How many games have received a 10 from Game Informer in there Monthly Game Informer Magazine?

Yahoo user

I was looking at the 219 issue (July 2011 issue) and I was looking at some of the reviews from past games and I saw multiple 9's, 9.25's, and 9.5's. I have also seen one 9.75 from a recent issue that was as far back as like issue 214 or more recent. The game was a PC game by the way. I have never seen a game receive a 10 though and I was wondering if a game ever did get a 10/10 from Game Informer. I have heard a Uncharted game received a 10 which I wouldn't be surprised if it did since it is a very great game. Anyways, can you provide some links to prove your answer on what games received a 10/10 from Game Informer and thanks in advanced.

Answer
Yes, the second uncharted received a 10/10; I do not know for sure about the first one. I know all 3 God of War games got a 10/10, and Bioshock got a 10/10, as did Metal Gear Solid 4. Starcraft 2 was also a 10 out of 10. Halo 2 and San Andreas were the only tied 10/10s ever, and GTA4 also got a 10/10. I could not find an organized list, however, so I do not know how many more there are. I do know that a Tony Hawk game was the first 10/10 that they gave, though.
Linked their website with proof of one of the 10/10s.

Please need help I need to find computer that a lower price but?

zar

I'm looking for computer that has same hardware has this computer but has much lower price like 1000$. Can anyone here please help find computer like this http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-area51-alx/pd?refid=alienware-area-51-alx&s=dhs&cs=19 but over 1000$. Because I know alienware over there stuff, are ripped offs prices they have. Plus is possible that if I buy computer on ebay that I might get screwed over. Because that's why I'm scared to buy a computer on ebay that's worth a 1000$ but get screwed over by the guy sold the computer and lied about his computer.

Answer
Try something like this for $1000. You will have to build it yourself.
http://gamingrig.blogspot.com/2011/07/1000-gaming-pc-july-2011.html

It will have much better performance than the $3500 spec of the A51.

Need a budget gaming pc?

I've always been a console gamer, but due to a lot of persuasion I've decided to give pc gaming a shot.
Therefore I've set a budget of £400 - £600 to buy a computer. I will also need at the very least; a dual core processor, 4GB RAM, 500GB-1TB hard drive space, an operating system, and a decent graphics card. Peripherals such as a monitor, keyboard and mouse will also be necessary.
If anyone could suggest anything it would be very helpful.

On a separate note, I've found the page "http://uk.geforce.com/optimise/guides/gaming-pc-buyers-guide" which would appear to be quite useful for what I'm looking for.
I just need to know if this is a good idea, and what it would involve (building the pc yourself, or getting any other software which may also be necessary).
I guess I could just re-use my old keyboard, mouse, and monitor, at least for now.
As for your reply, is the link above simlar to what you are saying?

Can someone rate this budget gaming pc?

As for the graphics card, I will get that later...

Is this a decent pc to build? Anything I should change?
Am I better off getting an Intel i3 laptop with dedicated graphics?

Answer
What is your budget?

If you're on a budget, don't get an X6... future proofing won't matter if you get it, because the new CPU (Bulldozer) are AM3+ and use AM3+ motherboards. The Phenom II series is AM3. Also, DO NOT get that case! It comes with a power supply, yeah, but there is no info about it, it is most likely a cheap no name. People often forget, that a power supply is one of the most important parts of your computer. Your power supply fries, your whole system goes down.

If you want to spend about $350 on all parts except PSU and graphics card, you're better off with:

CPU (with the motherboard, you can try to unlock the 4th core):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103886

Motherboard:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130295

Hard Drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148395

Optical Drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204

Power Supply:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371034

Case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119161

RAM:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146748

Make sure you check over it though obviously. Also you want to be sure that the power supply will have enough power for the graphics card you are thinking of getting.

How to get a career/job as a video game tester?

xnakurax

I am going to be a senior in high school and live in La Palma, CA.

I want to know if I can apply for a legitimate job and I want to try to be a game tester. I have had a disease called Mononucleosis which is why I have had bad grades most of High School but transferred to an alternative high school called Independent studies. I will be getting my diploma but I want to get a job asap so I can start earning some money. I am 17 years old but will turn 18 on March, 2013.

I am not a dumb student, in fact I was a straight A student in Elementary-Junior High School but because of my sickness and diagnosis of ADHD, I am at an alternative high school while playing video games most of the time because I enjoy it. Do Video Game Testers play games at home while getting paid? I want to know.

I want to know if there are jobs for PC games because I mostly play PC games, but if there are any game testing jobs for consoles I would like to know that too.

Thanks in advance.

Answer
Every gamer and their dad want to be a game tester. Usually you need to be a friend of the maker or already part of the team. Sometimes you can get an internship somewhere but this is rare. Also game testers make shit for money.

How can I go about finding a company, or someone to raise money or donate a computer to someone?

Shelby

My husband has Cystic Fibrosis, he is almost 24 years old and he was given about a year left to live in July of 2012.

Since then he has been trying to make a bucket list of sorts, things he wants or needs, or just would like to have before he passes. He has been an avid video gamer all his life due to his illness, he was never really able to go outside and play, and as he grew up it just got worse and worse until he's almost completely bedridden. So he has always found solace and happiness in being able to play video games, mainly PC games. I want to be able to buy him a desktop and a laptop for when he has to be admitted to the hospital, and he has to stay for a minimum of 1 month, usually more. This is the only dream he can realistically achieve due to the severity of his illness at this point. (His lung function is less than 18%, he cannot move around much without getting severely out of breath)

He was offered to make a "wish" to the Dream Foundation a few months back, but after all the hype, they haven't really been responding to him anymore, so we're starting to feel that it's a lost cause with them.

I definitely do not have the money to buy the gaming laptop/desktop that he needs, even if I were to save every extra penny, it would take more than a year and it could be too late by then.

So I would be so grateful if there is any information on any computer companies or the like, or any sort of foundation or fund that would be able to do this for him quickly, and not take 5+ months. We would be able to provide proof of his condition, doctor's letters etc as well.. Thanks

Answer
Contact the Elfin Society of GE. They are constantly donating Computer Equipment
Or contact YOUR Church and have them solicit the Gates Foundation, Game Stop, Best Buy and so on..
Also try your local library. Gate foundation is always donating new ones to libraries and olds ones are given away.

What is wrong with my computer?!!!?

Q. Okay so today I was playing a game on the computer. I put the computer in sleep mode for like 20 mins and then when I went back to the computer I tried to click on one of my desktop icons but every time i clicked on an icon it just kept disappearing until I had no more icons left. The task bar even disappeared! So I had nothing left but my wallpaper and when I did CNTRL-ATL-DELETE to get to my login screen, I got an error message. So i held the computer's power button so it can turn off. When unturned it back on it said "DISK BOOT FAILURE". So I got my dad to put the Windows 7 disk in the computer and the setup screen had came up but my dad said it wasn't working. So he kept reinserting the disk and came to the conclusion that the hard drive went out. Now keep in mind. We just got this computer over the summer in 2012 in like June/ July. He literally built the computer with his hands. Nothing was wrong with it until now. Everything is new except the mouse, keyboard, and monitor. We even upgraded to windows 7 from XP like 3 weeks ago. What is wrong which my desktop computer? If the hard drive did go out will my files still be saved on my computer because I didn't even have a chance to back up anything.

SPECS:
DESKTOP Computer
Windows 7
Built the computer over the summer
GIGABYTE computer
( idk much about the computer but this is all the info I know by heart)

Answer
You answered your own question: the computer won't boot.
So either nuke the hard drive and reinstall Windows 7, since it sounds like something in the OS or a sector got messed up, or replace the hard drive.

Gaming Setup Essentials?

James

I have two monitors, one for pc and one for PS4. For the PC I have a quad core, 16gb ram, and a 3gb DDR5 AMD 7950. Peripherals: Razer Black Widow Ultimate 2013, Razer DeathAdder 2013, Steel Series Mouse Pad, Astro A40'S. I have AC4, BF4, CoD Ghosts and KillZone for the PS4. I was wondering if there was anything else I need/could have.
What is a good size SSD. Always was looking in to getting those, I have one with 128gb but I'm not sure if thats big enough.

Answer
I don't know what you were trying say "quad core" not much to know about your processor but it is probably good enough it seems like a good setup but if you are rolling in cash always concider upgrading graphics i just got a GTX 780 and i can play BF4 on 120fps on ULTRA maybe get SLI going double your graphics output if you're badass enough...
yeah.. i'll leave now sorry....

How's this gaming/editing PC setup?

Nikolai

Hello, I made a similar question to this but since then I updated the components and parts to the rig and want a little more information. Here is the setup I will be building during the summer or september-november.
CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-cores - $199.99
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100 - $105.91
Thermal Compound: Arctic Cooling MX-2 65g - $39.99
Motherboard: Asus SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 ATX AM3+ - $179.00
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 - $92.99
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM - $92.11
SSD: OCZ Agility 4 256GB 2.5" SSD - $191.99
Video card: EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW 2GB - $369.99
Case: Corsair 650D ATX Mid Tower Case - $179.99
PSU: Corsair AX750 - $149.99
Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224BB DVD/CD Writer - $15.99
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) - $179.98
Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 Wired Gaming Keyboard - $131.00
Mouse: Razer DeathAdder Wired Optical Mouse - $59.99
Monitor: BenQ XL2420T 120Hz 24.0" Monitor 5MS - $389.99
How cheap will these components and parts get by the mid-end of the year?
Will these components and parts be playing the latest games at max settings at 1920x1080?
How long will these components last until I need to upgrade or build an entirely new PC?
How well would this run for video editing?
Would I need to replace the thermal paste on the H100 a few times through the years or through the months?
How hot will my PC get?
Is this a good PC rig for competitive PC gaming? (Competitive Counter-Strike, BF3, COD, Dota 2, etc.)
Thanks!

Answer
you have a good, expensive build. some items could be found in similar, much less expensive versions, though if money is no matter, then get what you have listed.

items to consider less expensive versions:
CPU cooler - if you are not overclocking, a stock cooler is fine; even if you do overclock, a good heatsink/fan combo is ~$30, so no need for $100+ setups
Thermal Compound - 65g = 2+ POUNDS! how many computers are you setting up?!?!?
Motherboard - get a similar spec'd model for ~$100
HDD - no point in getting a faster "Black" spec as you already have an SSD for your main/boot drive
Monitor - a similar, slightly smaller 23" would cost about half

regarding your specific questions at the end:
- you will be able to run any game at high settings and this will not change for a while as you are buying top tier items.
- no, you will never have to replace the thermal paste on your heatsink UNLESS you take it off and remount it.

I need a link to a high-end gaming PC company.?

icefox

I'm trying to prove a point about mac computers, if you can call them that. I need the name of a company that makes high end gaming PCs. like voodoo or falcon NW. Are there any others, I'm trying to demonstrate that taking up as little space as possible doesn't make it a good system. I often refer to Macs as big calculators.

Normally I should know, but I built my own comp, and I think I need a brand name to fight mac.

Please, if you have mac, and support mac computers, don't respond, you wont convince me or anybody else.

Answer
IceFox-

I build gaming machines, mainly as a hobby but I also build them for friends and family.

You don't need a brand name to fight Mac-N-Trash, you just have to understand that those crappy machines are like Dell, Gateway, HP, and all Laptops.

Here is the scoop. My uncle, (now retired), used to work for Dell Computers.

Mac's like the others are what we call Turn Key Systems. Basically they are for novice users that do not know how to build solid systems. So they have a company built machine that has a life of about 2.5 years before upgrades become necessary.

Since you build computers too, you already know what i am about to say is true. These companies, like Mac-N-Trash rope people into a system that is just enough to get them over the hump. Then as it always happens, the best friend comes over with the "Game" and the system will barely run it, or Windows will throw up a message stating there are not enough resources available to operate this program.

I used to build machines to what people would claim they were going to use the system for. "Oh mainly just the internet and some word processing, simple record keeping, you know."

Yep so you build this machine:

Intel Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz Processor w/ 533 Fsb.
Asus 848P Chipset Mobo
40 Gb Hdd
512 Mb PC-2700 Memory
ATI Radeon 2600 PRO Vid-Card
Sound-Blaster 2.1 Live Sound Card.

Just enough to give them a little overhead for say HALO, and that is about it, right?

Yeah, buddy brings over Doom 3 does the install, and bingo, Computer is Bogus.

So now you get then phone call, "Hey my machine won't play this game. What will it take to make it play this game?"

"Well sir, this is what you are going to need, but here is what I would recommend, its going to be a $1100.00 upgrade for your system."

"WHAT!!!!!!!!???????? I'm Calling DELL!"

Then he calls the computer manufacturer and find that they no longer support his old system, and they recommend this other newer system, (that still won't play Doom 3), but is about the same price I quoted him to "upgrade".

Ok now that is with the PC owners.

Mac-N-Trash is a whole different ball game. To upgrade a Mac, you deposit it in the trash, (the whole computer), including keyboard, mouse, monitor, printer and CPU then buy a whole new system that costs twice what the old one did. Then you rinse and repeat as the newer models come out.

The difference with PC's vs. Mac's is the fact you can build the base part of your computer ahead of the curve, use some of your older hardware, and upgrade it as necessary, until your base parts cannot be upgraded.

For example. Here is my current machine.

AMD Athlon X64 4400+ Toledo Processor, (Socket 939)
Asus A8V-E SE Motherboard
4Gb A-Data PC-3200 LL RAM
MaxCool 700 Watt PSU
250 Gb Hitachi Deskstar HDD, (U-ATA 133)
160 Gb Hitachi Deskstar HDD, (U-ATA133)
Creative Sound-Blaster XF-I Gamer Series Sound Card
PNY Technologies nVidia 8800GTS PCI Express 16 Vid Card
BFG Technologies Ageia Phis-x Card
Lite-On DVD/CD RW RAM Drive
Sun Microsystems 19 Inch Graphics Rendering Monitor, (CRT).
XClio Turbine 230 Case
Microsoft Sidewinder Gaming Laser 1800Dpi Mouse
Saitek Eclipse Keyboard
Saitek Cyborg EVO Joystick
Creative 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers.

Yes some of the things I have in this system are cutting edge, but many of the hardware items are behind the curve. However, my system is 64 bit ready, and I am only running a 32 bit Operating System with Windows XP Professional.

The Motherboard and Processor are still going to operate Windows Vista just fine, same with the Memory, the system is SATA Drive Ready, so any time I need to upgrade, I can do that with out an issue. Its just a matter of purchasing parts.

You cannot do that with a premanufactured computer. Even a Mac. So much of the system is proprietary you are litterally forced into purchasing their parts, or upgrading your system completely.

Now do I have customized parts on this machine? You bet!

But if you take that same parts list and give it to Dell, Gateway or any of the others, you are going to be looking at a system that will cost you nearly $4000.00 to purchase.

I built this entire system for about $1500.00.

It will do anything I throw at it. Play games, movies, burn DVD's, burn CD's, surf the net, whatever I want.

My point?

Build the gaming machine and you will never get a call back asking to have an upgrade later.

My secret?

www.newegg.com

If you haven't shopped there, you haven't shopped for electronics!

Fried Electronics cannot even beat them!

As for the Mac Users, out there reading this, don't bother to send me any of your opinions. Been there, seen it, got the T-Shirt. There is a reason Mac's have a bite out of the Apple. That is the chunk they took out of your booty when you bought it!

Oh, yeah just for the record, the PSU is on its 2nd System, the HDD's are on their 6th system, the Memory is on its 2nd System, the Optical drive, 7th system, the HDD cables, 15th system, Monitor 4th System, Keyboard, 3rd System, Case, 2nd System, Mouse, 2nd System, Joystick, 6th System, Motherboard, Processor, Vid Card, 1st System, sound card 2nd System.

The other system that the majority of this Hardware came from was upgraded from a P-4 2.4 Ghz then to a P-4 3.0E Ghz System. Everything else has seen AMD 80486 DX-66-2 systems, Pentium 1, 2, 3, 1st Gen P-4. Try doing that with old Mac Parts!

Personally, if they just stick to their I-POOD they will have a good thing. But I would say that Creative is going to give them a run for their money in short order in that department too.

I hope that helps!

Best custom gaming pc company?

Zach

I want to buy a gaming pc for about 1000$
Is www.ibuypower.com a good company?
Name other companys that are good and you can customize the computer.

Answer
Your best bet for custom built gaming PCs is to either do it yourself or have someone you personally know build it for you. However, if you're set on buying on built by a company it won't be truly custom (you'll choose from options) your best bets are probably (sadly) still Alienware (even though they were bought out by Dell).

As for below Alienware, they all fall pretty close to one another. You should honestly just try and find the fastest (newest chip set) processor and moderately good graphics card and you should be okay. Depending on your OS (32bit or 64 bit) your computer might only recognize 4 GB of RAM so anything above that could be wasted money. Keep things like that, and you can get great quality out of non-top of the line parts, and you'll be fine.

Where can I share my video game ideas?

Gryphon Ki

I really want to make computer video games such as, world of warcraft. I have really great ideas but I need to know how I can share my ideas or even make my own pc games.... Any suggestions?

Answer
There are three possible ways to get a game made from your idea:
1. Get in touch with a heavy hitter in the game making industry and convince him or her that your game is worthwhile. He or she will then set the wheels in motion for your idea to be bought and developed. (This is highly unlikely although it has happened on rare occasions) Companies will occasionally buy video game ideas and keep them for future potential projects.
2. Get in touch with independent developers with game design skills and get them to come on board with your idea. You have the ability to allow them to patch together their time in developing your game. Gamedev.net is a good place to network and find people for this endeavor.
3. Spearhead the development yourself. Learn some basic game making skills and put together a group of people willing to spend time (and money) on your game. You become the evangelist for the game and the Project Manager. (This is the best option if you want to succeed and it answers the question of who is going to do all the work - You!)

Protecting your Idea

You probably have questions about your idea and how to protect it from being stolen. Well, I guess this is a possibility and maybe it has happened but it is unlikely. It goes back to the fact that it takes thousands of hours to take a game from idea to actual game and the number of unique ideas is relatively unlimited but here are some things you can do to get started in protecting yourself.

The Problem of Copyrighting Ideas

Ideas cannot be copyrighted! It sounds funny but itâs true. You can research this on the official government copyright website. So, just having an idea means you have very little. If you draw pictures of your game and hopefully develop your idea into a game you can get copyright for those things. In any case here is some help with protecting yourself.

Send yourself a letter!

Put together an exhaustive package of materials about your idea. Include a summary, pictures, drawings and anything else that will describe your idea then seal it in an envelope and mail it to yourself registered mail. When you receive it you sign for it but do not open it. Leave it sealed. This gives you an amount of legal protection that establishes a time line for your idea.

NDA's (Non Disclosure Agreements)

A Non disclosure agreement is a legal contract between two parties. In this case it is between you and the person you want to reveal your idea to. It can be a useful tool that will help you protect your rights. Generally it outlines the confidentiality of your idea and prohibits the other party from using the idea. If you are serious about your idea you should do some research on NDA's and even speak with a lawyer about them. Outside of the United States these agreements are often referred to as Confidentiality Agreements and sometimes they are referred to as Secrecy agreements or Confidential Disclosures (CD's).

Okay letâs get started with something solid you can do
No matter which of the three paths you want to travel down there are some things that you can do to get your idea rolling on its path toward becoming a real video game.

1.Write out a very extensive overview of the game. Make it as detailed as possible. And put this in the package you mail to yourself!
2.Draw up pictures and artwork of game scenes, characters, maps and anything else that is unique about the game. In effect you are creating a library of images in the game. Put this in your package too!
3.Write up an executive summary - This is a one or two page summary of the game idea and it outlines the things that make it unique. This is your introduction to people in the gaming industry and it is the first thing you can give them so they get a grasp of your idea (of course you would get an NDA first!)
4.Start your research into the game industry. Hang around forums where developers and game makers chat and start learning about what it takes to make a game. You can make some good contacts and there are hordes of people willing to give you solid advice and some help with your dream. gamedev.net is a great place to start
5.Start learning how to make a video game! It is totally possible for a person with average computer skills to develop a single level of a game or a portion of a game. This can be used as a calling card and example for what the game would be about.

PC Game Cards?

Vampire Br

I was wondering if someone could explain about PC game cards for me. My Main question is:

1: Should I delete some other games on my computer like 'Hoyle Card Games', 'Bejeweled', or 'Wheel of Fortune', if would stop freezing during 'Fable: The Lost Chapters', or maybe even 'Warcraft' which I can't play at all.
Guess nobody knows nothing about computers
Okay, Jim H. (as I believe you name is), if you want points then don't answer question unless you are actually useful to that someone. Otherwise you are just a pain in the a** . Plain and simple. And Kasey C, thanks for much more useful information, mainly about existing games. It helps more when people actually answers.

Answer
The problem is you are asking several different questions.

"PC Game Cards" means something completely different from "card games" or whatever other games you mentioned later. Thus, mentioning it seems to serve no purpose other than to confuse the issue.

Deleting existing games will not help other games run better, unless you are VERY VERY short on hard drive space.

I'm afraid you'll need some basic PC orientation before you can formulate proper questions regarding your PC problems.

Best computer for gaming and drawing? Under $1000?

HONK!

I might get a new computer for Christmas cuz the one I have is old and getting chewed by viruses but I'm wondering which on is the best. I'm looking for a computer under $500 or less. I go on the internet a lot and play a lot of games. I play the Sims (1 and 2 all expansion packs), Zoo Tycoon (1 and maybe 2), Roller Coaster Tycoon (2 and 3, all expansion packs) BioShock (1 and 2) maybe a couple of games more and RuneScape. I download additional items from the internet, too. I don't play new games like WoW or Diablo.
I don't want to use a computer COMPLETELY for gaming. I want to use it for other stuff like Microsoft Word for school. I like to draw too...

I maybe asking too much, but I wonder which computer will be perfect for all this? Thank u so much for answering!

P.S. it doesn't have to come with a monitor, mouse, speakers, keyboard, etc.

BUILD ONE!
For $1,000 or maybe up to $1,200 you can make yourself a very good, almost top edge gaming PC:

BEST GAMING DESKTOP PC BUILD FOR THE MONEY (under $1,000.00USD for the tower only)
Monitor, keyboard and mouse can add from $175 to over $500, depending on size and model you want.
All prices are in $USD and in the USA, current as of December 2012 and they might be slightly different one way or the other by now.
Also, some shipping charges may apply to some of the items.
Add your state sales tax if you reside in NJ, CA or TN - that's where Newegg has warehouses.
Look for similar parts on Amazon, Tiger Direct, etc if you want to avoid paying Uncle Sam.

GAMING PC components compatability?

Jules M

hi all im trying to build a pc and was wondering if you think the parts are compatible.... i have looked up myself but would hate it if i found after buying it that it was not compatible... heres what i have planned,

case: lian li pc-a17a - black

mobo: Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe Motherboard AM2 AMD 790FX/SB600 ATX RAID SATA LAN

cpu: AMD PHENOM X4 9650 2.3GHZ SKT AM2 4MB 95W PIB

gpu: Sapphire ATI Radeon HD4850 512MB PCI-E Graphics Card

ram: 4GB kit (2GBx2), Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-6400 memory module

basically i think they are compatible but am not sure... i have all the optical drives and hard drive sorted out but im not sure about the psu.... i have been told that i need a 1000W in pc world, then a 600w in maplin and a 400w last time i asked on this?!?! i cant see any details on the motherboard or anything and cant really work it out?! can anyone help? im sortof on a budget so want to keep price as low as possible but want my components to be at their best.. and noise is not an issue

thanks

cheers scottie i agree with the mobo but theres always space to upgrade! thanks for the advice... 600w... is there anyting else to consider? i know i should get a 24 pin but is there anything like ampage?

Answer
Let's start with the "Building Block' of a computer. Your building block is the Asus M3A32-MVP. I know it has a PCI-Express x16 slot, and it's the PCI-Express 2.0 version. But lets go to Asus's website (Asus.com/Support), and get the facts.
http://support.asus.com/default.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
I'm going to download the PDF Motherboard Manual, so I know exactly what the motherboard will support,
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
(It's the Version E3455, should you wish to take a look. I used the Global download. The China download was going to take too long)

Page xi, tells you under Cpu support, that this mobo (Motherboard) supports Phenom X4. (You're good to go!)

Under the Memory heading it tells you it supports DDR2 at 800MHz.
Crucial's Ballistic is a good PC-6400 ram. You have Four ram slots, and each one has a 2GB Maximum Amount for ram. (You're good to go!)

You have Four PCI-Express x16 slots. These are the PCI-Express 2.0 version.
Be aware that if you install Two graphics cards, each one run's at 16x.
If you install Three graphics cards, One run's at 16x, and the other Two at 8x. (This is normal)
If you install Four graphics cards, all Four run at 8x, and you should adopt me! lol! Wish I had the money for FOUR graphics cards!)

So that pretty well does it. You can check pages 2, 3, 13, 14, 15,
(Wait until you see page 18!), 22, and 23, for more direct info on your listed hardware.

1000 watt Psu? Somebody's on crack!
The mobo takes about 150 watts.
The Phenom uses 95 watts->Max. (Look at your description. See the 95W?)
An AMD ATI Radeon HD4850 takes ->450 watts, and this includes the rest of the system. They never list a graphics card wattage usage, without listing what the entire system needs. Ain't NO graphics card gonna' use 450 WATTS! They base the wattage on a spec system setup. They use a pretty 'LAID-OUT' system, to try to encompass a lot of different system builds, that people could do. Doesn't cover them all. You should look online for a Power Supply Wattage Calculator, and base it off of that. There are free ones that work, besides the ones that want to sell you their version.
Thing that I believe you may want to consider, is what you will be doing in the future. I don't see the need of TWO graphics cards, or FOUR, but I'm not you! Is this in your immediate future? Better get a Psu that will run them now, IF you can afford it. I use the 'Best Bang for the Buck' theory. What you have listed right now, will Slam-it-to-the-wall, for games!
(I wouldn't go above a 600 watt Psu. When judging what Psu you should use, one should look at the possible Maximum wattage needed, then add 10% more wattage. This keeps the Psu from running so hard, and, I believe, increases the longevity of it)
Just make sure the Psu has a PCI-Express 6-pin power cable. This shouldn't be a problem as just about all new Psu's do! You need one that has 75 watts. Volts times Amps= Watts. 120 volts times .625 amps =75 watts. That's less than 1 Amp!
My example of a good 600 watt Psu? http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3622549&CatId=1483 (This one has TWO 12 volts rails. 21 Amps for one, and 22 Amps for the other one. This is 43 Amps for the 12 volts rail. WAY more than you need! (You know a computer only uses the wattage it needs. No MORE, no less|!)
I am a little apprehensive, about using a Quad Core for games at present. There isn't that many games, that have been written to fully utilize all four cores. They ARE coming out, however, and Quad Core is the future! It will be the norm for games before you know it! (Maybe I need to 'Man Up', and come into the future! lol! I am an old biker,so this won't be a problem)

What Components to build a custom gaming pc?

gazs1

Im looking to build a custom gaming pc at a reasonable price however i am an amateur and im not sure what is compatible with what can someone assist with a list of top class compoments to build a great pc - many thanks

Answer
If you are new to this, I recommend doing some research 1st. There are many things to consider when building a PC, 1st is budget. How to get the most performance out the money you have to spend. You can make a "respectable" budget gaming PC for less than $1,000 U.S. or get top of the line everything for $3,000+. It varies greatly.

If I were to build today and wanted a "crushing" gamer that is still "somewhat" affordable, this is what I would build:

Motherboard:
ASUS Crosshair IV Formula

CPU
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T 3.2GHz

Memory:
G Skil Ripjaws Series CL7 8Gig

Case:
Antec 900 Gamer Case

Power Supply:
Antec CP-1000 1000w PSU

Solid State Drive
Micron RealSSD C300 SATA III 128 Gig

Hard Drive:
Western Digital Velociraptor 1TB

Blu-Ray/DVD/CD ROM - Burner:
Plextor Model PX-B940SA SW

Video
Radeon HD 5970 or* 2X Radeon HD 5850s

OS
Windows 7 64 Bit Premium

That is using a little bit of restraint and it would kill anyting you threw at it.

If you wanted something close and save a lot of money...

Substitute:
1 - Antec 300 case instead of 900
2. Delete the Solid State Drive
3. Only get 4 Gig of memory
4. Only 1 Radeon 5850 Vid card
6. Just get a simple $25.00 DVD Burner
7. Get a smaller Antec 750w PSU
8. Get an ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 motherboard instead.
9. The AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 processor.

Those substitutions will save $100s and still "Game" very well.

Best gaming computer under 600 dollars?

Joe

It needs to be able to run minecraft over 125 fps, have fast internet, good memory, play other games great too, it doesn't matter whether it is a laptop or a desktop just as long as it meets my requirements.

Answer
If you want a killer gaming pc then increase your budget a bit, around $1000 will buy you a nice gaming pc which can run almost any game available at decent fps.

Following is config i would suggest(I own this config pc and i know it runs everything so good)

Intel Core i5-3570K Quad-Core Processor 3.4 GHz 4 Core ($209.99)
Nvidia Geforce GTX 660, GDDR 5, 2 GB, PCI 3 ($200)
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (1x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz ($66.98)
BenQ VA LED GW2255 21.5-Inch Screen LED-lit Monitor ($130.77)
Corsair Builder Series CX 600 Watt ATX/EPS 80 PLUS (CX600) ($66.24)
A compatible mother board and other things will cost around another 200$

And if you want to stick with 600$ budget then compromise on few things.
Intel Core i3-2120 Dual-Core Processor 3.3 GHz 3 MB Cache LGA 1155 ($122.37)
Nvidia Geforce GTX 650, GDDR 5, 1 GB, PCI 3 ($109.99$)
Corsair Vengeance 4GB (1x4GB) DDR3 1600 MHz ($ 38)
Corsair Builder Series CX 600 Watt ATX/EPS 80 PLUS (CX600) ($66.24)
BenQ GL2055 20-Inch LED-lit Monitor ($89.99)
A compatible mother board and other things will cost around another 200$

Note: All prices are from Amazon, so it is possible you might get some parts for lower price from your local retailer.

decent pc tower under 600 dollars?

the amster

ok im not big on computers but im gettin there im lookin for a tower that can play games like team fortress 2 left for dead 2 all that good stuff but nothing fancy under 600 $$$ like i said thanks for the help
im sorry i 4got but here are the things i need to play the games Supported OS: Windows® 7 / Vista / Vista64 / XP
Processor: Intel core 2 duo 2.4GHz
Memory: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista
Graphics: DirectX 9 compatible video card with Shader model 3.0. NVidia 7600, ATI X1600 or better
Hard Drive: At least 7.5 GB of free space
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card
Recommended: Pentium 4 processor (3.0GHz, or better), 1GB RAM, DirectX® 9 level Graphics Card, Windows® Vista/XP/2000, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

Answer
I can only recommend a built tower with the parts. I will not now, nor ever, recommend a brand-in-a-box for gaming. Here's the list:

CPU - AMD Phenom II X3 710 2.6GHz Triple-Core: $110
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103648
Motherboard - ECS Black Series A780GM-A: $60 ($40 after $20 mail-in rebate)

RAM - 4GB PQI Turbo DDR2 667: $86
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820141240
Hard Drive - 320GB WD SATA: $48
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136098
Video Card - GeForce 9500 GT: $55 ($35 after $20 mail-in-rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162019&cm_re=9500_gt-_-14-162-019-_-Product
Optical Drive - LG 22X DVD-RW: $27
Case/PSU - Logisys Black/Silver Case w/480W Power Supply: $30
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811148045
OS - Windows 7 Professional OEM: $140 (Pro has an XP mode which might prove useful with some games.)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116758&cm_re=windows_7_pro_oem-_-32-116-758-_-Product

Total: $556 (-$40 in mail-in rebates to ECS and Galaxy)

This exceeds your specs to make the games run well as opposed to just running. :-)

It seems that a previous poster forgot to include Windows 7. That's not good. I also don't know about that PCUSA company. That price looks too good to be true and I've been around PCs for over 20 years and I've never heard of them. I read their company statement and whoever wrote that sure doesn't have English as their first language.

Best gaming laptops under $1000?

Whoop

Also, should I avoid Windows 8? Would I be better off with a desktop (portability isn't too important to me)?

Answer
Hey, that is a great question, thanks for coming to answers, I hope this information helps.

Most reliable laptop brands: the results

Apple tops the list, as might be expected from such a premium PC builder. Apple products are far from cheap, but they do offer a quality experience. Runner up Dell has a very different business model. It, like other high-ranking brands HP and Asus, operates as a volume laptop maker, selling many thousands of laptops every week. We would expect to see them, and Lenovo, high up in our list because they sell so many PCs: but their higher ranking suggests a lot of satisfied customers.

Apple: 19%
Dell: 12%
Asus: 11%
HP: 11%
Acer: 9%
Lenovo: 9%
Toshiba: 9%
Samsung: 7%
Sony: 6%
Alienware: 3%
Fujitsu: 1%
MSI: 1%
Panasonic: 1%
I do not agree with this. But this was the results of a large survey...

what is the best laptop under 1000$ for 2013 ?

Ahmed

Hello !!

I would like to know what is the best laptop under 1000$

I need a laptop mostly for College using like gaming , browsing and using Photoshop cs6 .
I need it to run BF , crysis , GTA IV .... ETC

about the specs

HDD: not less than 640~750 GB
RAM : not less than 6GB
Screen : not less than 15.6
Have a backlit keyboard
Display : Anything that works great will be fine :) i don't care if it's 1080p or 720p

Stuffs that is really important for me :
High build
Good battery life : i really don't want it to be like 1~2h , like min 3~4h is great :D

I don't really mind running some games in mid or even low , well if it runs great without lag , then that's all i need , beside most of the games still looks good even in low .

What i do really care is it to have low issues , high performance and to last long .

Thank you .

Answer
I would go with ASUS or HP. ASUS has the best warranty when it comes to laptops. Some of their models come with a two year warranty with a one year accidental warranty. HP can give you a reliable best bang for the buck laptops or they can give you give you a superior system if you step up in their high end systems. One of the ASUS is above your price point but it can play all the games you want.

ASUS laptop.

Brand buying advise

You get what you pay for. Systems with high end parts with low prices are to be viewed with suspicion. They have to cut corners somewhere to get the price down. What cost you less today is going to cost you more tomorrow.

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Ultrabooks are the higher end of Wintel laptops but they have some of the same concerns as Apple. They make it next to impossible to change any hardware in them. Service of them will have to be done by the manufacturers. With most of them, you can not change your own battery or hard drive. They are designed to catch your eye but they are not any more special then other laptops except for the fact that they are slim or thin. Your paying for it being thin and slim. For the money your going to spend on it you can buy a much better laptop with more power.

Hybrids are the worse of the worse. The flip or detachable touch screens are just a disaster waiting to happen.

Never buy an All In One. They are far worst then laptops of any kind to service and they have a higher failure rate.

Choose wisely.

Looking for a new gaming PC?

Im looking for a new gaming PC, nothing too expensive I really only want this PC for World Of Warcraft. I dont need a super GOOD one I just need one thatll run World of Warcraft fine. No laptop just a PC thatll run WoW maybe 1000 1250$ dollar range

Answer
i think above poster is being sarcastic.

alienware is ok if money is no object, but value for money is poor.

get a reasonable dell and pop in your own video card. you can get quite a good dell for near the 900 mark then use 150-200 on the video card. that way you don't pay the dedicated gaming pc premium.

Is IBUYPOWER a good gaming pc?

Leonidas13

So I want to start playing games on the pc because I heard it's better. So I asked my mom to get me one for my birthday and she found one from IBUYPOWER. Is this a good company or are we wasting our money? I read that it will freeze often and is too much money. So what would you suggest I get?

Answer
Well, ibuypower is an O.K dealer. It's definitely the best value when ordering gaming PCs online (companies like Alienware are very overpriced) - but there are some reports of some poor packaging and sometimes poor assembly. Even though that's the case, they're generally well reviewed and I ALWAYS recommend ibuypower or CyberPower gaming PCs if you're not willing to build your own.

How to build a gaming pc?

I am considering getting a pc mainly for gaming (I would still use it for other things of course), but I do not want to spend over 600 dollars. For that budget, shoud I just get the ps4 or xbox one? If not, then where do I start?

Answer
PC gaming is different to console gaming.
There are more games for consoles than PC, but PC gaming is a bit quicker and more flexible/dexterous. Can also be more technical depending on the game.

Recommend some good PC games for me?

Got myself some extra money and I'm thinking of spending it on some PC games. I don't care what kind of genre, just wanted it to be fun to play with. Doesn't have to be a new game, or popular. Personally hoping it's the kind of game that have a high replay value.

Any suggestions are deeply appreciated.

Answer
Hello,
If you have a good graphic card then you should play Grand theft auto 4,Call of Duty Black Ops ,Call of Duty MW3,Need for Speed Hot pursuit (2010),Need For Speed The Run,Ghost Recon Future Soldier,Battlefield 3,Saints Row the Third and many other games
If you don't have good graphic card or you don't have graphic card but your built-in memory is good then
You should go for Left for Dead 1 and 2,Crysis,Call of Duty 4,Need for Speed Most Wanted

Many awesome upcoming games are:
Fifa 13,Need for Speed Most Wanted (2012),Call of Duty Black Ops 2,Dead Space 3,Bio-shock infinite and Grand Theft Auto 5.

i will buy in cristmax a
i5 2500K 3,3Ghz
8GB ram
HD: 1TB
radeon hd 6770 1Gb
btw it will be a deskopt pc
i will be able to play games like gta 5 and 2012-2014 released propertly?

Answer
GTA5 on a 6770 1GB? No chance. GTA4 can use well over 1GB of graphics memory and it's 3 years old. The rest of your spec is fine, but i'd go for a 6950 2GB - they're still about the best value at the moment for performance vs. price. If GTA4 is anything to go by, 5 will punish whatever the latest graphics cards are whenever it comes out anyway.

You haven't mentioned what chipset you're going for - make sure it's a Z68, as this will allow you to make use of the Quick Sync feature of the i5 as well. Keep an eye on the prices of SSDs - with the prices of standard HDDs having about doubled lately, now may be a good time to invest, even if it's just a smaller capacity model to use as a boot drive.

EDIT:
@Aayush:
You are full of crap, dude.
Almost all games would only use up to two cores, there is no need for 6cores, also AMD FX sucks for gaming, nothing equals the per core speed and power of Intel Core i series, the i3-3220 is the best budget gaming processor at $130, much better than any AMD FX "Faildozer" in the same price range will ever be.

Asker (PsycoPanda):
NO
Processor is outdated and low end.

For under $750 build this:

Yahoo answers will only allow up to 10 links, so I have to leave out the not so important components. Just copy paste in the search field on Newegg to find them, I will give the full name but no link for those.

BEST BUDGET GAMING DESKTOP PC BUILD FOR THE MONEY (under $750.00USD for the tower only)
Monitor, keyboard and mouse can add from $175 to over $500, depending on size and model you want.

PC hardware and PC gaming questions?

Wyatt Bunt

I have 3 question (a lot, I know right?) the first is, is it safe to use a computer with the side pannel removed and a desk fan blowing on the hardware so it doesn't overheat? Second is, would I be able to do some moderate gaming on an AMD Athlon II x4 650 (3.2ghz) for a few months? I would replace it eventually. Last is, is the SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6770 an okay card for modrate gaming? I don't mind playing on medium settings. Thanks for the help!!!

Answer
for your first question, removing the side panel and letting a desk fan blow on the hardware is fine, i also have done that before, the only downside to it is that your system will be filled with dust and so you are required to clean it once in a while.

second, your AMD Athlon II x4 650 (3.2ghz) is good enough for gaming and besides the GPU is the major factor that determines good gaming (games are 75% GPU dependent).

and last, the SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6770 is a good mid range card that would enable you to play all games at mid settings, it is currently ranked #45 in benchmark tests, here is the link :

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Radeon+HD+6770

BTW, the power requirement of the 6770 is 450w so a 550w +80 corsair PSU is ideal.

I need a gaming pc that will come to 900$ MAX with monitor and OS included?

sharebear4

So i'm trying to build a gaming PC. And all the builds I like that i've made come to 1,000 or more with the monitor and OS (windows 7) so I need a build that will come to 800-900 total with the monitor and windows 7 included. Games i'll be playing... Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2, and Elder scrolls online whenever it comes out and maybe Skyrim and the Total War games.
I've done alot of research already lol that's why I need a build! Someone give me their build please

Answer
I made you this build that comes out to EXACTLY $900 that has a 20' LED monitor and and I managed to add a cpu cooler so that you could overstock your i5 that I put in there. This is a really nice build and I'm surprised I was able to get it for that price. This is a really good gaming computer for the money. I hope you enjoy the build I made you and I hope you are able to do something with it. If you need it cheaper just take off the cpu cooler and that will save you $25.

PC Monitor vs TV for gaming?

Charlie

Basically I'm looking for a screen I can use for gaming on a Xbox and for watching films etc. I originally looked for a TV but all the decent TVs nowadays have all this smart wifi rubbish and you can't really get a decent small non smart TV with a refresh rate good enough for gaming. So I was wondering if I would get better value for money by getting a PC monitor instead. If so any good models you suggest?

Answer
A lot of pro gamers use computer monitors for gaming instead of TVs. the reason for this is the response time, sometimes the TV's cause lag, but Computer Monitors don't that is why pros use the monitor. Plus some people don't like big TVs because you gotta keep turning your head. I you want to use a computer monitor i would go with a good one that isn't to cheap but isn't to expensive, and make sure you get a size that you are comfortable with.

This website explains the lag and game mode purposes on TVs.
