PC GAMES GRAPHICS CARD?

GHOSTwarri

Hello I have an HP pavillion dv6 laptop with an Intel(R) Graphics media acelerator as my chip type. I was checking out this new game and it tells me I need one of the following to play, Geforce 7900 GT / Radeon X800 XT, as a graphics card in order to play. As you can see from above mine doesn't say that. Heres the thing, I am able to play left for dead 2 and battlefield bad company 2 on my laptop. Can my "card" do the job? Any explanations are of great help. Thank you!

Answer
No, your built-in Intel Graphics Media accelerator is very weak compared to most graphics cards. Unfortunately on laptops you cannot upgrade the graphics card to a higher model, like you can on desktops. The built-in chipset is a permanent part of the motherboard.

There is a device called the Vidock2 which can improve your graphics capability on laptops, but it only works for connecting to an external monitor.

Here is a comparison of laptop graphics cards:

Gaming graphics card ?

Jeff

I have a brand new pc that I built and I have a built on hs radeon 4200 graphics card but I can only play games at 640x400 cause it lags to much

And I was wondering what graphics card would be the best for games like mafia 2.. ghost warrior and call of duty. My price range is between 100 to 200 hundred cheaper the better

Pc specs
Asus motherboard with pcie 2.0 M4A785-M
Amd phenom II 955 black edition CPU
450 watt psu but will upgrade
4 gb 800 ddr2 RAM

Thanks

Answer
hi jeff
you have built a excellent pc up to now and as you have stated the intergrated radeon HD4200 graphics are pretty abysmal.... however with a budget of between £100 and £200 there are a few cards i would recommend with the first one being the "Asus HD 6850 1GB GDDR5 OC Graphics Card "( http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/ATI+6000+Series/ATI+Radeon+6850/Asus+HD+6850+1GB+GDDR5+OC+Graphics+Card+-+(EAH6850+DC/2DIS/1GD5/V2)+?productId=42291) .... for the price this is a extremely powerful card and has some excellent specifications... these include a 790mhz core clock and 1gb of gddr5 memory clocked at 4000mhz effective.... throw in a 256bit memory interface and 960 stream processors and you have a card that will run mafia 2 and call of duty black ops at high detail and resolution
the next card is the "MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti Twin Frozr II OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card"( http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/Nvidia+GTX+500+Series/nVidia+GTX+560+Series/MSI+GeForce+GTX+560Ti+Twin+Frozr+II+OC+1024MB+GDDR5+PCI-Express+Graphics+Card+?productId=43660 ).........this has a 880mhz core clock and 1gb of gddr5 memory clocked at 4200mhz ddr effective.... theres 384 stream processors and a 256bit memory interface... however this card runs alot cooler than previous nvidia high end cards.... and the twin frozr cooler is one of the best and most efficent gpu coolers around...
either of these cards will be ok however you may have to upgrade your psu to a 550w model...... but dont worry, this wont cost the earth... you can get the "Corsair Builder Series 600CX Power Supply"( http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Power+Supplies/650W+or+less/Corsair+Builder+Series+600CX+Power+Supply+?productId=42488 ) for just £53 and this will power both these cards without any problems... theres also a strong single +12v rail that will power the card and all your other components in your pc,and being corsair you know you are getting quality hardware !
i hope this helps jeff, any questions let me know
good luck mate !

Gaming PC budget $800?

Ryan

I am looking to buy a gaming desktop with a max budget of $800. I definitely want Intel i5 3570 with 3.4 ghz. Also I don't really care the case as long as all the parts fit in the case. Games I will be playing are NFS, COD, Battlefield 4, AC4, GTA 5 if it comes out for PC, and others. I am basically asking what is the lowest price for a GFX card that can play these games and record them hopefully. Thanks.
Also do you think this PC could give me what I need: http://aa-comps.com/product/aac-x4s/

Answer
For an $800 pre-built PC with an i5 3570, they'll most likely just give you the integrated solution or a low end nvidia or radeon graphics solution . Also the aa comps product can most likely play any game from before 2012 and certain games now on low settings but with the jump to next gen (the PC watchdogs and AC4 requirements are proof of this) it wont last. I'd recommend this website for computer part information.http://www.game-debate.com/

Help building a gaming pc budget $700?

Bryan

Is there that big of a difference between the i3 and i5? I don't know which one to get. I would prefer the i5 but it is more expensive, and I heard the i3 is still good. I just want to know will the i3 be able to play future games good still. I have a $700 budget and I want the i5 3570k with the Radeon 6950 but they are expensive. What other choices could I go with that would be good?

Answer
$700 is not enough, even for a good budget gaming PC. Make that $800 and you're in business...

YES, there is a big difference between an i3 and an i5, first of all, i3 are dual core processors while i5 are quad core.
For gaming, you get good enough results with an i3-2130 or even an i3-2100 processor. And YES, it will play most modern games very good, even future games.

CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus CPU Cooler
AOC 21.5 LED LCD Monitor
32gb SSD Drive

Answer
Considering the fact that you have a Dedicated Graphics card, not to mention 2GB on it, then I'd say you can run any game you want on extreme or the highest settings with little to no latency or loading issues. This being said, there's no way to know for sure as each and every game has their own different programming for the display of graphics. You'll know if it's putting too much strain on your computer if it slows down, acts glitchy, have bad load sectors (like the game has big chunks that aren't loaded, ie black "cracks" in the world), or you hear a weird break in the audio. The only way to know is to play and adjust accordingly. Some graphics require different settings to look better, such as anti-aliasing or frame syncing

You probably can play any game you want on the highest settings, but what might cause it to slow down are the extra programs you might be running, such as video recording or video streaming, running a second monitor, 3D vision for 3D displays, or running your antivirus while you're playing.

Brilliant PC, but if you want to step it up a notch, go with what AFRO NINJA says. except keep the SSD for your OS and vital programs such as your antivirus ONLY!

This can speed up your computer dramatically.

Then just get a separate drive for your games and stuff.

Video Card - $120

Grand total $590 for a budget gaming quad core PC. Toss it all into your old PC case, or spend the additional 100 bucks on a new case of your choice.

You wont need to purchase a new operating system if you have an install disk and the key code for the one on your old system and just use your old hard drive and cd/dvd drive. If you do not have an install disk but do still have the product key for your operating system (usually on a sticker on the case) you can take the new build once completed to a repair shop and give them the key and they should have an install disk they can use to do it for you and shouldnt be too expensive.

best gaming pc under 800?

specs that i want: intel i7, 16 gigs of ram (or 8 ), 750 gig hardrive (or more), nvidia geforce or gtx 640, 650, or 680, windows 8, can be stylish doesnt really matter, a moniter or not, and if you want please also tell me a good gaming mouse and/or keyboard. THANKS!

Answer
Sorry, but there's no way you can get those specs for just $800. The best you can get with that budget, including a copy of Windows would be this build:

Intel Core i5-3470 Processor: http://goo.gl/vGTMQ

MSI B75MA-P45 Motherboard: http://goo.gl/B0J8g

XFX Radeon HD 7870 Graphics Card: http://goo.gl/j3P3g

8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM: http://goo.gl/l2SxW

1TB Western Digital Caviar Black Hard Drive: http://goo.gl/stXpE

NZXT Source 220 Case: http://goo.gl/WdXKl

500W Corsair CX500 Power Supply: http://goo.gl/fnlR9

Good Gaming mouse: Try the Logitech G500

Like any PC gamer would tell you, building your own is always the best way to go - not only being cheaper but also giving you the freedom to choose the exact specs you want and giving you the feeling of satisfaction knowing that the machine you're using everyday was put together with your own two hands.

If you run into any trouble there are plenty of online tutorials and forums where you can look for help.

Good Luck :)

Hints about a gamer PC...?

Lucas

Well, I was planning on making a gamer desktop, but there are so many specs that it will be hard to know which will benefit me.
I have some specs in mind, and I wanted to know who would be able to help me, maybe commenting about the specs.

#1 : AMD Phenom II X4 965 3,4GHz
XFX Radeon HD 6870 OR GeForce 550 Ti
RAM : 4GB or more.

#2 : AMD Phenom II X4 966 BE 3.2
Nvidia EVGA GTX 460 1GB GDDR5 / 256 bits
4GB RAM DDR3 Corsair Dominator

Now, questions :
Motherboard, how do I know the best model?
Nvidia or ATI?
GTX 460 or 550 Ti?
550 Ti or HD 6870?
What's your opinion about GTX 560 Ti?
AMD Phenom or Intel i3/i5/i7?

The more help, the better.
I hope not to be abusing a little :P

*Everything will run in a x64 Windows 7.
*Answer only if you know about the subject, please.
-I'm not abundant in money, so I don't care if there are better boards or w/e.
-I also have Intel i5 2500k as a processor in mind.
-The 4Gigs RAM are 2x, I forgot to add that.

Answer
A gaming PC mainly revolves around the graphics card. The processor only supports the card. If you have a weak processor, you won't get the full benefit out of your graphics card.

Core i3 and Phenom II X4 processors are good for budget gaming.

You should only buy a motherboard for it's features. If you want to overclock or run 2 graphics cards then you will need a better board. If you don't care to overclock and only want to run one card then get a basic board. These days you can't go wrong with Asus, Gigabyte, MSI. ASRock has been doing a good job with their boards. I would read the user reviews on newegg before choosing a board.

If you decide to go AMD I would buy at least an AM3+ 970 motherboard. A budget P67 motherboard for the Core i5-2500k will be about $130-150. If you want to overclock I would look at getting something that's $200. Why? because these boards have a better power design and are less likely to melt.

If you don't plan to overclock then don't bother with the 2500K. That processor has an unlocked multiplier. Save the $20 and go with the 2500 or perhaps the 2400.

Don't try to go cheap with the power supply. Don't listen to anyone who says it's okay to cut it close. It's not worth it to save 20 bucks. Get a name brand power supply with at least an 80plus certification. For your system a 650w power supply would be a safe bet.

The puppy guy really should really read some benchmarks. Last year, the Core i7-900 series processors were better at gaming but the difference wasn't enough to justify spending an extra $100 on that processor. If you were going to go intel the Core i5-750 was the processor of choice since it was priced similar to AMD's higher end Phenom II X4 chips.

While AMD has trying to get it's act straight and come out with their much delayed FX-Zambezi series, Intel released the 'Sandy Bridge' line. The $190 Core i5-2400 will smoke a Phenom II X4 965. It's that much faster to the point that it's hard to recommend AMD unless your have a very tight budget. In a processor intesive game the Core i5-2500 will book right on by the X4 965.

As far as the graphics cards go, it depends on what settings you want. If you want acceptable settings then go for the 6770 or GTX 550ti. If you want to come close to maxing out the game then look at the GTX 560ti and 6950. the screen resolution of your monitor is important too. With a higher screen resolution, the graphics card has more pixles to fill and that slows the card down.

How to build a gaming pc?

I want to build a gaming pc that can play Crisis on max settings for under 1000 dollars. If i can't play crisis on max settings that is fine but i want the best possible pc for under 1000 dollars. Also could you recommend a good monitor the monitor price is excluded from the desktop price.

Answer
there is a gaming site that does the most power for a gaming pc in a budget. eg $1000 every month.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/build-a-pc-overclock-components,2725.html
also if you look here it can run crysis on highest settings @
52fps.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/build-a-pc-overclock-components,2725-6.html

just scroll down and you will see the $1000 build.
if you are not overclocking then dont get the extra cpu cooler. an OS is not included in the price.

as for a monitor, try this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236052&cm_re=monitors_23-_-24-236-052-_-Product

there is over 1200 reviews about it, so its pretty good.
dont forget, the bigger the monitor (resolution) the more pressure on your graphics card.

also here is a good guide for assembly, with pics.

What is a good single player PC games?

Porkchopsa

I recently moved from online competitive games to offline games because of the convenience to pause and save whenever I please.

I think aside from Pokemon and Golden Sun, the first game I ever finished was Sleeping Dogs. Shortly after, I finished Tomb Raider 2013, and boy was it incredible! Now i'm looking for my next journey.

What recommendations can you make that will top Tomb Raider (for the PC)?

Answer
Try Dishonored, Skyrim, BioShock games, trust me, you don't have to look far for good SP games.

Answer
Its sure is a good gaming rig, the processor is top notch and the amount and type of RAM is good so you won't face any lag or processing issues ever. Gaming mouse and keyboards are a personal preference but the one with this bundle is quite good and above average.
PSU is enough to power up all the components though i recommend that you go for a 500W or 600W PSU for keeping you future proof and also coz its the life line of all your expensive components so keep it the best you can.
The only thing that problematic here is the graphic card as it a 4GB DDR3 which is only suited for multi-monitor setups and will not give you a very good performance while gaming as a DDR3 memory is slow and can never process all that 4GB of memory in tight and fast situations like gaming and would prove to be a bottle neck for all the other high quality components in your rig so i highly recommend that you go for either of these they are in the same price range as the one that you are planning to buy:
Sapphire AMD/ATI HD 7750 1 GB GDDR5
Zotac NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 1GB DDR5
If you can extend your budget then do go for:
PowerColor AMD/ATI HD 7750 1 GB GDDR5 or
Sapphire AMD/ATI HD 7770 1 GB GDDR5

Other than this you have a very good machine change the GPU and i'll rate it 8/10

You can see this article if you like for any further guidance:

I want to build a gaming pc for under 500.?

spc.field

Anyhow I don't know too much about pcs. I have came up with this build. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1GSZ5 I was wondering if this is any good . Any changes or sugestions please.

Answer
That's not much of a Gaming PC, ASRock isn't a very good gaming motherboard. You would need at least 8gb of Ram for a gaming PC.

You would also want to go with Intel over AMD. I'd go with an ASUS motherboard (either Rampage or Sabertooth) you can't be cheap with a gaming PC.

You can not build a Gaming PC for under $500. At least not a good one.

If you MUST go with AMD, you'd want to go with this:

Processor: AMD FX6300 6 core 3.5ghz ($119)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100 ($80)
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3 ($65)
GPU: HIS Radeon HD7870 2GB ($210)
PSU: Corsair CX500 v2.3 600W 80 plus ($70)
RAM: CORSAIR XMS 8GB 240-Pin ($70)
HDD: Western Digital WD AV-GP ($90)
ODrive: Pioneer BDR-208DBK ($58)
case: CoolerMaster Elite 431 plus ($60)

Gaming Pc for under 500$?

I decided I want to build my own gaming pc from scratch. What would you guys recommend to buy for under 500$? ie(motherboard, processor, ram, videocard, case)

Answer
$500 isn't very much to work with in terms of a gaming PC - to be honest you probably need to spend $100 - $150 + just on a graphics card (depending on the type of gaming you do) so now were down to $400. I have a geforce 9800GT which is amazing for the price. If you go a little cheaper (like I did) you can always pick up another down the road and SLI them.

Ram - you could probably pick up 2gb (which is more than enough for the average person) for $50 (personally I would go with ddr3 since it's the newest, might cost a little more, but well worth it).

$300 - $350 left.

Mobo - AMD will be the cheapest route to go for what your getting. I have a Phenom II x4 945 which cost me about $177 after tax, amazing CPU, put probably out of your range.
I would suggest something like this.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103680&cm_re=phenom_II-_-19-103-680-_-Product

With a good CPU cooler you could easily overclock that to 3.6

$200 - $250 left.

Motherboard - assuming you went with my suggestion, you would need a AM3 compatible board, and ddr3 for the newest ram. This is the board I just ordered, for the price, it's a great deal. You'll get AM3, DDR3, SLI options, HDMI, etc..

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131398

Now were down to about $150

You still need a case, dvd drive, and power supply... I have an Antec 300 which cost me $50. I love it, now window, but you can always mod it if that's the stuff your into.

Power supply, I would go at least 750w, I think I spent about $70 for mine, just shop around.. Dvd drives are cheap. www.newegg.com is your friend.

You might want to budget yourself a little higher, so you get a bigger bang for your buck. Good luck

Gaming PC??

art

I only have like $500, and I need to get the BEST gaming PC that I can make. Can someone help me out choosing the parts? I already got the OS, hard drives, RAM, and SOME cables (rest will be about $30). Thats everything I have so far, and I need everything else like CD drive, case, etc. Can the parts also be from newegg.com or tigerdirect.com. And remember, I want the BEST GAMING PC I can get!

Answer
All prices are from Newegg.

Athlon X2 4200+ - $60

Biostar A770 - $68

Atton or Rosewill Case - $30

LG DVD-Burner - $30

OCZ StealthXtreme 600W - $84

BFG/EVGA/XFX Geforce 8800GT - $200

Since you're going for the best gaming PC, the idea is to get the cheapest in everything else and the best video card you can get. So basically, a cheap but effective AMD X2 CPU (cheaper than Intel, which is important here), budget motherboard, cheap mid-tower case, basic DVD burner, Cheapest high quality 600W PSU, and the almighty 8800GT.

This comes about $25 short of $500 that you can use for shipping, or a CPU fan that will allow you to overclock somewhat. You'd be able to play a game like Crysis on medium to high settings at 1280x1024.

Enjoy!

What kind of gaming pc would you recommend from newegg?

chrishell

My price point is at $650 already tax with it no rebates. This gaming pc needs to run civilization 5, guild wars 2, simcity 5, startcraft 2, shogun 2, left 4 dead 2. On ultra setting(maxed everything) or at high setting with no lags. I don't really need this for new games but, I don't want the pc to be tapped out at these games it would be good to have some wiggle room. I'm never going to use this pc for editing video maybe just for Microsoft office and homework.
I don't need monitors or keyboard or mouse.

Don't want to go over $650

Answer
I don't like the LINE-M
It is top-mount power supply
Using 1x8GB CAS 10 RAM
You lose RAID performance of 7%, and CAS 10 is not as good as CAS 9
You are also paying a premium for tall profile heat spreader because low profile of that RAM is on sale.
May want a cheaper power supply. You don't need 600W
Missing Windows operating system
Missing optical drive
7 parts are $564
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2L9lV
You will need a better CPU Cooler to do good overclock
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2L9wS
$559 - better case and balanced ram. SOme rebates ending fast

ADD: GTX 660 is a nice choice. Some bottleneck by the CPU can be improved by overclock

Good gaming PC for £650 or under?

Jacob

Ok so i am looking for a decent PC that will run all the Call Of Duty's(mainly waw, BO and MW3) and Skrim on a good framerate with no lag...and minecraft, but the specs don't need to be great to run minecraft anyway...that's already built...as i do not really know much about specs etc. My budget is £650 but i could push it up to £700 if necessary. Is this possible? Or will i have to pay i ridiculous amount for all of this? I will be very grateful for any advice or tips(:
Thanks in advance(:

Can I use my PC controllers on my PS3?

Son of Hea

I just bought 2 controllers to play FIFA Soccer on my PC.
I just wonder if I can use them to play games on my PS3.
Thank you for your help!

Answer
Well, PC controllers have those USB things so I guess you could connect them to your PS3.
The keypad format is the same too....
Also, since Sony lets 3rd-party companies make stuff for them, Im pretty sure that the controllers will work.

best linux notebook games?

i am a che

what are some low requirement games that will run on 1.7ghz pentium m and 768mb of ram

Answer
12. You Have To Burn The Rope
Free - www.mazapan.se/games/BurnTheRope.php
A good place to start looking for innovative games that won't stress the system is the short-list of the Independent Games Festival awards - the event that spawned the incredible Portal. Not everything is of that quality, but YHTBTR shows off the kind of quirky thinking of many indie developers well.

11. MAME
Free - mamedev.org
One advantage of using a full Linux distribution is that you'll find many games and apps in the standard repositories, which are a one click download and install. The MAME project (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) has been going on for years, and can allow you to play arcade and console games from the 90s (including Atari ST and Amiga classics) if you have the original game code handy.

10. TORCS
Free - torcs/sourceforge.net
You can't mention Linux gaming without mentioning TORCS, The Open Source Racing Car Simulator. It may not be quite as slick as the latest Need For Speed, but neither do you need an uber-rig to run it - indeed you'll get it going on low settings on an Eee.

9. Super Tux/Super Tux Kart
Free - supertux.lethargik.org, supertuxkart.sourceforge.net
Again, we can't not mention these stalwarts of Linux gaming, although they've been around seemingly forever. Super Tux is a clone of the Italian plumbering platformer, Super Mario. Guess what Super Tux Kart is a bit like...?

8. Coil
Free - komix-games.com
Another of the finalists from the Independent Games Festival, Coil is a bizarre art-meets-gaming-with-haunting-music-Flash affair. The chances are you'll sit at a blank screen as there's no instructions and what you to do is fairly odd, but the clue is in the title. Give it a go for something different.

7. LinCity NG
Free - lincity-ng.berlios.de
Another Linux essential is this spin on SimCity. Just like the Maxis title of yore you have to build and maintain a thriving metropolis. Winning the game can be achieved by colonising space, and version 2.0 was released just last month.

6. Defcon
£6 - www.introversion.com
There's a fully working Linux client for this beautifully simple strategy game - based on 80s movie WarGames - from Introversion. All you need is a CD key from the Windows game to start nuking the world.

5. Dyson
Free - www.dyson-game.com
The last of our picks from the Independent Games Festival, Dyson is a strategy game that involves conquering asteroids using... well... it's hard describe as everything is highly abstracted, but it comes together beautifully well and has a Linux native installer.

4. Darwinia/Multiwinia
£8/£16 - www.introversion.co.uk
As a developer, Introversion specialises in games that are rewarding to play rather than look fancy. The genre-defying Darwinia runs natively on Linux, but its lightly coded follow up is so good that we've included it as the only game requiring Wine on the list, too.

3. Warzone 2100 Resurrection
Free - wz2100.net
One of the best RTS games ever released, Warzone 2100 looks and plays like a modern game, not something from the late 90s - which it actually is. Saved from oblivion by a dedicated team of programmers who've kept it alive, updated it and released the source code for Linux.

2. Frets on Fire
Free - fretsonfire.sourceforge.net
You know you can get a Wii controller working with a Linux PC, right? Stands to reason you should be able to get a Guitar Hero instrument working to play this awesome clone on your EeePC too. Arguably better than the real thing, Frets On Fire can import songs from your own sources.

1. DooM Legacy
Free - sourceforge.net/projects/doomlegacy
It probably shouldn't be top of the tree, but netbooks are so good at retro that not installing DooM Legacy and reliving the game that basically defined shooters as we know them today would be a crime. Even though it looks basic, it's still incredibly good fun to play and the in-game sounds have become part of our aural lexicon.

Can You Game on the Sony VAIO VGN-FW290NAH Notebook PC?

Mark G

What kind of games can you play on this?

Answer
This notebook is not suitable for gaming.

Reason being that it has an integrated Intel graphics chip (GMA 4500MHD) which isn't good for much except basic use and watching videos.

The Intel integrated chips are the worst gaming chips on the market, google a few reviews of them and see what I mean.

You want to look for a laptop with a dedicated nVidia or ATI graphics chip if you want to game on it.

Where can I share my video game ideas?

Gryphon Ki

I really want to make computer video games such as, world of warcraft. I have really great ideas but I need to know how I can share my ideas or even make my own pc games.... Any suggestions?

Answer
There are three possible ways to get a game made from your idea:
1. Get in touch with a heavy hitter in the game making industry and convince him or her that your game is worthwhile. He or she will then set the wheels in motion for your idea to be bought and developed. (This is highly unlikely although it has happened on rare occasions) Companies will occasionally buy video game ideas and keep them for future potential projects.
2. Get in touch with independent developers with game design skills and get them to come on board with your idea. You have the ability to allow them to patch together their time in developing your game. Gamedev.net is a good place to network and find people for this endeavor.
3. Spearhead the development yourself. Learn some basic game making skills and put together a group of people willing to spend time (and money) on your game. You become the evangelist for the game and the Project Manager. (This is the best option if you want to succeed and it answers the question of who is going to do all the work - You!)

Protecting your Idea

You probably have questions about your idea and how to protect it from being stolen. Well, I guess this is a possibility and maybe it has happened but it is unlikely. It goes back to the fact that it takes thousands of hours to take a game from idea to actual game and the number of unique ideas is relatively unlimited but here are some things you can do to get started in protecting yourself.

The Problem of Copyrighting Ideas

Ideas cannot be copyrighted! It sounds funny but itâs true. You can research this on the official government copyright website. So, just having an idea means you have very little. If you draw pictures of your game and hopefully develop your idea into a game you can get copyright for those things. In any case here is some help with protecting yourself.

Send yourself a letter!

Put together an exhaustive package of materials about your idea. Include a summary, pictures, drawings and anything else that will describe your idea then seal it in an envelope and mail it to yourself registered mail. When you receive it you sign for it but do not open it. Leave it sealed. This gives you an amount of legal protection that establishes a time line for your idea.

NDA's (Non Disclosure Agreements)

A Non disclosure agreement is a legal contract between two parties. In this case it is between you and the person you want to reveal your idea to. It can be a useful tool that will help you protect your rights. Generally it outlines the confidentiality of your idea and prohibits the other party from using the idea. If you are serious about your idea you should do some research on NDA's and even speak with a lawyer about them. Outside of the United States these agreements are often referred to as Confidentiality Agreements and sometimes they are referred to as Secrecy agreements or Confidential Disclosures (CD's).

Okay letâs get started with something solid you can do
No matter which of the three paths you want to travel down there are some things that you can do to get your idea rolling on its path toward becoming a real video game.

1.Write out a very extensive overview of the game. Make it as detailed as possible. And put this in the package you mail to yourself!
2.Draw up pictures and artwork of game scenes, characters, maps and anything else that is unique about the game. In effect you are creating a library of images in the game. Put this in your package too!
3.Write up an executive summary - This is a one or two page summary of the game idea and it outlines the things that make it unique. This is your introduction to people in the gaming industry and it is the first thing you can give them so they get a grasp of your idea (of course you would get an NDA first!)
4.Start your research into the game industry. Hang around forums where developers and game makers chat and start learning about what it takes to make a game. You can make some good contacts and there are hordes of people willing to give you solid advice and some help with your dream. gamedev.net is a great place to start
5.Start learning how to make a video game! It is totally possible for a person with average computer skills to develop a single level of a game or a portion of a game. This can be used as a calling card and example for what the game would be about.

PC Game Cards?

Vampire Br

I was wondering if someone could explain about PC game cards for me. My Main question is:

1: Should I delete some other games on my computer like 'Hoyle Card Games', 'Bejeweled', or 'Wheel of Fortune', if would stop freezing during 'Fable: The Lost Chapters', or maybe even 'Warcraft' which I can't play at all.
Guess nobody knows nothing about computers
Okay, Jim H. (as I believe you name is), if you want points then don't answer question unless you are actually useful to that someone. Otherwise you are just a pain in the a** . Plain and simple. And Kasey C, thanks for much more useful information, mainly about existing games. It helps more when people actually answers.

Answer
The problem is you are asking several different questions.

"PC Game Cards" means something completely different from "card games" or whatever other games you mentioned later. Thus, mentioning it seems to serve no purpose other than to confuse the issue.

Deleting existing games will not help other games run better, unless you are VERY VERY short on hard drive space.

I'm afraid you'll need some basic PC orientation before you can formulate proper questions regarding your PC problems.

Can you make a decent gaming computer and setup with just $500?

Daniel

Hello everyone, I'm in a bit of a predicament..
My friend would like me to build him a gaming computer using only $500.
He lacks all of the basic required parts, such as: monitor, case, keyboard+mouse, and headset; all of these parts would come out of the $500 as well as shipping.
I would prefer if all of the parts came from Newegg if possible.

Thank you for your time
(I will select a best answer)
Update1 - I've been told that the budget could go to about 600-650. The monitor and headset will no longer be a problem.
Update2 - Apparently back down to the $500 mark, the monitor and headset still will no longer be a problem. ~ Sorry for confusion

Answer
Tell him it's impossible.

A decent monitor would be at least 100-150, gaming keyboard/mouse at least 80 and headset at least 30. That means at least 200-250 bucks just for peripherals

Then, for a case at least 50.
Decent motherboard, 70-200.
Processor, 100.
Graphics card for gaming, at least 120-200.
8 gigs of decent RAM, I'd say 50.
500-600w power supply, 50-70.
500gb hard drive, 60-80.

Honestly, it's impossible to build a full-fledged gaming PC with all required parts (keyboard/mouse, headset, monitor) and decent performance (med-high most to all games) for under $500.

That's the truth, and I wouldn't bother trying and just making a lopsided machine.

If he can pay 800, that's a different story.

Good luck! If your friend can't accept the fact he needs to pay more, make him understand. It's not your problem, and you should know that.

**I will update this within the hour with the best PC you can build for what your friend can pay including peripherals, it might not be pretty but I'll see**

EDIT:
Best build for under $500.

Windows 7: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986
OR
Windows 8 (much faster performance in general, I'd recommend it for this build): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832416550

Total comes out to around 500 bucks. Obviously, it's not ideal since there's an integrated graphics card, although it's a top-notch integrated one. If he has a 1080p screen he should tone it down to 720p for the best performance on games.

If you can spend a WEE bit more, get this motherboard instead: BIOSTAR A880GZ AM3+ AMD 880G HDMI SATA 6Gb/s Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
(you'll have to look it up on Newegg, I can't include over 10 links here)

This processor:
AMD Athlon II X4 640 Propus 3.0GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor ADX640WFGMBOX (you'll have to look it up on Newegg, I can't include over 10 links here)

This graphics card:
HIS iCooler H775FS2G Radeon HD 7750 2GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card
(you'll have to look it up on Newegg, I can't include over 10 links here)

The added parts which will go a bit above 500 will make a huge difference.

EDIT 2: Just saw your update. Sadly, this won't make a change much. Really sorry - the original build I had was without the screen for under $500, and I just was about to add it.

I really wish you good luck with this build. It's too bad there's no more money to be spent - for even another 100 dollars the build could be made so much better.

Good luck with this, Daniel!

P.S. I can't recommend the other guy's build, sadly, because the processor will severely bottleneck the rest of the system in many games, since so many games are processor-intensive these days.

Best sound setup on pc for under 500 dollars?

Anybody know headphones that are good for gaming and music?

UnXpected_

But it has to have a pull out microphone. I tried ps3 headphones like this where u can pull the mic out. But I don't like it cause the headphones are uncomfortably big so here's the kind I want

-pull out mic
-small
-comfortable
-under 200
-good with iPod

Answer
headsets (those headphones with mics) are mostly all horrible.

this will be helpful. seriously read the entire thing if you can, it has improved my gaming experience tremendously. (both for immersion and competitive play)
http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/mad-lust-envys-headphone-gaming-guide-updated-4-12-2012-akg-q701-added

my suggestion is buy a cheap clip on mic (for like 5 bucks), the audio technica ad700, and the astro mixamp, which utilizes dolby headphones(converts 5.1+ channels into stereo specifically for headphones). These three should cost just a little over 200 combined. it will sound like the video on the link i provided at the 1:08 minute marker.
Reviews of headphones are also on that page. If you're interested in other headphones, make sure you get one with a good soundstage (like the audio technica ad700) to improve your gaming exprience.

if you really like headsets, then this is the best i can think of.
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-PC-360-Headset-Gaming/dp/B003DA4D2U
theres a review on the first link i provided. You could get the lesser models since its 200ish.

Answer
Computer #2 is the winner for gaming.

Overall the Core i5 3570K is the more powerful CPU, but that really isn't a factor because both CPUs are strong enough for high-end gaming- neither will be a bottleneck for high-end graphics cards. And it's the graphics card that's most important in gaming builds. In most titles roughly 70% of your in-game fps are determined by your GPU model, not your CPU. And that's where there's a huge disparity- the GTX 770 is even better than the GTX 680!

For video editing it's about a wash- the FX-8350 has more cores which is very beneficial for editing software like Sony Vegas, but the i5 3570K has stronger per-core performance and Intel's quick sync feature which greatly improves transcoding. Anyway they trade off- in some editing tasks the FX--8350 wins, in others the i5 3570K wins. Both are capable, arguably a slight edge to the Core i5. But on the gaming side it's a mismatch because of the GPUs.

Is My Graphics Card Bad (2013)?

Jess

I have a Fujitsu laptop that's almost 2 years old. I can't play many online video games that I would like to (such as Tera), and even the ones I can play lag horribly unless I have the graphics on the lowest settings. I want to know If I should give up hope on this laptop and save for a new one, or if I can maybe fix it... With something else? o-o

Added Note: I can run Tera, but it must be on the lowest graphic settings and it still lags a bit with that.

My card is: Intel(r) graphics media accelerator HD
Memory size for the card is 1722MB

Specification is: Intel(R) Core i5 CPU M 480 @ 2.67GHz

Please and thank you ^^

Answer
Thomas Edison has a better graphics card than you buddy. Your best bet is saving up for a nice new gaming PC. Go about 600 dollars on it, and I promise you, you can play any game on Low-Med graphics. Newegg.com bro.

Good for first gaming pc build?

wildchick

I posted my original gaming build last night, but after getting some good input this is the new list I've come up with. Just wanted to know if it was a good set up for a first time pc builder and good for running a game like Star Wars: The Old Republic and web surfing. In the future I might be doing video editing, but nothing extremely advanced. All help is wonderful!

This is my budget: $500 I would love to put more towards a pc but I really can't so if you know of parts that are equal value but better I would love to know of them. Or if I needed to put more money towards a specific part while sacraficing for another that would be fine.

Thanks for the help :D

Answer
Very nice build, but i'd upgrade the graphics card to HD 6770/6850. This is a good gaming computer for slightly under $600. just in case you need to see the other possible configs.

Q. looking for a two monitor gaming pc with nvidia grafix card,

i need the cheapest seller,

needs to be able to run battle field 2142 and lost planet with no lag on default settings
intel based, cour 2 duo is required

Answer
Try http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Athlon64_AM2_SLI_Custom_Build_Configurator ... This is their AMD Configurator. You should be able to get a decent build (depending on the amount of RAM you'd like to run BF2142). You can snag a PC just as cheap these days at builders as you can making your own, almost.

Gaming Pc Purchase Help?

Alex

I want to buy a gaming pc. I have heard bad things about Cyberpowerpc but I just can't afford to buy from other sellers because it's just too expensive. How hard is it to build yourself? Should I? The pc I would like is 1500 dollars
The computer I've been looking at for a few months is the
Gamer Infinity 8800 Pro(1500$ with monitor)

I wouldn't know if I need a pc this good anyways. I like games like Company of Heroes, Half-Life's, Crysis, Fury, FEAR, Battlefield 2/2142/Bad Company. Anybody know of a cheaper computer that will run games like these well?

My pc now is about 8-10 yrs old and is horrible for gaming. It has been upgraded yrs b4 w/ geforce 6200 and about 500mb ram

What should I do to end up with a cheaper gaming pc(including monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc) while still able to play such games.
A decently large hard drive would be nice
I do want a good tower case to upgrade in the future
Coolermaster Stacker 830 looked great but it may be overkill

Windows xp media

Answer
http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Athlon64_AM2_SLI_Custom_Build_Configurator

I've heard good and bad things about CyberPower PC ... I plan on purchasing a PC in about a month because my gaming rig just died a week ago.

The link above is what configuration I'm going to use, with Dual SLI and 2G RAM. Depending if I add a few more things, which I don't really need, my PC configuration will run me between $600 - $700.

As for my monitor, I'm on a 21' Insignia CRT ... LCD prices have come down and the prices are still coming down on a weekly basis. I'll be picking up an 21' LCd in a few more months when the prices hit rock bottom.

Would you recommend downloading PC games from Amazon?

Kelsey

I have been looking at Sims 3 games on Amazon, and I noticed that all of the PC downloads are usually much cheaper than used copies of the games. Have any of you ever downloaded games from Amazon? If so, how does it work? Were there any problems? Would you recommend it? Thanks so much for any help!

Answer
Personally i have downloaded about 15 games from amazon with no problems.

Basically when you buy amazon games, it takes you to a list of games you have purchased from amazon, where it has a link to download each game and lists the CD key for each game.

After downloaded you wont have to deal with the download page for that game again until you have a new PC you want it on or you bought another game on amazon.

It works really well, never had a single issue with it.

Some games downloaded from amazon link to steam after/during install.

Pc liquid cooling maintenace quiestions?

Sergio Hue

im thinking about getting a pc from cyberpower, which has liquid cooling.

When i recieve this will the tubes be filled already? what fluid do i use? will i ever need to get more fluid? from where? Do i nee to change the whole water cooling system every year? the tubes? bolts?

where do i get the things that i would need if i need. is it safe? what if it breaks at kills my computer?

please answer everything
Any help would be great!

Answer
No liquid cooling has come a long way. High quality fluid now lasts 2-3 years. Fluid can be ordered from coolance.com for about $20. The fluid is called propeleyne qlycol, which is NON-CONDUCTIVE. However the presence of color or dye acts as an electrolyte, which causes it to BECOME CONDUCTIVE. Obviously a conductive fluid does have the potential to destroy a system, but generally speaking the failure will be in pump. Fluid will not flow, but temperature sensors will shutdown the system before any real damage is done.

You will not need to replace tubes, etc unless they become damaged somehow. As long as certain metals are not mixed damage will not occur before the system is outdated.

I have no idea if they ship the computer with the tubes filled or not. If not filling is relatively easy. Disconnect the 24pin mobo power cable. Fill the resoviour with liquid and jump the power supply. As the liquid fills the tubes, add more until the level stop decreasing. Then let the air out. Once the air is out, un-jump the power supply and reconnect the cable to the motherboard and powerup.

If you are into gaming and computing you should really consider building you own computer. You can get exactly what you want, make look the way you want, and ITS A LOT CHEAPER. Check out newegg.com. Home computer building has become a lot easier in the last few years and there are great tutorials everywhere.

Answer
If heavy overclocking is to be done, which is the case here, liquid cooling is NECESSARY. Air cooling may be sufficient to achieve stability, but liquid cooling will dramatically increase the life of the components.

can someone help me build a gaming desktop pc for under $1000?

Eric Opper

I know most of the parts of a computer but i dont trust myself when it comes to picking out all the parts i need to build my own gaming pc. I am on a 1000 dollar budget but want a great gaming pc that can also help speed up my architecture programs im running.

I want intel i7 quad core processor(hopefully 3.0 but can go with 2.8),
atleast 1 GB nvidia or AMD video memory,
8 or 12 GB RAM
and a great cooling system so my system never overheats or anything.
a cover that allows massive cooling

these are just specs that i'd like to have but if my expectations are too high or not high enough then i trust your judgement! i dont know anything about motherboards or cooling systems or covers. please email me at eao2012@gmail.com if you have questions! thanks!
hmm ok well what would it cost then for the type of computer i want? i am not limited to 1000 but dont want 1500 or up

Answer
$1000 is too high budget!!
Best priced gaming machine.

Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.4GHz for $189
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727
This is the best gaming processor and the highest AMD processor. It
beats the lowest Core i7 processor in gaming performance and other
benchmarks. The lowest Core i7 processor is the Core i7 920 2.66GHz
which costs $288. So this processor is $100 lesser than Core i7 920,
but beats it in gaming benchmarks and Compression and Decompession
speeds, etc.. The Core i7 is better in movie encoding and stuff.
And the stock clock speed of the Phenom II X4 is 3.4GHz whereas the
Core i7 is 2.66GHz. The AMD Phenom II X4 965 is a black edition
processor so it has unlocked CPU Multiplier, so it overclocks like
heaven. The AMD can reach 4.2GHz speeds easily due to this, and still
remain stable and the temperature under 60C which is normal. The Core
i7 920 cannot overclock that much. It can go to 3.4GHz but you have to
increase the voltage to the processor and use water cooling blocks to
make it stable. This is dangerous to the processor. Just see the
customer review of the Phenom II X4 processor in that newegg page.
But the Core i7 processors which cost above $400, dont have any match
now. But soon AMD is bringing in mass market 6 core processor which
would be cheaper than those Core i7 4 core processors.

Motherboard:
ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO AM3 AMD 785G Motherboard for $85
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131398
This is AM3 socket motherboard for AMD processors and supports DDR3
RAMs upto 8GB.

If you go for the Core i7 processors then the similar motherboard
range starts from $189. Huge Saving!
And the main advantage of getting the AMD processor and motherboard is
due to its socket AM3 which is future proof. The Intels change their
socket with every new processor series so that they can sell more
motherboards with each upgrade. Like Core i7 has LGA 1366 whereas
Core2Duo has LGA 775. So in the future if any new processor comes and
you want to upgrade to it, then you have to throw this costly
motherboard and buy a new one for that processor.
But all future AMD processors are going to remain AM3 socket, so this
motherboard will work even if you upgrade to any new processor from
AMD(6 core, 8 core, 10 core whatever).
AMD and Intel are both launching their 6 core processors, the Intel
Core i9 and the AMD Hexacore. But the Core i9 socket will be different
from Core i7. Whereas the AMD processor will still be AM3.
So you tension of future upgrading is minimized.

RAM:
OCZ Gold Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 RAMs for $79
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227346

This motherboard for AMD has 4 RAM slots. These are 2Gb x 2 RAMs
and will take two slots. Presently no application or game in the world
requires more than 3GB. So 4Gb is more than enough. Adding more RAM is
wastage as it wont be used. When you will really require more RAM i.e
after 3 - 4 years then add in another 4GB.
Single 4GB RAMs are costing hell.

Graphics Card:
HIS H577FM1GD Radeon HD 5770 DirectX 11 support for $162
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161317
Future Proof Next-Gen gaming!!

What about NVIDIA you ask ? In case you didn't notice, at the green
side NVIDIA right now is on a DirectX 11 bashing marketing program.
Their program goes like this: DX11 games won't arrive until 2010 so
why purchase a DX11 card ? Well, next year when a lot of games will
start supporting DX11, you can rest assured that your card is
compatible and that you are not stuck with an outdated DX10.0 class
product. For your future game path, DX11 is an upgrade train you do
not want to miss out on. Why is NVIDIA doing this ? Well, they just do
not have their DX11 class products ready and selling on the market.

Power Supply:
OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ500MXSP 500W for $40
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341016

Computer Case:
COOLER MASTER Storm Scout SGC-2000-KKN1-GP for $80
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119196
Excellent cooling!

Monitor:
Samsung 24" for $209
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001338

Keyboard and mice: $30
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823126041

UPS:
APC 550VA for $66
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16842101343

Total $936

Picking games for YouTube channel?

Elizabeth

Okay, so a friend and I are going to start a Youtube channel where we commentate on games. We already have some games picked, but I'm worried about the legal obligations. How do you make sure that a certain game is fine to play and post to YouTube? Thanks.

Answer
You can post gameplay of any game you'd like, as each video is different and no 2 are the same. To find it out, you can look on the games Terms of Service to make sure. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Also, can we do a video together sometime? I have these games: Minecraft, Starcraft 2, CoD BO2(PC), various other games.

Console vs pc gaming for YouTube?

SkoogyDoo

I want to do a gaming channel. But not one area like most channels. I wanna be as broad as possible to cover all kinds of gaming. So I was thinking console. Heres why. I love pc no doubt. It has a lot better everything. But for me console has this. Multiplayer ease. I can hook up my headset and talknto my friends no hassle. It plays all console games so no viruses and its reliable. I love pcs but im not majorly pc savy if I get a major virus im screwed. I just want your opinions on what has more potential. Like whatbshould I do?

Is This Gaming Pc Worth Buying?

Daniil

I was looking through Amazon and I saw the Gaming Desktop ( CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA250 AMD FX-4100 Gaming Desktop PC ) I'm thinking of getting it, but I'm not good at picking Pc because i don't know what parts are good so if you guys could tell me if the gaming pc is worth the money. If not could you tell me a gaming pc desktop all ready to play. It has to be around $500-$600. Thanks

Answer
Personally, I would not buy that. For a cheap gaming computer you'll pretty much always go wrong. My best suggestion would be that you build one yourself. It's not that hard and it's a good thing to do since you save about 100 dollars+ usually.

Try to aim for a AMD FX 4300 at the least or even an AMD A10 6800K, which is an APU. The recent APU's from AMD are great for light gaming on medium setting, sometimes even high and their price-performance ratio is great.

These parts should be compatible from what I see.

You can play quite a few games on high/ultra on low resolutions on this and you can overclock it pretty well I hear.

Also I put the 7750 there so you can run it on crossfire which is why you can play games on pretty good settings.
