best gaming pc ever made 2012 image
Mike Jiffi
I've been out of gaming for about 10 years now but I recently just built a very capable pc. Anyhow I'd like to replay some of those classic titles only with better graphics. I played duke3d with the high resolution pack not long ago and was amazed at how mods can improve a game. So anyhow what's out there? I like fps's and rts's especially games based around historical wars. (WWII mainly) I enjoyed all the gta, age of empires C&C commandos half life, battlefield 1942 etc

Well, that is quite a long time to be away, so there aren't too many games that are 10 years old or older with modern graphics. There are some that are being made right now, most notably X-COM.

Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 are 2 good titles if you like Blizzard games. Diablo 3 isn't out just yet, but will release soon. Company of Heroes is probably one of the best RTS games ever made. I would highly recommend that one especially since you like WW2. You can get the Gold or Anthology for pretty cheap.

I am sure you would like the COD: Modern Warfare games as well as COD: World at War. Battlefield 3 is pretty cool too, but don't get that one unless you plan on playing multiplayer online as it is mostly a team based shooter with a crappy single player campaign. Since you like GTA and WW2, the Saboteur is a good game that kind of blends the two.

GTA IV is a great game, and V is coming out later this year.

There are plenty of good games out there, but you will have to read some reviews and watch some gameplay videos to make an educated guess as to whether or not you will like the games. Here is a good place to start though. XP or Windows 7 for gaming?
Epoloski
A friend I know insists that Windows XP is still more or less the best OS to date for PC gaming, despite its staggering age (10 years!!). Her argument? It's a more simplistic architecture that uses less resources, thus providing more power. And that Windows XP is the most rugged, reliable, stable OS ever devised, for that matter. :|
Sounds a bit like bias to me. How much longer can Windows XP last before games and hardware will start requiring more modern operating systems?
Thanks for any responses. :|
Answer
XP is good, but windows 7 is 10 times better. I made the switch from XP to 7, I skipped Vista as that was a horrible OS. Now if you into old games that are 5 or more years old then XP would be okay, but if your looking at newer games you want to go with windows 7. It's faster and easy to use.
My understanding is support for XP will run out by 2014, so if your in the market for a new computer it's best to go with windows 7 or if you want to wait sometime in 2012 we should be getting windows 8.
