PC Gaming worth it or not?

Jose Gomes

I was looking to get into pc gaming and I wanted some opinion if I should or not

Answer
PC games are great on graphics and more future secure than consoles.
1. Mouse and keyboard support
Well, duh. Console kids who have grown up with a controller in hand might argue, but
there's still no better way of playing just about any game in any genre â not just shooters â
than the combination of keyboard and mouse. It just works, offering orders of magnitude
more precision and speed than fiddly analogue sticks.
2. High screen resolutions
While Microsoft and Sony scream about 'true HD' in their games â but in many cases don't
actually deliver it â the PC has been happily running games at 1080p and above for yonks.
In fact, the near-HD default res of 1,280x1,024 is very 2001; even a medium rig can handle
1,600x1,200 or more these days.
3. Free mods
Were you a raw naif, you might be forgiven for thinking that LittleBigPlanet et al single-
handedly invented the idea of (nnnggh) 'user generated content'. But guess what? PC
gamers have been coding mods (modifications) such as add-ons, total conversions,
unofficial levels and all manner of other gubbins for⦠well, pretty much forever. And then
distributing it for free, for the sheer love of it.
4. Upgradeable hardware
With the aforementioned higher resolutions and textures, chances are a new PC game
already looks better than its console counterpart right now. But even if you can't run it with
all the visuals tweaked to the max, processor and graphic cards prices drop so quickly that
it's hardly bank-breaking to refit your rig in a year or so, for better graphics and more
speed.
5. Cheaper games
Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo's licensing and publishing costs inevitably drive up the cost of
every single game released, and even pre-owned games tend to be far pricier than the PC
equivalent.
6. You're not tied to one online service
Imagine not having to rely on a single, central server such as Xbox Live or PlayStation
Network whenever you go online. Imagine not having to suffer downtimes, silly licensing
agreements, or daft console-restricting DRM. Oh wait⦠that's the PC online, isn't it?
7. No extra dosh needed for playing online
Okay, this only applies to Xbox Live, but who's to say that Sony might not start charging
for PSN as it keeps haemorrhaging money? And yes, Xboxers can use the free Silver
service, but really â why would you?
8. Unlimited storage space
The Xbox 360 is limited to whatever can fit on a DVD (or, if you're unlucky, more than one).
The PlayStation 3 has to struggle with turgid Blu-ray access and enforced installs. PC
games, meanwhile, just sit happily on the potentially unlimited storage space of your hard
drive. Easy.
9. Save game hacking
Like modders, PC gamers are rabidly enthusiastic about pulling apart save games and data
files, fiddling therein, and finding ingenious ways to cheat or fix corrupted files. Try doing
that with your Wii.
10. Unofficial fixes for older games
PC games such as Vampire: The Masquerade often get unofficial, free, support long after
publishers have gone kaput and official support is abandoned, thanks to the tireless efforts
of their fans. Bug fixes, enhancements, new hardware support â it's all there.
11. Abandonware
The geek term for 'old games which you can't buy any more'. There are a huge number of
classic PC titles out there from years gone by, and many thousands are available to
download, legally, for free.
12. No red ring of death
Well, you only get this on the Xbox, of course, but the last thing you want your gaming
machine to do is to completely konk out. At least when a PC goes wrong, it really goes wrong. Like, with fire and everything (possibly).

From what I heard building your own gaming PC is much cheaper than buying a brand new one. But the only problem with that is I'm only 16 and no little to nothing about how the inside of a PC works and I wluldent know where to start. So how does a 16 year old go about assembling a gaming PC? a guid? Get help from someone who has done this? I don't know where to start with this one so who wants to lend a kid a hand?

Answer
I'm 16 as well, but you should start studying the parts on what to get and look at its performance. I started looking through the sites where you can buy parts and reading the reviews of it.

Here is a video on how to build your computer - there are 3 parts :

How do I convince my parents to let me get a gaming PC?

Kevin . V

I want to get a gaming PC preferably the Alienware 14 and I'm doing really good in school I have all A+ in all subjects I do my chores and I'm a good kid ( coming from a Spanish family u had to be good or else they will put u in order) and I don't back talk that much and I'm willing to pay off some money for the PC . So how can I convince my parents to let me get a gaming PC

Answer
hola kevin ;D lmao i know the feel bro. ok so i am currently in the same situation, and there is a really good solution. So you always wanna go for strong and quick arguments with these things. Say something along the lines of "getting all a's is very stressful, and working hard gets me all tense" or something like that. you can say the pc would help blow off some steam, and that you would only use it on spare time so that it doesn't interfere with your studies. then throw in why you deserve it, something like " i have all a's, i work hard, i behave, i never ask for much" etc etc

hope it helps :D and yes, Spanish families can be harsh x_x

What do you think of my Gaming PC build?

best gaming pc for kids on ... Powered by smf anne geddes computer wallpaper / Powered by smf anne

Isaac

What do you think of my Gaming PC build? here are the specs

HAF 912
Zotac GTX 560 ti 448
i5-2320 (don't have the money to upgrade to a 2500k)
ECS H61H2-M2
Seasonic 620w
G.Skill 8gb Value Series
DVD Burner/ Windows7

What do you think? Will it max out modern games? Thanks!

Answer
looks real good, and you kidding me, a gtx 560ti 448 can max ANY game there is on the market at 1920x1080 pretty easily...

But here are things i would change:
motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157241
cheaper and better, i wouldnt get ecs boards.

the psu is alittle overkill, you can drop it down to like a 500-550W and could probably save some money.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027

and as for the graphics card i would stick with asus, evga or msi
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121480
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127615

the MSI twin frozer II/III and the asus DC/DCII have the best cooling solutions, for higher end cards, they are the way to go for sure.

I i would love for someone to tell me which game this card isnt going to max settings on?
the gtx 560ti 448 is pretty much an equivalent to gtx570 in performance. So again tell me what game in this world a gtx570 can not max settings on? and dont say derp for max settings the resolution needs to be set to max, most people dont play on resolutions above 1920x1080.

EDIT: jim...
that case is a really good case, idk wtf you are smoking. Ya the antec v3 is better, but that case is $110...
how can you possible recommend an antec psu over seasonic... guess who makes both antec and corsair? seasonic does...
evga's warranties for most of their cards are a lifetime warranty (lifetime of the card not your life...), meaning what ever they say the lifetime of the card is, is how long you have a warranty for. So if the card has an expected lifetime of 15years, you have a 15year warranty.
And lastly why would you get pro/ultimate? xp mode? windows 7 can run any xp software, it just cant run software that is older then xp (like win me,98 etc). Which i have no idea anyone in the world who need to run that old of software, except maybe cheap greedy businesses who wont upgrade software, which they probably pirated in the first place...

What is a good desktop out there with good price?

the guy

i want to buy a gaming PC and i don't have a lot of money.(in fact i don'y have any money, i have to beg my mom) So i'm looking for a good PC and good preformance but also a good price around 200-400$,a little more or less.

Answer
400$ are you kidding me???

Lol i was in that same situation. If your short on cash. BUILD A COMPUTER i did. Its your only option unless you want a shitty netbook. I went to Newegg.com and put together the best 700$ computer you can get. After some talking i got her to buy it. Now im sitting here playing Crysis. (not kidding).

But hey, know your moms financial status. Dont be a dick and make her feel guilty that she cant afford it. These are hard times. You just don't do that to your mom. My parents lost $500,000 out of there 401k. I'm not going to ask them for anything unless i will die with out it. And they were on the verge of retiring. D: Only do that if you know your mom has gold in that bank account but wont let you in on it.
I have found to get your mom to get you want you want you better give her what she want. (Idk good grades, no trouble, do the dishes etc.) Dont be a brat and complain. Talk things out. "This is my early B-day present" always works. :D

if you want help putting one together tony971993@sbcglobal.net
I cant guarentee anything (Im only 15) but ill do my best.
