only thing I'm 100% set on is CPU & SSD

Answer
Sounds good. There are just a few things I would suggest.

1. You can double your SSD size for $50 more. 128 isn't much especially when gaming is concerned.

2. Throw in something along the lines of a at least a 1tb hard drive if you are planning on keeping music, videos, ect on it. Otherwise it sounds good and should get through a while.

3, You may not want to scrimp on the case. Things are made a lot easier with room. And airflow (cooling) is very important.

Best 1000$ gaming pc build 2012?

Title says it all

Answer
Won't be able to tell you yet.

These are scheduled to release 2012:
>Nvidia Kepler has yet to be released.
>Intel Ivy Bridge has yet to be released.
>AMD Piledriver has yet to be released. (Doubt it'll be any good)

However, as of this point the best would be something like:
i7 3970x
High end x79
24gb DDR3
Radeon HD 7970 CrossFireX x2
