How to put old PC games on the computer?

I have a Nancy Drew game I want to play, but it's old. It's from 2000. I set the set-up under Windows 2000 and tried to install it, but it won't. Also, the disk of the game only shows set up icons and the information of the game, it doesn't show up as the game. What can I do to play the game? Thanks!

I dont know much about computers but im big in gaming. i currently have an old macbook and i wanna upgrade. whats a good computer and configuration. i would prefer digital storm but other stuff is cool too
