Can anyone who knows a lot about Graphics Cards and PC games please help?

Caleb_B

I want to know if my PC will be able to play games like Crysis, Burnout Paradise: Ultimate Box, and Street Fighter 4 at medium high graphics, with the specs it has.

OS - Windows Vista SP2
Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 2.80 GHz
RAM - 2.00 GB
DirectX version - 10.0
Graphics Card - nVidia Geforce 9500gt 512MB DDR2 Stream Processors: 32

Will I be able to play with the games properly, or will they be slow or have low graphics. I don't want to buy the wrong games.

Thanks
Few, because I just ordered Crysis: Maximum Edition online, and I was wondering whether I should cancel.

Answer
hi caleb
when looking for a gaming pc there are three major components we concentrate on,that the processor, memory(ram) and most important the graphics card
and in your case you have a excellent processor, the Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 is a brilliant processor and extremely overclockable if you require it,and your 2gb of memory is around the amount that most of todays game require
however the geforce 9500gt allthough a capable card isnt up to the job of running todays games,it will run games like crysis and burnout paradise however the 9500gt will only support low detail and resolution and to get the best out of these games you really need a faster more powerful card
the good news is though theres some awesome cards that you can get for less than £80 and one of the best of these is the Zotac GTS250 512MB DDR3 Dual DVI ( http://www.ebuyer.com/product/160711 ) ...in comparison to the 9500gt the gts250 has a 256bit memory interface compared to the 128bit in the 9500gt,however were the gts250 comes into action is the 512mb of gddr3 memory that runs at 1100mhz(2200mhz ddr effective ) and with the 738mhz core clock and 1836mhz shader clock you have the best sub £100 card you can buy
but more importantly running the gts250 with the Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 and 2gb of ram and you then have a pretty nifty gaming rig.....and then gaming performance will allow you to max out the detail and resolution in todays games...allthough running crysis using medium detail will allow you to acheive better frame rates.....
alternatively theres the MSI HD 3850 OC 512MB GDDR3 ( http://www.ebuyer.com/product/179925 ) which may be quite old now but its specs are not that bad, theres a 690mhz core clock and 512mb of gddr3 memory thats running at 1656mhz,and with the 256bit memory interface and the 52gb/sec memory bandwidth and you have a card thats more than capable of running all the above games at decent frame rates
however to allow you to run todays games and most of the games released for the next 3 years i would go with the gts250...its a decent card and wont let you down
i hope this helps, any problems let me know
good luck caleb !

Do you need a graphics card for pc games.?

SOMETHING

I've heard some people say things about graphics cards for pc's or something like that. But all my freinds that play pc games say I dont need one. But I don't know if I should belive them or not. If you don't need them, then what are they for? This website says some games have to have them for it to be able to work. Can someone help me out im lost? http://computer.howstuffworks.com/graphics-card.htm

Answer
Yes, all computers need some form of a graphics card. Laptops usually come with a lower end Graphics card that can play most game today on about medium quality settings, or a chipset which will allow you to play game from a couple years ago on low - medium settings.

Desktops however always come with a Graphics card today, dating back for quite some time. Desktops usually have a decent card for its time, and some come with better ones (At the cost of a higher pricetag).

So, if you have a laptop check and see what Graphics Card you have in Device Manager. It should be a 8800GT or higher at minimum, and even that won't play some of today's games. If it is a chipset, then I am sorry there is nothing you can do. Thing about laptops is usually what it comes with you have to keep.

If you have a desktop, look in Device Manager and see if it is at least a 9600GT. If it isn't then you need to upgrade. A 9800 GT and better is your best bet. Look on Nvidia's site or Amazon for a Nvidia (They are usually better than ATI, everyone has a opinion but Nvidia has won more awards, sells more, and most computer come pre install with Nvidia for a reason). Make sure to read the reviews before you buy on Amazon.

Make sure it has 1 GB of Memory (Or ram).

Last thing, Your Memory/Ram. It is usually inexpensive compared to other computer parts but is the most crucial thing next to the Processing unit.

You will need to go to http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/ and let them scan your computer. It will tell you your system, how much ram you have, where it is installed (Depending on you computer their can be 2-8 slots available) how much more you can hold, and which ram type it is.

Which point you can either order from them (they are some of the best in the business) and know you are getting a good namebrand product, or you can go to Amazon or Newegg.com and look up your ram type and order it, usually it is a little cheaper from one of those places. Just remember to read the reviews about the seller, so many people want scam these days.

Installing Ram is quite easy, their are many guides online, just google how to install ram (and then Desktop or Laptop which ever you have).

Well, their you have it. Sorry for the long answer, just wanted to help you the best I could.
