Can a graphics card help reduce fan noise?

best quiet gaming pc case image

Navjeet

I run my pc on integrated graphics and the fans are fairly quiet until i start playing games like world of warcraft and then they get pretty loud and its just during games cause when i exit the fans go quiet in a short amount of time. I was thinking it was because im using the motherboard graphics and since the graphic capabilities are fairly weak the motherboard would be doing extra work and the fan would spin faster or something to reduce the extra heat from using it to play games but im not sure. I'm planning to get a new graphics card and i was wondering if it would also help reduce the noise of the case or cpu fan.

Answer
You didn't mention what kind of system you are running, but some generalizations can be made. Games that are graphic intensive will put a substantial load on your processors, thereby creating more heat. Your fans will run perhaps faster to dissipate the heat so as to not damage your equipment. Any add-on graphics card of recent vintage will likely have its own fan, which will probably add to the overall noise. Liquid cooling or a case with sound absorbing material are your current options for peace and quiet.

What makes a pc noisy? building my own and it HAS to be quiet?

__connor__

So what makes a pc loud
apart from the hdd, CPU fan and normal circulator fans.
What makes the pc noisy
also is it worth getting a water cooling system?

Answer
crappy power supplies, cooling fans and case fans are usually the problem.

The stock fans that come with retail CPU's are also noisier than the branded ones (e.g thermaltake and zalman fans )

If your PC is noisy, you can replace some of the fans with your own, starting with the CPU and case fans.
If it's still noisy you might want to consider a water block for your GPU or a passive cooler if you don't play games.

The title says it all. I am building my first gaming PC and want to know what is a good gaming configuration for under 900$? I want to play modern games on max including BF3. Please help me with this. Thanks.

Answer
Like I am telling everybody, that says they have a budget, your biggest savings is going to come if you already have a hard drive, even if it is a SATA2 drive, just reuse it for a few more months. The price of hard drives has doubled and tripled over the last few weeks, due to flooding overseas... The SATA2 drives will be slightly slower, but the price of a 1Tb SATA3 64mb drive is $220 here in the states, they were $76 about a month and a half ago... which will eat up most of your builds money... So if you have an old drive, use it, and that will save you alot for the time being for better faster hardware now... For budget vs. performance, you cannot beat the i5 even the 2300, 2320, 2400, 2500 i5, with a good z68 chipset motherbaord can overclock up to 3.8Ghz, which is really no slouch... Using the same graphics card, a 560GTX ti 950mhz, gained 4000 points in Futuremark 06 from just upgrading to the 2400 overclocked to the same 3.8Ghz that my old q9550 was overclocked to... To put it like this, the q9550 stock out performs about all the Phenom II quads, so as you can see even my q9550 overclocked was kinda bottlenecking my 560GTX ti... The Sandy Bridge is just that good of a platform... Look for used i5's on ebay for bid, and try to snag one cheap. I got my 2400 i5 for $120, paired with a AsRock Extreme3 Gen3 motherboard, G.Skill 2133mhz ram, and my old Gigabyte 560GTX ti... My setup would cost about $600 American, leaving you some breathing room for a good heatsink fan for the CPU, and a good cooling case, and even enough for a decent hard drive, if you don't have one...

What a better graphics card GeForce 660 or Radeon 7850?

wasim

Hi, Im going to build my first gaming pc and im having a bit of trouble finding a graphics card, the two ive narrowed it down to are the GeForce 660 or the saphire Radeon 7850. Which is better to get and value for money? Also if there are any other graphics card with a price under £200.
I want to be able to play game like bf3, and the new tomb raider.

Answer
HD 7850 < GTX 660 < HD 7870 < GTX 660 TI <HD 7950

For under £200 though, you want to be looking at the HD 7870 Tahiti Core Video Cards, these cards have the same GPU as the HD 7950 just at a slightly restriction. By far and amazing choice at sub £200

A Quick example is

What specs and configuration could you suggest for gaming PC?

Nusferatu

I'm planning to configure a gaming PC and im confused about the specs of gaming PCs,could someone be kind to share tyheir knowledge about computers?
Here are some of my criteria:
-The price first and foremost, preferrably affordable and cheap not neccessarily branded.
-Hard Drive?
-Processor?
-RAM?
-Graphics card?

Answer
Ok so it's a gamer you want......
MOBO: Gigabyte EX38 chipset or newer
CPU: Intel Q9450 or higher
RAM: (here's the debate: if you use a 64bit OS get as much ram as you can. If you use a 32 bit OS your stuck with 4 GB) I used a 64 bit OS Windows 2008 Server x64 and I have 8GB of G-Skill PC2-1000 Ram, Make sure your RAM has a speed equal to or higher than the FSB speed of the CPU it will help decrease the bottlenecking problem for the data speed from the CPU to the RAM
Cooling: I prefer fans over liquid, but it is truly about choice.
Hard Drive: 3 in total 1) 80GB Western Digital SATA II (for OS only)
2) 1.5 TB Western Digital SATA II (Docs, photos,
and anything else you want to put on it.
3) 1.5 TB Western Digital SATA II ( Movies, or
virtual drives for your games)
Graphics card: I am a ATI fan and love the new HD series cards, but make sure it has a minimum of 512 MB of RAM on board and a cooling fan. I have two GPU's on my system and I run 4 monitors.

Now what I just listed if you bought it retail would run you about 3500.00 to 5500.00. Dependent on your location. I built this system last year and I spent just over 1500.00. I can now buy all of this stuff for well under 900.00. USE EBAY!!!! I have since learned how to find great deals on EBAY and love it. But if you don't have the cash don't bid. Make sure you also have a good power supply in your rig, I used an Antech Quatro True Power 850 Watt PSU. It is not cheap but it is worth it to have the power there when you need it.

If you want to build it your self have fun, it is a great and rewarding experience to build your own system, but if you don't want to build it your self, send an email to jdptechnology@yahoo.com, they will build what you want and do it cheap. I know this for fact because they just built a system for a friend and it had a diamond viper Graphics card with 512MB RAM on the card and had a n ECS MOBO with a Q6600 CPU and 4 GB's of ram and memory card reader and a DVD burner for under 400.00. It is a sweet machine.

I am thinking about building a new gaming PC, but I'm on a fairly tight budget (around £600). So is it more important to invest in a good CPU and a good GPU or an average CPU and a really good GPU.

Thanks in advance for answering. :)

Answer
GPU -> CPU.

I would write more, but that's basically how it works for games. Grab yourself an average CPU with good overclocking potential and pair that with a decent GPU. Don't forget enough ram (2+GB) and a solid PSU.

Can anyone help me with finding a gaming PC to buy?

Build your own. You are looking at 600 if you build your own. If you choose to get a crappy dell then it will cost you 1200.

What's a good list of PC components for building a gaming PC?

best gaming pc liquid cooling image

Waffle-ato

I want an epic gaming pc, that WON'T break the bank. I'm willing to go upwards around $1500-$2000. I want a total Kick-A$$ gaming pc. I most certainly will not do liquid cooling (i mean with resevoirs, pumps, and all that stuff) Any money you can save me will be great. I don't need a monitor, mouse, headphones, or any of that stuff. I want this focused on parts not peripherals. Links Please :))

Thanks!

Answer
Just make sure you get SSD (I would combine it with SATA so you have both speed for system/programs and storage for data). SSD could seem quite expensive, but if you buy a smaller one, really just for fast system and programs, it shouldn't be so much money. ¨
Make sure you have atleast 8 GB RAM - it's not so expensive.
Also never skimp on cooling, that's very important. It doesn't have to be liquid.

Now you can look how much money you got left, and considering that you could choose which CPU and GPU (and correct motherboard and power supply) you can afford. I wouldn't go below 2 GB memory on GPU if you are a serious gamer. CPU probably 4 cores.

I'm not going to make you a list, but these are most significant "epic gaming PC factors" for me :-)
Hope you pick well, and enjoy your gaming experience.

Ht is the best liquid cooling system for a gaming pc?

Nickman98

I am building my first gaming/video production pc. I record alot of videos in long gaming sessions. I also do high video editing and a lot of multitasking. So my question is what is the best liquid cooling system for my pc? Btw te chipset is LGA 1155. Thanks very much or your help ;)

Answer
Honestly, you don't really need something so complicated with today's chips. They stay relatively cool, just make sure your PC is free of dust so the fans can do their magic. And if you're worried about fan noise, just make sure not to use small fans, only use 120mm fans and larger, they barely hum. I have three 120mm fans running on my PC and I barely hear them...

The best set up is to have the fans all suck air into the PC and install fan filters outside every fan. Just make sure to get rid of any fan in the back close to where the power supply exhausts or you'll be sucking in the hot air from the power supply into your PC, lol. I have two fans on the left side of the case and one on the right, all of them intake, and all three with filters. This overpressurizes the case so no unfiltered air goes into the case since all air is exiting the case at every crack and opening. I haven't had to clean the inside of my computer for years...

What motherboard should I use for my new gaming pc?

Kai

Im building a gaming PC but I don't know what motherboard to use, my budget is 800$. So far I have a GTX 660, i7 3770K 3.5GHz ivy bridge cuad core, 1 Tb hdd and a blue ray drive. I haven't buy the ram yet but I plan on getting 8gb. So I did the math and im left with 200$ left. What mother board you guys would recommend? also should I get more ram?

Answer
Go with an i5 3570k instead of the i7. The only difference betwern them is that the i7 has hyperthreading, which is completely useless for gaming. That will save you about 100 dollars that you can put towards a better graphics card such as a gtx 670, maybe even a 680.

8gb of ram is more than plenty for gaming.

And for the motherboard I would suggest an asrock z77 extreme 4, it is an excellent motherboard and is priced around 140 dollars.

You might also consider an SSD for your OS and games, much faster boot and load times that way.

Which Three Should I Buy? Apple iPad, Apple iPhone 3GS, Nintendo DSi XL, PSP GO, PSP 3000, and Xbox 360 Elite?

best gaming headset for pc and xbox 2012 on XBOX Wireless Headsets | TV Wireless Headphones
best gaming headset for pc and xbox 2012 image

Gamer959

I am a current PS3 Slim and Nintendo Wii owner. I have never had any of these systems before which is the reason why i want to pick the best three as possible. So, i never had an iPad (because it came out today) Never had an iPhone, Never had a Nintendo DS, Never had any kind of PSP, And Never had any Xbox 360 before ever. So, if everybody who answers this question reads this, i would really appreciate it. Okay, lets start off with the Apple iPad. I want the Apple iPad because it is new and just came out today. Everybody wants an iPad if they do not have one, and it is the most poular thing out there right now, and it has a 10.3 Inch screen display. Now, i really think that the iPad might have some bugs in it since it just came out, but i think that Apple takes care of the viruses and bugs because they are one of the best companies out there. But, i really like the iPhone because this will be my first phone and my parents had approved on it which took a very long time to do. The iPhone has games, music, apps. and a lot more. So, if i buy the iPad and the iPhone i think that it would be very stupid of me to do that because the iPad is the same exact thing as the iPhone accept it has a larger screen. Plus, I already have a PC. Anyway, the Nintendo DSi XL is amazing with a 93% larger screens than the Nintendo DS Lite. But, what stinks is that a few days before the Nintendo DSi XL came out Nintendo announced that they will release the Nintendo 3DS sometime between Now and March 31st 2011. So, it could be released in a year. Plus, i heard that it will replace the whole Nintendo DS series, even the Nintendo DSi XL. My parents are convinced to let me buy the Nintendo DSi XL right now, and then buy teh Nintendo 3DS in a year because i am buying everything from my money. So, should i buy the Nintendo DSi XL and the Nintendo 3DS or just the Nintendo DSi XL because the Nintendo 3DS might not be amazing, or should i wait and buy the Nintendo 3DS? Now, to the PSP Series. I like the PSP 3000 because it has a large 4.3 Inch Screen. But, the problem is that Sony mught discontinue the PSP 3000 because it is getting very old and the lifespan is almost over. So, if any of you say that not all of the UMD Games are on the PlayStation Network for you to download for the PSP GO, well you would be wrong BECAUSE EVERY SINGLE GAME THAT I LIKE ON UMD IS AVAILABLE ON PLAYSTATION NETWORK, so that should not be a big problem, also pricing is not an issue at all. But, here comes the problem, my dad told me that since the Nintendo 3DS is coming out, Sony might come out with a newer version of the PSP to compete with the Nintendo 3DS, because when Nintendo released the Nintendo DSi, they released the PSP GO six months after, to compete. Also, yesterday tehre was some news that sony might come out with a new PSP because some guy said it by accident, and they might announce it at E3 2010. So, i have talked enough about the PSP so lets go to the Xbox 360 Eltie. I am a huge fan of the Halo Series, Fable Series, and a huge fan of Xbox Live. But, you know how the Xbox was released in 2005, and the Elite came out in 2007, well the Elite was the same thing as the Xbox 360 Pro, but they were black and had 120GB. So, litterly the Xbox 360 came out in 2005. But, since it is the oldest console in this generation, i am afraid that Xbox might come out with a new system maybe in 2011, or 2012. Also because they make a price drop every year and now they are $299.99 and if next year they are $199.99 then they are too cheap and the company would have to make a new system. But, do they have to make a price drop? Or can they just keep it at $299.99 and then when Project Natal make it $399.99, so will they keep it expensive or decrease the price and come out with a new Xbox. Because in 2004 i got a PlayStation 2 Slim and i thought that it was too old, but then people said that it wasn't then two years later the PS3 came out and i was sony dissapointed that i wasn't able to get the PS3 because i wasted my money on the PS2 and my parents didn't let me, but now i got the PS3 Slim on Black Friday so it was not a huge problem, but will Xbox come out with a new system because i do not want to miss out on the new one. And should i just be happy with what i have and not buy teh Xbox 360 Elite. Anyway, thank you for those who read this all. Ohhh, just remembered that if i buy teh iPad i will buy the 16GB Wi-Fi version which is $499.00. Who ever explains the most and gives the best detail i will give five stars and ten points, and if you write two sentences you are not going to get the best answer. So, thanks everybody and type a lot!!!

Answer
Well I have got a Nintendo DS and Xbox 360. I got the DS as soon as it came out and thought it was the best thing around at that time. Then I got a Wii, played it for about 3 months, then got bored of it. Now I know why people are selling the Wii's constantly.
Around October last year, I bought an Xbox 360 and so far, it is when of the best things I have ever spent £200 on (I got the Elite + 2 new games). I thought this was a fantastic price for what it actually is. The black consle with a 120 GB hard drive, black headset and 1 black controller. I suggest getting the Elite instead of the Arcade because you will get more for your money.
Never really been interested in buying the PS3. The HD of the Xbox was too high up for me. Hope this helps.

Does the Tritton AX 720 actually have : 5.1 or 7.1 ?

Andre

I just got the Tritton AX720 from EBAY. I didn't get the 2012's because I'm not serious into gaming.
My decoder is supposed is to light up all white or what ?
1st: Blue - Power , White - Dolby Digital 5.1 signal is being received.
2nd: White - Pro Logic II mode , Off - Dolby Digital signal or Stereo Mode
3rd: White - Dolby Headphone mode , Off - Stereo mode
4th: White - Movie (Game Mode) , Green - Music Mode , Off - Stereo Mode
My decoder box has Blue the first and white on the rest .....
I play BLOPS which it is hard to sound whore but I can still here people ( just can figure out who, and where) but is it 5.1 Surround Sound because my first light is Blue and not White.
I play Xbox LIVE - RFG Sinatra III , and I have my audio settings to Dolby 5.1
What is my problem

Answer
Tritton AX 720 7.1 Surround Sound Gaming Headset for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC is really good. it takes no more than a few minutes to hook up (if your technologically savvy). This headset is a lot better than the turtle beach earforce px2s model. The sound is clearer and the setup is smoother. The only thing I did't like is at first the headset feels a little tight but after 2 days that feeling goes away.

I would like to build my own gaming pc instead of paying 1000's of dollars to get an average one. However i have never done anything technical like that so should i just buy a gaming pc or risk building my own?

Answer
It is easy, the complicated part is ensuring everything will fit in the case while ordering it. Two important factors are the motherboard needs to be a form factor that matches the case and the CPU needs to match the motherboard's socket. Also the graphic card usually lists length. To fit it needs to be shorter than the back of your case to the hard drive cage.. not the full length of the case.

How much will I need for a good gaming PC?

Brent Stic

Hi, I was just wondering how much money I would probably need for a good gaming PC (including monitor, mouse, etc). I do not necessarily want to play every game with fully maxed out setting, but at least on the mid-high end spectrum for the next few years. I am trying to muster up about $1000, but I'm not sure if that will be enough. Also, if you know any reliable, well-priced PC's, a link would be great.

Answer
With monitor, you can have an upper level gaming PC for $1000

Basics should be something like

- i3 or i5 processor (or the AMD equivalent)
- P67 or Z68 motherboard (see above)
- minimum an ATI 6870 or NVidia GTX560ti graphics card
- 600 watt modualr power supply (lmodualr because easier for cable managment)
- 4 to 8GB of RAM @1333/1600MHz (higher speed isn't needed because of unnoticable speed gain)
- SATA 600 hard drive
- LiteOn DVD burner
- Well ventilated case
- 24" monitor from Acer or Asus (cheapest around and pretty decent)
- Simple but good mouse and keyboard from Logitech or Microsoft

The above goes between $900 and $1000 when scanning a site like NewEgg...

What happens if your computer doesn't meet the system requirements for a pc game?

I have bought the Saw pc game and my computer doesn't meet the system requirements. I have been trying to play it anyway. On the tv screen instead of showing jigsaw, it is just red. Another thing is that instead of showing a man in the chair, it just had a black shadow. Is this because of the system requirements or did I just buy a bad game?

Answer
You answered your own question. You do not meet the requirements. Most games won't even install. Consider yourself fortunate.

Okay so in a couple of weeks I'm going to buy a new pc. So should I buy a gaming pc or spend the same amount of money and buy an everyday pc and the Ps vita? Basically which one would you buy and why?

Answer
I would buy a simple Pc and the ps vita. Just because you can play with the vita almost any where and its so much fun that you do not have to sit in front of something to play a game where you can take your gaming station anywhere. The PS vita would be offering the games from ps3 on almost the same level of graphics which for a portable console is a remarkable thing, From my bookmarks here is a very brief description and sort of a review on Ps vita which would explain why I would be getting ps vita instead:

And here is the vita, which is available for pre order (I've chosen the WiFi plus 3ds so I do not have any kind of limitations):

So far ever gaming pc I've bought is HUGE and won't fit on my small little desk.

Can anyone suggest a smallish gaming pc with a good graphics card so I can play the latest games.

Answer
I think they still make them... Look for "shoebox PCs" These are small cases that still take full size PC parts. You can buy a kit and build your own, or buy a partially assembled box and choose your own video card, etc.

Otherwise, do what I did - get a little shelf or something and put that alongside your desk so you can put the PC on that.

What website or store can i get a good reliable gaming pc?

i am planning to buy a gaming pc and i have searched websites like ibuypower, cyberpower, dell, best buy. But what do you guys think?

Answer
If you have the ability and know-how build one and buy the parts online, it is the cheapest way. I built my PC for about $1200 and it would be worth at least $1500 if it was purchased from a place that sells gamer PC's whole.

All I know about the construction of PCs is that most of them can't handle the amount of stress I put on them. Where can I get a PC built just for me, that will be really powerful, without spending over 2K?
Okay, maybe I need to be a little more specific:
1. I hate Dell. Thank you.
2. I want to build a computer that handles anything, not leaving it on 24/7.

Answer
What do you mean by stress? Physical stress? Leaving them on 24/7? Playing hard core games that take up lots of resources? Please be more specific.

You can get a higher end i7 chip and dual video cards and be able to throw anything at it without stressing it to much for under $2000 easily. The key to being demanding on a computer is to keep it cool.

What computer would be best for gaming?

Your Flaps

I've recently taken an interest to PC gaming and don't know where to begin with the computers.
I've looked around and I'm not sure what it is I exactly want.
I'm positive I want a desktop computer, but other than that I'm lost.
I just want something top-notch, would be able to run many games, and under $2000.

I need to decide what to save up for. I have a ps3 and a pc just good enough to play minecraft on all the highest settings. I need to know which is the way forward. I will either get a gaming pc or a ps4 or xbox 720. Please help!

Answer
They both will exist.

PC Gaming for a lot of people is too much of a hassle. They also tend to think it's more expensive (in reality, the money you pay for a TV, a console, peripherals and the games equals or can even exceed the amount of money a great gaming rig would cost to build).

Consoles will always have a place because they are much easier to deal with. You just turn it on and pop in the game. And console gaming is generally more comfortable than PC gaming (not that you can't sit on your couch and play PC games over your TV).

If you enjoy tinkering with things, taking them apart and figuring out what goes where and making sure you're taking the absolute best care of it... PC gaming is fun.

If you just want to be able to turn your console on, pop in a game and sit on your couch and not have to deal with troubleshooting/diagnosing... stick with consoles.

im planning on getting a gaming pc and my friend knows how to put them together so just tell what would be the absolute best gaming pc you would put together? like all the parts such as processor, graphics card, etc. money is not a problem :]

Answer
Go to newegg.com, scroll down and click build your own. You can buy a bundle of the best equipment for gaming. You can also browse the whole website, and pick out whatever you want.

I would suggest that you get:

Rosewill Blackhawk Ultra computer tower(computer case). (their fans are good also)

7 or 8 core processor;

2 Tb of hard disk space;

between 8 and 12 Gb of RAM;

600 watt or better power supply;

2 Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 or 590; or Sapphire Radeon HD 6990 4GB;

also I would get some type of liquid cooling for your CPU.

Hope this was helpful.

What are the parts I need to build a gaming Pc?

What are the parts I need to build a gaming PC and where can I buy them? And what would be the total cost?

Answer
Well it depends on Ur price range what I have done to make it easier is I go to websites like tigerdirect and newegg and looked at good pard that have "also bought this"

First off you would need:
A case
Harddrive
Ram
Powersupply
Video card
CPU
CPU fan
Motherboard.

Watch out to get the same port for the motherboard and the CPU and fan (some CPUs come with a generic CPU fan)

Make sure the power has same as the monthsrboard if not you can get an adapter for the power supply.

Make sure your motherboard can handle the ram which u should be gettin DDR 3

Make sure the video card can work with the motherboard like pci express 2.0 most already have it.( I'm talking about the motherboard)

As for the rest is mostly plug and play and folow instructions.

Thanks in advance :D

Answer
If you want a gaming PC that is affordable, go with an AMD APU (it combines both the CPU and GPU to increase speed and power efficiency), and go with an SSD instead of an HDD.
