Hi everyone! I am about to buy a new desktop pc but are unsure about the different types. I would like one that could run most pc games well (i.e. sims 2 etc!) please could you specify types of computers that will do this (preferably under £400.00). And the graphics of different pc's.

Every PC is different.
For gaming... I would recommend an AMD processor.
If you get an Intel... STAY AWAY FROM CELERON. You will like the pricetag, but hate the performance.
At least 1GB of ram... (you need more, but you are trying to stay under 400)
Any decent Nvidia or Ati card will do you well. You need to spend more on this too, but it is a budget killer.

Then get as big as a hard drive as your budget will allow.

I'm planning to configure a gaming PC and im confused about the specs of gaming PCs,could someone be kind to share tyheir knowledge about computers?
Here are some of my criteria:
-The price first and foremost,preferrably affordable and cheap not neccessarily branded.
-Hard Drive?
-Processor?
-RAM?

Ok so it's a gamer you want......
MOBO: Gigabyte EX38 chipset or newer
CPU: Intel Q9450 or higher
RAM: (here's the debate: if you use a 64bit OS get as much ram as you can. If you use a 32 bit OS your stuck with 4 GB) I used a 64 bit OS Windows 2008 Server x64 and I have 8GB of G-Skill PC2-1000 Ram, Make sure your RAM has a speed equal to or higher than the FSB speed of the CPU it will help decrease the bottlenecking problem for the data speed from the CPU to the RAM
Cooling: I prefer fans over liquid, but it is truly about choice.
Hard Drive: 3 in total 1) 80GB Western Digital SATA II (for OS only)
2) 1.5 TB Western Digital SATA II (Docs, photos,
and anything else you want to put on it.
3) 1.5 TB Western Digital SATA II ( Movies, or
virtual drives for your games)
Graphics card: I am a ATI fan and love the new HD series cards, but make sure it has a minimum of 512 MB of RAM on board and a cooling fan. I have two GPU's on my system and I run 4 monitors.

Now what I just listed if you bought it retail would run you about 3500.00 to 5500.00. Dependent on your location. I built this system last year and I spent just over 1500.00. I can now buy all of this stuff for well under 900.00. USE EBAY!!!! I have since learned how to find great deals on EBAY and love it. But if you don't have the cash don't bid. Make sure you also have a good power supply in your rig, I used an Antech Quatro True Power 850 Watt PSU. It is not cheap but it is worth it to have the power there when you need it.

If you want to build it your self have fun, it is a great and rewarding experience to build your own system, but if you don't want to build it your self, send an email to jdptechnology@yahoo.com, they will build what you want and do it cheap. I know this for fact because they just built a system for a friend and it had a diamond viper Graphics card with 512MB RAM on the card and had a n ECS MOBO with a Q6600 CPU and 4 GB's of ram and memory card reader and a DVD burner for under 400.00. It is a sweet machine.

What parts should I use in a budget gaming PC?

I'm going to build a budget gaming pc and I'm wondering what parts I should use. I'm planning on using the Nvidia Geforce Gtx 650 and a Thermaltake TR2 500w power supply from my old computer, then I have $500 for the rest of the computer including a monitor. I really don't care about looks too much and I'm not planning on overclocking, Can anyone recommend some parts? Oh, and the monitor doesn't have to be full HD, but it's preferable.

I am looking for something with an intel processor, a built in graphics card and atleast 4GB of memory. It doesn,t have to be able to play everything at max graphics. Sorry, there aren't many. i looked for days to find one before, they are just not good enough. the best you can probably get is the Hp probook 4525. it has HD Graphics, i think 2-4 gb of RAM (Memory) but you can fit up to 8GB. it has an AMD processor BUT, its really good. i used it for a while. i know intel is better, but this is the best you can get for now until you can get a high quality Gaming pc. it is around $400- 500 i use the Dell Studio XPS 1640, it is $1200 and really good.

I hate everything about console gaming and want to sell my ps3, but I don't want to give up local splitscreen or the hdtv. What should I do? I can build a killer gaming pc for under $400.
PS3s are weak in comparison to even a cheap pc.

I love playing couch co-op with my cousin even though there are only so few split-screen games available, but I could get all the Steam super sales and F2P games. Is it even possible to have split-screen games on a pc? Me and my cousin only play shooters/fps/tps, arcade games, & if ever available something creative like minecraft (once had the clone for Xbox 360).

Dude its good that I found this question, because I am a huge gamer and can totally help you out! First of all pc gaming is 1,000,000 better than console and ill tell you why. First of all if you are into mods than thats a good reason for pc gaming. It is much harder to mod/hack on consoles but easy on pc. Another reason is because Pc has so many more games than console. With pc you can download so many free games online, or beta's etc. Also because you can play with a controller or mouse and keyboard. Me for instance i bought an official xbox controller specifically for pc so it would be like playing console if thats what you like. Lastly pc games run nicer on pc if you have a nice pc. Graphics look nicer than console if you have a decent computer and there are so much more settings on pc then ps3. So the answer is by all means switch the pc gaming you wont regret it :-)

I want to be able to do some moderate gaming. It doesnt have to look cool or be lit up with led's. I the cpu and gpu to be amd. Ive been looking at the a10 and it seems pretty good. I know its integrated but im on a budget. Under $400 please. Its possible and i believe in you.

Under 400 you are going to get the bare minimum. However I did built a computer a while back that was worth in total of 375. So here is goes.
Components
Case=Apex Mi 005/ 250 w PSU
Processor=Core i3 3225 3.3 ghz (HD Graphics 4000)
RAM=4gb corsair
Hard Drive= 500 gb Western Digital
Motherboard= H77N Gigabyte
(Note this is a Mini Itx Build and will run games such as MW3 and Black ops without a glitch)
Although there are other options such as an AMD build so the choice is up to you. Cheers mate.

Should I get a Mac or PC? What are the pros and cons?

I am planning on getting a laptop that will hopefully last through my last two years of high school and college. I'm not big on gaming and I'm not going to be an engineer. My dad just wants to get me a PC under $400 that is functional, but I would like a nice laptop.
With the new Windows 8 out, are Macs really better than PC? I love their design but overall, is it worth paying the price? Please give me some advice and tell me which is better for me and give me reasons!

Macintrash is NOT worth the extra price. You can buy a Windows 7 PC with the same specs as a comparable Mac for half the price. And Macs will not run a lot of the software that's available for a PC.
