Gaming Pc for under 500$?

I decided I want to build my own gaming pc from scratch. What would you guys recommend to buy for under 500$? ie(motherboard, processor, ram, videocard, case)

$500 isn't very much to work with in terms of a gaming PC - to be honest you probably need to spend $100 - $150 + just on a graphics card (depending on the type of gaming you do) so now were down to $400. I have a geforce 9800GT which is amazing for the price. If you go a little cheaper (like I did) you can always pick up another down the road and SLI them.

Ram - you could probably pick up 2gb (which is more than enough for the average person) for $50 (personally I would go with ddr3 since it's the newest, might cost a little more, but well worth it).

$300 - $350 left.

Mobo - AMD will be the cheapest route to go for what your getting. I have a Phenom II x4 945 which cost me about $177 after tax, amazing CPU, put probably out of your range.

With a good CPU cooler you could easily overclock that to 3.6

Motherboard - assuming you went with my suggestion, you would need a AM3 compatible board, and ddr3 for the newest ram. This is the board I just ordered, for the price, it's a great deal. You'll get AM3, DDR3, SLI options, HDMI, etc..

You still need a case, dvd drive, and power supply... I have an Antec 300 which cost me $50. I love it, now window, but you can always mod it if that's the stuff your into.

Power supply, I would go at least 750w, I think I spent about $70 for mine, just shop around.. Dvd drives are cheap. www.newegg.com is your friend.

You might want to budget yourself a little higher, so you get a bigger bang for your buck. Good luck

Well, in a short question I want to buy a Gaming PC that can play recent games like Left 4 Dead 2 without any lag/problems and it HAS to be able to play WoW on the highest graphics setting without any lag and a decent framerate. Preferebly with Windows 7. Btw I'm just asking about a PC, no monitor or keyboard or mouse.

if you look on ebay maby you will find this (Acer Aspire X3950 Intel Core i3) one. i doubt it will be under 300 but probobly in the 350- 500 range :D

recommend a great gaming pc for under $1,300?

Hey, i'll be getting around 1,300 dollars this summer and really need a new pc i would use it for high end gaming and things like hosting servers, running many applications at once, and high speed internet so i'd like something with a great amount of RAM and a high end video card (Radeon or NVIDIA) Also i would like an intel i7 core preferably 2nd or 3rd gen. If any of you have a suggestion on a pc within that price range please let me know on here. I might try just building one myself but i'm afraid that i'll buy something that isn't compatible with another part and then i'd have to return it and go through all that trouble but if any of you have a good build for a gaming pc that would end up somewhere around 1300 dollars please put it down. thank you
By the way this just for the tower not monitor mouse or keyboard
the types of games i would play are WoW, Guild wars2, Crysis, Skyrim, Things like that :D

$300 gaming pc upgrade?

I currently have an older computer I built ( e3400 Intel wolfdale cpu, Asus p5641-mlx2/gb ) with 2gb's of 667 ddr2 ram). Now obviously this isn't a gaming machine, but I would like play some of the newer games. MY budget is $300, I was looking on newegg and I was able to get an a8-3850, 8 gb's of 1600 ddr3 ram, and a fairly cheap motherboard under $300. I'm not a fanatic gamer, I have a ps3 and am pretty happy with the graphics on it. The questions I have are: how well will this system perform? Would my $300 be better used somewhere else? I've seen people playing with the a-3850 online and it seems to do okay, the only thing I'm not sure on is on the future, I know a motherboard like the AM3+ will be supported for awhile but I'm not sure on the FM1(I understand neither of these are compatible with my current CPU). Please read what I put thanks so much.

I was in a similar boat about a year ago, and I was able to build a new one for under 300, and I still get usually over 60fps in most games -I ripped the cpu out of my other pc (only 3.1ghz amd dual core), and found a motherboard that would fit it, but if you can afford a new cpu, that tends to be the bottleneck in most gaming rigs. You might start with only 2 or 4gb of ram, I don't think any game really needs 8, but you're on the right track, newegg and tigerdirect are best for putting shit together

Whats a good motherboard for gaming that goes with this processor?

You limit gaming by going with AMD, basically looking to economize or improve recording performance. When you state a $300 on a motherboard, my reply is that you choce the wrong CPU. You should be in i5 in Haswell or Ivy Bridge, or even an i7, and looking at SLI capable motherboards.
The 8 cores of an FX series get used only in Crysis-3, or in recording gaming as a multitasking. Almost every game is 4 cores maximum.

my reply is therefore not about picking out the 970Extreme4 or a 990x based motherboard, and instead wonder if you are choosing your CPU correctly.

It is most certainly possible to build a gaming PC with a budget of $500, but you'd need to have a few things before you get started. Well, one major thing actually: a PC that has a dual-core processor with at least 2.5GHz processing speed. The reason for this CPU speed is that most games will ask for something along the lines of 2.2GHz or higher (games released from 2005-present).

Then all you'd need to do is purchase a new graphics card, a new power supply to make sure the graphics card doesn't die out on your for lack of power, and I'd also recommend you increase the amount of RAM on the PC. RAM will be limited by the motherboard and operating system you have. A 32-bit OS will support up to 4GB while a 64-bit OS can take advantage of more. Be sure that the new RAM sticks you get are of the same frequency as the ones you'll be replacing, you'll save yourself a lot of headaches if you take this precaution.

The RAM upgrade will the most economic of all upgrades, keep in mind that you can choose whatever brand you want but know that Kingston comes really highly recommended. With these upgrades you should be able to run some of the newer games at decent, but not ultra, settings.
