen would know how to knock one together for you, it is the component selection that really makes the difference.

I hope I have been of some help here.

I'm trying to make my first build. I want to build a computer that's fast normally for running multiple programs and good for gaming. Can anyone come up with good components for around 700- 900 dollars? Prefer 700-850. THanks!

Answer
Try the Tom's Hardware $700 build, linked below- it only includes the cost of hardware, not the extra $120 you'll need for a copy of Windows.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/system-Builder-Gaming-PC,2509.html

Update: After examining the performance for this month's T.H. build, it's not great (last month's was much better). So let's go with this instead:

CPU: 2.9Ghz Athlon II X3 425 - $84
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103724

Motherboard: Gigabyte MA-770T-UD3P - $80
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128392

RAM: 4gb G.SKILL DDR3 1600 - $105
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231193

Graphics card: HIS Radeon 5770 1gb - $163
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161317

Case: Cooler Master Centurion - $60
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119077

Power supply: Corsair CMPSU-550VX - $80
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB - $56
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136073

DVD/CD Burner: Sony Optiarc - $28
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118030

I'm assuming you're running at stock speeds, so I didn't include a 3rd-party CPU cooler.

Total of $657 before tax, for a 2.9Ghz triple-core system... Just add Windows! I think you've got about $27 in shipping costs and $30 in mail-in rebates- woohoo!

You can save $43 by going with a GTS 250 as your graphics card, but you'd lose DX11 support and a bit of speed. However, the GTS 250 is still slightly faster than the Radeon 5750 and 4850 cards. The choice is yours ;-)

What gaming PC allows you to add a PS3 or Xbox 360 to your tower?

best gaming pc website on Gaming Pc Under 500 | PC Web Zone

baddawg121

I know that you can make your own PC tower and add a PS3 or 360 to it. However, it'll be a lot of work. I know that there's one on sale on some website where you can add a PS3 or 360 to a gaming PC as part of it's tower. Anyone heard of it?

Answer
I don't know any towers that are actually made for this, you would probably have to custom build one.

Just remember, you will need space for 2 motherboards if you want to add it to a tower that also has PC components, and enough space for expansion cards and such. Don't forget about very good cooling, placing PS3 or XBOX 360 components into a case with PC parts is going to create a lot of heat. Wii would probably be a much more simpler system, very small components, and very minimal heat.

You would need to drill custom holes for any game console motherboard, and also accommodate for different hard drive size, PS3 and XBOX 360 both use 2.5 inch hard drives, while PC uses 3.5. Another thing would be to have some custom cradles so you could mount the disk drives in such a way to be accessible.

Any way you try to do it, you will need to have one very big case. The most space efficient would be to have the motherboards across from each other, but make sure to have enough space in between for airflow, expansion cards, and heat-sink's.

Answer
build one yourself, anything up to core i3 or the new amd quad core bulldozer should be enough for processing, graphics should be at least up to 1gb with 3000mhz of clock speed, something like gtx560 or hd 6750 should be enough for the next 3 years

During the summer of 2013 I am thinking about spending £1000 on a gaming PC, so I need to know what company makes good 'solid' PC's that do not break instantly and are 'trusted'.

Thanks

Answer
A grand will get you top spec. but you will want to self build, you'll get all the parts you want and quite possibly cheaper than a prebuilt system.

I recently did a build for someone (details are on my email account) which was on a £700 budget,

i5-3570k
asrock z77 extreme4
8gb ram
1tb hdd
WiFi card
OCZ 600w PSU.
7850 Radeon HD graphics.
120gb sandisk extreme SSD.

this came in at 700, so for 1k, you can up the graphics card to top spec and still be in budget...

prices change and tech is renewed quite often so in 6months there will be an even better spec available.

What do you think of my Gaming PC build? here are the specs

HAF 912
Zotac GTX 560 ti 448
i5-2320 (don't have the money to upgrade to a 2500k)
ECS H61H2-M2
Seasonic 620w
G.Skill 8gb Value Series
DVD Burner/ Windows7

What do you think? Will it max out modern games? Thanks!

Answer
looks real good, and you kidding me, a gtx 560ti 448 can max ANY game there is on the market at 1920x1080 pretty easily...

But here are things i would change:
motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157241
cheaper and better, i wouldnt get ecs boards.

the psu is alittle overkill, you can drop it down to like a 500-550W and could probably save some money.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027

and as for the graphics card i would stick with asus, evga or msi
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121480
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127615

the MSI twin frozer II/III and the asus DC/DCII have the best cooling solutions, for higher end cards, they are the way to go for sure.

I i would love for someone to tell me which game this card isnt going to max settings on?
the gtx 560ti 448 is pretty much an equivalent to gtx570 in performance. So again tell me what game in this world a gtx570 can not max settings on? and dont say derp for max settings the resolution needs to be set to max, most people dont play on resolutions above 1920x1080.

EDIT: jim...
that case is a really good case, idk wtf you are smoking. Ya the antec v3 is better, but that case is $110...
how can you possible recommend an antec psu over seasonic... guess who makes both antec and corsair? seasonic does...
evga's warranties for most of their cards are a lifetime warranty (lifetime of the card not your life...), meaning what ever they say the lifetime of the card is, is how long you have a warranty for. So if the card has an expected lifetime of 15years, you have a 15year warranty.
And lastly why would you get pro/ultimate? xp mode? windows 7 can run any xp software, it just cant run software that is older then xp (like win me,98 etc). Which i have no idea anyone in the world who need to run that old of software, except maybe cheap greedy businesses who wont upgrade software, which they probably pirated in the first place...

What is a good desktop out there with good price?

the guy

i want to buy a gaming PC and i don't have a lot of money.(in fact i don'y have any money, i have to beg my mom) So i'm looking for a good PC and good preformance but also a good price around 200-400$,a little more or less.

Answer
400$ are you kidding me???

Lol i was in that same situation. If your short on cash. BUILD A COMPUTER i did. Its your only option unless you want a shitty netbook. I went to Newegg.com and put together the best 700$ computer you can get. After some talking i got her to buy it. Now im sitting here playing Crysis. (not kidding).

But hey, know your moms financial status. Dont be a dick and make her feel guilty that she cant afford it. These are hard times. You just don't do that to your mom. My parents lost $500,000 out of there 401k. I'm not going to ask them for anything unless i will die with out it. And they were on the verge of retiring. D: Only do that if you know your mom has gold in that bank account but wont let you in on it.
I have found to get your mom to get you want you want you better give her what she want. (Idk good grades, no trouble, do the dishes etc.) Dont be a brat and complain. Talk things out. "This is my early B-day present" always works. :D

if you want help putting one together tony971993@sbcglobal.net
I cant guarentee anything (Im only 15) but ill do my best.
