Can I play the Alan Wake game with this video card installed on my pc?

No. That video card is too weak to run Alan Wake at playable framerates. And no on the second response. You can't 'brake' a computer by running a game on a weak video card. the game will either:
1. crash on start-up
2. will run at unplayable framerates and/or video glitches.

Since a GeForce 8400 GS supports Pixel Shader 3.0 and Dx 10 graphics, it could run the game (provided it doesn't crash for other reasons unknown to us - bad drivers, DirectX or an old operating system (eg WinXP SP2 under which the game can't run) etc. I have a video card roughly twice as powerful as yours and can run Alan Wake on medium with reasonably good framerates. So you get the idea. Download a demo and see for yourself what happens

Video Card for Crysis PC Game?

Ok so I am looking to upgrade my PC but I want to be smart about it. Right now I have a:
160 HD
Intel 3.2 processor HT Technology
Radeon 9200 SE (Horrible)

I'm not sure if my processor needs to go.
My Hard Drive is fine.
My Video card sucks!

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 730b with (1280 x 1024)
With that resolution I am not sure what I video card I will need to run Crysis on high settings on. I also want to be able to use it for Directx 10.

I was thinking about the Geforce 8800gtx but I don't know that I will need that much since I can only play on (1280 x 1024) Max. Then I thought maybe the Geforce 8600gt but I hear that it would not be good enough but maybe for my resolution it will?

So all and all, do I need a AmD dual core processor? If so which one should I get that can do the job and not cost so much?
And as far as a video card goes, does anyone have an idea of what I should get considering my resolution?

I want the game to look the way I have been viewing it on trailers and from what I heard is that Directx 10 was created for this game and using the older Directx 9 would not look near as good. Isn't this true?

you can get a better graphics card, but if you want a card that will be good enough to handle crysis at high settings, you will need to replace your processor as well. This is because your processor will be holding back the potential of the card.

For your resolution, a 8800 gts 320mb card will be perfect. They took a 8800GTX, disabled a few pipelines and cut off some of the RAM to bring the price down. ( GTX = $550 GTS = $300) whats great about this card is you dont really need much video memory if your running your monitor at low resolutions.

As for your processor, amb dual cores are alright but intels core duos are the best processors out right now for gaming. A amd dual core running at 2.4 can be beat out by a intel core duo e6400 running at 2.13.

By the way, the offical crysis system specs are not out yet so we can only guess what we will need to play this game, but i consider the 8800 GTS the minimum when it comes to running crysis at high settings on directx10.

The next step down in cards would probably be the geforce 8600 which i doubt it can run crysis at anything higher then medium settings because of its crappy 128-bit memory bus that holds it back.

But if all this sounds a little to expensive to you, it pretty much looks like crysis is going to look good on dx9 anyway so go for a x1950 xt or gefore 7900 if you want.

What is more important for a gaming PC: Processor or Video Card?

Q. Hi, i have a laptop with an integrated ATI Radeon HD 3200 video card (i know you think its crap) and an AMD Athlon 64 X2 QL-65 2.09Ghz processor,

I downloaded a Call of Duty Modern Warfare Demo and the detail was fantastic when i put all the Video Settings to the best possible , but it was very jerky..... I think thats because of my processor...

So if i upgraded my Processor would my games run smother (if the Video settings on the games were put to full).......

And if not, how would i be able to make my Gaming experience better
(without having to lower the video settings)

It's hard to say, they both play a big role in gaming. For example, you could play cod mw2 with the best graphics card on the market, and a horrible processor, and the game would run slow since the computer doesn't have enough power to run the game...but at the same time, you could have a top of the line core i7 processor and a horrible graphics card (or integrated graphics) and the game would only run at 15fps with all minimum resolution and details since it wouldn't be able to render all of the game detail.
I'm not an AMD person (i prefer inter) so I don't know much about their hardware, but I can play cod mw2 on my laptop which has a core2duo@2.0ghz, 4gb ram, and integrated graphics (intel gma 4500mhd) with 128mb of available video memory+shared memory. I can play the game at a good 30~40 fps on my native resolution (1366x768) and all low graphics settings.

I would have to say that your graphics (video) card should be the first thing you should upgrade..but since thats my laptops weakness and we both have similar specs (dual core processor around 2.0ghz, integtated graphics). My processor handles the game just fine, but my integrated graphics chip really cuts back on its full potential.

Sadly, since you have a laptop, you cannot upgrade the gpu or cpu in it meaning the only way you'd be able to play the game with decent settings is if you get a budget gaming pc. Its really inconvenient but if you were to do it, i'd get a barebones kit from tigerdirect.com

Also, how much ram is in your laptop? if its under 2gb, that could also be a major flaw in game performance. Even 3gb is a little low, but it shouldn't reduce performance too much compared to 4gb+ of ram.

By the way, your integrated graphics wouldn't be able to put any game on full details/resolution. It simply cannot handle the demands of modern games. If you upgraded your graphics card (even though you can't since it's a laptop), you COULD run the games on full detail/resolution depending on the type of card you got, but it would really strain your processor.

Overall, with your kind of situation, the graphics card should be your biggest concern, and the first thing you upgrade, but you should really also upgrade your processor too or else, like I said above, "you could play cod mw2 with the best graphics card on the market, and a horrible processor, and the game would run slow since the computer doesn't have enough power to run the game"

aren't game cartridges almost basically like pc video cards?

The console has the power switch like a pc, the cartridge goes ino the slot like a regular pci xpress or agp card in a pc, and the internal processor of the console reads the instructions or code from the card or catridge to get your video on screen, right? Consoles are essentially mini-computers. They include the processor, sound and graphics cards/adapters, optical drives/cartridge readers, and so forth. Video cards are essentially a secondary CPU (often referred to as a GPU) which strictly performs the graphics rendering, letting the CPU do the other calculations (like the path of a bullet or figuring out what's in front of you, etc).

The cartridge or game disc is what contains the code, which is processed by the CPU and GPU... which then send the output to your video source to show what's going on.

I have the nvidea 9600gt 512 card in my machine i bought it 3 months ago its an amazing card.I dont understand why u are having lag problems when using the card u already have....the reason why i say this is because i used to play cod4/halo/half life/portal/etc using a 6800gt 256mb card and they all ran fine for me on high setting apart from cod4 where i was at medium.,maybe u need more ram for ya pc,do u have lag problems while playing the single player part of halo? or is it just online,if its when u are online then its your net connection causing the lag not your card.

their graphics charts are very extensive and include many of the latest games so you can get a good feel for for the card you are looking for, go to newegg.com in another tab and browse through it looking at video cards in your price range and keep going back to tomshardware to check and compare their performance. can talk all you want about this chip or that amount or speed of memory, but it comes down to real performance and benchmark results are it. as a gamer, pay close attention to the gaming benchmarks.

I am a casual gamer, just like one or two MMORPGs. I don't know if that is casual though. I would want to get a card for my normal (not gaming) PC. I would like to play Guild Wars 2 on a 23" 1920x1080 PC. Could you tell me a good one? There are so many kinds and models out there.

I don't intend to play on super ultra... just no lag on 1920x1080. I never plan to play on ultra.
I don't want to pay that much. If it is more than $200, it isn't worth it.

Does a video card driver upgrade make the graphics better?

I recently got into PC gaming, but my computer isn't a gaming PC. I've been looking into RAM cards, graphics card, all that.

Anyway, my question is that will a video card driver upgrade make the card more powerful(thus giving me the ability to improve graphics in games), or just make it compatible and support certain things?

That's awesome that your getting into PC gaming! PC has the best controls by far and the graphics / performance exceeds console gaming.

To answer your question, no unfortunately driver upgrades will not make your card any more powerful. The point of driver upgrades is usually just to allow compatibility with new games and remedy any bugs that may occur when playing a game (bugs related to your graphics card anyways).

A graphics card is the most important part of your PC if you are wanting to play games but it is also imperative that you have a powerful CPU (Dual core, about 2.0GHZ+ now a days) as well as a decent amount of RAM (2GB+ now a days).

I would recommend a graphics card with 512MB memory and with a memory clock speed of 1500mhz or greater.. I normally use nVidia graphics cards.. I would look for an nVidia geForce 9600 or greater.

Frankly, the first poster is right. 64Meg video cards haven't been made in many years. No recent games will work on this.

You are going to be looking for games from 2004 or earlier.
