Will the 2011 Dell Inspirion Duo run the PC game Crysis? If not, what portable laptop can?

Bryce F

I wanted to get a laptop as a graduation present, and I was looking for ideas. I was hoping I could get a newer one capable of running Crysis, and I was wondering if someone might be able to point me in the right direction.

What PC laptop should I get for college 2011?

Q. I am looking into the Sony Viao F series but I am really not sure what to look for. The only thing I do know is that I do not want a mac.

Answer
My advice would not be to get VAIO's with i5 or i7 processors because they get hot and limit what graphics cards you can have for gaming.
I have the 13.3 inch S series with i3, 1066 FSB, 4 GIG DDR3 RAM and Nvidia Gforce 310M, it runs cool and runs all games, it has a metallic magnesium cover and is very portable too.

gaming laptop advice?

bmoc

I'm starting to get real frustrated with the overwhelming amount of information regarding the topic. I'm looking for the best gaming laptop I can find spending no more than $1200. The ones I've looked at the most are the Asus g55vw, lenovo 500 and 580, and possibly a different asus. Let me know what you guys think about these and if you have any better suggestions for my 1200 range then by all means constructively share.
(and don't try to talk me out of the whole gaming laptop thing, I have my reasons)

Thanks

Answer
same, i dont know much about PC specs either. I was just very lucky when I bought my gaming laptop.

I picked up a HP Pavilion dv7-3186cl Notebook from pawn shop for $350 (seen same one on eBay for $500) (this was in October 2011)

specs: cpu: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 430 @ 2.27GHz (x64) at 2267MHz gfx: NVIDIA GeForce G105M 512MB res: 1600x900 32bit 60Hz ram: 4022.9MB hdd: 465gb

It runs GTA4, Skyrim, WoW, CS:GO good which is good enough for me.

What is the best should I do if I want to play modern PC games at max graphical settings if I've got this?

I've only got 130 Dollars (USD) to spend

I've got a laptop (purchased in 2011) with these specs:

i3 (2.53GHz)
Intel HD Graphics
4 GB RAM

I know that the processor is okay and the RAM amount too but the Intel HD Graphics is bad for gaming so I'm thinking if I could connect an external graphics card to my laptop. Can I do this? Is it worth?

I've also got a pretty old (about 10 years old) desktop PC with these specs:

Pentium IV (2.80 GHz)
ATI Radeon 9600
768 MB RAM

Should I buy components separately in order to upgrade this old desktop PC?

Or should I buy a new desktop PC?

Can you help me please?

I want to play PC games like Far Cry 3 at ultra settings...

Thanks and sorry for the bad english.

Answer
First off you can't upgrade the GPU in a laptop so you're stuck with Intel HD graphics.
Also although it may be possible to upgrade your desktop it probably won't be worth it, you'll have to pretty much replace all of the components including the motherboard since it will most likely only support old DDR/2 RAM and old processors.

You should just buy/build a new desktop. But with a budget of just $130 building a PC that can handle Far Cry 3 on ultra is impossible. Sorry.
I recommend just saving up your money until have at least $300+ if you want to be able to build a half-decent gaming rig.

Good Luck.

Is it possible to get a $700 Gaming PC that can play Skyrim on high settings?

Jett

My birthday is coming up and I want to get a gaming (laptop cause they're cheaper) so I can play AT THE LEAST 2011 games and below, but if I could get one for 700 that could play 2012 games like Skyrim that would be great! Thanks! I was thinking about going to my local computer shop.

Answer
Actually In terms of gaming and raw power... a desktop has a lot more to offer. You could buy say a 800 dollar gaming desktop, and the price for a laptop with about the same power, is about 1400-1600. If this changes you mind... take a look at MyCustombuild.com, they have a option for about 800 that will pack a much bigger punch than any 700 dollar laptop you will find on the market, will also play all games from 2011 and also ones from 2012(not ultra settings though).
ALSO*** Desktops are MUCH easier and CHEAPER to upgrade for gaming because usually the only upgrade you may need in the future is a video that you can pick up for 100-200 bucks to continue playing the newest titles. (really you can spend as much as you want on video cards, but 100-200 should do the trick.)

Why is my Mac better in performance than my PC?

best pc gaming laptop 2011 on Photo of Choosing the best role-playing games (RPGs) and adventure ...
best pc gaming laptop 2011 image

My PC battery died after not even two years and it slowed down to a stop. Nowadays it's my backup. It cost me about $450 plus tax.

My Mac cost at least 3 times my PC but it's still going strong after four years. It's lighting fast and it doesn't die off on me.

Is it because Microsoft is so mass produced that they have to use cheap parts? Or is it the flaky OS?

Answer
First: you chose a poor question to ask on the internet, the fanboys will be all over you in about ten seconds. I'll edit this answer with more information once I write it all down.

Okay, there are SEVERAL reasons for this. I'll list them in completely random order. I've used both OS X and Windows on both Macintosh and home built computers and am probably as unbiased as you can be on the internet.

First off, yes, most windows computers are significantly cheaper than Macintosh computers. They're cheaper to make, so they're cheaper to buy. Apple computers use extraordinarily tough unibody anodized aluminum chassis. Almost every Windows laptop uses plastic construction. They also use flimsier internal parts and are built to lower tolerances. This is the number one reason your Mac is outliving your PC. The batteries used in Windows laptops are generally far poorer quality than the ones in Macs, while they might last nearly as long when they are new, they have TERRIBLE charge hold ratings.

Secondly, OS X is a vastly more efficient operating system. While its file system is getting quite old, the underlying technologies are rewritten FAR more often than Windows. You can still find code from MS-DOS circa 1980's or earlier. OS X has OS-level multithreading, support for up to 64 terrabytes of RAM, OS-level sandboxing, and far more efficient interactions between OS and program than the layers upon layers upon layers of code needed to do anything in Windows. OS X is also a lot tidier about its program settings. While Windows uses the registry system that has been around since before Winodws, OS X uses a far cleaner Plist system which doesn't leave fragments of application around after you remove the application.

Thirdly, OS X has maybe a thousand viruses for it, if that. That may seem like a lot, until you think about the literal hundreds of hundreds of millions of viruses for Microsoft Windows. I don't know why there are so few viruses for OS X, there just are.

These are the three most important reasons Macs are measurably longer lasting than PC's.

Yes, Macs are enormously more expensive than a similarly specified PC, but there's a reason for that. Mostly the gorgeous and neigh indestructible cases, but also, yes, there is a premium for that glowy white fruit on the back. However, the main reason that it's nearly impossible to get a computer that's as tough, light, and fast as a Mac without getting a Mac is because no company can actually make a computer that great for the same price as a Mac or less.

This article highlights some wonderful reasons why this is the case, give it a read, but be warned, it is 6 pages long.

Should I buy a macbook pro now 2011 or wait for the 2012 version?

RuddyMoua

Don't tell me to buy something else different because I want the macbook pro for school.
Is the Macbook pro 2012 version going to be faster?
What do you think about bootcamp and games?
Games like
Lower end games
DOTA
LOL

Higher end games
Starcraft 2
Diablo 3 when it comes out.

Answer
for gaming, I would be better off having a PC, preferably an Alienware because its graphics are much better and more powerful than macbook pro.

But....

If you want a macbook pro for gaming, yes you'll have to dual boot (bootcamp), the 15" and 17" are better for gaming, 15" high end 2.2Ghz has much better graphics and would strongly recommend that for its GPU speed and processor speed.

I bootcamp my macbook pro for dota allstars (game is very addicting) and as far as I can tell, its not as bad as you think. It will work almost like a PC, but it gets hot, thats my only concern ( I have a cooler pad for mine. ) My macbook is able to handle the games for hours, tested intensely over the summer.

If you want to game on macbook pro, I strongly recommend a cooler pad because your mac will get extremely hot. Keep your laptop cool so the battery will long last and so is your laptop (clean it regularly from the inside, ie clean the fan from dust)

don't wait for 2012 because it will not change much, just some software updates and thats about it. Get it now if you want to.

if you want to save money on macbook pro, buy it from internet because you can save over $200. Don't buy one from apple store, they will rip you off.

EDIT: A 15" mac will be able to handle that, your a dota fan as well? nice, I thought I was the only one.

How to fix my second monitor from shifting the full screen video?

best pc gaming laptop 2011 image

Pheobe

I have dual monitors, and when I try to run a fullscreen game like Skyrim or Sims 3 on my main monitor while I have any internet screen running on my second monitor, the internet window becomes shifted a few inches to the right, and off the screen. Is there any way to fix this problem? I've been dragging the window a few inches to the left to offset it before I open the game, but would love to fullscreen on both monitors.

Answer
Hello, If you want the display to be just on one screen, you will need to go to your computers' Display Settings which can be accessed by right clicking on your desktop and personalize your display or through the control panel->Appearance and Personalization-> Display. In the settings, for the multiple display option, select "Display desktop only on 1" or "Display desktop only on 2" depending on which monitor is 1 or 2. Here are some websites that will help.
