Good gaming pc for about 700$?

Adam

I am looking to buy a new computer. I want something that can handle fairly strenuous games at high or close to high settings. I want it to cost anywhere from 600 to 700 dollars, but i can go a bit higher, I also want to be able to upgrade it in the future, and I want to be able to surf the web play games and use it for school. I do not want to custom build it and I preferably want an intel CPU

$705 from Newegg. Newegg.com charges sales tax on orders shipping to California, New Jersey and Tennessee only

In terms of overall gaming performance, the graphical capabilities of the AMD Radeon HD 7790 are massively better than the Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 1GB.

Although agreed that the FX-6300 is not thrilling, it can be upgrading by adding a good CPU Cooler and overclocking to an FX-6350 level, getting it to tier 2. The HD 7790 at this price point is extremely unusual. Power supply only adequate as a split rail (two +12V) 18A/rail 360W total 12V 30A. 85W GPU and 95W CPU with 40W other 12V has room for overclock but not much in GPU upgrade without a new power supply also.
To get your i5-3550 preferred Intel CPU,

CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme 1370 drops the graphics all the way to an HD 7750. This becomes an entry level gaming PC. ANything below this level should immediately get the graphics card replaced.
AN HD 7790 should match a GTX 560 in performance. The difference to HD 7750 becomes unacceptable:

The only PC at Best Buy in the class of performance you want is this one:

Has the i5-3350p aand GTX 650 and Bluray in a nice case, but is $750 plus tax.
It is not really better in performance than this at only $610:

iBUYPOWER Gamer NE630x Desktop PC AMD FX-Series FX-6300(3.50GHz) 8GB DDR3 1TB HDD Capacity NVIDIA Geforce GTX 650 1GB Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
The FX-6300 is adequate, GTX 650 is OK, has Windows 7 gamers prefer.
It does step down from the HD 7790, but does keep a bit more money in your pocket and more compatible to old games. Power supply is so bad, they fuzz it out. It is an upgrade the week before the warranty expires.
This one is a mid-level thought:

$680, HD 7770, but only FX-6100. It is a drop from the GTX 650, but ahead of HD 7750.
Power supply is OK. The motherboard of most pre-built are low end. You have to get expensive or custom built to get a decent motherboard.

If you are upgrading:

$130 graphics card to get towards the right level of gaming.
and $35 to $55 for a reasonable power supply after rebates for a Corsair or XFX power supply
Say $170 you go $475 on a refurb Dell i5
newegg Item N82E16883155676
and net out at $675, probably seeing if you can attach a side intake fan.

To get you started down the right track on your gaming build without breaking your budget you can just upgrade some components of the already existing PC. The processor is good, anything that's at least dual core is good for gaming and the speed of the CPU isn't bad either. The things I'd recommend you upgrade are the RAM, graphics card and power supply.

I've taken the liberty of looking up some components that should fit your system and provide what you're looking for:

Graphics Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102873
Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153140
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134193

The power supply upgrade is to provide enough juice to the newer, meaner graphics card. The RAM is to max out your PC's memory, providing a bit of a jump to your PC's normal operating speed. And the graphics upgrade should let you play a wide variety of newer games, keep in mind that it may not always display at ultra graphics settings, but you'll be able to run them at decent settings. Oh, and the price for all this should come around to $274.97 before taxes and shipping.

If you feel like upgrading even more and going for even better graphics quality in your games go for this other card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129141 which will still work great with the other components I've picked out for you, but will bring the final price to $644.97 before shipping and taxes.

Hope it helps.
