Is a good sound card essential for mid-high level PC gaming?

Heisenberg

I'm putting a PC together at custompc.ie, and I'm trying to cut down the costs. Just wondering if the default sound card (8 Chanel OnBoard Sound) is ok, and if it will work well w/ an i5 2310 processor.
Thanks!

Answer
Like anything else it depends on your "auxiliary" equipment. Good speakers - good drivers.

Onboard audio is more then sufficient for your needs on a computer. It isn't like you are going to have a $500,000 set of computer speakers and be listening to audio on it.

Unless you are trying to do professinal recording / playback, there is no reason for any kind of sound card needed as most new MoBo's will have decient HD sound onboard. however if you are an audiophile as I am you may want to get a card that has a rectifing option.. not to get too technical on the in's and outs of how rectifing works the result in sound is almost like removing a blanket covering a speaker.. much more crisp and clear..

Newer PC Games need sound card that are DirectX9 compatible?

TerraBitz

I recently bought FIFA 09 and Red Alert 3 for my PC. My system is pretty good (AMD Dual Core, 3GB RAM, NVIDIA 9800 Card), but my soun is built in or integrated. How would I know if the sound is DX9 compatible? Will these games play on my PC?

Answer
Yeah all new games need a compatible DX9 sound card.
Don't worry about ur pc! All new motherboards have integrated sound cards which support DX9 but u can install a sound card if u like.Ur system is better than me!(intel core 2 duo,2 GB ram,Geforce 9300) LOL
I already played Red Alert 3 and i'm sure u can also.

If u want to check if a game need DX9 sound card, just open the read-me file. There should be informations about system requirements of a game

Hope ur games will play.
Peace!

Which gaming pc should i buy?

Q. So basically i don't have a big budget so i was looking for something cheap on ebay and there was a lot of crap actually but after searching for ages i found these decently specced machines; i know the graphics arnt amazing or anything but they should be fine for gaming if i just turn settings down wont they, which one should i buy?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mesh-Gaming-Tower-PC-Core2Duo-3-0GHz-512MB-Graphics-/380325885346?pt=UK_Computing_DesktopPCs&hash=item588d3075a2#ht_500wt_1125

and just to conclude i'll also include a video of the type of person i am :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbS1a_caz0g

Answer
I agree with you that these are decently specced computers. If you can afford it, I would go with something a little better but it is your choice and I will answer this question specifically.

I would say go for the Mesh Gaming Tower computer. It seems to have better specs than the other computer you posted. I did a little research and the 9600GT beats the 7800 GTX in most modern games. The 9600GT is newer and will probably give you the most bang for your buck (or pound) in this situation.

When looking at gaming computers, there are a couple of things you should know. CPU speed, RAM and the GPU are all extremely important factors in gaming. The Mesh Gaming Tower would be my choice because it has more RAM, a higher clocked CPU and a newer video card. This computer should be able to run a good number of games with the settings turned down a little bit.

Finally, one thing you could do is buy the Mesh Computer and and upgrade from there once you have the money. You may want to upgrade the amount of RAM, or get a newer video card, or even a SSD but either way, I think the Mesh Gaming Tower is your best bet.

PS. That video.... I really hope you are not that kind of person. Lol

Best site to buy a custom gaming desktop pc??

SlickNick

I want to buy a good gaming desktop computer. There are so many sites out there (ex. Alienware, ShuttlePC, WidowPC, among others) its hard to figure out which ones are better than others.

What is the best site to buy a gaming PC for a reasonable price?

Answer
Most sites for gaming PCs are a ripoff. Buy an HP with good specs. Don't get a video card for it. You can get a really fast HP for about $1000. That comes with monitors and everything. You'll need a good power supply and a nice video card. Go for 600-700W power supply. Then buy an 8800 video card. It'll perform way better than an Alienware or whatever of the same price.

Edit: Please don't buy Dell.

iIs it better to buy a amd x3 8750 with cheaper motherboard and 1 gb grrphiccard, else x4 8650 and asus m3n78em?

denny

i want to buy pc under Rs 30000.
a good entry level pc

Answer
Personally I would go with the better motherboard. I guess it all depends on the features you want from it. That Asus board won't be best for gaming if your going for the onboard gpu. A Phenom X3 is pretty decent for an X3. Go with a cheap Wolfdale for CPU and a nice GPU and you will be set.

Help purchasing a pre-built gaming pc for under 700 dollars?

Eric

I'm looking to purchase a gaming pc that already has a monitor with it for under 700 dollars. I want to be able to play games like assassin's creed and skyrim on medium to high settings with reasonable fps. I am not looking to build my own pc as I am a noob and do not feel comfortable messing around with a computer. I know pc experts will be pushing me to build it but i simply do not feel comfortable with it. I am looking at cyberpowerpc and could someone recommend a model they have and some modifications they would make so I could play games and have an easy instillation. I literally know nothing about pcs.

Answer
Look at this build some one can build this for you .You dont have to build it your self .

Building ultimate gaming pc. What should I put in case? (full tower)?

Dennis

I'm going to build my pc. To make sure it's a little cheaper, I will order every single part at my home. What should I buy for a great gaming pc that MOSTLY has 60 or over 60 fps on every game and able to have graphics the highest, but still good performance. I want to play games like bf3, crysis 2 and the upcoming Watch dogs and Assassins creed 3 vert high or the highest, with still much performance and high fps rate. What kind of stuff should I put in my case (full tower)? I am thinking about a price from â¬1000 or â¬1500 or even â¬2000. But I'm going for somethig around â¬1500. (pc I have now will make something like â¬750,-)
Plz help! :D thanx!

Answer
Case: HAF X
HDD: 3tb seagate
SSD: Corsair Force GT 120gb sata 3 (For programs and windows, and maybe a handful of games you play the most)
Motherboard: A more expensive Asus Z77 Socket 1155 (Pick one)
Processor: i7 3770
PSU: at least 750W
DVD Drive: Your Choice
GPU: Nvidia 600 series (670+)
RAM: 8gb G.Skill 1886 MHZ (You will need to set it in the motherboard to use the 1886 mhz its made for, fortunately asus motherboards make this just the press of a button or 2, they've got a very user friendly BIOS)

In gaming computers the GPU is the most important part. 2nd Comes the hard drive. 3rd comes the Ram, 4th comes the Processor... however after i got my first i7, i couldn't live without having an i7. i5 just felt wrong. The processor IS the computer. The motherboard just connects everything to the processor, but a good motherboard is a must-have for your computer to perform well.

This just came off the top of my mind, i didn't look anything up except for the i7, i just remembered this stuff.

I was too lazy to provide you with links but if you're in the US or somewhere around there, i recommend buying stuff from Newegg.

That case, on top of looking gorgeous and being on wheels offfers support for up to 4 gpus and it supports those really big motherboards (cant remember name) and big psus aswell. and it supports watercooling and most importantly, without all this, its cooling capabilities with just fans are extreme, so if you ever want to overclock, the case is perfect for that. (but you'll need better than stock cooling on your processor at least for that.)

The GPU should run any game you'll want on max for the rest of this year (at least) and the 8gb of ram are enough, but enthusiasts that really use their computers for stuff more than just playing games, will want 12-16gbs today... 8gb today is 4 gbs a few years ago in comparison. you will never "Need" more than 8, and most likely never feel like you need more than 8.

Case suggestions for gaming PC?

Chris

Okay so I am completely new to PC gaming and I want to build my own PC. basically I am willing to spend up to $1500 on the whole thing. So I'm looking to have an upper scale PC. right now I'm looking at cases and I really can't decide. I know I want something with good air flow and plenty of room. I was looking at the cooler master storm Stryker or the cooler master HAF series. but I am open to anything. any help would be appreciated. Also if you can recommend other parts I may need.

I'm also confused on drive bays. some cases have up to 9 drive bays. what would I do with that many?

Answer
It depends on whether you want quality, looks or a bit of both, Lian Li make good quality cases, but are very simple in appearance and many don't support 240mm water cooling, The Haf series and cases like the Aerocool XPredator and Enermax Spinerex look really good and are full tower cases, supporting water cooling much better. It depends on what sort of case you are looking for.
Also, i would recommend getting parts such as a Nvidia GTX 680 GPU, Intel core i5 3570k processor and 8gb's of ram for a gaming pc. For a motherboard you could get something like the Asus P8Z77 or the Sabertooth Z77, its really up to your preferences.

Also you probably won't need 9 drive bays, they can be used by things like dvd burners fan controllers etc.

What is a good single player PC games?

Porkchopsa

I recently moved from online competitive games to offline games because of the convenience to pause and save whenever I please.

I think aside from Pokemon and Golden Sun, the first game I ever finished was Sleeping Dogs. Shortly after, I finished Tomb Raider 2013, and boy was it incredible! Now i'm looking for my next journey.

What recommendations can you make that will top Tomb Raider (for the PC)?

Answer
Try Dishonored, Skyrim, BioShock games, trust me, you don't have to look far for good SP games.

Answer
Its sure is a good gaming rig, the processor is top notch and the amount and type of RAM is good so you won't face any lag or processing issues ever. Gaming mouse and keyboards are a personal preference but the one with this bundle is quite good and above average.
PSU is enough to power up all the components though i recommend that you go for a 500W or 600W PSU for keeping you future proof and also coz its the life line of all your expensive components so keep it the best you can.
The only thing that problematic here is the graphic card as it a 4GB DDR3 which is only suited for multi-monitor setups and will not give you a very good performance while gaming as a DDR3 memory is slow and can never process all that 4GB of memory in tight and fast situations like gaming and would prove to be a bottle neck for all the other high quality components in your rig so i highly recommend that you go for either of these they are in the same price range as the one that you are planning to buy:
Sapphire AMD/ATI HD 7750 1 GB GDDR5
Zotac NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 1GB DDR5
If you can extend your budget then do go for:
PowerColor AMD/ATI HD 7750 1 GB GDDR5 or
Sapphire AMD/ATI HD 7770 1 GB GDDR5

Other than this you have a very good machine change the GPU and i'll rate it 8/10

You can see this article if you like for any further guidance:

Need help finding a gaming pc?

Thomas

I would like to buy a gaming pc in the price range of 500-700 dollars and i dont want to make it myself. if you find a pc can you give me a link from newegg?.. and the games i would really like to run is mostly Guild Wars 2 and new free to play games that have good graphics. im not looking to run games on max settings medium are fine but i would like to run games on max settings. if you can help me find a pc that would be really helpful thanks!

Answer
It really depends whether or not you want a stationary or a laptop.
I would go with a stationary. Every single gaming laptop I've tried have gone downhill in one year or so.
If you want to go with the stationary option I would suggest CyberPower PC Black Pearl.
I will leave a page in sources giving you specifics about it and it's opponents from other developers.
I will also leave a link where you can buy it for 509 dollars. It's list price 689 dollars so if you don't feel safe buying from Amazon it still fits your budget. You may also buy a previously owned for about 300 dollars, although this may be unsafe.
This pc should run every single game produced in 2012 on full graphics.
Although this is a great pc, I would always suggest you building it from components you buy online. This is not difficult and you can find tutorials on youtube. This is a good long term investment because you will be able to simply change out you old parts whenever they get outdated instead of always having to buy a new computer.
Good luck to you :)

Decent gaming PC/Laptop for decent price?

I would rather spend under 600 pounds and get a decent gaming laptop or PC.
how much would I have to spend to get a PC that can run console games with mods and online command and conquer, WOW and boot have all of my storage eaten after one download? If it doesn't come with all of the components that's fine, I just don't know what I need to run good quality games (eg. Ones downloaded from Steam)
Thanks.

Good gaming desktops?

Ry

I Have a good laptop for everyday use, but I need a desktop for gaming. Please give me some suggestions and try to keep it under $800 and definitely not over $1000, For Reference I would like it to be able to run "The Elder Scrolls V, Skyrim" and similar games with absolutely no lag whatsoever. For example, would the desktop in the related link be able to handle it? I have went ahead and checked the specs on some desktops and on the games I want, but I am not tech savvy enough to decide what would be enough ram, ghz, video card strength, etc for the desktop so please help!

http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-x51/pd.aspx?ref=1701prodDetails
Thanks guys for the info but Im not sure about building one just because I do not have the experience or the technical know-how to build a computer.

Answer
The computer you suggested is good enough to play your games. However, i reccomend you build your own pc seeing as it will be better, cheaper, and is really very easy to put together.
Here is a link for an $800 pc build

gaming desktop for 800$?

Asmira

Hi! I was wondering if it was possible to find a good, complete (with mouse, keyboard, speakers, monitor, etc.) pc for gaming at 800$ can. Crysis doesn't have to work though but other games yes. Suggestion of building it myself can't be considered. ^^
Any suggestions? Thank you!

Ech. Though I'm reluctant to suggest ANY computer under $800 for gaming, you will absolutely be able to find a good deal using the little-known Dell Outlet store here: http://www.dell.com/content/products/category.aspx/xpsdt?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh

As of this moment there's a perfectly acceptable gaming system for $750 here: http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSales/topics/global.aspx/arb/online/en/InventorySearch?c=us&cs=22&l=en&lob=DIM&MODEL_DESC=XPS%20210&s=dfh

Any good ds/3ds games out?

Austin

I have a 3ds and want to get a game or two right now I have super street fighter 3d and splinter cell 3d and was wondering if there are any GOOD ds/3ds games out now if it helps I enjoy shooting action type games oh and I have pokemon black, so any suggestions?

Answer
I hope you are enjoying your 3DS :)

Anyway, there are many good games out for the DS and 3DS, it depends what you like. Here are some good games that are action/shooting games:

DS (these won't support 3D, but will probably be cheaper - most of these are action games, not shooters):

Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword [DS]
Metroid Prime Hunters [DS]**
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks [DS]**
Final Fantasy IV [DS]
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum [DS]
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow [DS]
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies [DS]**
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass [DS]**
Pokemon HeartGold Version/Pokemon SoulSilver [DS]
Chrono Trigger [DS]
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars [DS]**
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare [DS]**

The games that I put ** next to are the ones I highly recommend, such as Grand Theft Auto, a game that lets you travel around a city doing whatever you want - steal cars, kill people, rob, play mini games, or do action packed missions. Another great one is Call of Duty 4. If you already have this for PC/PS3/360/Wii, then there is no point in getting this. If you don't, then this is a great shooting game to buy.

Now, here are some 3DS shooting/action games (these will have better graphics and 3D than the DS ones I mentioned above, but will probably be more expensive):

Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars [3DS] - This is a strategy game that involves commanding a squad of army troops from an overhead view.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D [3DS]** - This is more of a puzzle/adventure game, but it has action elements to it. It involves sword fighting, using bow and arrows, defeating great bosses and travelling through an ancient world completing quests and exploring dungeons.

Dead or Alive: Dimensions [3DS]** - This game is very similar to Street Fighter 4 for 3DS, but has some key differences. It is a fighting game too, but has different characters, a different story, different levels, different moves and different modes. It is more action-oriented than Street Fighter, so you might prefer this to it.

Star Fox 64 3D [3DS] - This game doesn't have the best graphics, story or online ever, but it is a very fun game. It is a shooting/action game where you control either a spaceship, submarine or tank and blast your way through countless enemies and memorable stages. It also features wireless play with up to 4 friends!

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D [3DS] - A shooting game where you have to defend against increasingly hard amounts of incoming enemies zombies. A lot of action in here.

Once again, games with ** are ones I highly recommend you check out. Now, there are also some great action games that haven't come out yet because the 3DS is quite new. Here are a list of upcoming 3DS games that have great action:

Resident Evil: Revelations** - This is a shooting game where you defend yourself against zombies and other creatures. Many people say this game has the best graphics on the 3DS, and I agree. (This is coming in early 2012)

Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D** - This is probably one of the most action filled games coming to the 3DS. It features an x-military soldier stranded in a jungle filled with military units. You must fight, sneak and blast your way out! (Coming in early 2012).

Kid Icarus: Uprising** - This is an action/shooting game that follows Pit, a hero who fights gigantic creatures and enemies. It is made by Nintendo, just like the Zelda games, so you know it will be good because they made the 3DS! (coming in early 2012).

Monster Hunter 4** - This is an action/adventure game that doesn't involve shooting, but offers great exploration and action packed gameplay of you fighting your way through monsters and dinosaurs. It features great graphics and online multiplayer play too! (coming late 2012).

Now, not all of the great games on the DS and 3DS are action/shooting games. Here are some games that I recommend you get that are not really action, but still amazing!:

Super Mario 3D Land (coming this November)
Mario Kart 7 (coming this December)
New Super Mario Bros. DS (already out)
Animal Crossing: Wild World (already out)
Kirby Mass Attack (already out)
Professor Layton (already out)
Pilotwings Resort (already out)
Ridge Racer 3D (already out)
Luigi's Mansion 2 (coming in mid-2012)
Driver: Renegade 3D (already out)

So there is a massive list of great games for DS, for 3DS, that are action-based and that are not action based. I have given you a lot of options and hope you look in to some of them and find something you like! Enjoy your Nintendo 3DS, and enjoy whatever games you end up buying! Hope I helped!

What PC game you think I should play next?

Mr. Cat

Here are the games I've enjoyed on PC:

Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 4
Scribblenauts Unlimited
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
Hitman: Absolution
Limbo
Deadspace
Street Fighter x Tekken
The Sims 3
Devil May Cry 4
Guitar Hero World Tour
Mass Effect 2

- - -

I like action adventure games.
I kinda dislike high techy stuff although I've played ME2. And RPGs are not my fave kind of game.

Answer
for a gaming pc your main focus should be the gpu and it seems you picked the cheapest dedicated one. try for something like a 6870. you can downgrade to an i5-2500 and 4GB of ram without any noticable performance loss and put that money into a better gpu. in fact, 4GB @ 1600 would be better than 8GB @ 1333 especially if they have the same timings

Can you play PC games without the keyboard and mouse mainly?

youdontkno

I tried to play counterstrike and half life and so far I have to use the keyboard to and mouse somewhat ...for pc games u can't be mainly dependent on the controller?( a bought a video game type controller) should I buy a new one? or is it just these certain games they dont let u use ONLY ur controller?

Answer
There is a huge difference between PC games and console games (gamecube, X-box, PS2, etc)....

I have played PC games for many years (late 80's) as well as several platform games, and trust me, using a keyboard and mouse is FAR better than a joystick/gamepad. You see, console games cannot use real-time aiming like a mouse... instead, they have to rely on using a target button, which is a lot like cheating (don't we wish we had a 'target' button when WE shoot people?). If you would invest about 30-45 days with a keyboard, getting used to the W,A,S, and D keys as the main movement keys, you would quickly grow accustomed to the controls.

Nowdays, I only play PC games. My kids play on gamecube, and I can't hardly stand it. If they play a first-person shooter on Gamecube, it is impossible to run to the left, and shoot to the right at the same time. You are forced to run in the direction you want to shoot. You are also forced to scroll through weapons to change them... with a PC you can assign 10 different weapons to the 10 number keys, and instantly pick one without having to roll through all the others.

Also, don't play counterstrike online without being very proficient with the controls... you'll get your tail whipped very badly. Play the single player game (like Half-life) and get accustomed to it that way.

p.s. If you program your keys right, your left hand will be able to control about 15 things without having to move the hand at all... just the fingers. This allows for fast response and max. speed. The keys on the right half of the keyboard shouldn't be used much at all.

Good luck, and don't give up!

Answer
On the whole it looks fairly solid but why not have an SSD for the OS install and games. This will make a perceptible difference in load times.

I also can't see an audio card in your rig.

thank you :-)

Answer
Yeah thats about what I paied for my PC, and yours is actually a bit better then mine, what with having more RAM and a slightly petter processor, and I got mine at a good deal. 480 pounds (about $750 in usd) is a pretty good deal i'd say. Yeah the graphics card isnt good at all, about for about 100~200 you can get a pretty decent one that will let you play a ton. for something like skyrim you'd need about 480 steam processors for it to run smoothly, and the Intel HD2000 has about 200. Just for low profile games on Steam, it should manage, but i would consider upgrading to AT LEAST a a Radeon HD 5750.

PC for gaming.................?

Mr.

How good would it be my pc if I upgrade my video card and RAM?
The current specs are:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz
Mainboard: PT890-8237A
Memory: DDR2 - 1x2 GB
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS (256 MB)

I think that the CPU is still good nowadays, and with some change, I would be able to run games like Battlefield 3...
If it is possible, which Video Card and Ram should I buy?
Is it worth to spend some money to upgrade it?

Answer
Your CPU is good enough to run the latest games. However, you need to upgrade your graphics card to one with atleast 1 GB memory and the ram to 4 GB. If you want a value-for-money graphics card, then go for ATI Radeon. They are comparatively much cheaper than Nvidia but performance wise at par. For the RAM, I would suggest Corsair.

PSP or decent gaming PC?

looi_qi_we

Which one is better?

I personally don't like the graphic in PSP, but good gaming PC seems to be quite expensive (or the other way round)? Any comment?

Answer
Yes a gaming PC is a LOT better then a PSP and in games as far as I am concerned, but it can cost around $1000 dollars for a gaming PC with dedicated graphics and the like.

My opinion is a specific high quality gaming PC beats PSP hands down... unless your factoring price...

looking for a cheap decent computer to run diablo 3?

JAMES

hey guys, i know nothing about computers like parts and whats hot and whats not soooo i was wondering if anyone can find me a decent desktop for under 300 that can run diablo 3 fine until im able to upgrade later

like idk what was good here http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=10&name=Desktop-PCs

thanks

Answer
Sorry friend, but you cannot get a decent gaming PC for that amount, $300 is pretty low since the OS is $100 already and the cheapest monitor you could get at newegg (if you're lucky enough) is about $80 but usually good monitors start at $100.

So try saving up a bit more, lets say up to $700 to $800 to get a decent gaming PC that can run ALL GAMES on high-max settings and it would be better if you could build it yourself (much cheaper and well balanced) or have someone build it for you ( like a friend or a local computer shop).

Here is an example for you:

The video card is not something to be proud of. Okay, just to help you get a better idea of what better parts to get with your $800 budget, here is a list of parts from newegg I came up just for you:

Intel Core i3-2120 Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz LGA 1155 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2000 BX80623I32120 - $125

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM - $100

TOTAL: $812 ($766 after rebate + SHIPPING), Okay friend, with this build that has an HD 6870, you could play all games on high-max settings especially because the monitor that comes with this build has a very decent 1600x900 resolution (just like my 20" LED samsung syncmaster).

Newegg parts and prices.

Are there any free "Offline" PC games?

Nic

I have a spare laptop that I'm giving away to a friend. She plays games on Facebook like Aquarium and Hidden Chronicles (a search and find game), however she does not have internet at her house.

Are there any good free/cheap games that I could download for her, that don't require internet to actually play?

NOTE: PirateBay is NOT an acceptable answer. I don't care if no one but her ever sees it, I'm still not putting anything on her laptop that would put her at risk of being in trouble.

which is better for me pc or ps3?

Juan

i want to play with friends at home and we are 4 which do you recomend

Answer
If you play 4 in your home I suggest to buy a Wii U.

Because it has Great Family and Friends to play in the same room. (only to wait when it comes up in November 18(-30) 2012)

PS3 has not really have a family just only for 2 (unless you buy an extra 2 controllers but it has less games for 4 players like to play Rayman Origins)

But PC is depence on specs on your computer and different games and have 3-4 joystick you need to install to play it.

Best pc specs as of 2013?

James M

hi I want to build my own custom pc I want the best of specs. I'm looking for something quiet extremely fast and stable. I have a fortune to spend and don't know what to buy.

Answer
I won't take your fortune at face value. Anyway, it does not make sense to put money where it does not help

I would go dual GTX 780 cards in SLI for GPU

i7-4770k for CPU

16 GB of RAM, unless you have special needs

For hard drives, you should by a large SSD drive for your system drive, or go with some sort of RAID SSD setup.

You can add a large HD for media storage, or games if you want.

Liquid cooling can be nice and quiet. If you are rich, goto a company like Digital Storm and they can build you a nice liquid cooled system for $6000+ (depending on options.)

Where should I buy my Gaming PC and what specs should it have?

Ben

During the summer of 2013 I am thinking about spending £1000 on a gaming PC, so I need to know what company makes good 'solid' PC's that do not break instantly and are 'trusted'.

Thanks

Answer
A grand will get you top spec. but you will want to self build, you'll get all the parts you want and quite possibly cheaper than a prebuilt system.

I recently did a build for someone (details are on my email account) which was on a £700 budget,

i5-3570k
asrock z77 extreme4
8gb ram
1tb hdd
WiFi card
OCZ 600w PSU.
7850 Radeon HD graphics.
120gb sandisk extreme SSD.

this came in at 700, so for 1k, you can up the graphics card to top spec and still be in budget...

prices change and tech is renewed quite often so in 6months there will be an even better spec available.

Good Pre-built Gaming PC under 1000 dollars?

Luke Smith

It would be nice if it had an i5, 8 gigs of ram, and if possible, 750 watt psu. Don't say alienware. Thanks.

Answer
http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Xtreme_1000_SE/
It comes with an i5 cpu, 8Gb memory, 800 watt power supply, GTX 560 1Gb graphics card, Blue Ray Player, 3yr warranty, and 1TB Hard Drive. And the current selection comes with 20 dollar MIR. You can also change the case and other items to suit your needs. If you dont want the blue ray you can save yourself 40 dollars. Only pain about this website shipping is very expensive 75 dollars for 10-15 days. But there are coupon codes that work myspace for $30 off with price $799+ and Spring0410 for 5% off 999+.

gaming pc for 500 dollars?

kmon

I want to buy an gaming pc for Christmas, right now I own 500 dollars, where to get the best performance for less money, or, how to build a gaming pc for 500 dollars or less? if not, should I wait for a specific date to get a good deal?
info for games u want to play along with what kind of games you plan to play in the future: the nex total war one, battlefield 4, COD um...10 the dog one, modded skyrim , u know...a pc that can handle everything that comes out in the next 3 or 4 years.

Answer
The best gaming PC right now for $500 is the CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA380 Gaming Desktop Computer . Right now on B7H it is for 511 dollars, but only until October 12, in which the price climbs to 541 dollars. It looks REALLY cool, and even has LEDs built in. They are in stock as you are reading this, but I'm pretty sure people are also trying to buy this. Here are the specs:
â¾3.6GHz AMD FX-4100 Zambezi Quad-Core CPU
â¾8GB DDR3 SDRAM
â¾1TB SATA III 7200rpm Hard Drive
â¾nVIDIA GeForce GT610 Graphics Card
â¾24x DVD±RW DL Super-Multi Drive
â¾Integrated 5.1 Channel HD Audio
â¾10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45
â¾Thermaltake Commander Mid-Tower Case
â¾USB Gaming Keyboard and Mouse
â¾Windows 8 64-bit Edition
I'll post the pic for this PC down below, so you can see the awesomness of it all.

If you want to wait, you can save up to 1000 dollars, to get an Alienware PC, which is the best one on the market, but remember, that you will have to build this one yourself.

You can save up even more, for the RazerBlade pro, but that's 3000 dollars, and isn't in a lot of people budgets for a gaming PC.

Gaming Laptop/PC Help?

kevin

Im thinking about buying a Gaming computer. I don't know alot about this stuff.. Usually I would ask my friends about this stuff but no one I know owns a gaming computer :/. I'm trying to spend within my budget ($350), if that's possible?.. If you could help me out that'll be tight. :)

1.) What is better/cheaper? Gaming Laptop or PC?

2.) Do I have to pay to play online??

3.) What is the least I should spend on a gaming computer? (I'll be playing BF4, Day-Z, The Forest)

4.) Do gaming computers overheat quickly??

That's all I think I should know.? If you'd like to add something I forgot, feel free. Also if you find any websites selling gaming computers that you think will fit me and my game style around the price im looking for that would be perfect :) Thnx

Answer
gaming desktops are always going to be cheaper in a price to performance ratio aswell as more powerful if you're spending the same price. that being said, a desktop would be your best choice, gaming laptops are really only for the convenience of portability.

as for paying for online you don't need to, that's the best part about pc gaming, you don't have to pay for something you already pay for.

as for the least to spend on a gaming computer, for the games you wan't you're going to want to spend at least like 500 bucks, anything lower and the computer just isn't going to do much in terms of gaming. mid end, you're going to be looking at about 750 bucks. and high end pc's are going to run about 1200 bucks, anything more and you're not getting that much for your money.

as for overheating, you shouldn't have too much problems aslong as you're in a nice enviorment. Spend some money on an aftermarket cooler, it will do wonders for your CPU and as for the GPU they typically have their own fans.

try out newegg to find the best prices for computers and if you want to get yours custom built, try Cyberpowerpc

Good gaming laptop/pc!!!?

ok my current pc is just DEAD with viruses, and my laptop is so slow im purposely trying to kill it to get my dad to buy a new one...i need a good gaming pc! any computer ppl here? what should i look for? like RAM and GHz-and whats the average cost? i got mine my laptop for 900 i think and it has 448 MB of RAM and 1.60GHz..shameful.
thanks in advance :)
oh..i want it for gaming, the game i play is world of warcraft and its a huge game-my laptop fails at running it

Answer
Most important thing is the processor. Compare processors - not just the GHZ (the general processor speed measure) but also the cache and bus. Dont be fooled by highly clocked processors with tiny caches and such...

Also, it might be better to get a single core processor, not these fancy dual and quad cores. Right now, less than %5 of applications out there and just a handful of games can actually utilize more than one core - wich means that if you have a 2ghz dual core processors, most games will play as if they were on a 1ghz processor (wich cant really play anything)

Eventually everything will be able to take advantage of multiple core tech, but until then, either get a much cheaper single core, or go fo a high end dual core wich will still be able to operate OK on one core. Mediocre dual cores a pretty useless right now...

For ram: At least 1 gb. But check the type too - DDR3, 240 pin, thats good stuff... dont be fooled by computers using old DDR ram that will operate much slower...

Your going to need a video card - careful, they make a lot of cards with tons of cheap memory in them so the specs look good bu they actually suck. Like a sucky 512mb card can easily be beat by a good 256mb card.

Best thing you can do is build the system yourself. Its actually very easy and will save you a lot of money as well as get you the best possible configuration. If you dont want to mess with that - pay to have a system built - this can still come out a lot cheaper.

And your old computer... if its full of viruses and such, just wipe the hard drive with DBAN and then reinstall windows using an OEM cd. It will be running like new.

Also if you want something for gaming dont go with a laptop as it will cost you at least 3x more and will not be as good.

***just saw your add - if you just want to play WOW you can get any used system on craigslist for like <$200, or a laptop for like <$400. WOW is old business graphically...

looking for a decent gaming pc?

Jamie Mc n

Ebay preferably. Please only people who know what they are talking about answer.. This is my second time posting this question and I got answers like "Buy a dell Pc they are a lot cheaper"..

Here are some of the specs Id like:
--Quad-core processor 3.0ghz
--4gb ddr3 ram +
--A graphics card like an nivida GeFore GT 450 1gb (Don't say this card isn't good, I ran crysis 2 on max settings with no aa and medium shadows on a 1366x760 res and i got a good 25-35 fps)
--Ether windows xp or windows 7

Im not trying to get a super gaming pc that will last for years, 2 or 3 years will do me out of it but I would like to be able to upgrade it myself. No a nice tower and motherboard as well please :) Also Im planning on running games with a 1366x760 res and I don't really care much for anti-analyzing or shadows.

I had a PC with similar specs but the water cooling I had got a leak and when I turned on my computer it fried everything inside :s.

My limit is â¬350 (£310, $520)

I have been looking for ages and I have found a few myself but I need help, there is like thousands up there. If you know a good pc site feel free to link what youd like from there. (Keep in mind, I live in Ireland and Euro is my currency)
@Idk and Brennan,
This is what I mean.. do a bit or searching and you will find what you need for this price, my last computer had the exact specs with water cooling and that was just 400 euro (around 600 dollars) but they are out of stock and i don't trust water cooling anymore.

all suggestions regarding better performing parts @ competitive price r welcomd.....plz reply soon...

Answer
You can run those games at max settings except for GTA IV and Crysis. You would need a quad core CPU and a better graphic card to run those games at max.

If you can get a Phenom X 4 processor(150 US$) and an ATI HD5770 graphic card (120 US$), you might be able to run most of the latest games at max or even the upcoming games but you might have to spend 100$ more.

Buying a dual core core CPU now is not a very good idea, especially if you are planning to use it for 2-4 more years. Most of the games and applications today requires at least a quad core to run at high settings.

GAMING PC components compatability?

Jules M

hi all im trying to build a pc and was wondering if you think the parts are compatible.... i have looked up myself but would hate it if i found after buying it that it was not compatible... heres what i have planned,

case: lian li pc-a17a - black

mobo: Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe Motherboard AM2 AMD 790FX/SB600 ATX RAID SATA LAN

cpu: AMD PHENOM X4 9650 2.3GHZ SKT AM2 4MB 95W PIB

gpu: Sapphire ATI Radeon HD4850 512MB PCI-E Graphics Card

ram: 4GB kit (2GBx2), Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400 memory module

basically i think they are compatible but am not sure... i have all the optical drives and hard drive sorted out but im not sure about the psu.... i have been told that i need a 1000W in pc world, then a 600w in maplin and a 400w last time i asked on this?!?! i cant see any details on the motherboard or anything and cant really work it out?! can anyone help? im sortof on a budget so want to keep price as low as possible but want my components to be at their best.. and noise is not an issue

thanks

cheers scottie i agree with the mobo but theres always space to upgrade! thanks for the advice... 600w... is there anyting else to consider? i know i should get a 24 pin but is there anything like ampage?

Answer
Let's start with the "Building Block' of a computer. Your building block is the Asus M3A32-MVP. I know it has a PCI-Express x16 slot, and it's the PCI-Express 2.0 version. But lets go to Asus's website (Asus.com/Support), and get the facts.
http://support.asus.com/default.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
I'm going to download the PDF Motherboard Manual, so I know exactly what the motherboard will support,
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
(It's the Version E3455, should you wish to take a look. I used the Global download. The China download was going to take too long)

Page xi, tells you under Cpu support, that this mobo (Motherboard) supports Phenom X4. (You're good to go!)

Under the Memory heading it tells you it supports DDR2 at 800MHz.
Crucial's Ballistic is a good PC-6400 ram. You have Four ram slots, and each one has a 2GB Maximum Amount for ram. (You're good to go!)

You have Four PCI-Express x16 slots. These are the PCI-Express 2.0 version.
Be aware that if you install Two graphics cards, each one run's at 16x.
If you install Three graphics cards, One run's at 16x, and the other Two at 8x. (This is normal)
If you install Four graphics cards, all Four run at 8x, and you should adopt me! lol! Wish I had the money for FOUR graphics cards!)

So that pretty well does it. You can check pages 2, 3, 13, 14, 15,
(Wait until you see page 18!), 22, and 23, for more direct info on your listed hardware.

1000 watt Psu? Somebody's on crack!
The mobo takes about 150 watts.
The Phenom uses 95 watts->Max. (Look at your description. See the 95W?)
An AMD ATI Radeon HD4850 takes ->450 watts, and this includes the rest of the system. They never list a graphics card wattage usage, without listing what the entire system needs. Ain't NO graphics card gonna' use 450 WATTS! They base the wattage on a spec system setup. They use a pretty 'LAID-OUT' system, to try to encompass a lot of different system builds, that people could do. Doesn't cover them all. You should look online for a Power Supply Wattage Calculator, and base it off of that. There are free ones that work, besides the ones that want to sell you their version.
Thing that I believe you may want to consider, is what you will be doing in the future. I don't see the need of TWO graphics cards, or FOUR, but I'm not you! Is this in your immediate future? Better get a Psu that will run them now, IF you can afford it. I use the 'Best Bang for the Buck' theory. What you have listed right now, will Slam-it-to-the-wall, for games!
(I wouldn't go above a 600 watt Psu. When judging what Psu you should use, one should look at the possible Maximum wattage needed, then add 10% more wattage. This keeps the Psu from running so hard, and, I believe, increases the longevity of it)
Just make sure the Psu has a PCI-Express 6-pin power cable. This shouldn't be a problem as just about all new Psu's do! You need one that has 75 watts. Volts times Amps= Watts. 120 volts times .625 amps =75 watts. That's less than 1 Amp!
My example of a good 600 watt Psu? http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3622549&CatId=1483 (This one has TWO 12 volts rails. 21 Amps for one, and 22 Amps for the other one. This is 43 Amps for the 12 volts rail. WAY more than you need! (You know a computer only uses the wattage it needs. No MORE, no less|!)
I am a little apprehensive, about using a Quad Core for games at present. There isn't that many games, that have been written to fully utilize all four cores. They ARE coming out, however, and Quad Core is the future! It will be the norm for games before you know it! (Maybe I need to 'Man Up', and come into the future! lol! I am an old biker,so this won't be a problem)

Best gaming PC 2013 1000-1500$?

Q. Title

Answer
The best processor for gaming that is out there right now is the Intel i5 3560K. i7 isn't necessary for gaming and is more suited for doing picture and movie editing or Photoshop kind of applications and would cost you about $100 more. I would pair a 3560K with a mid-range MOBO and 16 gb of ram. The real test in cost would depend on how crazy you want to get with the graphics cards. Check out this link for benchmarks on most of the highest-end graphics cards and prices as well:
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

For a crazy high-end gamer, I would suggest (if starting from scratch) spending about $800 to $1000 on everything before GPU and the remaining money on the GPU(s) themselves. Of course there are always ways to cut price by getting 8 gb of ram, and maybe a cheaper case. All is up to you :)

Gaming pc for around 1500$?

Q. I'm looking for a gaming computer to run rts games such as Starcraft 2 and Warcraft 3 on high graphics, also I would like high graphics with amnesia the dark descent and arma 2, the fps should be smooth with little or no lag, this computer will also have all of the total war game series on it as well, thank you in advance for the specs, I already have the mouse and keyboard and need everything else

Answer
Hello,

do you plan on building it yourself?

And for those games, you can build a PC for about $750-$1000 and have no problems with those games.

Anybody know headphones that are good for gaming and music?

UnXpected_

But it has to have a pull out microphone. I tried ps3 headphones like this where u can pull the mic out. But I don't like it cause the headphones are uncomfortably big so here's the kind I want

-pull out mic
-small
-comfortable
-under 200
-good with iPod

Answer
headsets (those headphones with mics) are mostly all horrible.

this will be helpful. seriously read the entire thing if you can, it has improved my gaming experience tremendously. (both for immersion and competitive play)
http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/mad-lust-envys-headphone-gaming-guide-updated-4-12-2012-akg-q701-added

my suggestion is buy a cheap clip on mic (for like 5 bucks), the audio technica ad700, and the astro mixamp, which utilizes dolby headphones(converts 5.1+ channels into stereo specifically for headphones). These three should cost just a little over 200 combined. it will sound like the video on the link i provided at the 1:08 minute marker.
Reviews of headphones are also on that page. If you're interested in other headphones, make sure you get one with a good soundstage (like the audio technica ad700) to improve your gaming exprience.

if you really like headsets, then this is the best i can think of.
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-PC-360-Headset-Gaming/dp/B003DA4D2U
theres a review on the first link i provided. You could get the lesser models since its 200ish.

Is this a decent gaming build?

Answer
Everything about the CPU/GPU it is too lame to DX11 game, plus your 450W PSU is weak. If you're on a budget and want to run DX11 games its time to build your own rig, but even then you have to spend more than $600. Intel is the price performance leader, here are a few links and you will see why.

Performance Analysis

With the addition of numbers for the Intel Core i3-2100 and Core i5-2400 in some of our benchmarks, it's plain to see that even with a price cut, the FX-8120 struggles in most of our tests. In very multi-threaded tests such as Cinebench and WPrime, it just about manages to hold its own against the similarly-priced Intel Core i5-2400 - slightly ahead in WPrime, a little behind in Cinebench and noticeably faster than the cheaper Core i3-2100. The Core i5-3570K is much faster in both tests, but then it costs around £30 more.

Our image editing test was a real let down with the FX-8120. It came bottom of the graph, being trounced by a staggering 500 points by the Core i3-2100 - a CPU that costs just £90. Even the ageing AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition was considerably faster while the similarly priced Intel Core i5-2400 was nearly twice as fast. Clearly, if you do any amount of photo editing, the AMD FX-8120 represents particularly poor value.

With eight cores at its disposal, you'd think the FX-8120 might stand a good chance in our video encoding test. Sadly this wasn't to be and its score of 2,150 was over 400 points short of the Core i5-2400. Thankfully for the FX-8120, the Core i3-2100 was noticeably slower, with its two physical and two virtual cores not able to keep up.

Everything started to fall away from the FX-8120 again in our multi-tasking test, where it was yet again at the bottom of the pile, coming 100 points short of the much cheaper Core i3-2100, while the Core i5-2400 was nearly 50% faster - pretty damning result. Overall, it was no surprise to see the FX-8120 rock bottom, bettered by the Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition and Core i3-2100 and trounced by the Core i5-2400.

Our game test lacks data for the two Sandy Bridge CPUs as we tested these some time ago, however, with the Intel Core i5-3570K retailing for just £30-40 more, it's clear from our results that the FX-8120 isn't a great buy for games either. The Intel CPU was 60 per cent faster in Arma II while costing around 30 per cent more - not a bad rate of return if you can afford the extra layout.

Conclusion,

Sadly, its more of the same bad news for AMD or anyone with a Socket AM3+ motherboard looking for a decent CPU for around the £150 mark. The FX-8120 just isn't a good choice when it comes to the kind of applications we run on our PCs. It's regularly outpaced by far cheaper Intel dual-core CPUs, while the similarly-priced Intel Core i5-2400 is significantly faster in many of our tests. It's not all bad news for AMD - before we get accused of being biased towards Intel, we have no qualms recommending the A8-3870K for those looking to build a budget gaming PC, while we also recommend many of its graphics cards.

As it stands, the FX-8120 will have to be a lot cheaper for it to be worth considering over an equivalently-priced Intel setup, while owners of the Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition can rest assured that there aren't any worthwhile upgrades yet.

Help me build a gaming PC?

Matty

Hey, so, I live in UK (please use only UK based retailers or websites for components) I would like to keep costs as low as possible while building a system good enough to run games such as WoW on highest graphics settings with 50+fps.

I studied IT in college for 2 years but it was a general course, not engineering specific so when it came to components we only learned a bit about what everything does, not going into any detail about which is best for certain activities.

I am looking for prefferably 8gb+ RAM and am aware that I would need a 64bit OS for this.
Also 3+ghz CPU, I honestly don't know what multiple cores do.
for cooling I would like, if possible to mix both water cooling with fans, to keep overall temperatures minimal, but not so much cooling that the noise is too loud.
When it comes to graphics cards, sound cards, power supplies and motherboards, I know nothing.

Any extras such as HDDs, monitors and peripherals are not an issue, just the basic components, possible a decent and affordable chasis.

Provided all the components are compatible I will have no problem putting everything together.

Thanks.

Also, a nice screen would be much appreciated if reccomended. :) . Please, i would really appreciate it guys!

Answer
It helps to know where you are as retailers available are different in differing countries, I assume you would be in Europe from your currency. I will try to offer some options here.

Amazon is a popular supplier for many European countries.

If monitor is on a separate budget or not makes a world of difference, for gaming I like a nice 27" monitor.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-VE276N-Widescreen-1920x1080-Performance/dp/B006GYERRG/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1361651290&sr=1-2

Towers that look interesting for the price:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cyberpower-Gaming-Armarda-Windows-Premium/dp/B008YU51DO/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1361650882&sr=1-1

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cyberpower-Gaming-Armarda-Windows-Premium/dp/B008YU5184/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1361650882&sr=1-2

http://www.amazon.co.uk/i5-3570K-GeForce-Graphic-COMPUTER/dp/B0076JAZKI/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1361651501&sr=1-1

http://www.amazon.co.uk/GAMING-INTEL-Generation-DDR5-VGA-DVI-HDMI-DirectX-Lizenzkey/dp/B004LF3NOU/ref=pd_sim_sbs_computers_1

Each has it's pros/cons versus others, obviously the most efficient way to get what you want at the best price is to build your own but that does require a bit of knowledge and there is risk involved in not damaging anything, receiving a bad part from the factory or simply running into an issue and having no one to help you if you don't know someone.

If there are well known custom PC building companies you are familiar with in your area you may want to check out their site, having someone to call for all the answers is important if you don't have the knowledge yourself.

Good luck.
