pc video game quality...?

i've gotten 3 games for the PC so far (Assassins creed 1 2 and brotherhood) and every time i played them, i've had to lower the quality to nearly the worst it can get, otherwise the game is seriously laggy. i have a really good PC, so is there any way i can fix this? AC revelations is coming out in a week, and i don't want to go through the game like that again...
i don't know the details but there usually isn't anything playing in the background.

my friend said something about how low quality this is the price you pay for not buying an xbox or ps3. i'm okay with that, but if you could change it, that would be awesome

CPU (What Kind)
RAM (How much and what kind)
V/C: (What kind and how much VRAM)
HDD: (What kind? How many? How much free space on C:\? Other drivers? Solid State Drive (SSD) or Mechanical Hard drive? What RPM speed 5400, 7200, 10,000+
O/S: What operating system? What driver revisions?

You stated that it is laggy? What process are you running in the background? Are you downloading anything while you are playing? Check your Windows Updates also.
