I want a desktop pc for games like skyrim and call of duty, but i can't seem to find a decent one for under £350. Can anyone help?

Answer
Something like this if you can build your own and even that's £385. I can't see a way lower than that and still have even a bottom-rung gaming PC. Really, you need to start in the £450-500 range to get an decent machine.

My brother and I are trying to figure how to build a Gaming PC under 700 maybe 800 dollars as I know how to build a great PVR PC for under 450. Anyone have a clue on this as well as any websites to help him. I used a book back in 95 to teach me but he is much younger and needs to learn how to do it and the books these days are useless!!

Answer
Unfortunately, since technology changes so fast, any web sites that talk about actual products is out of date within a couple months.

Help purchasing a pre-built gaming pc for under 700 dollars?

Eric

I'm looking to purchase a gaming pc that already has a monitor with it for under 700 dollars. I want to be able to play games like assassin's creed and skyrim on medium to high settings with reasonable fps. I am not looking to build my own pc as I am a noob and do not feel comfortable messing around with a computer. I know pc experts will be pushing me to build it but i simply do not feel comfortable with it. I am looking at cyberpowerpc and could someone recommend a model they have and some modifications they would make so I could play games and have an easy instillation. I literally know nothing about pcs.

Answer
Look at this build some one can build this for you .You dont have to build it your self .

Yes, a Corei5 or i7 or even an i3 are fine for gaming. Any modern cpu will handle the computation of most games. You are more interested in the video card performance, game frame rates are 90% about the video card.

Is there any point in building a gaming PC in 2013?

Che

Hey fellas,

I was planning on building a gaming pc as it's that much better than console. But I was wondering, I know that console basically holds pc back graphically, because devs. are try to appeal moreso to the console gamers, consequently games on pc never having the 'wow' they could. So I was thinking, seeing as the next console generation is coming around will this time by next year be a better time to build a rig due to new hardware? Or do pc's now have the potential to be next generation anyway?

Thanks :)

Answer
Its already being phased out and there's already a newer generation of pcs within 3 years. I picked up the bare minimal I needed in a second hand shop and am waiting back to school sales to buy that's when the best deals are!

Nick Ander

I just bought fallout 3 for the pc today, and whenever I try to start a new game, it crashes. Could I return it to best buy?

Answer
NO. If it was an Xbox 360, PS3, or Wii game, then yes, but PC games cannot be returned because they use one-time verification codes. It is to prevent someone from installing the game and returning it because if they resell it, then the person who buys it would not be able to play, because the code is already in use.

How much cheaper are pc and laptops from china compared to australia or us.?

anonymous

I am planning on getting a gaming laptop or buying gaming pc parts from china but i want to know around how much cheaper they are in china compared to Australia and USA.

Answer
Not much cheaper at all. However, there is no sales tax in China.

People who talk about quality of computer has NO knowledge about computer whatsoever.

Dell, HP, etc. do NOT produce computers. They buy CPUs, RAM sticks, hard drives, motherboards, video cards, sound cards, tower cases, power supplies, then put them together in under 20 min. each and resell at a rip off prices. It's like you buy the hotdog, and buns, and catchup, then put them together. It doesn't matter if it's your mom or your dad put them together. The quality is the same!

It's the same companies who make these computer parts.
The only two major CPU makers are Intel and AMD.
The only two major video cards makers are Nvidia and ATI.(ATI was bought by AMD. Intel also make some onboard video but nothing high end)
Hard drive companies - Western Digital, etc.
Sound card companies - Creative Labs, etc.
Motherboard companies - Asus, Abit, etc.
etc. etc.

Whether the computer is sold in the U.S. or in China, they all contain the SAME parts from the SAME companies listed above! That's the reason why the prices aren't much different in China or in the U.S.

I don't buy completed computers. I buy parts and put them together which is EXACTLY what Dell etc. does! (they buy parts from above companies, and put them together. Like I said before, it takes only 20 min with 2 hands and a screw driver) Only difference is that I put BETTER(I don't pair up fast CPU with slow memory and onboard video to create bottlenecks like Dell does) parts in there according to my needs. In the end, with the same amount of money, I build BETTER computers than Dell can offer. OR, With the same hardware parts, I save lots of money than buying from Dell.

By the way, I've been building computers for the last eight years. ALL video cards and motherboards I bought in the U.S. have labels of "Made in China". It only means China did the production. The technology and specifications are still belong to the above companies. By the way, it also means the LARGE MAJOR portion of the profit also goes to these companies instead of Chinese manufacturers in case you think China "stole" the money.
P.S. The founders of Nvidia and ATI were both Chinese. Memory chips were also invented by Chinese. All motherboard companies are in fact Taiwanese companies, whose population are 98% Chinese, and their productions are always in mainland China. Intel chips usually are being produced in Malaysia. I also had AMD chip bought in the U.S. as "made in China".

I was looking into building a gaming pc instead of buying a next gen console since everyone online says its cheaper than a console.. Which I only seen the computer not including a monitor or keyboarding or anything go for $699 at the cheapest? Can someone tell me a rough price point of what the price would be?

Answer
A good gaming PC that can run Crysis 3 on High getting 30 FPS will cost around $500. I am linking you to a build that has everything you need. You can also always check youtube channels such as teksyndicate(razethew0rld), Adam Evans(duncan30333), NeweggTV, and LinusTechTips/NCIX

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twUM3vkm-mo It seems many people have decided to use this, as Newegg contacted him saying that they will be getting more of the parts, as they must have ran out!

What's the difference between a gaming PC and a powerful Home PC?

Queen

Apart from the fact that the Gaming PC has a better graphics card and perhaps a skin or a colourful case of the tower.

They seem the same to me.
@1st- Couldn't they be used for both? They have the same tech specs.
@wuzzi- So it's just the graphics card like I said? If they both had the same graphics card, wouldn't it be the same?

Answer
Powerful Home PC is a general usage powerful pc with a fast processor and large ran as well as a good graphics card that is as far as it goes.
But Gaming PC is a special hardcore gamer oriented PC with Powerful components to run all games at high resolutions as well as may contain special gaming mouse and keyboard ( programmable like Lachesis) and a specific fixes for gaming even vinyls foe gaming enthusiasts thus relatively expensive

Hi, I really want Portal 2, but I hate using our XBox so I want it for PC, unfortunately neither of my parents will allow me to put it on their computers, so I'm looking to buy a quality gaming PC. I need to know how much a good one will cost, as well as what brand I should buy. Any ideas? Plz help!!!

Answer
It really depends on what you plan to do with your gaming PC

Do you want GOOD, GREAT or the BEST?

A GOOD gaming PC should cost about 600$. This is enough to go on mostly high settings at a mainstream resolution. Basically a normal home computer but with a dedicated GFX card.

A GREAT gaming PC should cost about 1000$. This is what you'd get if you want to use a single monitor and play games on their highest settings at a high resolution. You'll either use 1 top-of-the-line card or 2 midrange cards working together, and you'll want a pretty good processor.

The BEST gaming PC should cost above 1500$. This is for people who use multi-monitor displays, 3D effects, or absurdly high resolutions. Prepare to purchase multiple graphics cards, at least 2 high-performance hard drives (for RAID 0), a sound card, and liquid cooling systems.

BUT REMEMBER, THIS IS ONLY FOR THE PC TOWER COST: YOU STILL NEED TO BUY A MONITOR, MOUSE, KEYBOARD, AND OPERATING SYSTEM! I personally spent 350$ on those (200$ monitor, 100$ OS, 20$ keyboard and 30$ mouse) you may also want to buy headphones, so keep those in mind too.

If all you want the PC for is to play Portal 2 and maybe some MMORPGs, then go with Good. if you plan to get into Steam and build your library, go Great. If you have too much money on your hands and want to surround yourself with the best, go...Best.

I need to look for the rest but can you guys give me an estimate of those items and the rest(case, cooling system, and all that good stuff)? Thanks

Answer
2600k with Hyper 212 CPU fan and HS for good overclocks 350$
GTX 590 650$
CM HAF 912 75$
RAM Corsair Vengeance 8GB 40$
H.D.D 1TB 100$
SSD Kingston SSD 64GB now for the Operating System 90$
asus maximus iv gene-z 1155 mobo 170$
Corsair AX 850W psu 175$

a total of 1575$.
if u want a decent monitor, mouse and keyboard u have to add about 300$
so 1875$ for a complete gaming PC

I am planning on building my own gaming pc to handle games like Skyrim and Far Cry 3 on ultra or high settings. So far these are the parts I am choosing to buy.
-AMD FX-8320 Vishera CPU
-ASRock 970 Pro3 R2.0 Motherboard
-Radeon HD 7950 Graphics Card
-G. Skill Ripjaws 8gb DDR3 1600 Ram
-Seagate Barracuda 1tb 7200RPM Hard Drive
Are the parts I have chosen compatible with each other? And if they are how would you rank the pc these parts would build on a scale of 1-10. 10 being amazing, and 1 being piece of crap. And if you guys have suggestions for me for different parts I could get instead of the ones I have chosen to make my pc more powerful without costing me a lot more please let me know. Thanks guys any advice is appreciated.

Answer
I'd rank it about an 8 or 9. It's excellent all around. Similar to my system: Core i7 2600K, 8 GB 1600 mhz RAM, Nvidia 760 GTX

A good investment under $100 would be an SSD for the OS and some other applications

A lot of the questions Iâve noticed that are being asked by the gamers on here yahoo show that there is not a real central place for us gamers to go and really find out answers of question from actual gamers out there. That there is no real central community of an website you can go to for gamers alike around the world. Id recommend this upcoming website www.PlayBlab.com, heard some good news prior to its launchâ¦and read some articles about it, I am excited about itâ¦

I think they will discuss all pure gaming related questions, by the actual gamers like us that are out there. Id definitely recommend it as a source for the future use, I hope even to catch you guys thereâ¦

I hope this helps too some extent, and am sorry I cant give a precise answer, does anyone else have some suggestions?

How could I upgrade my PC into a gaming PC?

Ok, so I'm thinking about giving my HP Pavilion dm4 notebook a slight upgrade, but the thing is, I'm not sure how. I'm thinking about changing it into a gaming PC, so this is what I need answered.

1: What type of processor should I get?
2: I have 6GB of RAM installed, should I change or should I upgrade?
3: What type of video card should I get?
4: How much does it cost?
5: Will it be easy?

If you can answer these questions, then thanks!

Answer
As the other answer said, the video card is not changeable, unless you'd like to replace the whole motherboard (in which case, you might as well get a new laptop)

So really, you have to buy a gaming laptop from the get go. And because of their non upgradeable fashion, they get outdated quick and so keeping them up to date is expensive.

I would just say build a gaming desktop, it's cheaper.

what is the average price of a moderately good PC for gaming?

Luke

i don't mean gaming PC specifically because they're pretty expensive. my computer now (HP laptop) runs games stunningly well for something that's over 3 years old. it only has 6GB of RAM and 4 processors. the graphics card is pretty outdated though. the point is, what's the average price of a desktop computer that isn't 100% specific for gaming yet can run games pretty well (modern games, i plan on playing the next gen games on PC). it can run Fallout 3 , Dead Space 2 and GTA EFLC all on max graphics with little to no lag and this is an outdated laptop.

Answer
$700.00 - and upwards.

In the short term, have you considered upgrading your graphics card - if possible?
Being a laptop it may not be!!

Another 2GB of ram would do no harm either (again if possible)

Answer
If you are looking for the absolute best, known as an enthusist board. You are going to cough up quite a chunk of change. You are looking at approximately $3600-4200 depending on how many HDD's you would want. There really is no best gaming PC out there. PC technology keeps evolving every month to something faster and smaller, along with a $$$ added to it. Here would be an example of what this month's top PC.

Motherboard-EVGA SR2 motherboard
CPU- (2) i7 965 Processors (motherboard has 2 cpu slots)
Cooling- (2) Zalmann 9900 LGA 1337 CPU coolers
RAM- 24GB of Corsair Dominator 1600mhz DDR3 RAM (motherboard has 12 slots for RAM)
Graphics Card- (2) Asus Ati 5970 ROG Radeon HD cards (4 gpu's total and 8gb RAM GDDr5)
Power-Corsair Modular 1200watt Power Supply Unit
Tower- In-Win Ironclad gaming tower
Tower Cooling- Go liquid cooled or Freon Charged
Operating System- Windows 7 Professional 64bit

That should be close enough to one of the best builds.

Answer
Processor: Intel Core i5 2500K or AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition.

Hard Drive: 500GB or 1TB

RAM: DDR3 4GB would be sufficient but 8GB wouldn't hurt.

Graphic Card: GTX 560 Ti or the GTX 570 would do.

PSU (Power Supply Unit): 700W or 650W. (PSU is needed to power up the graphic card.)

Gaming Cabinet: Any cabinet would do, but a gaming cabinet has a pretty better built in cooling system. iBall's 'Thunder Bolt' cabinet is pretty sweet.

Mother Board: If your going to get the AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition, then get the ASUS M5A88M. If going for the Intel Core i5 2500K, then get the ASUS P8H 67-MLX.

You'll need a sound card and a pair of speakers.

A UPS.

A Monitor. I recommend Dell monitors.

A mouse and a keyboard.

Can a gaming pc connect to wifi without adapter?

Rotar Rota

Can you connect a gaming pc to wifi without adapter or cords?

Answer
NO and you wouldn't want it to.

For online gaming the two things that are most important are latency and upload speed.

Latency is the delay (ping time) in milliseconds that it takes the signal to travel to the server and back. The lower the number the better, but you'll definitely want a ping time of under 150 ms or you'll have major problems.

Upload speed also plays a factor in updating your player position data to the gaming server. Slow upload speeds can cause your online game to lag. The faster the better, but at least 0.5 Mbps would be my minimum recommendation.

By nature, interference in wireless systems causes problems with smooth, consistent speeds. A direct cable connection is much better than a wireless connection.

You can experience gaming lag from a poor wireless connection between your gaming PC and the router, The best solution would be to use a wired (Ethernet) connection between your PC and the router.

If it is not feasible to run cables you have other options such as powerline network adapters You plug one in by the router and one in the room where you need access and connect them to the devices with standard Ethernet patch cables. http://isp1.us/reviews/netgear-xavb2101-powerline-adapter/

The network signals are transmitted over your existing home electrical wiring which will not be affected by wireless interference.

Good Luck...

HI I have a raedon hd 5450 1gb my pc specs:intel dual core e5700 @3gghz 2gb ddr3 ram so i was thinking of buying GTA 4 so before buying i wana know that can i run gta 4 on my pc soothly ?I don't cae whether i run it on lowest settings but the gameplay should be smooth so is it good for playing gta 4?

Answer
hi karan
even on the absolute lowest detail settings the HD5450 would struggle to acheive above 5fps so i can understand your need for a better graphics card.... however you will be able to run GTA4 at medium detail with the "Sapphire HD 6670 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card "( http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-261-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1983 ) ......this costs just £74 and uses the latest gddr5 memory which means it has higher memory clock speeds and superior core clocks ..... these include a 800mhz core clock and 1gb of gddr5 memory clocked at 4000mhz ... theres also 480 stream processors and a 128bit memory interface
in gaming this will run the latest games (including GTA4) at medium detail, however less demanding games can run at high detail ......i know this as i built 2 pc,s using the E5700 and used the HD6670 in one of those systems and i was actually very suprised on how well the radeon HD6670 ran ... and it also only requires a 350w psu and no pci-express power connectors
you can get the GDDR3 version of the HD6670 which is less expensive ( around £55 ) however the memory clocks are slower ( around 1800mhz ddr effective ) but the core clock and memory interface are the same.... theres also the same 128bit memory interface...... the best deal on this card can be found at http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-258-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1983
on the nvidia side of things theres the "GeForce GT 440 1024MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card"( http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-151-OK&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1402 ) ... this allthough cheap has some capable performance... however from a personal standpoint i wouldnt buy this card over the HD6670... but thats just me... some guys may actually say this cards better than the HD6670.... and in gaming it will run GTA4 at low to medium detail...
both these cards are good for their price however the Sapphire HD 6670 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card is your best bet..... it has excellent performance for a entry level/mid range card and more importantly it has very low power requirements.....
i hope this helps
good luck mate !

So I would like to get a new PC with 6/8 RAM and to be with Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 and the Intel i7 quad core 3.5 ghz. I want to have quite a good gaming PC but I really don't understand electronics. I heard that the mother board and etc. have to be compatible in order for the PC to work. Could you guys help me out to get a good PC for the minimal price? People tell me to check for used parts, but I really don't trust them.

How much does a good gaming computer cost?

John R

I think I'm going to play Diablo III when it comes out, where is a good computer to play it on, and how much will it cost? I know Diablo III isn't out yet, but I know it will need a lot of requirements because its a huge game.

Desktop and or laptop.

Answer
Get at least a dual-core processor (quad-core recommended), with 3 GB RAM (4-6GB recommended), SSD for OS (40GB would suffice) and 500GB of HDD (1TB if you need and/or can afford), ATI 5770/5870 or nVidia GT275/285, 22" widescreen LCD monitor and a decent logitech keyboard/mouse. To run diablo 3, which you're not going to be until perhaps 3rd quarter of 2011, you'll require a robust PC, but not necessarily an expensive one. $850 should fetch you a good gaming PC, whereas top-of-the-line models will cost more.

Answer
Within a reasonable price range:

4GB of RAM

Minimum processor - Core 2 Duo E7400
Best value/dollar processsor - Core 2 Duo E8400
Best processor - Core i7 920

Minimum video card: GeForce 9800GT
Better video card: GTX 260
High-end video card: GTX 285

Here's a list of parts chosen by Tom's Hardware for a $1250 PC, during their system builder's challenge. You could use that as your starting point and make changes from there.

How much would all my Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 things cost?

Paul

I'm in a pickle. I got BF4 for computer and then realized that I didn't like those kind of games on PC. For one, the graphics barely kept up, and I also like having the console feel. I do play PC games though, so I'm trying to keep it all my consoles organized, because I hate having to decide between X360, PS3, or PC. Therefore, I think I'm going to sell my Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 and then get the PS4 when it comes out. I believe that'd be a good choice, but I'd like to know how much I would get for selling all my stuff on Ebay. Also, not sure about hardware specs for either console, so just give me a general range and I'll clear it up later.

Xbox 360 : Console, cords, 1 controller, Kinect, GTA4, Motionsports, Gameparty in motion, Kinect Adventures, Fallout 3, Skyrim, Halo reach, Crackdown 2

Playstation 3 : Console, cords, 1 controller, burnout paradise, borderlands 2, fifa soccer 13, shaun white, warhawk, rockband 3, rockband 2, the beatles rockband, call of duty black ops, ncaa football 11, call of duty black ops 2, mirrors edge, MW2 (2 copies), Uncharted 2, Transformers, Operation Flashpoint : Dragon Rising, Tom Clancy's End War 2, and also all of the rockband equipment.

How much do you think I would get?

Answer
Consider selling at a Tag/Garage Sale. 50 to 75% of retail.
pawn shops 5-10% of retail.
GameStop trade values: http://www.gamestop.com/collection/trade...
DiscReplay: http://discreplay.com/faq.php

And, Download Games (and any game âregisteredâ with STEAM, have NO VALUE, as they are strictly licensed to ONE user thus are not transferable..
Otherwise ask for as much as feel like. If they don't want to buy, you can haggle or walk away.

Answer
Yes, absolutely. This is why I recommend that people building their first PC go with an established build, designed by someone with experience. For example, the link below has 3 different builds for gaming desktop computers at different price points of $800, $1300, & $1800. The $1800 build includes:

Part list permalink: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/fT7J
CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K ($314.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus ($19.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155 ($134.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3-1600 ($74.99 @ Newegg)
Hard Drive: Crucial M4 128GB 2.5â³ SSD ($99.99 @ B&H)
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5â³ 7200RPM ($74.99 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 670 2GB â 2-Way SLI ($404.62 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 670 2GB â 2-Way SLI ($404.62 @ NCIX US)
Case: NZXT Phantom (White) ATX Full Tower Case ($119.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair 750W ATX12V / EPS12V ($129.99 @ NCIX US)
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer ($17.98 @ Outlet PC)
Total: $1797.14

At the bottom of the build, there are also suggestions for upgrades if interested. These builds typically don't include a monitor, keyboard, or mouse like your parts list did, so you'll need to add them.

i wonder if it's worth buying it this exspensive?

Answer
it depends. are you using your computer for work or games? anyways, i'll summarize the important components up one by one for you:

power supply: mhmm that power supply is powerful, but will you really be needing all that power? if you don't need a super powered or super fast computer than don't waste your money on this one.

motherboard: i'm not going to say anything about this as a motherboard is like the base of your computer so you can go ahead with that.

processors: reasonable... even if you use it for work ( as you will be needing to use a lot of applications at once and a better performance is needed such as this one). this will be enough for games too, as this is a quad processor.

graphics card: that is a pretty high end graphics card, remember best used for games only, if you mostly use it for work go for a cheaper card, depending on how much work and how much gaming you'll be doing, you might want to consider intel (for work ONLY), or a cheaper graphics card from nvidia or ati.

hard drive: it's also reasonable, depending on how much stuff you need to store on your computer.

extra hard drive: unless you'll be doing heavy editing on large video files, an extra hard drive isn't necessary.

external hard drive: yes, you definitely need an external hard drive. why? to backup your computer from time to time of course.

keyboard: doesn't matter which keyboard, though you might want to save as much money on keyboards for your other components.

screen: that's a HUGE screen, but if you think that's necessary for work or gaming go for it.

mouse: like the keyboard it doesn't matter which one you pick just save money on these

internet security: actually, i don't have much experience with norton. i use mcafee, and it's been doing a good job so far.

operating system: okay as well

webcam: if you really need a webcam go for it.

ok, so your extras like the pendrive, headphones, speakers and anything else on your list that are extras, you need to save as much money as possible on things, to save enough to pay for all those important components. an example would be the webcam. do you really need it? ask yourself that question for your headphones, pendrive, extra hard drive, just ANYTHING extra. can you do without them? if so, you'll hopefully save up enough for the computer.

good luck, and i really hoped i helped.
