I'm trying to make my first build. I want to build a computer that's fast normally for running multiple programs and good for gaming. Can anyone come up with good components for around 700- 900 dollars? Prefer 700-850. THanks!

Answer
Try the Tom's Hardware $700 build, linked below- it only includes the cost of hardware, not the extra $120 you'll need for a copy of Windows.

Update: After examining the performance for this month's T.H. build, it's not great (last month's was much better). So let's go with this instead:

CPU: 2.9Ghz Athlon II X3 425 - $84

Motherboard: Gigabyte MA-770T-UD3P - $80

RAM: 4gb G.SKILL DDR3 1600 - $105

Graphics card: HIS Radeon 5770 1gb - $163

Case: Cooler Master Centurion - $60

Power supply: Corsair CMPSU-550VX - $80

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB - $56

DVD/CD Burner: Sony Optiarc - $28

I'm assuming you're running at stock speeds, so I didn't include a 3rd-party CPU cooler.

Total of $657 before tax, for a 2.9Ghz triple-core system... Just add Windows! I think you've got about $27 in shipping costs and $30 in mail-in rebates- woohoo!

You can save $43 by going with a GTS 250 as your graphics card, but you'd lose DX11 support and a bit of speed. However, the GTS 250 is still slightly faster than the Radeon 5750 and 4850 cards. The choice is yours ;-)

I recently decided to purchase a gaming PC and am looking for a system with at least 8gb's worth of memory and all that good stuff, I have a projected budget of 900 to 1000 dollars give or take work salary and am looking for one that can handle graphic intensive games such as Fallout 3, Supreme Commander and Crysis, any suggestions?

Answer
