Ok so im 13 and i got advice from people saying that for 500 dollars if i wanted a kick ass gaming pc i should build my own. So i did that and it costed around 570 dollars, but for some reason it doesn't work. I know i probably messed up putting it together and i don't know what to do. Any ideas?

Would the Playstation 4 and Xbox 720 beat the latest gaming hardware?

Golden

I heard rumours that if you have a gaming PC that cost $5,500 dollars it still won't be able to beat the PS4 and Xbox 720 specs, is this true? Please tell me because I am really worried( I am a PC gamer ) :(

Answer
This is totally false.

The ps4 is like last years PC if you look at its specs.

And 720 not announced will have similar features.
So don't worry with a 5500 dollar PC you can get a NVIDIA Titan graphics card + the best of the best in technology and specs which can last for 6-7 years

Enjoy Gaming

Are these good gaming pc specs for what my son wants?

best gaming pc may 2013 on ... Computers - Gaming & Entertainment News, Reviews, Interviews
best gaming pc may 2013 image

Christel

I was hoping someone could shed some light on if these gaming pc specs would be good enough for what my son wants to do with it. He's asked for a gaming pc for his graduation gift but we're not exactly made of money so I asked him for a few details on what he hopes to do with his PC gaming wise! (Yes, I have -some- knowledge of gaming and gaming rigs but not much!)

Now he wants to be able to play games such as Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, World of Warcraft, Mass Effect 3, Guild Wars 2 and most of all the upcoming Elder Scrolls Online game on high settings with a smooth framerate. We've spotted a reasonably priced PC that is custom built for 400-500 with the following specs:

AMD FX4100 Quad Core 4x3.6GHz
Asus Motherboard
500GB HDD
8GB DDR3 (1333 MHz)
GeForce GT630 (1024MB DDR3-VGA-DVI-HDMI-DirectX 11)
Windows7 Home Premium 64Bit

My question is of course... will this be sufficient for what he wants? Any reply from those knowledgeable about this kind of stuff would be very much appreciated!

Answer
Yes, it's a reasonable gaming PC, enough to play Skyrim and such games at high detail and a smooth framerate.

The video card is the most important piece when building a gaming PC, and this computer's video card isn't exactly high end (it being a GeForce GT630, a budget video card), but it will be enough to play games such as Skyrim, Modern Warfare 3 and other such games at high detail. Although I find a 500 GB hard-drive more than enough, some people might want a larger 1 TB ( which is 1000 GB) hard drive.

Again, a 500 GB hard drive has no say on how fast he can play games, just the amount of data (such as games, music and videos) he can store in the computer at any given time. I say buy it, but only if you're sure the price is fair.

The video card might be a problem in the near future, (games in 2013 and 2014 will get more resource-intensive) But the video card may be upgraded if absolutely necessary with a newer one for future gaming. Other than that, it looks good.

Most reliable laptop brands: the results

Apple tops the list, as might be expected from such a premium PC builder. Apple products are far from cheap, but they do offer a quality experience. Runner up Dell has a very different business model. It, like other high-ranking brands HP and Asus, operates as a volume laptop maker, selling many thousands of laptops every week. We would expect to see them, and Lenovo, high up in our list because they sell so many PCs: but their higher ranking suggests a lot of satisfied customers.

Apple: 19%
Dell: 12%
Asus: 11%
HP: 11%
Acer: 9%
Lenovo: 9%
Toshiba: 9%
Samsung: 7%
Sony: 6%
Alienware: 3%
Fujitsu: 1%
MSI: 1%
Panasonic: 1%

Ben

During the summer of 2013 I am thinking about spending £1000 on a gaming PC, so I need to know what company makes good 'solid' PC's that do not break instantly and are 'trusted'.

Thanks

Answer
A grand will get you top spec. but you will want to self build, you'll get all the parts you want and quite possibly cheaper than a prebuilt system.

I recently did a build for someone (details are on my email account) which was on a £700 budget,

i5-3570k
asrock z77 extreme4
8gb ram
1tb hdd
WiFi card
OCZ 600w PSU.
7850 Radeon HD graphics.
120gb sandisk extreme SSD.

this came in at 700, so for 1k, you can up the graphics card to top spec and still be in budget...

prices change and tech is renewed quite often so in 6months there will be an even better spec available.

(If you couldn't tell already it is obviously for a gaming pc
And if you can answer; Is a sound card necessary?)

Answer
take my word, i build my PC, and learn from my mistakes.
if you are patient, then you should wait 2 month for the Next gen Intel Core i, its called Haswell
with that said it will support Z87 which is much better than Z77 for the current Intel CPU's
and if you want your PC now, and cant wait that much you should get a Mother Board that has Z77 in it, and before buying it you have to make sure that they are all compatible with each other especially CPU, RAM, and Mobo
and my Gigabyte Mother Board is NOT good and you will NOT get BIOS updates when you buy it, i do NOT recommend it, with that said i haven't use Asus AsRock so i dont know their Pros & Cons
but i recommend an SSD instead of that HDD, and make sure that everything you buy is designed for Windows 8, because its a gaming PC and the next version od DirecX 11.1 is only for Windows 8, so for the maximum power you should add an SSD and Windows 8 for your new PC if you cant afford it then buy the SSD another time but the Windows 8 is a must.

anyways here is a link to recommend 4 Motherboards for you, and you do NOT need a sound card at all
if you didnt buy from the link make sure the motherboard you buy has Z77

Any PC games like tomb raider 2013 with a female protagonist ?

Mia

I really loved the game. I also liked Remember me.

Answer
It's a good request, and hard to show you, a survivor game with a female protagonists is not much usual, even in this "age of innovation"... But Let's go:
*Silent Hill 3 (survival-horror) - starring Hather Mason, the daughter of the the first protagonist of the franchise, Harry Mason
*The Longest Journey (adventure) - Starring April Ryan
*Resident Evil 3 (survival horror) - Starring Jill Valentine
*Portal (puzzle platformer) - Starring Chell
I'm sorry, dunno many games with these requirements, i also trought in Bayonetta too, but this game is for PS3 and Xbox 360 sadly. But these are one the best, and Tomb Raider is the greatest playable woman and protagonist of the all time, Lara Croft FTW ;)
I think i not helped you so much, but this is all, enjoy it!

JomyeL

I want a gaming PC but I want to get a cheap one from BestBuy.
Do you think their Gaming PC will be on sale?

Answer
Well I used to work there and I don't necessarily remember the gaming PC being on sale on black Friday but it very well could be. Your best bet is to watch the ads over the next couple of months and if it goes on sale, buy it. If it doesn't buy it anyway; they'll still match it if it goes on sale over the next 14 days there or at any other local retailer. Just keep a close eye on the weekly ads and you should be able to get one at a pretty good price.

Where should I look if I wanted a good gaming PC?

Matt Mccul

If in the future I wanted a good gaming PC, where should I look?

Answer
It depends, if you're building it yourself, then there are various websites where you can buy parts individually (if you live in the United States):

http://www.newegg.com/ - Generally the most trusted. It's the 2nd biggest online only retailer (second to Amazon) and they have excellent service. Very widely used.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/ - These guys are the second biggest PC component retailer (second to Newegg). It's ran by the owners of CompUSA and CircuitCity.

http://us.ncix.com/ - They've got good deals and their service is good.

Retail stores:
Fry's Electronics (west & midwest U.S)
Micro Center (east coast)

That there is no real central community of an website you can go to for gamers alike around the world. Id recommend this upcoming website www.PlayBlab.com, heard some good news prior to its launchâ¦and read some articles about it, I am excited about itâ¦

I think they will discuss all pure gaming related questions, by the actual gamers like us that are out there. Id definitely recommend it as a source for the future use, I hope even to catch you guys thereâ¦

What is the best onscreen capture software for 3d PC games?

lysa

is it Fraps? Snagit? Camtasia? or is there something better (please specify)?

I've tried Camtasia has difficulties recording 3d games it gets choppy (maybe less than 10FPS) most of the time and also flickers.

Fraps, i think it's better than camtasia, but the Files are so large (1-2GB for a 4-5 minute duration).
and it also gets down to below 10FPS but not more frequent than Camtasia.

I haven't tried Snagit but it's from Techsmith so i'm guessing it records like Camtasia.

Is there any better recorder out there?
Or of it's Fraps, how do i change the settings so that the recording will produce smaller files?

Thanks.

Answer
Take Fraps. Fraps is great for recording games, and most of the time gives very reliable framerates. It's waaaaay less heavy on your machine than camtasia, and thus will get you less lower framerates and lag. If you're having low framerates in Fraps, try rebooting your computer to clear as many processes and ram as you can, or try looking for the setting to see if its alright.

For your file size problem, since you've recorded with Camtasia, im pretty sure you'll have the Camtasia studio too, since the recorder is an add-on to that.
Take your fraps-file, put it into camtasia, and produce it as an mp4 or an Avi. Your file-size will be way smaller and you can then delete your original oversized recording :-).

Joyce

I've been considering purchasing a gaming pc, as I've been gaming a lot more than I used to and found a pretty nice monitor just a little bit smaller than the average TV.

My laptop's obviously not really the best to play games on.

I'd like the games (stuff like Mass Effect, Assassins Creed, Bioshock, etc) to look good and work smoothly. That's all.

Any ideas? Minimum requirements?

Answer
I suggest you CybertronPC, as you have said that you need a gaming PC to play games like Mass Effect, Assassins Creed and Bioshock. This PC is well built for game processing, it has 3.6 GHz quad-core of AMD, 8GB DDR3 SDRAM, 500 GB hard drive and 1 GB video card of AMD radeon.

So as far as gaming is concern it is a great machine to play high graphic games and the recommended specifications of the games you mentioned are lower than CybertronPC's this model. Here you can find actual user review of this gaming machine:

I am looking to buy a gaming pc but I also want to spend as little money as possible on it. I want to know what the least amount of money I can spend would be to be able to buy or at least build a computer that will play at least RPGs even if I have to lower the settings a bit. I hate not being able to play anything and all that i am looking to do is to change that so I can play most things on low settings.

Answer
OK, the best cheap option is upgrading a low-cost starting PC with a better graphics card.

So I recommend starting with this:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dell+-+Inspiron+Desktop+-+4GB+Memory+-+500GB+Hard+Drive/4673045.p?id=1218505323144&skuId=4673045

Then adding this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131441

That can play most things on medium settings, some easier games on high.

You could go with a cheaper graphics card like the Radeon HD 6450 but you'd get 50% slower performance and only save $15, so I don't recommend that.

What is the best gaming desktop I can buy?

Austin

I have around $800 to spend. I want to be able to play Crysis 3 and Far Cry 3 on maximum graphics. Please list the specs I need. I'm not lazy i just don't know anything about computers. I've been researching for days on what computer to get. Please help! Thanks!

Answer
The one you build yourself.....
NEVER buy a gaming computer.

Yahoo answers will only allow up to 10 links, so I have to leave out the not so important components. Just copy paste in the search field on Newegg to find them, I will give the full name but no link for those.

BEST BUDGET GAMING DESKTOP PC BUILD FOR THE MONEY (under $750.00USD for the tower only)
Monitor, keyboard and mouse can add from $175 to over $500, depending on size and model you want.
All prices are in $USD and in the USA, current as of December 2012 and they might be slightly different one way or the other by now.
Also, some shipping charges may apply to some of the items.
Add your state sales tax if you reside in NJ, CA or TN - that's where Newegg has warehouses.
Look for similar parts on Amazon, Tiger Direct, etc if you want to avoid paying Uncle Sam.

Is it possible to build a gaming pc for under a grand?

Is it possible to build a gaming pc for under a grand? This computer will be used from graphic design/multimedia (flash video creation, photoshop, etc.) It will also be playing games such as WoW, Portal 2, and maybe even Crysis 2. Any recommendation on how this could be done would be greatly appreciated. If you believe the system I'm looking for will cost over 1,000 please explain why. And thank you!

Answer
Yes, It is, IF you choose the right spec and build it your self. And If by "under a grand" you mean under 1000 $, here's my recommendation :

AMD Phenom II X4 955 3,2 ghz
MoBo Biostar TA890GXB
HDD 1TB WD
RAM DDR3 2x2 GB
XFX HD6850 GPU
PSU CORSAIR pure 600W

In total, it's about 8.2 million rupiahs....roughly US$950, includes the chassis, DVD Drive, logitech Mouse+Keyboard & logitech Speaker. US$1070 with windows 7 home premium. (Excluding the Monitor)

Yeah maybe that price is a bit...high, but you'll be able to play heavy games like crysis 2 on full HD and high settings without lags or something like that.

Also, these I got these price from a local store here in Indonesia. You might be able to find cheaper ones online, or where you live.

How much would it cost to put together a gaming pc?

Jerry

I want to get a nice gaming pc, but an alienware computer is out of the question at their prices... Can anyone help me find information on how to put together a solid gaming pc of my own? Help such as what parts I'm going to need, how much they would cost, a rough estimate of how much the sum of the parts would be. I'm looking to play games such as SC2 and WoW. Thanks!

Answer
Well, a decent gaming PC costs thousands of bucks, but still i am giving you list of components you can ask at your local shops. This is the best gaming PC under $600.

All left is case and monitor which can you can according to your own need, a cool looking cabinet and a 20" or 24" monitor whichever comes in your budget.

If you total all except monitor and case, it will be in your budget, these components are important, ask their prices in your local bazaar or market.

Call of Duty contract with Microsoft ending?

So for black ops 2, the new revolution map pack comes out Jan. 29th. I saw it said on Xbox live first but I thought the contract with Microsoft ended at the end of 2012. I thought that's why ps3 hasn't gotten nuketown zombies yet and Xbox has. But since this is coming in 2013 shouldn't ps3, Xbox, and pc come out at the same time? Did Microsoft renew the contract?

Answer
since this game was released in 2012 even if the contract for time limited exclusives ended Microsoft will sill have exclusives for all dlc the game gets , and microsoft is in talks to extend their exclusivity so nothing will change while the lawyers are still negotiating anyway .
They have not renewed the contract for time limited exclusivity yet but it will not matter for a game that was included in the old contract anyway , the terms I understood included the games release date not the dlc release dates .

The only way that activison won't renew is if they can't get their asking price from Microsoft or if another company like Sony or Nintendo steps up and offers a better deal so I doubt it will not be renewed , but there is actually a good thing about having a 30 day wait , if there is any glitches in the dlc that are game breaking they get patched before the ps3 release so only xbox360 players get bad dlc .

Answer
It's great for most games up to the Skyrim/Arma II level. Your performance comes down to the graphics card, since everything else is top notch.

The Radeon HD 7850 can play Battlefield 3 on high settings smoothly, or ultra with a few details turned down (like FXAA instead of MSAA). But to play BF3 on ultra at 1080p without having to reduce any details, the 7850 isn't enough. You need to go a step higher, to the Radeon HD 7870 or GeForce GTX 660. With either of those you could run anything on ultra/max settings except Crysis 3, which would run fine on high settings.

If you can spend $250 on your GPU, the best deal currently is the Radeon HD 7870 LE (otherwise known as the PCS+ Myst Edition or Jokercard), which is a really a 7900 series card in 7800 series clothing. It performs on-par with $300 models like the GeForce GTX 660 Ti and Radeon HD 7950.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131484

Performance:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/tahiti-le-7870-7930-benchmark,3401-3.html
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Club_3D/HD_7870_jokerCard_Tahiti_LE/8.html

But even $300 cards aren't enough to max out Crysis 3. The recommended level cards to play Crysis 3 on ultra are the GTX 680 and Radeon HD 7970. So Crysis 3 is fundamentally in a different class from any other game in existence.

http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/12/03/crysis-3s-system-specs/

So with a $220-$250 graphics card your computer would be good for anything up to Crysis 3, although that specific title wouldn't be running anywhere near maxed.
