TurtlefulN

If you had a budget of... idk... let's say $2,000. What is the best (top performance) gaming PC parts/specs that you would get?

Answer
BEST GAMING DESKTOP PC BUILD:

FACT: INTEL IS A MUCH BETTER PROCESSOR FOR GAMING THAN ANY AMD.
See here:
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

Processor: New 3rd generation Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor - $239.99
Or 2nd generation Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor - $204.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072
According to most people, the i5-2500K is still considered the best gaming processor, better than i5-3570K.
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Pro3 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard - $119.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157297
After market CPU Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper EVO - $34.99 (Stock Intel cooler sucks and it's noisy too)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099
Memory (RAM): G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1600MHz - $46.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130604
Hard Drive: 1TB Seagate Barracuda SATA III (6.0Gb/s), 7200rpm, 64MB Cache - $99.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148840
Optical Drive: LITE-ON DVD Burner - Bulk Black SATA Model iHAS124-04 - OEM - $17.99
Power Supply (PSU): CORSAIR Builder Series CX600 V2 600W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - $69.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028
PC Case (Tower): Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - $49.99
Or COOLER MASTER HAF 912 RC-912-KKN1 Black SECC/ ABS Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - $59.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233&Tpk=haf%20912
Operating System (OS): Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit OEM - $99.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986

TOTAL: $974.90 to $1,019.90
All prices are in $USD and in the USA, as of end of April 2012, they might be slightly different one way or the other by now.

To make that the best, replace the graphics card with a 2GB EVGA or ZOTAC GeForce GTX680, and replace the 1TB Seagate Barracuda SATA III (6.0Gb/s), 7200rpm, 64MB Cache with a 240GB Patriot Wildfire SSD SATA III (6.0Gb/s) to use for OS, system updates, programs, software and games installation, add two 2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA III (6.0Gb/s), 7200rpm, 64MB Cache for more file storage room.
Total price should be well under $2,000, my guess is around $1,600.

Answer
yup, your build is decent enough to let you play all games on mid settings on 1080p. older games on high settings =D

BTW, since you have an H61 mobo, it would be much better if you just downgrade your processor to an I5-2500 since an H61 mobo isn't capable of efficiently overclocking an I5-25000k.

If you really want a 2500k then there is no choice for you but to upgrade into either a P67 or Z68 mobo of which you stated you didn't want to increase your expense that is why i said for you to just downgrade into a 2500.
