Been looking at the alienware M17x a lot, trying to figure how to get the best performance while keeping it under 2 grand. Open to other brands though. What's the best way to get the most performance within my budget?
Answer
You should definitely get the MSI Computer Corp gamer laptop, it is a better gaming laptop than the alienware m17x. It has similar processor as the M17X (Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor (2.4 GHz), but far out run the alienware m17x in all other departments. Look at the breakdown below.
*The alienware m17x has a 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M graphics card while the MSI has a 4GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX675MX. So the MSI has a far better graphics card. Ans to be honest, the graphics card is the major element of a good gamer, it is what truly dictates the gaming power of your PC. So as you can see, the MSI gamer has a newer graphics card as well as its graphics card has far more memory which means that it is faster.
* The alienware M17x has 8 GB DDR3 RAM while the MSI Gamer has 16 GB DDR3
Memory is very vital in gaming as it helps with the speed of the computer and as you can see, the MSI's memory doubles the Alienware m17x's memory.
* Both laptops has a 750 GB with rotating speed at 7200 rpm, however the MSI also has 128 GB Solid-State Drive (flash memory) while the M17X has none. So overall, the MSI has a bigger storage by far which is very vital for a gamer.
There are a few other small differences, however I have outlined the things that matters most. So, overall, its better to get the MSI gamer since it is much more suitable for gaming- having a better graphics card, double times RAM etc. And the biggest thing is that this laptop is even cheaper than the M17X, being sold for $1795.. Future proof gaming PC for under $2000 AU?
Pwnage Pen
I want to build a gaming PC for under 2000 Australian Dollars. I don't need a monitor, mouse or keyboard. I also want this to be as future proof as possible.
And also need to add the cost of having someone build it for me.
Please answer quickly.
Answer
a decent gaming machine would be through NewEgg.com or Tigerdirect.com, dont know if they ship to AU, but look at their performance packages and a gaming setup PC's. I think the one that looks decent for $900 USD is this setup from TigerDirect.com:
Vista Home Ultimate 64bit
Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4GHz)
4gb DDr2 Ram
250gb sata2
22X DVD/RW
9600gt 512mb SLI (dual graphics cards)
Gigabit NC/6CH audio
Looks ok for the price.
