Q. What are the parts I need to build a gaming PC and where can I buy them? And what would be the total cost?

Well it depends on Ur price range what I have done to make it easier is I go to websites like tigerdirect and newegg and looked at good pard that have "also bought this"

First off you would need:
A case
Harddrive
Ram
Powersupply
Video card
CPU
CPU fan
Motherboard.

Watch out to get the same port for the motherboard and the CPU and fan (some CPUs come with a generic CPU fan)

Make sure the power has same as the monthsrboard if not you can get an adapter for the power supply.

Make sure your motherboard can handle the ram which u should be gettin DDR 3

Make sure the video card can work with the motherboard like pci express 2.0 most already have it.( I'm talking about the motherboard)

As for the rest is mostly plug and play and folow instructions.

Go to newegg.com, scroll down and click build your own. You can buy a bundle of the best equipment for gaming. You can also browse the whole website, and pick out whatever you want.

I would suggest that you get:

Rosewill Blackhawk Ultra computer tower(computer case). (their fans are good also)

7 or 8 core processor;

2 Tb of hard disk space;

between 8 and 12 Gb of RAM;

600 watt or better power supply;

2 Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 or 590; or Sapphire Radeon HD 6990 4GB;

also I would get some type of liquid cooling for your CPU.

I am looking to get a decent gaming pc nothing super. I have read so many conflicting things on different companies. Should I go alienware, ibuypower, or cyberpower. I am kinda computer illiterate so building my own is not an option. Any suggestions

Cyberpower builds are the best that you can find that are not way overpriced compared to other brands . So Just go to newegg and look into their cyberpower PC's that are currently on sale =P

I was going to buy a gaming PC, but i was told it was cheaper to buy the parts and put it together myself. I'm not a pro but i have somewhat experience with computers. I just need to know what exactly i need to buy and where i can get them for cheap. My budget is around $500. Thanks for the help.

You should have specified if we should a PC case in that price or not.

This is my first PC build so please don't be too harsh on judgements. I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions on if I should use any different parts in my build. I would like to not go over 1K in cash on the PC alone. Will this setup be able to run BF3 on ultra graphics settings and still be around 60 FPS? Any input is appreciated.

Nothing much to say other than its a good gaming pc. And yes i should be able to run BF3 at 60 fps maxed out. The graphics card is good and so is the cpu, it has a good amount of ram, good motherboard, a decent hard drive and a good power supply. So it should run battle field 3 fine. I wish i could give you a smart technical answer but all i can say is that its a good build.
