Buy a new Mac or used Mac to get OS X 10.8?

Windows 8 RTM is expected to be sent out at anytime now, and the most recent features kill me. I'm an avid iPhone fan and OS X 10.8 brings allot of features from iOS that make it easier for me because I own an iPhone. It's always been tough for me to use OS X, and I expect this to be no different, but if I have no choice but to use of Mac 24/7, then I'll have to learn it. I am indeed hardwired for Windows having used it for more than 9 years starting with an old Windows ME, but I feel like OS X Mountain Lion is better for me. So what is the best option? Buy an older Mac (I have a list of 10.8 compatible Macs!) or just wait around, and beg, and plead for a new Mac?

why buy a Mac? when the computer your using now can do the same things, You need to remember one thing, there is No difference between a Mac and a Dell they all use the same Intel components. Mac OS/x like windows is only a operating system both controls the limitations of the Users/

There are other operating systems that are Free and far more superior, They are Faster Stable Secure, and yes they do communicate with the iPhone, There is one particular Free operating system I have in mind that will let you have any windows and Mac desktops at the click of the mouse button, You could pick windows 2000, Vista, Xp windows 7 or Mac OS/x desktop or use several other Linux desktops

All the software is professional and free, with over 38,600 packages to pick from, and somewhere around 1,050 games, What I'm saying is Mac and windows are not the only game in town, Take a look for your self, you can watch videos on youtube that show you what some of these operating systems can do that Mac and Microsoft can only dream about,

How can I go about finding a company, or someone to raise money or donate a computer to someone?

My husband has Cystic Fibrosis, he is almost 24 years old and he was given about a year left to live in July of 2012.

Since then he has been trying to make a bucket list of sorts, things he wants or needs, or just would like to have before he passes. He has been an avid video gamer all his life due to his illness, he was never really able to go outside and play, and as he grew up it just got worse and worse until he's almost completely bedridden. So he has always found solace and happiness in being able to play video games, mainly PC games. I want to be able to buy him a desktop and a laptop for when he has to be admitted to the hospital, and he has to stay for a minimum of 1 month, usually more. This is the only dream he can realistically achieve due to the severity of his illness at this point. (His lung function is less than 18%, he cannot move around much without getting severely out of breath)

He was offered to make a "wish" to the Dream Foundation a few months back, but after all the hype, they haven't really been responding to him anymore, so we're starting to feel that it's a lost cause with them.

I definitely do not have the money to buy the gaming laptop/desktop that he needs, even if I were to save every extra penny, it would take more than a year and it could be too late by then.

So I would be so grateful if there is any information on any computer companies or the like, or any sort of foundation or fund that would be able to do this for him quickly, and not take 5+ months. We would be able to provide proof of his condition, doctor's letters etc as well.. Thanks

Contact the Elfin Society of GE. They are constantly donating Computer Equipment
Or contact YOUR Church and have them solicit the Gates Foundation, Game Stop, Best Buy and so on..
Also try your local library. Gate foundation is always donating new ones to libraries and olds ones are given away.

The task bar even disappeared! So I had nothing left but my wallpaper and when I did CNTRL-ATL-DELETE to get to my login screen, I got an error message. So i held the computer's power button so it can turn off. When unturned it back on it said "DISK BOOT FAILURE". So I got my dad to put the Windows 7 disk in the computer and the setup screen had came up but my dad said it wasn't working. So he kept reinserting the disk and came to the conclusion that the hard drive went out. Now keep in mind. We just got this computer over the summer in 2012 in like June/ July. He literally built the computer with his hands. Nothing was wrong with it until now. Everything is new except the mouse, keyboard, and monitor. We even upgraded to windows 7 from XP like 3 weeks ago. What is wrong which my desktop computer? If the hard drive did go out will my files still be saved on my computer because I didn't even have a chance to back up anything.

So either nuke the hard drive and reinstall Windows 7, since it sounds like something in the OS or a sector got messed up, or replace the hard drive.

What would be a good desktop computer for me?

Umm, I'm not a serious gamer or anything, but I play the Sims 3 and I have all the expansions for it, and I play the Sims Medievel. I am looking for a desktop computer that can handle that, but that isn't too pricey. The most I'm willing to pay is $600. My friend bought her computer for $300 and she plays the same games as me as well as Skyrim, so don't tell me that I won't find a computer within that budget. I just would like to know what brand is best. Thanks!

Well, the problem with a prebuilt system, even for minor gaming use...
is that they all come with integrated graphics OR a seriously crippled dedicated graphics card.
Even for Sims use, I would recommend you build your own system.

Check out tier ".75" at the link above. With an OEM copy of Windows 7, the cost to build will be just over $500...and the performance will literally CRUSH the $300 computer that your friend bought.

But if you aren't ambitious enough to build your own system, the best you can do is buy a pre-built system and add a decent graphics card to it.

There's a very high quality video card that will give you a good gaming experience, cheap. And it has a low-profile bracket included, so it should fit the case of the Acer system linked above.
Total cost about $430. It would be tough to beat that for value. You'd have to build your own, to do it...

That's a bit of a tough call, as $500 is the entry price for a gaming PC build, but does not include OS or monitor, so you still need to spend $200 more per system at least for OS and monitor. If that's ok, Google "best $500 gaming build". Recommended links are:

You will need to know how to build a PC, or find someone who will do it for you. If you sacrifice a little you could probably get the price w/monitor and OS down to around $650. The problem with a prebuilt system from Dell or HP in the same price range will typically have integrated graphics rather than discrete, which will really hurt gaming performance.
